Daughter of a cabinet maker here: Next time you’re staining a door or anything else, put the stain on using a foam brush, then use a rag to remove excess. You can then dry brush over the wet stain very lightly with a regular paint brush. Then repeat for other coats. That way, the wood grain will be more apparent and it will have less of a brown-painted look.
@ML Cons Hey! So, the difference between paint and stain is that paint sits on top of the wood, while stain seeps into it. Therefore, stripping off paint works, but you'd need to sand down the door to get the stain off since it's embedded inside the wood. :)
OMG Yes! I was going to comment the same thing. I prefer using a cotton cloth from the get-go and just rub it in as I go. I feel it gives me more control of the color and you're able to see the wood grain more clearly.
Friends, who else experiences the joy MaCenna does when she is sharing her progress. The music makes me tear up and feel her joy. Best video to date. The door turned out beautiful. Love the lighter doorknob. MaCenna Rocks!!!💕💕💕
When you were signing the names in the concrete I totally got all the goosebumps! It’s so wonderful to see someone get everything they deserve. You EARNED THIS! 🖤
I know this sounds weird, but I can't help thinking the house has a soul, and you are bringing it back to the glory it deserves after so many decades. I'm sure if your house could talk MaCenna, it would be so proud of your labor of love!
Framing goes so fast! You'll go off to hit the thrifts stores one afternoon and come home to find your new house just standing there. So happy for you.
MaCenna, I had a stripping and refinishing shop and I've stripped 100's of pieces, you can safely have the doors professionally stripped, just ask around there at antique stores and dealers and you should be able to find someone! It's so much work to hand strip, I never had any problems with damaging the pieces! I did this for over 25 years! Good luck!
After reading all the comments I think this has been confirmed for all of us. You are an inspiration for all of us who follow you. You are such a positive person, full of energy and focused on your goals. Your momma must be so proud of you. If she doesn't see this please tell her she did a great job raising you. And the fruit don't fall far from the tree.
Watching you run around on the concrete and show us the floor plan with so much happiness and excitement was the purest most wholesome thing i have seen all week. Your energy is so contagious and inspiring! So happy for you and all this incredible progress!! 💛💛
I think what MaCenna needs for stripping the doors is Laquer Thinner to sit for 10-15 mins, then you scrape that off. Depending on the amount of paint, you may have to do it twice. Then you use Mineral Spirits with steel wool to get the remaining paint off. After all that, you sand it with coarse sandpaper, then fine paper. I prefer my orbital sander. All these steps will maybe take up a few hours in your day. It won't take days like it's sounding it is. A carpenter from Home Depot told me about this technique, and I used it to restore all the horribly painted furniture in my university apartment back to its original glory. lol This works like magic.
One of the main things I look forward to every Sunday. You’re seriously such a role model MaCenna, thank you for providing such a sense of home and always such positive vibes. 🤍
Aww it broke my heart when the wreath came off the door. It was such a part of the old door, I just assumed you would keep it. I hope you can source one or repair the original. Congrats on pouring your slab and seeing all your hard work pay off slowly but surely!
I’m so curious about how you’re going to ensure that the addition blends seamlessly with the original 100+ year old home!! So much of the woodwork is staying, will you match it in the addition?
The part of you putting pre-stain on the door calmed me so much. It felt so much like fall is finally here, also love the music in the background. Love every bit of progress you achieve. You go girl, you’re so inspiring!
I'm always so amazed at MaCenna in these videos. The motivation and dedication. I saw the final concrete and just thought "wait there's still 3 cottages that need foundation to be built," but Macenna just keeps chugging along and finishes that beautiful door. I need more of that "one day at a time" energy. "Progress not completion"
The white doorknob is everything! I just love your contagious enthusiasm - watching your videos make me so happy and I've never wanted to renovate a house of my own more than I do now
Never commented before but had to say how sweet it was to watch you running your lap on the newly dried concrete, good for you! You are a very impressive and multi-talented young woman! Purchasing, renovating/restoring an old farmhouse and filming the process was a brilliant idea, your content far surpasses expensively produced home renovation television programs.
I’ve never been so invested in a renovation!! I love this series! I love that you are reusing what you took off the house!! I’ve binged almost every renovation video 😂👍🏻
