I attempted to make this burger immediately after I returned from the theater. It was one of the best burgers I ever had. The caramelized onions were the best part of it.
Also, seeing the tiniest little mistakes even in videos today and not only refusing it edit it out, but narrate them is simply beautiful. Babish has always prided himself on admitting the mistakes he makes in his videos, and it's only made him consistently humble. Even if it's something as tiny as the tripod being just a hair off.
Hawthorn prices include gratuity, as stated in the scene before Dessert, so that store-bought ingredients burger is priced almost exactly correct. Also the point was that it doesn't take fancy ingredients to make great food. Great food is made with care and love.
Out of all the dishes presented on “The Menu” The cheeseburger was honestly the most appetizing looking meal Edit: If someone responds with another comment being “that’s the point of the movie 🤓” like gee you don’t think I figured that out when I watched the movie
I cannot overstate my respect for turning "making processed cheese product" into something that looks luxurious and gourmet and maybe like something I might actually want to try.
Protip: if you don't have sodium citrate, you can make your own sodium citrate solution by reacting baking soda(sodium bicarbonate) with lemon or lime juice(citric acid) in a warm pan over medium/medium low heat. Make sure it's fully reacted before adding milk so it doesn't curdle. Adam Ragusea has a video with this technique in it.
They weren't crinkle cut. That was just an option he gave her. I just watched minutes ago because of this episode (I had no idea what the movie was about, but the ordering and receiving of the order fascinated me) and the fries were julienne. Almost steak fry thickness.
This is exactly the type of video I have been missing from babish. I’ve felt like there hasn’t been much “binging” in most of the recent ones! So nice to see a longer video where you can tell he took time to get everything perfect!
@leafchaser09 Like I mentioned Here he has equipment, crew and ingredients. I just think he's too lazy to build his channel since he has all this now... He threw away previous work because 10 mil isn't anything small. Especially with cooking channel
@Do the flip i definitely feel like alvin’s putting a lot more work here than into his own channel which kind of doesn’t make sense to me. i don’t know how to put it but just like killbot said, lots of us came here for BABISH, not alvin
@X9Killbot Yeppers, I mean Alvin can stay sure. But i kinda feel like he's leeching off of Andrew to get out of buzzfeed. I'm certainly not interested in "Anime with Alvin" After all Andrew has already 9.99mil sub as of this comment. I feel like Alvin could have his own cooking channel but HE DOESN'T WANT TO since he has "Babish" and all his equipment and crew. Andrew worked HARD for YEARS for what he has now. Alvin went in an had everything ready and now everyone loves him. But that's just imo
@Do the flip Yeah. I came here because I liked Babish, his voice, his commentary, and his technique. Alvin just doesn't have it for me. It's like when King of Random got his co-host. I just didn't like the new guy's stuff.
@X9Killbot I mean I feel like Alvin is fifth wheel to all of this. After all Babish made things from anime before Alvin came into picture so I don't see point of having "Anime with Alvin"
I’m not exactly sure why, and I can’t eloquently put this into words… but this video felt so perfect. A classic Binging With Babish video with Andrew recreating a simple meal into something that does not demand 100-hundred extra steps. But he did it anyways, and it was beautiful. Oh and can’t forget about Juparo playing in the background. :)
Great episode; the "reverse Coldstone" idea you had for the American cheese was very extra and the results were beautiful. But yeah, both burgers looked awesome and you totally didn't need to do that. Both this and "Pretty Patties" were some of the best Babish videos I've seen in a while.
Babby, I work at a deli and I must say a majority of folks are just happy to get freshly sliced American cheese, it don’t gotta be photogenic and symmetrical but props to you all the way
@Solgaleo35 Yeah, both courses involve the death of a person, or persons in the case of the s'mores, highly recommend the movie though, it's hilarious. They call it a horror comedy, but they lean heavily into the comedy, absurdist and black, and barely any horror (beyond the premise, that people will get hurt).
I think this video also represents how babish used to make things from scratch, like the buns and even the cheese. The passion to make things from scratch is what made babish successful, kinda like the movie where the chef used to have passion with making food.
I cried to this "horror movie" as both a fan of movies and Professional chef. I was moved by this move the feeling in my chest and the tears I shed. It was ocredible
I absolutely LOVE that this got back to the more traditional BWB formula: “we made it the cheap and easy way to match the show/movie, now how can we make it better?” Much more like old school BWB episodes that I loved years ago! Great video!
@loserbrandon My bad, it appears I've heavily misjudged the original comment's point. Initially thought they were referring to how 'less of Babish' has contributed to decrease in view count, appears I was wrong
@gouda cheese I wrote an argument but it deleted, but I'll just summarize my points. I think it's just KZclip's cycle. Babish's views have been declining even before the universe (if we point Alvin as the beginning). It's also important to note that alvin's videos performing poorly is more of a hit or miss, and we can see this because it happens typically when he's making more unknown food. Koufuku Grafitti and Asteroid in Love are niche at best and generally unknown to even the most well-versed anime fan. It's a no-brainer that they would garner less views. I don't disagree that the other videos are performing poorly, probably due to the exclusion of Babish, but I personally don't see Alvin as an issue (which was my main point, I don't think Alvin is at fault for the degradation of views). I personally like Alvin's videos, and while I think that Babish would probably get more views if he did the food himself, I don't think that it's actively detrimental considering the workload involved, if he were to do everything.
You absolutely can add water to a dry dough, it's called bassinage and it actually helps when making any bread product. This allows the dough to hold more water than if all the water was mixed in at once. Also the average burger bun in the restaurant is weighed at around 90g before the second proof.
something about coming back to your channel and still seeing your passion and fun creativity for food and how it affects us is amazing and gives me chills everytime
Honestly, my favorite part of these videos is watching people eat the food, especially in groups. I appreciate knowing that you eat the food and you don't waste it. Now I'm hungry!
@Jack1994hoo I went with friends and just said I wasn't hungry. Still paid my part for the meal so I kinda regretted watching that movie before eating.
this video is pure art, thank you for creating it. everything oozes with class - from the way you made those fries, to the movie like filters & on screen labels to the fact that you went back and redid the American cheese - what a Chad!
I always thought that scene was really unique like he was the victim he always wanted to be famous but it made him unhappy and then when he finally got something simple from he's early years and something that made him happy which made the food taste better like right before he dies/kills the whole room he's going out happy serving a happy customer just like his old days
to me there is nothing better than a simple, yet well made Cheeseburger. i will definitely be coming back to this when i am ready to make an amazing yet simply delicious Cheeseburger.
What I liked about the cheeseburger in the movie was that it wasn't a fancy, gourmet burger, but an ordinary one. The chef was excited to make it because it was most likely the first time in years that he had made ordinary food instead of fine dining food that needed to look perfect. Trust me, I get that same feeling when I make a burger at home.
@Google made me do it they're talking about a sense of play and fun in the craft, not sense of humour. Obviously if you don't enjoy cooking then this stuff isn't for you, this is for people that love to immerse themselves in experimentation and trying to create the best food they can. This isn't the same as why the weird abstract art pieces they called food were so joyless to make in the movie at all. The point of the movie isn't that elaborate cooking is bad. It's that cooking that pursues art over genuine satisfaction for shallow wealthy people that just want to throw money at novel experiences to say they did it, is soul destroying. Money and power is the issue here, and those it's corrupted that use those around them to feed their own whimsical egos.
Exactly! When Margot makes it behind the silver door, she sees an old photo of him when he first started cooking. He was cooking a cheeseburger, so that’s probably where she got the idea from. It’s where his passion and love for cooking started.
@Google made me do it Show cooking is what Babish used to do super often though, and he went back to that formula for this episode. Whenever he does something simple, he does it the way most people would first and then he overcomplicates it for the giggles. See: the Regular Show grilled cheese sandwich episode. Dude's just having fun and messing around in a kitchen on camera lol, don't worry bout it
@Julian Little Nah, it's exactly what the movie addresses. Pretentious show cooking that has no point other than showing off. Just buy your buns and cheese at the store, mate!
Now I really wanna see a "Botched by Babish"-Style episode of the full footage for this episode, just to see how Andrew gradually gets so frustrated that he rips the crinkle cutter apart.
@Wod theHunter I completely understood the movie but it was incredibly lackluster. Not the funniest comedy, and the gimmick wasn't used very creatively for the most part. Very underwhelming
No matter what even if im already full you manage to make me hungry and i dont know whether to be thankful or slightly annoyed but either way im still hangry
@Clayton Marnin She was allowed to leave because she played it smart. First, she sent something back to the kitchen. His etiquette forces him to please her, so she orders the burger. Then, she asks if she can take it home, and we all know you can order burgers at the restaurant and take them home. It's a genius poker game on her part and he loved being a part of it. Just this ordinary interaction instead of this stuffy mess he got himself into.
Loved this epp. Always enjoy seeing you break down and explain all the components. Felt like a classic Babish epp when you went and remade the cheese slices. Burger looked great. Well done!

