I graduated from medical school over twenty years ago. The sacrifices required to become a physician are still worth it. I would do it all over again. There is nothing like the feeling of satisfaction that comes from making someone better or successfully performing a procedure. I would suggest that residents pay their quarterly interest on their Med school loans. This will keep down your principal.
I'm not a medical student, however seeing a black young lady....with the word medical student alongside made me smile! You go girl! YOU ROCK! Black girl magic! :)
This video was very inspiring for all the people who attend medical school! Today was my first day as a resident. It was absolutely amazing. My interns are very kind and respectful, (I work at a teaching hospital so we have interns and a gallery). Anyone who wants to attend a teaching hospital, go for it. It's an amazing opportunity where you can get very much education as an intern that can help you after you finish and pass your internship. (All hospitals are amazing teaching resources,) Today was one of my best days at the hospital. I had a great day and everybody seemed so happy. I also got to scrub in on a brain tumor surgery. It was amazing and our patient did wonderful. I came across your channel, I was researching and accidentally clicked on KZclip (I research sometimes on my IPad). I looked in my recommendations and saw this video. It gave me so many memories.
I took a gap year, and now going back to college and decided to change my major from engineering to premed, these truly are insightful vlogs. Btw you are extremely and utterly beautiful ❤lots of love from NYC
+White Coat Chronicles +Med School Insiders hi im 18 yrolfld im goimg to start premed but now suffering from depression bcoz i lost my family in a car accident, i need to talk plz replay pll addme on skype or fb
Whoever thinks that the color of their skin is a roadblock to a successful career, should remember that brain doesn't have a color. It's the society and the poor beginnings that might cut off the dreaming part. Anybody who wants to study and work hard deserves a chance, this is not a racism issue.
Sometimes I really don’t know if I’ll be able to pursue my dreams of becoming a doctor and going though med school, but watching your videos and seeing you do it really inspires me to keep dreaming!!
I remember studying neurology in second year, if you are having any trouble i recommend Dr najeebs lectures he saved me in second year! HAHAA INSANITY!! thats my jam! That dang Tanya she is too good!
Yeah is is really great! Hahaha you're telling me i can still hear his voice in my head. "c'mon y'all lets GOOOOO" "Dont have your legs too wide.... Josh" XD
I'm not going to college and I just graduated from high school last Thursday. I've already hit a wall of depression but this made me happy. I enjoy seeing people follow their dreams and goals.
Thank you for producing this video... This is the first of all your videos that I have ever watched and I watched it with my 13-year-old son who is in the process of casually deciding on a career path. And of course, it takes information to make a good choice so your information is invaluable to us. Thanks again. - Dad
Thank you for your reply. You are very modest. If my son who is a straight A student enrolled in a curriculum that is internationally competitive decides to choose a medical career which I think fits him well then I hope he will reach out to you and other mentors in the medical world for advice... In the meantime, please keep up the good work.
As for me I've watched Precious vid everytime motivation leaves me and also to gain more motivation why I'm here and what I live for. Thank you Precious! this actually helped me to get into med school - so will be doing my VLOG too.
Wow! I thought it would feel quite nerve racking being in a big lecture hall like this but it seems very comfortable and nice and everyone seems to get along very well. The professor seems very nice and intelligent as well!
This is so inspiring as a fellow African American women who is getting ready to transfer to uni it makes me so excited so see all the hard yet inspiring work that has yet to come 😭😭😭 I totally subscribed !
Wow, as medicine student first year in high school, this was so inspiring to me and all your videos motivated me ti keep up. Nothing to say more just thank you ^^
Just stumbled across the channel, this is unique & I had to subscribe. Dated a dentist in training back in the day & saw the whole med school vibe and madness. Respect to the hard work.
very awesome vlog! you are very chill and i like how calm you make med school seem (not that it is haha) but ive seen other med school vloggers and they make their days seem so incredibly busy, and it kind of overwhelms me, but with yours, im glad i got to see a more watered-down version of med school :) your day almost reminds me of a regular day in university for me haha xD anyways, best of luck to you in your medical journey and i cant wait to see more content from you!
snow flower haha thank you!! Med school can definitely be hectic, but it's also manageable. I try to stay on top of things so I won't get overwhelmed or stressed out. Thanks for watching :)
this is such an amazing video. Your overall channel provides excellent insight on the life of a medical school student. I hope to get accepted into medical school to study the field of Neurology- and this video makes me even more excited to do so haha
Hi Precious. Good luck in your special journey. Say, while you're at the filming thing, how about filming a year of what a patient goes through? From the first misdiagnosis to the endless specialists who think the patient is just psychosomatic, to the wonderful MDs who tell the patient they don't believe the patient is seriously ill, to lost income, lost home, lost relationships and other irrelevancies to the marvelous physician's increasingly affluent life. Maybe you can ask them what makes them feel so depressed, perhaps encourage them to get addictive SSRIs, and film that patient a few years later when the patient had to accurately self diagnose cancer or immune dysfunction or malabsorption, but can't afford Obamacare anymore. At that time you will be off on your exciting career of upwardly mobile greed mongering with an advanced degree in overbilling and antipathy. Good luck and don't kill any cadavers, lol.
I instantly recognized that skyline as Atlanta, Georgia. My hat goes off to you, Ms. Precious; medical school has been described to me like trying to drink from a firehose! Best of luck to you and your studies!!
Thank you for this insight! It is something I have been very curious about. I start medical school in January. :) This is wonderful to see! Thank you Ma'am!
i love all your videos🙆♀️im a college in sg aiming for med sch(btw college in singapore means junior college sorta like high sch in the us) but in sg its really difficult(not saying that its not for you in your country)so im really inspired by your video❤
I loved this! I'm a nursing student, and yessss I love insanity! Try Insanity Max 30! I started it because each video is only 30 minutes (as opposed to the varying times of regular insanity) and it still kicks your ass! Saves you some time so you can nap some more.. or study more lol :) Best of luck to you !!!
Wow so I just came across your page and I love it ! I'm not in medical school (even though I during my freshman year I was taking all the pre-requisites so I can get into medical school and decided it wasn't for me lol) but I love watching your videos and I have a nephew who just graduated from high school and wants to be a cardiovascular surgeon and I recommended your page to him so he can get a small glimpse into the med school life. You are doing amazing and I wish you the best of luck on your journey ! #blackgirlmagic
