The hostile attitude of Wakandans towards colonizers ages poorly when you realize Wakanda was around during the colonial period and did nothing to stop it

@Daniel Leskov dude you are only speaking about NOW, people have always done slavery even back in egypts time in 2k+ BC
(did you know that most of the workers who made the pyramids were respected indivuals of the egyptian people? ofc slaves were used as well but mostly respected workers that worked in 3 month shifts that ate meat and were given alcohols and food as their reward, they even got the honor of being buried next to the pyramids in separate buildings)

it's even worse : that isolationism and xenophobia was what "made it great", not vibranium. If not for that isolationism, they and their vibranium deposits would have probably been exploited like rest of Africa. History of Wakanda proves building walls, strict immigration policy and segregation is good for prosperity of a country. And I'm pretty sure that is not the message Holywood wants to present nowadays :)

You know what's funny? T'Challa had a brother. His name was Jakarra.
He also had a steward who would rule in his stead when he was away. His name was N'Gassi.
I notice both of these high profile male characters are conspicuously absent from the MCU's Wakanda.

@Alpha 00 Americans seem to have the same problem with Europe. I have yet to meet an American that is able to comprehend it is not one massive continent similar to each other, that we in fact are a bunch of vastly different countries with our own histories, cultures and traditions.
I don't think many Americans are able to comprehend that just because America is homogeneous to a degree, doesn't meant the rest of the world is.

@mejuliie Regarding "American" not bring enough - we do it because there is no longer any distinct American identity, especially after the mass immigration waves over the past century. The fact that the term WASP exists is evidence - up until recently, that was just the average American. Now "American" is shorthand for.... absolutely nothing. If I tell you I'm American, that tells you nothing about my culture, beliefs, ethnicity, or any of the other things that people define themselves by.
You get some level of regional identity, especially here in the South, but these days every non-negative reference to the South and Southerners as a distinct place and people is considered racist.
This isn't to say "immigrants bad" - but I think it should be clear why "American" is deficient as an identity. I, blessedly, can fall back on "Southerner" (though I am also inordinately proud of my largely English pre-American heritage) but is it any wonder that Americans living in a country where they frequently have literally nothing in common with fellow Americans might want to ground themselves in something a little more concrete?

Man idk i feel they had a plan with wandavision and loki but then they started doing these random ass characters that have nothing to do with the multiverse. Wv and loki set up the multiverse war we are getting to falcon black widow ms marvel she hulk black panther thor all were missing key additions to this multiverse war its been since loki that we heard anything about kang and since multiverse of madness about multiple universe existing imo all those shows movies i listed shouldnt have been made to begin with they more fell flat for not being apart of the big picture. It would have worked if those solo films released alot sooner before the multiverse was introduced but they tried to do it after loki after we were aware alot of heros are coming this only raised our expectations with who we will see on screen which is bad when our expectations dont get met

@Hazman Taking just one Stone out of its timeline disrupts the flow of its respective element. That's what the Ancient One explained to Bruce. So if the Stones are "reduced to atoms" then why didn't the main timeline evaporate?
What were the stakes when they were making their time travel heist? There was literally no rush and they had all the time they needed to get more Particles to make a safer and more efficient plan.
Nebula was seconds away from beaming herself back to 2023 when Thanos showed up on Morag. Rhodie was already gone and Nat and Clint were on the Soul Stone planet. She knew Thanos was coming and she knew what he would find out if he captured her, and she had no reason no to assume Clint and Nat made it back already.
WHY is the *van* the priority in the middle of the battle with Thanos? Thanos wants the gauntlet and if he gets it he's going to kill everyone. By trying to get it back to the van at that moment you're basically asking for him to take it from you. Defeat him, THEN put the Stones back.
Captain Marvel can fly at lightspeed. If the Avengers *insist* on getting the gauntlet through the van while Thanos is fighting them over it, Carol can fly it to the Quantum Realm before anyone can blink.

    • Silver Scorpio
      Silver Scorpio 18 күн бұрын

@Hazman Why didn't the universe evaporate when Thanos destroyed the Infinity Stones?
Why didn't the Avengers go back in time to collect more Pym Particles?
Why didn't they go back in time to Wakanda at the point where Thanos had five of the Stones and the last one was in Vision's head?
Why didn't Nebula beam herself back to 2023 when her ship was grabbed by Thanos?
Why didn't the Avengers stop to consider what would happen if half the universe suddenly popped back into existence?
Why did they fart around with getting the gauntlet back to the wormhole van right in the middle of battle?
Why didn't Captain Marvel fly at lightspeed with the gauntlet?

