Ya know what kills me. The whole premise of the doctor strange might kill the universes is all based on the idea that strange is selfish enough to keep doing what he wants after the threat is contained. Despite the fact that the strange who they killed and the one infront of them right now has embodied the lesson that it's not about them. They condemn the unselfish doctor stranges while there are menaces out there in the multiverse killing other stranges.
1:29:19 .. Im glad he wasnt included in anything more. Im tired of fakeversity garbage-characters from garbage-writers being inserted with no real point.
All these movies have plot holes, it's only now you started looking at them. (Not one noticed Iron Man was making a suit of armor instead of missiles? )
The concept that was most heart-breakingly wasted was the idea that Strange had a sister who he felt he couldn't save a long time ago. That should have been way more of an interesting "what if" for the multiverse. So he goes to all these multiverse locations seeing Christine and how he failed again and again to keep her, only to turn a corner in one of the universes and see his sister. Maybe she is the Dr Strange in that universe and Stephen was the one who died. But she found Kamar-Taj in a desperate effort to save her brother, tried to use the time stone and ended up needing to save the world from the consequences of her changing the timeline (imagine that being movie one for her instead). They talk and his sister wants to hear all about his life since her brother never got to live one. Strange finally admits he is not happy and does not know how to let go of needing to be the one to "hold the knife". She agrees that she feels the same and maybe part of the climactic battle could involve Strange and his sister working together and work in some scenario where Strange has to let go of control (perhaps to access some new power or something, you could still probably bring in that awesome wings of death thing because its cool and I love magic that deals with the dead). Its not perfect but it just makes me want to write my own little version of the movie with all the amazing possibilities that they didn't explore here. I would have completely replaced the Illuminati sequence with this one, even America's family trauma could then be discussed when she sees Strange getting along with his sister, no need for a stupid and lazy "memory store". So much possibility wasted in the name of fanservice... **shakes head**
Im being dismissive when I say the multiverse concept is so limited regardless what happens and is a least convoluted time traveler plot. What if scenarios like that of the Flash Point Paradox have been done in the last 20 years. I liked how the Justice League handles a different timeline in the first season of the show which funny enough one of the episodes in that arch is titled Endgame. That episode btw has Steve Trevor interact with his “angel” (Wonder Woman) and once the timeline was fixed back into place you see WW going to a nursing home. The nurse guides her to a bench where Trevor looks up now much older and says “angel?!”. Talk about touching and emotional endings to ONE arch of the show. All I want to say is multiverse idea of his sister is already a cliche by the time the film were to ever explore it. I guess the writing would make it engaging but then again Marvel writing never really stood out past Infinity War.
That sounds like it could have made a fantastic movie. Unfortunately the MCU is no longer being character-driven, it's mostly spectacle and empty representation now.
I'm seriously impressed how they introduce two legendary ever-being sources of an ultimate arcane power in one movie - and in the same movie destroyed them both. With a knife and with a spark.
The scene where Black Bolt pops his own head felt 100% like a scene from The Boys. Goofy ass team, acts all tough and elevated, faces an actual strong and evil opponent, the supposed super strong character nukes himself in the dumbest yet brutal way. Haven't seen the movie but LOVED how you described this part. Hands down my favorite scene in the entire fourth Phase IV.
The thing that really bugged me is Strange will do a mindwipe on the entire planet to fix Peter's mistake, but he won't sit down with Wanda for 10 minutes to look at options to bring the fictional kids into being for real. He and Wanda could just do that, no harm no foul.
To be honest, the line "Have you ever had that dream where you're falling as if you've been pushed off a really tall building? That was probably me" COULD WORK in a movie that wasn't concentraded piss in a jar left to ferment for a thousand years until wizards found it, drank it, thinking it was some grand elixer and shat out this movie with the rest of their brains
They needed to set parameters for the magic in the film. Maybe peeking into the lives of alternate selves could happen in dreams, but most people can't do it fully or something.
"You are trying to kill countless people to be able to kill an innocent girl to then kill an innocent version of yourself to then hang out with children who aren't even yours because you got depressed after your vibrator broke." This. THIS. Explains perfectly why I can't stand Wanda. What a horrible character. I really hope she stays dead.