On second viewing, I got there early, ordered a drink and asked my server to bring me a burger toward at the end of the movie. She brought it at the EXACT moment "just a well made cheeseburger" popped up on screen.
I have a local theater that serves food but it's awful! I feel like seeing that burger on the screen while eating whatever puck they give me would be a miserable experience.
@Dr. Turkey yeah it seems to be doing fine. I haven't been to a movie where the theater was totally full, but they are well staffed, clean and it seems to be picking up. The only thing I've noticed is that the bar in the front area where you used to be able to get a drink before sitting down is never open anymore. All things considered I think this is a pretty decent tradeoff.
I’m kind of embarrassed that it took me a while to realize this show that was referenced in the episode was a horror/thriller/whatever thing and not a wholesome sitcom
You should do an episode featuring the food from Total Drama Island's "Brunch of Disgustingness " episode. The food may or may not be edible but at least it'd be a really fun watch and an opportunity for fans to see the "dishes" in live-action.
Sir babish, you are a delight to watch and listen to. the nerdiness is spot on. thank you for doing these videos. you inspire me to make great food for my family. kind regards and keep it up.
Babish! I have been watching you for years and years and have always wondered what food I would suggest and I finally have it! The foods from A Knights Tale! Like dilled veal balls and squash fritters. Also, I am literally writing this to you in the middle of the night after waking from a dead sleep with this realization. Hope all is well!!
I love how the whole point of the scene was that it was just a simple burger but Andrew just Couldn’t hold back making something fancy
The whole point of the movie
@Joshua Chesney but the fine dining was a pre-planned event....regular buns coulda been on the island.
in Andrews defence, the more homemade burger looks absolutely amazing
@very cool though* There's a "ugh" in there. Use them.
As Ordinary Sausage said "There's no such thing as a gourmet burger!"
You gotta make Tyler’s meal. His technique was flawless.
We must learn from Tyler
@vit An unessential item for the home chef.
Picasso of fine dining
NO
Hey I appreciate it man
As a Burger I can indeed confirm this is how a CheeseBurger is made 🍔
@Alex Grimm ✋🍔🤚 you got me
How’d you type this?
@Mark ThompsonA lot of people do
@8bitGutPunch Yes I have met hot dog a fine fellow
I attempted to make this burger immediately after I returned from the theater. It was one of the best burgers I ever had. The caramelized onions were the best part of it.
Only way onions should be eaten on a cheeseburger.