    • Hazman
      Hazman 18 күн бұрын

@Silver Scorpio that is completely subjective and therefore does not reflect the actual quality of endgame. “It should’ve been this! It should’ve been that!” Are all hypothetical arguments. Endgame ain’t lazy.
It’s not as perfect as infinity war but endgame is still a phenomenal conclusion and a mostly perfect movie for what it’s trying to accomplish. I don’t give a shit anyone has to say otherwise since what I usually see regarding complaints are absolute rubbish points and invalid arguments boosted by the ongoing trend to trash on how great the MCU was back then due to phase 4 onwards being a failure and mess.

This is why source material matters. The reason while the "goo" flower is not given to everyone in the comics is because only people with the bashengas bloodline can take it (everyone else dies). There are so many instances where the MCU skips or changes steps only to make Black Panther or Wakanda seem illogical. The writers failed so miserably its inexcusable.

One of the biggest disappointments for me from Phase 4 was WandaVision.
It started out quite well, and clearly there was a lot of creativity and thought that went into it. The various eras of sitcoms that they recreated were spot on from an acting style, set, and costuming point of view, as well as Olsen and Bettany clearly being competent actors working excellently with the various styles at play.
For me it all fell apart the minute it was established that Wanda was consciously doing everything that she was, and that it was not a psychotic break from reality. Couple that with the absurd notion of selling what she did as some sort of sympathetic act and sacrifice was patently absurd.
If they had gone with her having a psychological breakdown, and having to be brought to terms with what she was doing to snap out of it, they would have been miles ahead of the ditch they ended up in.

@The Little Platoon I'm a bit the opposite. To me, TF&WS, as much as I think they botched it, I could still at least respect the ambition. Their failure of imagination was, well, "You tried to do a thing, and it didn't work."
She Hulk, was a simple premise. It was a show in a long established genre (legal comedy) with a automatically interesting gimmick (superheroes), it should have been an easy win.
And they still managed to fuck it up. I can respect someone who tries but ends up screwing up a gourmet meal, She Hulk's team screwed up a bowl of cereal.

I still love how much of a clusterfuck the final fight is:
-Shuri decides the final fight will be in the enemy's preferred terrain
-Shuri decides not to arm her soldiers to move or breathe underwater should they fall from their ship without guard rails
-Shuri decides not to arm her soldiers to deal with the VERY WELL ESTABLISHED healing factor of the fishpeople, basically rendering her army useless
-Shuri's ship has no guard rails protecting people from falling into the ocean
-Shuri makes an actual good plan to try to make Namor bring a small contingency to go investigate a supposed second radar so she has the numbers advantage, Namor however is incredibly paranoid and brings HIS ENTIRE GARRISSON, therefore putting the wakandans at total and complete disadvantage
-The Dora Milaje jumps off ropes being held by other able warriors instead of pulleys or machines, making them incapable of engaging in combat during the combat
-The Wakandan surprise ship only has one weapon underwater to deal with the enemy that acts primarily underwater
-The fishpeople apparently brought 10 thousand waterbombs to what they though was just a random radar
It's just all so absolutely stupid

@TollFree999 Last time I checked, the movie that heavily features Asgardian Military was Thor The Dark World, and their depiction of Asgardian soldiers using swords was one of its biggest criticism (among many others). Asgard was destroyed in Ragnarok so arguing past that is a moot point (New Asgard is no longer an advanced civilization and more like a refugee camp).
Either way you spin it, depicting a supposedly advanced military using basic melee weapons as their primary was dumb (except if there was another factor, ex: The Force with Lightsaber, Mjolnir Thunder, etc).
This isn't the case with the comic, Asgard uses various enchanted weapons for their soldiers (So each of them basically carries a weaker version of Mjolnir) not to mention that most of them are trained in magic. While Wakandan Military mainly consists of armored vehicles (Where Vibranium really shines), which makes them comparable to even Latveria. I don't see MCU Wakanda surviving a war with Real Life US Military, let alone Doom.