Just watch her immediately be forgive in the next project she shows up in with everyone making no comment or a passing comment to the things she's done only for it to be instantly pushed aside so the plot can happen.
@jungwoozi that's dumb, an actor is not literally the character they play . Right black panther 😑 I still can't understand why people thought it'd be a better decision to kill the black panther rather than carry on his legacy by recasting the man. They do understand Chadwick wasn't literally the literal black panther? Imagine if we killed off Batman for good after Adam west past on.
@Normad Garmez True, SO TRUE. Marvel did Wanda bad. I hate how people blame Marvel for butchering Thor and Dr. Strange but blame Wanda for her own character as if she broke the 4th wall. Marvel just flipped her character 180° making her go from a sympathetic and caring person to a maniacal monster.... JUST to introduce America Chavez. That's what Marvel is doing these days. Destroying their good products to sell their below mediocre sheet.
lol. It is painful because I defended the MCU from Scorsese's comments, but everything they immediately went on to do in No Way Home, and MOM proved him right. Francis Coppola said of No Way Home: _It's a prototype for one movie made over and over and over..._
Sinister Strange would have worked better if his Christine had died, and in his grief he tried to use the Darkhold to find a way to bring her back and in doing so and failing, he began consuming other Stranges through Dreamwalking in an attempt increase his power to the point that he could bring Christine back. This would tie in better with the idea that Strange has an obsession with control as well as how much he cares for Christine, as in a world where he was powerless to stop her death he became consumed by his own need for control that he became a monster. In fact, instead of Strange killing Sinister Strange, he could trick him into attempting to seize Amerika from Wanda having these two monsters face off against each other while Wong rescues Chavez and then uses her power to banish Wanda and Necro(Sinister) Strange into the collapsing universe together and bring out Strange and Christine.
Dr. Strange: "Wanda has the power to summon demons across the multiverse." also Dr. Strange: *Casually summons a demonic cat head and alien snake monsters.
@Summer Tyme I think it's just because they are so overwhelmed. The creators probably literally had no time to stop and check over there work for these kinds of things because the second they got done they had to start on the next dozen projects.
@LittleCaeser it's actually amazing considering it took him ONLY a few months to write down a very thorough review of a film, edit it and upload it at the Length of ALMOST 6 HOURS! Even if people don't like him, they should never insult his video lengths. It's shallow and offensive to just act like it's "only long." It's NOT.
Ok so there are infinite universe in the multiverse including the ones where you've died already. Couldn't Wanda visit a universe where her other self is dead and adopt the now motherless children? Maybe one where Vision and her brother are still alive and this have her whole family back? Hell, infinite universes also means there is one where her PARENTS are still alive as well. Couldn't she have done that instead?
I can't get over the fact that Scarlets motivation, is a need to find a reality where she gets her cheeks clapped by a robot in order to create artificial children, and that can apparently to compell her to rage war with the multiverse itself. Craziest stuff I've ever heard lol
@LadyDoomsinger Yes, the issue is how her madness was written. There are a few problems, one is that she has used spells in her most recent outing (WandaVision) that would have fixed a lot of the issues she is having, and she admits that the kids she fell in love with were constructs she created. Which means she can just recreate them in a hex, one that she voluntarily makes instead. In WandaVision, she creates a slowly expanding bubble around a town in the US that warps reality, as is her power. She created this hex accidently from the anguish of her losing Vision, with the general idea of it being that she was in hardcore denial of what she was doing to the citizens of the US that got brainwashed by her hex. Even in this movie, we see her inside a hex she created when we first see her, after the dreaming sequence. This means she can alter reality within it, such as recreating the kids she made in WandaVision that she originally fell in love with. All of this is ignoring the fact that the kids were created as a byproduct of her living a happy life with Vision, and the movie just ignores the core and main reason any of this is happening in the first place. Another issue is the nature of infinity that the movie doesn't seem to understand. If the writers, and by extension the movie, understood infinity, then Wong or Dr Strange would have asked Wanda about the universe she's going to. Her ultimate goal is to go to a world where her kids are real, and she can go and take the place of the kids' mother. She doesn't go looking for a world where Vision is alive and well, the kids are there, and her parents and brother didn't die as collateral in previous movies, but instead she just goes for the kids she incidentally made the first time. Another thing that Wanda never clarifies is how she would take the place of the Wanda in the other universe. She gets asked directly how she's going to do it, but she doesn't answer. She just stands quietly with a slightly distressed look on her face. You could take from that shot that she is willing, but doesn't want, to kill a version of herself to get to that version of her kids. Of course, this all just goes against the idea of infinity again. She can just go to a world where that universe's Wanda died, leaving her kids with no parents. Then the villain Wanda that we know from this movie would jump in and take the place of the now dead Wanda. And thanks to us dealing with infinity, she can just go to a version of her kids who are so desperate and alone that they would be willing to immediately accept the villain Wanda. That example doesn't need to go exactly like I said, but the thing about infinite multiverses is that the universe I used as an example would exist, and there would be an infinite number of tiny permutations to that specific example. There's a bunch more reasons, but these are the two that I think are the biggest. This is already quite a wall of text, so I'll try stop now and just reiterate: her going crazy isn't an issue, it's how she went mad and all of the tools and abilities she has at her disposal to get her what she wants before she went mad, and the people around her that are trying to stop don't bring any of these other options up after she went mad.