Hello Sweet McKenna! How fun and exciting to get to start seeing the fruits of your labor!❤ You've already done and accomplished soooo much and you've been such an amazing example to all of us with your perseverance, diligence and patience with such tedious projects but never giving up! Thank you for being the caretaker of this sweet little cottage! If only walls could talk and tell us the stories of our old homes! You have extensively journaled your journey and what a gift for the homeowner 100 years from now to see!❤ You are such a sweet, beautiful and delightful person that brings so much joy into all of our lives with every video! I wish you all the joy and happiness you bring to all of us! Blessings to you and your family!❤😊
MaCenna, I cried tears of joy watching you run around on the concrete, your happiness was infectious!! That is the most beautiful door I have ever seen. 😮 Thank you for taking us along on your journey. Lots of love ❤️ and support from Wisconsin! 🥰⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
You’re doing such an amazing job😍🤩 thank you for showing us this whole process and how to get through these projects the right way. I always learn something from your videos. Can’t wait to see more as it progresses!!💞💞
Literally cried when I saw you running over the concrete. It’s so empowering and inspiring to see how much love you pour into this home!! Also, love the white doorknob, and maybe unpopular opinion but how about white outside black inside? Because of the black windows that are more present inside? Otherwise fully white because it’s bringing in the wood tones and the white from the siding!
The run around the new concrete and the commode mime😄 your joy in all the new stages is so wonderful to see. The door came out great thanks to your perfectionism and white knobs were a good finish. So very happy that your dream is really unfolding now, so enjoying watching your progress😍
As a furniture painter honestly the best paint stripper is Kwik-Strip from Klean Strip. Is way faster and effective. Also a tip, after strip your paint Mineral Spirits and a steel wool Grade #0000 is the best way to take off all paint and strip residues. If the stripper doesn't work too good you tend to scratch more the wood and eventually you are damaging all the surface. And with the stain is better looking if you wipe off with a lint free rag after application. Otherwise, brush marks are going to dry very visible and uneven staining look. Hope this helps.
Your exuberance make my heart sing. I’m truly happy to see you make your dream of getting this house exactly how you want it come to fruition. Also every time I watch your video, I feel like I’m watching a design star on HGTV. ✨✨✨✨✨✨🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩✨✨
I love seeing how much progress you make each week! I will be both rewarding and sad once everything is done. And the white door know was my favorite 💕
I've been watching this renovation since the beginning, but haven't commented until now. Really love how detailed you are about everything, it makes me feel so much more knowledgeable about how this all works and inspires me to want to create my own home in the future. You are so enthusiastic it's contagious, and it helps me reconnect with my own enthusiasm about my interests. Thanks, MaCenna!
I love the white door handle! I know you’re probably not always happy all the time but it’s really nice to see your excitement about all you’re doing. Sundays are the best days!
I am literally in tears watching you put your names on the concrete!! I don’t know you, and it feels like i do when i watch your videos! Your journey is so inspiring! I always look forward to your videos! It makes me so happy to watch your new home grow!! & FINALLYY THE CONCRETE IS ON!!!😂
So happy for you! Your hard work is going to make this house beautiful. Thank you for sharing this journey with us :) sending you positive manifestations!
You are a real-life Anna from Frozen: Bubbly, vivacious, confident, and take charge. You're not afraid to make mistakes. You're definitely an inspiration to this newbie KZclipr. Keep up the good work.
I'm so glad you went with the white door knob. I am so incredibly impressed by you. I look forward to your videos each week. What an amazing accomplishment this will be once everything is done.
I love how happy you get and it really makes me in a better mood! I love following this series and you are the sweetest person! I love how everything is turning out! Your style really influence mine, I'm on the hunt now for a gold and more ornate frame! But they are not as easy to come by here... I think I have found one that I like! And the white door knob is my favorite! Also you kind of looked like a flight attendant walking on the concrete haha
I love your videos so much! ❤️ I’ve watched your channel for about a year or so now, and your channel is probably my absolute favorite on KZclip! Would’ve probably never gone on KZclip ever again if I hadn’t found your channel! You are such a talented content creator, and your personality seems so genuine and friendly. Your dedication is inspiring, please keep it up! 😍
I just want to say. I am SUCH A HUGE FAN!! I love listening to your home renovation-progress during my work breaks. I love your energy. I feel like it fuels me better than coffee lately xD. Stay wonderful and always take care of your mental health :]