Wow! I usually don’t comment under videos but I had to comment under this. I remember watching this video 5 years ago hoping that I would make it into medical school, specifically Morehouse School of Medicine. Well, here are 5 years later and this video pops up again but guess what?! I am a now a medical student at Morehouse School of Medicine and we just did the SAME lecture today. Isn’t it funny how God works? Today was a hard day for me but this was a reminder for me to keep going! And yes, I love the life lessons from this professor ❤!
Would you suggest this career path? I think that the entire process of becoming a doctor and the being a doctor sounds great. I've heard it's hard work and I have lots of time ahead of me to decided but do you think it's a good way to go? I've been told not to because it's not worth it but what do you think?
Joygirlq02 well that opinion is personalized. To some it's worth it, to some its not. As a first year medical student I haven't been through enough to say if it's worth it or not. I guess I'll find out in 3 more years lol. But if you have a passion for medicine, go for it. Also try to do some shadowing and talk to some docs to get their outlook
Your video so Inspiring,be a doctor is my passion Since I was in Primary school,So now I work hard to be like you...Proud of you.. From Timor-Leste...😘
I'm from Metro Atlanta too! South side, Clayco haha I'm studying to be an RN, but I watch a lot of med students on KZclip. It's great to see someone from Atlanta doing great things and inspiring so many other people. Keep it up.
I love it. I'm in med school myself; t attending Ross overseas....and I'm from ATL. I wish I would have blogged my journe from the beginning. Yesssss. It can be challenging but....it's so good to see i'm not alone in the struggle. All the best
Immanuel Crump I would recommend shadowing to see if you'll truly enjoy it. Try multiple specialties. Make good grades and get involved in extracurriculars. General chemistry is a requirement, so of course it's important to get a grade, but it's not used heavily (from my first year experience). Just acid base chemistry mostly.
I am currently a biology major. I was thinking about switching to something that will help me pass the Mcat. I did research and read that science majors aren't the high percentage of people who pass it. What major did you have in your undergrad year. And what major do you recommend. Lastly I talked to a doctor who was a philosophy major. He told me that in order to pass the test you have to be well rounded and not have just a science way of thinking.
I was a biology major. You can be any major as long as you take the basic sciences and have a strong foundation in it. General biology and chemistry, organic chemistry and physics. Yes, It's important to be well rounded. There's also a social science section and a reading section :)
I love your video very insightful, I am in graduate school now for Master's of Science in psychology. I have decided to get my Ph.D and people told me why not just apply to the Ph.D program, you have a B.A. It is not about just getting into a Ph.D program it is about getting in to a field of study I love. definitely keep doing the videos, you seem like a cool person to have a conversation with.
I just had my first year of medical school in Mexico City. I had it similar to you,but a couple are changed. 1) First, my first lecture started at 7am, so couldn't really make a quick breakfast. 2) Second, had to be in full white uniform.
Omg I love this I'm now a high school senior I graduate 2018 and I want to attend Howard and become an OBGYN and seeing this just makes me want it more
I’m 15 and it has been a dream since I was 7 years old to become an obstetrician/ gynecologists. I watch a lot of videos on this field and it is my passion to become one. I really hope my dream come true
Do you have any tips for memorizing large quantities of information? I'm sure you have to do quite a bit of it, and I always struggle to retain information like that. Thank you, love all your videos :)
+White Coat Chronicles . hey mam plz replay back my situation is that when was 17 yr old i complete my high school from Boston in usa and then i decide to go to premed but recently i got a call from hospital that my family-dad, mom and a brother are died in car accident im in Boston im alone i have no friends and family in boston and i dont know how to focus on my first semester of premed due to my family problemsplz i need ur guidance plz replay back
I love the medical world and have worked in it now in mental health for 5 years. I have a Masters in Psychology with a specialty in Chemical Dependency. I have worked with children, mentally delayed, sex offenders, Methadone patient's, Emergency detox, veterans, elderly you name it. I currently am a co occurring disorders counselor at a Emergency Psychiatric floor of a hospital. I really like what I do, but I feel I have a calling to get an MD. My GPA was around 3.2 in college and about 3.3 in grad school. At the time school was not my number 1 thing in my life, but now I am truly dedicated. After taking the prerequisites I hope they take into account my work experience and give me a chance.
I am so stoked to start my first year in college. I have one problem though. I put alarms to study but when it comes time I end up doing nothing. I eventually study but sleep late :( idk how to fix this.
Jerel Yama where do you study? In your room? I often find that I'm most unmotivated to study when I stay home and try to study in my room. Maybe switch up your study location
hopefully someone whose been to medical school can help me with this, are most lecture/class sizes about that size? (assuming I don't go to a very large medical school). because its always been important to me to have small class sizes so I have the ability to have a more personal relationship with the teacher and other students.
hey i'm so proud to see this! it seems to me that you attend an HBCU, I'm just curious to know which one, because I'm looking forward to attending an HBCU Med-school. thanks
as a 14 year old, i know i really shouldn't be worrying to much about what i should go to college for, but i'm really torn between med school and a variety of of other science degrees. i've always wanted to help people and make a difference (i know, very cliché) and that's why i want to become a doctor, but by doing that, i could make a mistake and potentially kill someone. i honestly don't know what to do....
Rare Shibe there's still plentyyy of time to explore your options. Even going into college, people remain undecided. You can also shadow different professions as well, to get an idea of what you like.
Hey there :) Med school is 4 years and you apply while in college or once you graduated from college. The first 2 years of med school is in the classroom and the last two are in a clinical setting.
Do you mind making a video on how you got into med school? Like maybe talk about the things you did...ur undergrd gpa, mcat, how u studied for that, etc.
Keep up the nice work!! Just subbed, one of the few quality med school vlogs on youtube. By the way, health tip: NEVER, unless in an emergency, microwave something in plastic. Some stuff can "leak" out into your food. Just saying!! Good video!!
Lucero Lopez lol in this video, I was studying in the library. I usually study at home or at a coffee shop near my apt. But mostly at home. Glad you enjoyed the video and good luck on your journey to med school!!
I started med school in 2015, in Brazil, and is very cool to see how medicine is learned around the world! :) oh, and could you pass the link of the music of the video? I didn't find it. Thank u!
Lol, your video popped up on my feed and i thought, oh my goodness that's the library and the pavillion. So cool to see the MSM campus from a student perspective. I am an IMG currently working in the CRC, Building F. Maybe i will meet you one of these days! Good luck with your program!