I don't think her being crazy is the problem - a character loosing their mind and doing horrible stuff in the belief that it is their only option - or best option isn't a bad direction for an antagonist - if done right, it can even be incredibly tragic and emotional to watch the character slowly descend into complete psychopathy because of their choices, fears, and misunderstandings (see Arcane, for example) - I haven't watched the movie, so I can only speculate, that the issue with Wanda comes down to *how* her madness was written, not the concept of her going mad.
@Summer Tyme Right?? In fact, the hex she used at the beginning of the film could have been used to bring back her children, but we get none of that. We don’t even get Vision, or WhiteVision, at that.
When she "alters reality at will" (per Wong), and so can simply bring the children back by altering reality herself, and not hunt and murder rampage for them in alternate realities. Helloooo, Raimi, Waldron, Feige, anybody home???
Every single time I hear her name - America - I honestly can't help but giggle inside. It's like some sort of bad joke, the way it turns every statement into a hilarious overly-patriotic double entendre: "He had to go back to save America" "She was trying to drain America's powers" "America is here to save the day!"
Coming back to this video again after 6 months and I still can't believe America never tried to master her powers to try and find her parents after she threw them across the multiverse accidentally, that would at least make Wanda hunting her seem a little more likely
It's funny because they really tried to give America Chavez (I still can't believe that's her fucking name) this sympathetic back story but in reality, everything about the way she's written makes her unlikable and non-relatable. One of the very first scenes she has with Doctor Strange has her insulting him to his face in a foreign language (not long after he saves her life and buys her a meal, no less)... What part of that interaction was supposed to make me like this girl??
No effort is made or thought is given to intelligently and productively harness her powers by anyone, including all the Dr. Strange's that she knew across the multiverse. Then it turns out to be ridiculously easy to do, once the film needs her to get them back to their originating Universe. _Believe in yourself._ 🤣 What is the 1/2 hour over for this weeks shit-com episode? The worst part for me though is that Wanda could just ask America "help me find my children" - but the writer cheats with bullshit dialogue meant to persuade you that what Wanda wants means Chavez must die. Cuz....uhm. The best thing about this film and Quantum Mania is that they are failing so hard that MCU may have no choice but to change direction.
I love how the members of the Alt-Avengers include two of the smartest people in the whole world and they are literally standing there being like "OK, 4 of you go and defeat her. I'll stay here for no reason instead of helping you by stopping her for a long enough time for you to beat her up. Also, don't forget to tell her what's your powers are and how she can defeat you. Great plan"
@LadyDoomsinger I also went between "they were written dumb" and "They were written BY the dumb." I lean towards option 2 as a consequence of the rest of the movie.
@LadyDoomsinger Not out of fear and ignorance but because he destroyed an entire or possibly multiple universe(s) to save theirs and he was corrupted by the darkhold. And they can't be that dumb. They won't even win any battle if they told everyone what they could do.