1:09:42 As a Nigerian, I cannot thank you enough for correctly pointing this out. Wakanda and the Black Panther movies and comics have become a disgusting joke and a platform for glorifying black supremacy and delusional revisionism. Also, the way you highlight how western society, especially the colonialists, did far more positives for humanity, is so true. My country (imperfect as it is) only exists thanks to them and slavery was abolished because the British found it reprehensibly evil and spent a lot of their own money and man-power to abolish it in the parts of Africa hey controlled; something no African tribe or kingdom would have ever done.

Seeing that ad tickled me too, because I've received many cringey Marine recruiter messages and ads while in a community college, and no joke, the latest one was a caller approaching me with like an anime OC avatar, I guess as a "Fellow Kids" tactic. I had my fun, pretending to think it was a friend prank-texting me (I honestly wasn't sure at first), and this recruiter dead-ass called me "sus", because by their own admission, they thought it'd be more relatable to use gamer lingo.

@The Little Platoon Believe me (or not), I’m an American war veteran (despite my moniker), and I’m just nauseated by that pathetically pandering ad.
We had gay people and people of just about every ethnicity in our unit and (despite certain boneheaded policies like “Don’t ask, don’t tell”) most of us had exactly zero issue with any of it. We were brothers and sisters (and occasionally, lovers) in arms, and that was it. No muss, no fuss.
The exceptionally tiny minority of genuine bigots by and large kept their traps shut because the penalties for demonstrable bigotry were, in a word, incendiary. And it, as it happened, was also a good way to quickly find yourself a pariah in your own unit.
We didn’t need diversity and acceptance cartoons to know the score. All it took was some regulations, the UCMJ, and an absolute bare minimum of common sense not to be an asshole to your fellow soldiers.

They were not in Talocan when they were rescued they were in a cave 140 meters below sea level. You have native people diving to great depths without gear so that wasn't strange. If they were in Talocan (which was deeper into the sea) than yes I would agree, but besides all this the film didn't make any sense a lot of times... The movie is called Wakanda Forever but all we got to see about wakanda were some people on a market besides the river. I would've loved they showed more of Wakanda as a nation. Also in the end after the attack by Namor and his people Wakanda was damaged but managed not to have a scratch at the end of the movie. On top of that I never understood why Namor and crew didn't look or try to look at/for any information on the ship as to who built the vibranium detector. They just let Wakanda handle it. M'Baku doesn't want to be Wakanda's leader anymore because he saw how long its leaders tend to live. Since they were introduced in Civil War the Wakandan's leaders have been:
    • T'Chaka (2016, killed by Zemo)
    • T'Challa (2018, presumably killed by Kilmonger)
    • Kilmonger (killed by T'Challa)
    • T'Challa (2018, killed by Thanos)
    • Unknown person during the blip (presumably killed by T'Challa so he can get the throne back)
    • T'Challa (2024, killed again this time by Covid)
    • Ramonda (killed by Freaky Fish Person)
    • Shuri
That's 7 leadership changes in about 8 years. M'Baku staying away from the throne shows that he's the smartest person in Wakanda.

On the point about the Aztecs. Strictly speaking, the Aztecs were the inhabitants of one city (Tenochtitlan), who called themselves Mexica. The name gets applied to the hegemony through which they and two other cities ruled central Mexico. By extension, it gets applied to all the peoples of the empire. Some of the peoples of the empire were culturally assimilated by Tenochtitlan and I think they also built colonies around their empire. It's similar to how "Roman" originally meant someone who was actually from the city of Rome but was slowly applied to a broader and broader group of people.
All of that goes out the window if the merpeople came from the Yucatan, however. The Yucatan was very much Maya land.
To be clear, I haven't watched the movie so i have no idea if the merpeople are supposed to be Aztec or Maya. The filmmakers probably don't know either. I'm just leaving this comment to be clear on what the difference is: the Aztecs were one member of the triple alliance ruling central Mexico in the 15th and early 16th centuries while the Maya were and still are a group of closely related cultures and languages inhabiting the Yucatan peninsula and the lowlands of northern Guatemala/eastern Mexico and Belize.