Your perseverance to finish the crinkle cut fries with the wonky knife deserves applause. 👏🏼
@non ey was
Did anyone else see his hand bleeding?
I bet his kitchen is thrashed after these videos
@Tobias Vilain Newman I haven't seen the movie yet, but this sounds incredibly appropriate!
No. He deserves a singular clap, like in the movie.
Hawthorn prices include gratuity, as stated in the scene before Dessert, so that store-bought ingredients burger is priced almost exactly correct. Also the point was that it doesn't take fancy ingredients to make great food. Great food is made with care and love.
It like Ratatouille but minus the complex making of the classic food for the "food critic"...
Out of all the dishes presented on “The Menu” The cheeseburger was honestly the most appetizing looking meal
Edit: If someone responds with another comment being “that’s the point of the movie 🤓” like gee you don’t think I figured that out when I watched the movie

that’s the point of the movie 🤓
that’s the point of the movie 🤓
@Gustavo Wadas Lopesnahh 💀💀
That sort of being the point.
I love the burger scene, because the message is basically "Even at the top, don't forget where you started".
I never thought of putting the onions in the patties that’s genius
Gonna do it from now on!
This is why I appreciate Babish - dude goes all the way
I’ve always wanted a cheeseburger from the menu but I’ve never been bold enough to order one
There are no substitutes at The Hawthorn
order a cheeseburger, it might save your life
Stop giving this bot likes 🙄
@masterimbecile i want to get the s'more for apetizers

it's funny to imagine everyone in the room waiting to die for hours while the Chef painstakingly creates American cheese with this method

Love your work man, cheesy burger beards are a thing of beauty.
I want to make that cheeseburger so bad now. Not the fancy one, the one that cost seven dollars.
Something tells me he didn’t want to recreate “The Mess” or “The S’mores.”
😢
@Don't Read My Profile Picture I did it anyway.
@ItsYourBoyReckster Ingredients: Babish Culinary Universe Staff, Home Studio, KZclip Channel

@John Bones Just use a standard 20" circumference...the chocolate will gently melt to the head for a custom fit.