I haven't watched the movie, so I don't know this; but, weren't the "Alt-Avengers" supposed to be incompetent, arrogant, and basically steamrolled by Wanda? Wasn't that how they were written, specifically as a punchline? I mean, based on what MauLer says here, they seem to serve as secondary antagonists in the story, being an obstacle for Dr. Strange to overcome. They literally murdered their universe's Dr. Strange out of fear and ignorance, and spent the entire scene before talking to Dr. Strange about how they're so amazingly powerful, morally righteous, and more than a match for Scarlet Witch. I dunno, just seems to me like they were deliberately written to be dumb - but I suppose no character can ever really be smarter than the person writing them, so it might just have been accidental.
The problem I have with Doctor Strange is that it's very hard to be compelled by a hero with immeasurable powers, powers with no real rules or boundaries which the writers really respect. We literally see the protagonist anatomically deconstruct an entire bus with a wave of his hand, and turn water into wine ten minutes into the film. It's hard to then feel worry for the safety of said protagonist in any action scenes of the film, especially against something with no other recognisable power other than being a big flying invisible octopus.
@Klespyrian heck, I read a LN where MC is OP as heck, but he gets transferred to 500 years later and a month in he witnessed the end of one of his most cherished subordinates without being able to do anything... and it was absolutely brilliantly portrayed. We meet the person for 50-60 pages and I still shed a few tears at the end.
I completely disagree with your premise. An overpowered character can be presented challenges outside of combat. Such as being unable to save people or something well beyond their own range. (Such as not being able to actually get to a villain destroying everything you love, people dying of something your power doesn't cover, your power corrupting your own perceptions and morality over time, or world altering events that one man can't stop - such as wars, plagues, etc.) Overpowered characters can 100% be done in a compelling way, these writers just have no idea how to do it.
@The Scarlet Slayer ofcourse. I was just mentioning someone who is very op from early on. You can even a lot more character development in someone like Ainz who is super OP from the beginning who is constantly on his guard as he pretends to be a genius ruler in front of others while being a tired salaryman inside in overlord. Strong characters CAN have such moments no matter who!
@Lord OZ the few times he appears are in discord calls. I believe his pfp is a blue wolf. It’s been a month since I last watched this video so I don’t remember much
I think my favorite bad thing about the movie is how shit just compounds. First scene I look at this new character, who does LITERALLY nothing. They're chased, she's not hiding, she's not giving advice or meaningful observations, she literally just stands there and looks at things. So, due to that stupid standing around, I started paying more attention to her as a character and then you notice the somewhat blatant message. She's named "America", uses some Spanglish for like 1 minute of a 2 hour movie, has some lgbt flag and two mothers, just for the sake of it. None of these factors are followed up on or deepened or made natural; she's essentially just carrying big signs of "look at this" with nothing to back it up. What made that even worse, is the other multiverse movie. Where you also have a gay character, but she's an actual human. She has emotions and the relationship is just real. Her partner isn't thrown into one scene to garner sympathy points from a demographic. Fuck, that girlfriend isn't even an integral character in the movie, she barely has any lines and STILL that relationship seems more fitting and real than the "look, two moms, guys AND she has the flag on her stuff? PRAISE ME" shtick the marvel movie pulls. The whole movie has this segmented feel where you as a viewer literally look through all the effects and can practically see the screenplay. "She stands there, because she has to be in danger in a minute. Steals the ring so they can film in a non-destroyed area and include some gimme a photo extra. Superheroes stand around and watch each other get slaughtered, until it's their turn to go in." And it all gets bogged down with two concepts that are so fantastical, it's hard enough to have one make coherent sense. But trying to combine "magic" and "multiverses", while also trying to cinematize the two subjects? Just showing off magic, because it looks cool? It's two fucking concepts that aren't explained or even explainable in the first place all strung together with a story that is so incredibly weak and full of holes, that no one can actually be invested in this. It's got some great visuals and soundtrack. Shit, I even liked some of the stuff that was criticized pretty harshly here: The little joke regarding Black Bolt's name seemed like a fitting quip in the moment. Akin to adapting "it's a-me, Mario" into anything else, just a harmless bit of fun. But the story just ruins it all.
_Superheroes stand around and watch each other get slaughtered, until it's their turn to go in."_ Who does not regard this as one of *the worst scenes* in Marvel history. It was literally like watching an emotionally warped child dismembering and decapitating his dolls, - er - I mean.....action figures.