So proud and happy to see the classroom filled with young African American students!!! What medical school is this? Thinking about applying!!!
I wrote this comment 3 years ago, I didn’t know she went to a HBCU....😂
Ultimakey wrong. You obviously don’t know what an HBCU is
nomnom That’s not how the hbu schools work. Only AA benefit from affirmative action at every HBC.
Whoever thinks that the color of their skin is a roadblock to a successful career, should remember that brain doesn't have a color. It's the society and the poor beginnings that might cut off the dreaming part. Anybody who wants to study and work hard deserves a chance, this is not a racism issue.
Mash wrong at hbcu’s non blacks benefit from affirmative action. Good try tho

I remember studying neurology in second year, if you are having any trouble i recommend Dr najeebs lectures he saved me in second year! HAHAA INSANITY!! thats my jam! That dang Tanya she is too good!
What made cerebral blow flow difficult to master in your opinion?
Dr. Najeeb and Anatomy Zone literally saved my preclinical anatomy years!
Dr Najeeb saved me too 😂😂
MedicEne You also know this dr? I guess all medical students know this dr (:
Yeah is is really great! Hahaha you're telling me i can still hear his voice in my head. "c'mon y'all lets GOOOOO"
"Dont have your legs too wide.... Josh" XD
I'm not going to college and I just graduated from high school last Thursday. I've already hit a wall of depression but this made me happy. I enjoy seeing people follow their dreams and goals.