@Johan S he has his own channel
Andrew's the one who got him in to the crew.
@Nick ThaTrick same man, it seems like everyone is restructuring their channels and content, sad but we have to move on

This was the most fun movie of last year
Best movie of the decade hands down
otimo
👍
very nice
Funtastic
Seeing Andrew trying to unhinge his jaw to eat everything is just too perfect.
ok
It’s like a snake 😂
Cheeseburgers are ALWAYS Super Tasty and Delicious! 😋🤤
@The Gaming Paladin Exactly! I Absolutely Agree! 😀😄😃😁
absolutely, and you can really have a Cheeseburger anytime of the day, as well as just get creative with it, much akin to Pizza.
I was hoping for a whole special with almost all the food of The Menu but I suppose this will do
I love how the part where they come out as too big is kept in.
I want nothing more in this life than to be given 10 minutes with a burger like that 😍
Honestly, my favorite part of these videos is watching people eat the food, especially in groups. I appreciate knowing that you eat the food and you don't waste it. Now I'm hungry!
This was the most fun movie of last year, and that scene had me craving a burger for a week after
@Jack1994hoo I went with friends and just said I wasn't hungry. Still paid my part for the meal so I kinda regretted watching that movie before eating.
@Tang Stephen so... What did you do at the restaurant if you didn't eat?
@Matt & Arya well, you have to excuse me for thinking "the menu" was referring to the actual menu in the movie XD
Thanks.
@Chocolate Disco It seems obvious but haven't bothered seeing the movie. Can we get a QRD?
@Chocolate Disco ok
this video is pure art, thank you for creating it. everything oozes with class - from the way you made those fries, to the movie like filters & on screen labels to the fact that you went back and redid the American cheese - what a Chad!
The Menu was a great movie. At the ending I was also craving a cheeseburger.
I always thought that scene was really unique like he was the victim he always wanted to be famous but it made him unhappy and then when he finally got something simple from he's early years and something that made him happy which made the food taste better like right before he dies/kills the whole room he's going out happy serving a happy customer just like his old days

This man could pour me a bowl of cereal and I would still think its the greatest thing I've ever had.
Now I really wanna see a "Botched by Babish"-Style episode of the full footage for this episode, just to see how Andrew gradually gets so frustrated that he rips the crinkle cutter apart.
Oo I would definitely watch that
bro really made the most perfect cheeseburger in the history of humankind
This is why I'm subscribed to this channel. I love it when he goes over the top with everything to make something truly epic.
I really respect and appreciate your dedication to your craft so much do that you would even remake the cheese 24hrs prior to uploading
I never thought that the line “Can I have that to go please” can give me chills
@Wod theHunter I completely understood the movie but it was incredibly lackluster. Not the funniest comedy, and the gimmick wasn't used very creatively for the most part. Very underwhelming
Tow4_subaccount no, but I can report you for spam.
Let’s not get into a comment war please-
@Dre "I give Tim Pool Massive Wedgies" Flem i get that
@Dre "I give Tim Pool Massive Wedgies" Flem Its black comedy. It's meant to be funny. It doesn't mean it can't be tense too.
No matter what even if im already full you manage to make me hungry and i dont know whether to be thankful or slightly annoyed but either way im still hangry
With a burger like that, along w/ fries, you would make one HELLUVA burger joint! 😋 ❤ 🍔
Well, I guess I’ll make gourmet cheeseburgers this Sunday 😅
This movie was excellent. Can’t wait to make this burger 🍔
Now I want a burger!! :)
Ah yes. The one dish that started it all for Chef Slowik and it was probably the only one he genuinely enjoyed making in that film.
@Google made me do it Yeah. She certainly worked that out better than Nicholas Hoult trying to simp for Slowik.
@Clayton Marnin She was allowed to leave because she played it smart. First, she sent something back to the kitchen. His etiquette forces him to please her, so she orders the burger. @mastod0n1 Okay, okay the branch is holding *IT'SNOTHOLDING--*
@Mark Tyler I am...forever. I AM IMMORTAL!
Wow, excellent analysis on what the movie both shows and explains clearly to us.
I like how the final shot has a LOT of color contrast between the two meals. It’s like hdr being off vs on
Loved this epp. Always enjoy seeing you break down and explain all the components. Felt like a classic Babish epp when you went and remade the cheese slices. Burger looked great. Well done!
Does anyone else notice Alvin's onion from the curry of life still sitting there on the stove at 5:17 😂😂
Congratulations on just hitting 10 million subscribers! Can't wait to see that Diamond Play Button!
HE WOULD BE ONE OF THE CHEFS IN THE MOVIE!
Something to make after reaching 10 mil subscribers:
The Simpsons- Ethiopian Dish (The Food Wife episode)
The Owl House- Fried Orb
Cruella- Baroness' Lunch
The Looney Tunes Show- Daffy's Complicated Banana Split (Peel of Fortune episode)
Steven Universe- Literally All Toppings Pizza
This man's dedication to make a Cheese burger astounds me
Activated full on cravings mode! ❤️🤤🍔
Your buns look amazing.
The Menu was awesome! Now I want a cheese burger too. 🍔
I saw this movie at an Alamo Drafthouse, twice. It's a place that serves real food and drink (not concessions) seat side whenever you want.
On second viewing, I got there early, ordered a drink and asked my server to bring me a burger toward at the end of the movie.
She brought it at the EXACT moment "just a well made cheeseburger" popped up on screen.