Girlllllll idk why but I'm watching this video and I'm emotional and crying for you! I just can feel the intense relief through the video I cannot imagine how happy you must be. Keep it up! One day at a time your hard work is paying off ❤️
OMG!! This made me as happy and excited as you are! So happy for you, MaCenna!😍 now it's really coming into life! another step closer💗 this is the only channel where I learned to ✨manifest✨ things that you want! it's just so full of positivity here that's why I looooove it! ❤ ps. option 2 for me, too! the white ceramic knob is pretty!
Option 2 all the way! Omg i felt emotional seeing the concrete in, your dream and plans for the property is really coming together its gonna be beautiful
The door looks amazing and I love the white knob. Definitely compliments the exterior colors and lightens up the door a bit. Great job! Can’t wait for next week!
You make us proud McKenna. Your victory lap on the concrete slab is so deserved. Well done.👏🏼 I agree the white shaded ceramic door knob pops on the color of the stain and brings attention to the gorgeous brass. The door sidings stained the same color as the door with the Grey Mist trims is going to definitely add the presence you are looking for. Looking forward to the next phase and projects.🤗
Congratulations!!! I can so understand your excitement. We just moved into our new house and have been doing small projects around the house and your videos inspire me to keep moving every week!! Looking forward to rest of the reno, all the best!!
Seeing you run around the new area actually brought tears to my eyes. The joy that comes through you is a reminder to us all how wonderful life is suppose to be ! Thank you , so happy for you
You don’t have to strip the sidelights. You can prime over the paint, then add the semi solid stain and get the same effect. You’re doing such a good job.
I love the white door handle against the rich wood stain! Thank you for being so motivating, seeing how determined you are to make progress on your house helps motivate me to do my seemingly never ending homework for university :) (I am studying for a Bachelor of Applied Arts)
White handle all the way! I'm obsessed with that door! We've been renovating our house, while living in it, with a bunch of kids and a cat. LOL. This weekend the vast majority of it will be done. I'm so excited to have more than 1 bathroom and flooring again!
I sooooo love tat feeling when a stain go’s on you can almost feel the wood saying “aahhhhh” like when you water flowers when you see they need it! I know a lot of ppl on this channel can get what I’m saying since we’re all probably creatives here🥰
so freaking happy that concrete is finally laid down... I love the white door knob so much it sets off the stain of that beautiful door! every time I get home from work on Sunday's I automatically watch your channel! love the house...
You are such an inspiration! I just bought an old house built in 1901 in Colorado! Watching your videos make me so happy and give me ideas on how to blend old and new cohesively. :) ♡
The way you inspire me to achieve things in my daily life is unbelievable. We are similar aged but live such different lives, yet I thrive on your energy and it sets a good tone for my week ahead. Thank you for all the positivity!
I love watching these 🥰 I was just wondering: while you’re still working on the house, wouldn’t it be fun to make a little time capsule with a letter or some other small things and leave it somewhere for future owners to find? :)
I agree with everyone~ we can't wait for the next video & LOVE how everything is moving along. Your parents must be SO PROUD of you!!!! It's a good thing I wait for the very end. I CRACKED UP with your mom's "conversation!!!" What did she really mean?!!!
I woke up anxiously waiting for the release of this video!! This is what Sunday’s are for. Loved the white handle - so fun watching the house come along
MaCenna, when they started framing in the house, your smile was a mile wide. Now that the concrete has been completed, your smile is even wider. It has been a joy to watch your's & Romeo's journey with this renovation. Keep smiling and stay safe. And Mummykins & Daddy O, you are both amazing with the support you offer.
I agree, go with the white handle 👍 things are coming along and the big picture is becoming more and more visible every week! I love this series so much!
Looooove the white handle! You're all doing an amazing work on this house btw! It's so visible how much love and care you're putting into this beautiful project!
Yup option 2! The transformation of the door even before the stain was incredible! After -met you perfection standard! You'll have so many additional skills when you're done! Totally enjoying this each week.
That’s what we do but…….So many opinions. Good thing she only has to please herself and Romeo, right?
She usually used that process.. idk why she used brush this time… hahahaha i screamed too! Lol
@ML Cons Hey! So, the difference between paint and stain is that paint sits on top of the wood, while stain seeps into it. Therefore, stripping off paint works, but you'd need to sand down the door to get the stain off since it's embedded inside the wood. :)