Along with freedom of the press, religion, and everything else in the first amendment, it provides several key freedoms that work to make sure the government never becomes self-sustainingly corrupt and unaccountable. I'm still baffled by the ludicrous choices Marvel made in stage 4. They had a blueprint for success with what had come before: a dangerous allover villain building up to a big confrontation, with pieces of each movie featuring a bit of the puzzle. Instead we got disjointed stand alone films which sidelined the titular heroes, relegating them to second fiddles in their own films. Tonally they're a mess, with no logic. This phase has sucked big time, but it didn't have to.

Yes! Black Panther is the only phase 1-3 MCU film that I only watched once and made the conscious decision not to watch again.
I liked it as a better-than-average sci-fi action film, but it was unbearable to "just know" that somewhere in the world, there were people who cheered at the spiteful, venomous and regressive statements made throughout the film.
It was refreshing to see an MCU villain with their own (evil) goals, who was interesting enough to make me think (about how NOT to think about the world).
However, in the back of my mind, it was hard to ignore the subliminal messaging intended to make people rationalize or even agree with Killmonger and all the other garbage being re-presented as brand new insight.

Why isn't Michone (I have no idea how to spell it) the new Black Panther? She is established over two movies as an incredibly bad ass fighter already, one who has already proven she'd be a very effective protector. The first movie made it clear that Black Panther and King/Queen are two separate roles, so make her the defender of Wakanda; it's more believable and she's earned it, and it'd fit as some sort of redemption for her earlier "failure" to take on that mantle.

I think they were going for Namor being an opportunist who changes his plans depending on the situation (like his character in the comics) but I think they couldn’t execute that because they didn’t give him a strong enough goal in the first place so we understand his ultimate motivations when he changes his plans.

I agree with you, but the one thing that aggravates me that the writer or the director didn't realize. Was that in the first movie the Spears? They have shoot concussion blast out of it just like the iron Man suit, throughout the movie they didn't once used those weapons like they never existed to begin with.

As intellectually challenging, complex, and fulfilling as your works always are, I found that one thing in particular in this episode stood out. It must, therefore, be mentioned, and appropriately lauded. I am a YUGE fan of the Venture Brothers. The subtle musical background tone of "Sphinx!!" every time the secret organization's name was ever mentioned never failed to amuse me. In addition, though American, I lived in Germany from 1987 until 2002. This means that I was, indeed, the proud owner of several Nokia phones in the late 90s. Your relentless playing of the ringtone during the entirety of this 6 hour episode was entirely warranted. Well done, sir .. Well done.

I'm sorry I have to add one more thing. If they stayed with the comic book slightly, they could have explain that the first king of that tribe that found the plant that gives the black panther strength. When he consumed it nearly killed them and the only reason why I survived he might have been a mutant could be used for future purposes or inhuman could be used to future purposes. And that's why it can only be taken by his bloodline hence killmonger and then add it in when the first king tried to use it for his people. Those who volunteered instantly died excruciating painful deaths and he realized only his bloodline can handle it after his son ate the fruit trying to be like his dad.

This video is so good that it deserves its own 1 hours+ review and commentary. The editing and wordplay make me laugh. Which thor love and thunder did not. Also, how did Disney manage to cock up multiverse so badly? It is the anakin Skywalker of the mcu. It had the potential to be the most mind bending, fantastic, and possibly even emotional since infinity war and endgame. But Disney be like "nah. Americah Chavez my guy." Putting story telling, fun and escapism in the back seat in favor of....... THE MESSAGE 🌈 ✊🏿 The very premise that made up children mattered more to wanda than vision (which now exists reincarnated) is preposterous and stupid. Like "i had a dream i had kids so derp, im gonna brainwash an entire town, then try to something a little girl, but really imaoff mahself. Stfu show. It should have dived deep into the psyches of wanda and strange as wanda lost her grip on reality. Forcing them to explore each other's minds in the multiverse, the crushing weight of unfathomable power and limitless sight of possibility, and the strain it has taken on them both. But ill just leave writing to the pubescent activists at Disney .

I don't think I would normally praise the Hawkeye series that much, but it was unironically the best/least damaging thing in Phase 4 and Kate Bishop's characterization is downright masterful, as compared to every other new major character introduced in Phase 4. Not to say that it is actually masterful, but as a comparison... yes.
Hell, I'd even say that the flashback showing her in 2012 is the strongest and strongest presented backstory of all of Phase 4.

