I only started dropping some more serious trees in the past 3 or 4 months since we moved offgrid and remote in Australia.
I found Jacob and Jed while I was looking for better info on cutting trees and came across the 8 ways to fell a tree video. Instantly Jed comes across as both a true professional at his work and also an extremely humble man in how he carried himself.
I will be forever indebted to him and Jacob for that video and the information they shared. It's given me the confidence to cut some heavy trees over here and know it will be a good shot.
      Rest in peace mate.

2 years ago, I took down a 35 foot black walnut in my backyard. After being quoted absolutely ridiculous rates or being ignored by all the arborists in my area, I decided to do it myself. I cut it down, cut the limbs into firewood and built a chainsaw mill to turn the trunk into slabs. I had never touched a chainsaw prior to this endeavor, and everything from safety, to technique, to sharpening the thing, almost all of my knowledge came from this channel and learning from Jed. I feel like he literally taught me everything I know about this.
I don't comment on videos, but this is an exception. Rest in peace man. Thank you for everything, and thank you Jacob for the channel and everything you're doing

@Elliott Brown gotta pay the bills. The talent then leave the location without a trace. Homeowners all have high expectations and it quickly translates into skilled labor. It's not groundskeeper Willy working on your property it's craftsman with responsibility and experience that you pay for.

I think it's important to keep in mind that those absolutely ridiculous rates are for the exact reason Jed's life was cut short. Tree work is an incredibly hazardous job that few recognize. Not only the risk of limb, but also property. No matter the size of a tree, there's almost always a hazard presented. What a blessing it was that you were able to gain the courage from Jed's instruction. I too have gained so much from his videos.

it is absolutely incredible how much bringing down a single tree can cost. We recently got quoted something like $7500 to bring down about 15-20 moderately sized trees so I've done the same as you -- relearned it myself

Jake… my heart is truly broken. I never thought I’d shed a tear for someone I didn’t know personally. But I was proven wrong today. I can feel your pain and I’m sure many of us feel it as well. Keep your head up brother your community will come through for Jeds wife and little girls . I have a wife and 2 little girls and possibly another on the way. I share the same line of work as a tree climber and bucket operator and I will take this lesson and apply it everyday. Stay diligent , stay focused , follow your heart, and trust in gods plan. For Jed is now with the lord in heaven with streets paved of gold. We will all be up there with our fallen brother one day. Untill the. Every tree I take down will be in memory of him. R.I.P Jed you are a warrior. You’re energy will carry through, you will never truly be gone. With all of my heart I love you guys.

As a father to two little girls myself, I'm broken by the amount of love he must have for his little girls and how badly he probably misses them. At the same time, I am consoled by the knowledge that he has someone like you in his corner to watch over his family. I've donated what little I can because of your efforts. I watch several tree channels regularly but had never seen this one for some reason so this is the first time to see you and Jed. What a great, passionate, sharp guy he was! Definitely the type of person that makes the world a better place and will be sorely missed. As somewhat of a tree feller myself I can understand what he said about the “ineffable” feeling that that sort of work gives you. You feel godlike way up in a tree, overlooking everything around you, while at the same time, being on the ground dropping one also gives you a real sense of power and the forces of nature. A definite respect for each tree and a true appreciation for the forest.

This hurts, man. Your channel has always been one of my favorites, and Jed has been a big reason why. If he was in a video, I knew it would be a good one.
Prayers up for his wife, kids, and friends.

Damn, what a tragedy. I remember the first video I ever watched about tree cutting was the one with Jed explaining all the different cuts, he seemed like he did it all his life and put whole soul into it, definitely a master of his craft. That's a huge loss for the community, everyone who knew him personally and those that will never get to. My condolences and best wishes to all his family and friends.

Heart felt sympathy from a tree man in Cornwall. We all know it can be dangerous, but never think it will be us - or even less a great like Jed.
So sorry for all those close to Jed. Beautiful video, his legacy will live on in the wisdom he shared through your videos. God bless, RIP.

Jed was an exceptionally competent person working a chainsaw and his fund of knowledge about tree-work was extraordinary. I only knew him from the videos, and of all the great people involved in this work, there was nobody out there that was more competent than he was. I am dumbstruck that this could happen to such a fine person.
    Rest in Peace Jed.

Even though I've never had the pleasure of meeting jed in person, this was absolutely devastating news. Jacob, I've watched all of your videos from your first channel and this channel as well. I've watched some of them multiple times. I'm a total stranger, but I'm so thankful that you have the footage of jed that you do. You all are so knowledgeable in tree work, and you both have helped so many of us tree guys further our education. The video footage of jed will live on forever, and he will be known as one of the greatest to have ever played the game. Thank you, Jacob. Rest easy, jed.

I never met the man, the myth, the legend you called Inbred Jed. But through your eyes and videos you brought him to millions. We got to see his "tricks of the trade" as we call it. We got to see his ups and his downs and his passion for the job. I've enjoyed the ride along 1000's of miles away the past couple years I've laid at night and watched hours of this man doing what he loved to do and learning from his teachings. So I thank you for bringing him into my home and my work. I thank Jed for the teachings and the skill and for setting the bar high enough out of reach so that I may continue to learn and maybe someday grab that same bar he has set so high. Lastly but not least. I want to thank God for taking this great man to be with the other greats that have went on before him and for sending some comforts to the hearts and lives he has touched. R.I.P. Jed.

    Hey Jake,
I heard the news a couple nights ago on a post while surfing videos. I was shocked and saddened to say the least. I am a climber with my own tree service in SE MN. I watch these videos to learn, to share an experience, even if from a great distance, but mainly to be safe in my jobs and make it home. We have lost loggers here too over the years, people with many years in the woods. But the one thing I learned at a very early age is that even if you do everything perfect, it can go very wrong very fast. Take care my friend, be safe and well always. My sincere sympathies to you, his family, and all whose lives he touched. RIP Jed, you will be greatly missed.😔