Did yours fare well after COVID? It used to be my favorite place to go but their prices increased and they took hotdogs off the menu 😔
That’s like a 5D movie experience
I quite enjoy going to Alamo Drafthouse for their special film menus.
I'm definitely doing this recipe.
That Andrew would go back and re-make the cheese says a lot about his commitment and passion. Bravo Zulu, Sir.
NOW I WANT A CHEESEBURGER!
I haven’t seen your videos in a while, but I love watching you do your thing. One day i will make one of these recipes just because of you ❤
The burgers were delicious! 😋 Thank you Babish! ❤️
I love watching babish at night while i eat ketchup bread for dinner.
"The menu" was awesome
Burger is awesome
and
Babish is awesome !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Julienne are much smaller than fries ... this is killing me and he speaks of a traditional burger and smashes the patties ... I was crying inside.
I'm waiting for Babish to make 'The Mess' from this movie. The creativity of that dish really blew my mind.
I see what you did there 😂
Bravo sir. Another brilliant video. The time you take to do these and the effort you put in is nothing short of genius dude. Keep rocking :)
What a nice looking show! Surely nothing bad happens in it..
@Committee of Nations
Not too bright are you
I’m kind of embarrassed that it took me a while to realize this show that was referenced in the episode was a horror/thriller/whatever thing and not a wholesome sitcom
Oh you sweet summer child!
@Committee of Nations ironic
@The Kurdboard Warrior the joke ✈️
Your head
Looks like you picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue
I knew we'd get a Babish video of this the first time I saw the scene.
Yesss as soon as I saw this scene in the theaters I wanted to see Babish cover it!! Now please do the rest of the meals in the movie too😁
Thank you babish. I’ve been waiting for you to do this.
You should do an episode featuring the food from Total Drama Island's "Brunch of Disgustingness " episode. The food may or may not be edible but at least it'd be a really fun watch and an opportunity for fans to see the "dishes" in live-action.
I dont even eat dairy but i want this burger. 😍
I've never seen anyone put so much time and effort into making a burger with fries!
Creating your own American cheese is so extra. I LOVE it!
Of all the food in The Menu, the cheeseburger is the best meal ever shown in the movie.
That burger looked amazing
As soon as I saw this burger I knew I was craving it with some extra pickles
Now I want to eat a cheeseburger
Let's go to Hawthorne
As an Oklahoman I can confirm we do this with our onions on our burgers but I’ve never heard it called Oklahoma style until today
Loved the final moments of everyone getting a piece of the burger and some fries. Team meal!
I love watching babish make food with actual nutrition while I eat a bag of chips
On any day in February, make Homer Simpson's Valentine Breakfast from, "I Love Lisa", episode
I think the only thing I’d try to make from this is…. Everything. But the bun will be first. Those buns look amazing.
Any return of Being with Babish planned? Love your personality and style and all the additional guest star seasons!