@Suzy Girl Tony Stark is not the lord and savior of the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. is the lord and savior of the MCU. Whatever you think of TS/IM, there is no question that the MCU would’ve had anything close to the success it did without RDJ. He brought in the normies.
I agree Shuri had a bit of an arc in this one, with her failure to save her brother. It was nothing like the extended arcs that Tony or Thor or even T’Challa went through. (Heck, it was less than what Killmonger went through.) AFAIK, it’s the first time she’s been less than 100% perfect despite being in… what? Three movies? I probably don’t have to tell you she’s not my favorite character, but you’re right: she’s not She-Hulk. Huzzah.

@wyssmaster Given the number of reboots of every other character that seems like a garbage excuse. The existence of the George Clooney Batman which is pretty universally panned didn’t prevent the Nolan Batman from getting made. It’s been 11 years that’s plenty of time. Plus now that they cast Aldis Hodge as Hawkman they can’t have him as Green Lantern. Although I suppose since they seem to be nuking the Snyderverse and everything associated with it maybe they can still use him.

Definitely have a go! Honestly, the most important advice is “finish it”. “F- it” are the two most useful words in the English language. I know plenty of very talented people who write 5 brilliant pages, get stuck, and abandon it. Ultimately, a finished book could be terrible - and still be better than that brilliant 5 pages. You learn persistence, you formulate, you develop styles and ideas; it may be that you reach the end and hate it, but your next one will be better, and your ideas can be repurposed.

I found your Channel back few months ago, subbed but only now i started consuming a lot of your long form content.
I have to say you know your stuff, not just the source materials and not just in regards to Marvel of course, but just genuine knowledge about writing, about how people read into these things.
The sentiments are consistent across franchises, i can draw a line from your ROP, Star wars, Marvel videos and it's still consistent. I really liked one such sentiment in one of your ROP video is that LOTR was Universal, Narrative, the characters, their struggles, desires, achievements and heroism awoke emotions universal among us, something that we can share among the many distinctive but often oppositional views and beliefs, despite all these there is a way to not generalize yet still be Universal on a rudimentary level and have that shared experience across communities. While ROP is localizing its characters, it's narrative while pretending to be bigger in scope then LOTR on the "social" front. Ultimately, separating it's viewers
That sentiment is transferable, a American company, with American Actors and Writers creating a story set in Africa, doing the stereotypes of WHAT THEY think Africa is, then injecting the corrupted spirit of modern America. Because They surely know it better then the Local people. The endeavor itself is set to fail, the idea of Wakanda is localized either way, you either Fail to impress the Africans wich they did but when did covering your ears and blame shifting didn't help ? Or you fail to impress your Americans on delivering the premise of portraying a Fictional place set in Africa, even tho.. That Portrayal is dictated by the minds of Americans, of what they think Africa must be like, they must be like them, African Americans, after all Americans are just American Africans.. Wait what ? not gonna lie, the more i think about it the more sickening it is.
I just wanna say if you read this, i appreciate your work.

It’s almost scary. Hollywood is making things worse for people like me, not better. I, and people like me, just want to be left alone to live our lives, yet the people making films and TV actively thrust us into the spot light, usually in a threatening way. Shouting and forcing your opinion upon others never convinces people to your point of view. If you want to make a character like me then do so, but don’t turn another favorite character that has earned their love from the audience into me, and worse, get angry when its not well received. Characters have to be well written and earn their place in history, nothing is free.

1st, When Shuri and Riri were captive in Namor's cave thing whatever, I couldn't stop laughing that one of the guards was a distractingly obese woman like why would that be the guard and I thought they were supposed to be the strongest army
2nd. After the flying microwave crashed onto the beach there's a good few minutes of Namor flying around the beach over Shuri's head and punching her, why tf didn't he just immediately fly into the ocean that was just a few feet away BEFORE flying around and punching Shuri it makes absolutely no sense

One question I have is how the Atlanteans handled the situation where half their population were suddenly erased from existence and said half suddenly reappearing 5 years later. Like I'm sure that they would be very interested as to what the hell happened and why, especially Namor.
This is one thing about the MCU's future phases. As long as these movies and TV shows remain connected to the same universe as the first 3 phases, Thanos' universe culling snap along with previous major events will keep coming back to well "haunt" these future projects especially when they introduce new factions that have apparently been around for centuries or longer.
