There's something vaguely tragic about this match. Knowing both of these from their K1 days, and seeing them far removed from their primes, you can't help but feel both nostalgic and sad at the same time - nostalgic for the days of old when they struck fear into their opponents and crumpled giants with inexorable martial might - and sad - seeing them aged, tired and battle-scarred step into the ring to face each other, one last time. They know of the irreversible toll this way of life takes on the body and mind, and that they may one day wake up and no longer remember who they used to be - and yet _still_ they are willing to give those old stomping grounds one last hurrah. There is a certain kind of courage in such an act that I have to salute. Godspeed, you magnificent bastards.

Man what a legend Reem is. Having watched him around Pride FC days, bounced to K1 then UFC, this dude has been around for so long and still racking up wins. Badr has definitely lost a step in his athleticism, and both have regresssed tremendously from their 2nd fight. But man, still what an awesome fight. Props to these two legends!

@Chodius Maximus tell me who’s not on steroids, ppl don’t have to report that they get caught by usada anymore so they just have “injuries” or whatever that’s why you see so many ppl taking two years off, most of them tested dirty but you’re just not hearing about it, guys like Brian Ortega, Jon Jones come to mind as fighters not fighting for a while

    • Joe RJ

Underrated??? Dude made over a million every fight, if you judge him by anything other than his worth, he’s one of the top paid fighters in the world, I’d rather be appreciated by my boss then online nobody’s who might talk shit on a keyboard but don’t pay his bills trust me under appreciated is a guy like Paddy Pimblet making 40/40

Very cool that these two world class fighters decided to fight again, after all these years. Classy, mature, and professional in their dialogue. No b.s. trash talking really.......Overeem is actually in great shape, especially for a 42 year old.... Hari did not look like he was in great shape. Surprised to see how heavy he is. He looked okay but nothing like the maniac fast powerful striker he once was, when he was more lean. Mad respect for both fighters. Legends.

He was a lot bigger and more jacked when fought Lesnar. However, he was bigger, stronger and leaner in this fight compared to his form after he was banned which is very unlikely for someone at 42 years old so I agree he is probably on juice again. But the thing is he is not UFC or K1 level anymore even with roids. So they went for a paycheck using their old reputation to put on a fight against an out of form fighter and probably got good money for that. It's a better deal than fight an animal like Ngannou or Miocic even if you earn less. Both of them would get close to death if they would try to fight against guys like those. It's understandable. They put on a decent a fight with less risk but they are not even close to top fighters anymore.

    • B Zilla
      B Zilla Ай бұрын

@ZENJI GAMING and that's the exact same reason why I didn't grow up in the Netherlands either, my father worked for DAF, but as soon as I was born we moved back to Italy, Milano. Their culture isn't my culture and vice-versa. Badr isn't a Dutchman, for the exact same reason why Kamaru Usman and Izzy represent Nigeria, look at all the footballers playing all over the world, look at Cristiano Ronaldo earning $200million a year in Saudi Arabia, are you going to tell him to go home too? How about guys like Mauro Camoranesi, born in Argentina, represented Italy at an international level and won the World Cup with us, same goes for Simone Perrota, born in England, played for Italy won the World Cup, or all the former Croatian refugees that had children who were born in Australia, most of them represent Croatia when it comes to football, heritage means a lot more than where you were born. A person of African descent can be born in Europe, same goes for South American, but they will still be seen as outsiders in the same way if you were born in Africa or Asia as a European, you will be seen as an outsider. That's just how the world is.

    • B Zilla
      B Zilla Ай бұрын +1

@ZENJI GAMING Badr lives in Morocco, he lives in Casablanca. He does have homes allover Morocco though. Another thing why should you stay loyal because you're born there, I'm Italian, both my parents are Italian, even though I have Dutch citizenship I live in Italy. You need to learn how the world works.

I know everybody has their opinion of what they would do if they were ultra-skilled and dangerous kickboxers like Overeem or Hari. Both of these men were so much better than most of the world's heavyweight kickboxers ever get to be. Head and shoulders above. The best, at one time. That said, these guys shouldn't be put into positions to get brutally KO'd anymore. Both of these men have taken extreme punishment in the ring. They are true legends. We need to protect our legends. Our sport does not lend well to old age. I don't want to see these guys die young.

This ref had to have been paid to help Badr. Didnt call the KD in round 2 which isnt too bad. Despite Badr touching down, he stayed up so you can forgive the ref for not seeing it, or letting it go. However, the counts he was giving in round 3 are unforgiveable. Badr had been down for a good 5 seconds and he was starting the count at 1

badr was knocked down twice and he was almost knocked down 3 times (the time he almost fell and put 1 hand on the ground)

Part that got me laughing is when Reem threw up his double forearm guard and Hari immediately starts punching the body. If you watch Reem's run through MMA (especially him vs Roy Nelson), it's as if the body does not exist for the majority of heavyweight MMA fighters. Even his final MMA loss against Volkov was Volkov throwing punches at his high forearm guard and managing to sneak enough straight shots through to hurt and finish Reem, never once going "oh, his body is right there".

@Chris Simon every single MMA fighter goes to the body though, even if they don’t punch much to the body they’ll still kick to the body.
Its not uncommon at all, it’s just a completely false narrative. Your last sentence is correct though.

    • Chris Simon
      Chris Simon 3 ай бұрын

@Gigachad Longshanks Malleus Scotorum et Iudaeorum you name a few guys out of thousands. In boxing almost every single fighter goes to the body. Body attacks are becoming more common in MMA nowadays though. In MMA its easier to get a knockout since there's more variations of techniques and strategies available so body punching generally isn't needed.

    • Gigachad Longshanks Malleus Scotorum et Iudaeorum
Gigachad Longshanks Malleus Scotorum et Iudaeorum 3 ай бұрын

@Chris Simon That one isn’t good enough for you? You want me to go back all the way to the 90s for the likes of Bas Rutten and his liver punches/kicks? I’ll play this game all day dude... Still in heavyweight too, you want some more?
Going to the body isn’t some obscure thing in MMA and whoever thinks that is only a casual fan of the sport.

We watched Hari get counted out twice.. Hari was down about 15 to 20 seconds both times, I didn't actually count them.. but dang, the ref waited 5 or 6 seconds before he even started counting, both times.. the fight should have been over way before the bell rang.. all in all.. respect to both older guys for getting in there.. I understand what that takes, because I'm overeems age, I'm 42.. and I promise ya, I'm not as strong or fast as I was between 23 and 33.. and at 42, I would have been gassed.. lol.. my tank would have been empty after round 1.. lol.. talking about, yeah, time out.. time out.. lmao.. first 60 seconds of round 1,, ME.. time out, Time out..