Super informative!

I loved your vlog. Seeing all the black excellence in your class/field is inspiring. Keep up the great work!!!
Basically my day in PT school! Go doctors! :)
What advice would you give to a student thinking about medical school? And what if I'm not good at chemistry?
Immanuel Crump I would recommend shadowing to see if you'll truly enjoy it. Try multiple specialties. Make good grades and get involved in extracurriculars.
General chemistry is a requirement, so of course it's important to get a grade, but it's not used heavily (from my first year experience). Just acid base chemistry mostly.
One day,my life will also be like this..I too will be studying medicine
My dream to be a doctor
I am currently a biology major. I was thinking about switching to something that will help me pass the Mcat. I did research and read that science majors aren't the high percentage of people who pass it. What major did you have in your undergrad year. And what major do you recommend. Lastly I talked to a doctor who was a philosophy major. He told me that in order to pass the test you have to be well rounded and not have just a science way of thinking.
MCAT isn't a pass/fail exam. I did well enough to not have to take it twice. I could have done much better though.
Did you pass the test the very first time you took it?
For me, being a science major was the way to go. But it's different for everyone. I felt that prepared me the best.
I was a biology major. You can be any major as long as you take the basic sciences and have a strong foundation in it. General biology and chemistry, organic chemistry and physics.
Yes, It's important to be well rounded. There's also a social science section and a reading section :)

Do you have any tips for memorizing large quantities of information? I'm sure you have to do quite a bit of it, and I always struggle to retain information like that. Thank you, love all your videos :)

I am thinking of going to med school in 2018. Loved this video!
Awesome!
hopefully someone whose been to medical school can help me with this, are most lecture/class sizes about that size? (assuming I don't go to a very large medical school). because its always been important to me to have small class sizes so I have the ability to have a more personal relationship with the teacher and other students.
hey i'm so proud to see this! it seems to me that you attend an HBCU, I'm just curious to know which one, because I'm looking forward to attending an HBCU Med-school. thanks
Your videos are great! Please keep them coming.
It sounds super interesting I would love to learn all this
I think that you will be a successful woman one day ,good luck 💁🏻💜
you and I have something in common (Exept from studying medicine): neither of us chews the food as much as we should when eating xD
im also taking med school and i just wanted to say u always inspire me
Patricia Neverio thank you, that means a lot :)
as a 14 year old, i know i really shouldn't be worrying to much about what i should go to college for, but i'm really torn between med school and a variety of of other science degrees. i've always wanted to help people and make a difference (i know, very cliché) and that's why i want to become a doctor, but by doing that, i could make a mistake and potentially kill someone. i honestly don't know what to do....
Rare Shibe there's still plentyyy of time to explore your options. Even going into college, people remain undecided. You can also shadow different professions as well, to get an idea of what you like.
This is why I had told so many premed classmates to take anatomy and physiology before going to Med school
Great Job.. You are so lucky what a awesome field to be a part of.. I love watching very interesting
This inspired me to get my masters degree thank you so much

Hi I am a little girl having a passion to be a pediatrician and I wanted to know how medical school works thank you 😊
Hey there :)
Med school is 4 years and you apply while in college or once you graduated from college.
The first 2 years of med school is in the classroom and the last two are in a clinical setting.
Do you mind making a video on how you got into med school? Like maybe talk about the things you did...ur undergrd gpa, mcat, how u studied for that, etc.
Rania I’ve made that vid already. One of my first vids. Check it out.
Keep up the nice work!! Just subbed, one of the few quality med school vlogs on youtube. By the way, health tip: NEVER, unless in an emergency, microwave something in plastic. Some stuff can "leak" out into your food. Just saying!! Good video!!
White Coat Chronicles so you're just gonna add in "a day" all nonchalant and not expect anyone to notice 👀😂
I study about 5-6 hours a day.