@ML Cons I don’t think she’d have to strip it. It maybe sand it and then restain it.
The white knob was the best choice. So happy for the progress. Everything you've done looks great
Friends, who else experiences the joy MaCenna does when she is sharing her progress. The music makes me tear up and feel her joy. Best video to date. The door turned out beautiful. Love the lighter doorknob. MaCenna Rocks!!!💕💕💕

Doesn’t sound weird at all to me! I thought the same thing. It’s like she gave it a second life
Framing goes so fast! You'll go off to hit the thrifts stores one afternoon and come home to find your new house just standing there. So happy for you.
Lol!
The white handle look so good! And I’m so proud of youuu, you came such a long way and doing great! 🥰❤️
White handle for the win ehehehe
Yes the white is perfect with that grain 👌👏
Pour ma part, j'aime bien la poignée blanche 😍
#Team White Handel !!
@XO, MaCenna The white knob is stunning!
MaCenna, I had a stripping and refinishing shop and I've stripped 100's of pieces, you can safely have the doors professionally stripped, just ask around there at antique stores and dealers and you should be able to find someone! If that front door could speak it’d be like “I haven’t felt this damn fine in 100 years” 😂 x
LOL! I don't know why I read this in an old shivery voice 😂 hilarious

The concrete pouring segment was INCREDIBLE! You're a full blown film maker!!!!! Love these videos, girl!

@Elisa SalernoMaCenna said, it is a door bell.
@Elisa Salerno I think it's an old doorbell
What is the knob in the middle of the front door?
Omg thank you!!! 🥰🥰

I’m all for the white door knob on the front door 😍😍 this series is just sooo fun to be a part of, MaCenna!! I’m beyond excited for every episode 🤩
The white door handle definitely! It breaks up the monotony of dark wood/metal in such a lovely way!! I am so excited to see the progress on the house
I’ve never been so invested in a renovation!! I love this series! I love that you are reusing what you took off the house!! I’ve binged almost every renovation video 😂👍🏻
Your videos have been helping me thorough such a hard battle with depression and anxiety. I get so excited every time you post. Thank you MaCenna!
The moment you showed the white door knob I fell in love. It’s so pretty and subtly dainty. Love it!

Everything looks great! I’d go for the white/off-white knobs; I think it’s a nice contrast to the dark of the door and metal.
Girlllllll idk why but I'm watching this video and I'm emotional and crying for you! I just can feel the intense relief through the video I cannot imagine how happy you must be. Keep it up! One day at a time your hard work is paying off ❤️

Kim!!!!!!
Oh my! You know it’s a good channel when Kim’s watching!
Hi Kim
Hi Kim! I can’t wait to hear about house updates.
The door looks amazing and I love the white knob. Definitely compliments the exterior colors and lightens up the door a bit. Great job! Can’t wait for next week!
You make us proud McKenna.
Your victory lap on the concrete slab is so deserved.
Well done.👏🏼
I agree the white shaded ceramic door knob pops on the color of the stain and brings attention to the gorgeous brass. The door sidings stained the same color as the door with the Grey Mist trims is going to definitely add the presence you are looking for.
Looking forward to the next phase and projects.🤗
The door is so beautiful with that stain! I love it! And I'm so happy for you, the progress of this week is amazing!
Congratulations!!! I can so understand your excitement. We just moved into our new house and have been doing small projects around the house and your videos inspire me to keep moving every week!! Looking forward to rest of the reno, all the best!!

Your happiness is so contagious i teared up when you were running around your new concrete addition 😂❤ looking beautiful!
You don’t have to strip the sidelights. You can prime over the paint, then add the semi solid stain and get the same effect. You’re doing such a good job.

You put so much love into your work, I can't wait to see the final results!
Fix the missing bits on your door wreath with air dry clay, then paint it and keep it as a Christmas ornament.
Why was I crying when they wrote their names in the concrete??? 😭❤️
So happy for you MaCenna🥺🥺

I love watching these 🥰 I was just wondering: while you’re still working on the house, wouldn’t it be fun to make a little time capsule with a letter or some other small things and leave it somewhere for future owners to find? :)
I should totally do that!!!!
I agree with everyone~ we can't wait for the next video & LOVE how everything is moving along. Your parents must be SO PROUD of you!!!! It's a good thing I wait for the very end. I CRACKED UP with your mom's "conversation!!!" What did she really mean?!!!