_What made that even worse, is the other multiverse movie._ The Russo's co produced the Daniels Everything Everywhere All But Once. It's a masterpiece and make no mistake Feige is aware that this is the film that did everything MCU wanted to do with the multiverse. Will be interesting to see what his next move is. Rumor is he is bringing back Scott Derrickson. That's a start.
_She's named "America", uses some Spanglish for like 1 minute of a 2 hour movie, has some lgbt flag and two mothers, just for the sake of it. None of these factors are followed up on or deepened or made natural;_ That's called virtual signaling. James Cameron has made 5 billion dollars off of this, using CG versions of American, Polynesian and African indigenous peoples - to play *Get Out* with them, where white people can turn them into "avatars". The lack of any deeper meaning or genuine respect is key because it makes the insincere 'message' non threatening. Disagree? Look at how she is motivated to find her "MOMs" until at the end of the film she magically gets the power to do so......and completely forgets about them, as do we...because the film and the audience doesn't really give a shix.
_They're chased, she's not hiding, she's not giving advice or meaningful observations, she literally just stands there and looks at things._ It's called Save Me Girl. Horror movie and super hero trope. Then there is the geek (or monster or freak), that's Wanda. And there's the gawker, the person who watches the special effects happen. (that's Strange in this film) It could be Dinosaurs, or fake CG Whales, or watching your own body horror, like your arm turn into chainsaw (evil dead) or you are possessed by ghosts and zombies and have multiple arms, or get a 3rd eye in the middle of your head) like Strange.
@RanMouri82 That’s not “earlier failings”, that’s character consistency. Her growth was mostly linked to other people, she never really seemed to express wanting to be a hero just because she thought it was the right thing to do. She just ended up working with the good guys, and her relationship with Vision brought out her better side. By this point she’s lost her country, her brother, Vision, Cpt America, Black Widow, and saving the world didn’t really give her much of anything. She didn’t fight Thanos to save the world, she fought him because he was coming for Vision and eventually killed him. It’s no wonder her previous vices were cranked up to 11 when she met a Devil-like entity, powering her up and promising her things.
@Darkstar No, when she confronted the reality of the situation I mean, that’s pretty much where she realized she was too far gone and was a monster for what she did.
The line "Have you ever had that dream where your falling as if you've been pushed off a really tall building? That was probably me" never made sense to me. Because Sinister Strange can't portal to other universes, he has to use the Darkhold to dreamwalk. Which means that he can only possess the body of another Strange. So to kill that Strange, he can't be "pushed off from a really tall building", but more "walk off a really tall building". But no, the writers sacrificed that little detail just to make the incel bad guy just a little more edgy.
I suppose you could consider the mind prison thing we see with 838-Wanda when Xavier tries to free her. You're not in control of your body, so you're a passenger the whole while. It's a clunky line when you think about it.
They could change the tentacruel cyclops boss fight pretty easily: it’s the first act, so there’s no tension needed. Strange could see America, suspect her because the monster is chasing her. He calls wong so he can chase her for questioning. Strange then uses the anti invisibility spell and traps the monster in the mirror dimension and defeats it with expertise, showing why he’s the best saucerer. He meets up with wong, who has America and the movie continues as normal
Show writers should play more DnD (or other similar tabletops). In those games, players will bend over backward to exploit plot loopholes or use unexpected logic to overcome obstacles. The more exposure they have to this kind of stuff, the better they'd be able to combat it in their own writing.
Only about 40mins into the much needed savage burn, but thanks Mauler for this: "You ate the entire crayon factory didn't you?" Haven't laughed this hard in ages. 👌
I will never get over the fact Vision gets completely forgotten in this. The entire point of WandaVision was Wanda lost Vision and this is the life she wanted them to have. The children were a byproduct of that. They were never the entire point and she knew they weren't real even though both of them loved them dearly. The fact that there isn't a scene where Paul Bettany walks into the house she's terrorizing and Wanda has the realization that "I completely forgot about my husband, the ENTIRE reason I did all of this in the first place" is poor writing at best and character erasure at worst.
@Nexus8846 Productions Don't you DARE entertain the idea that the MCU is Earth 616. It ISN'T. They made it clear in the beginning it isn't. Hence why it's called Marvel CINEMATIC Universe. If MCU is 616, then why didn't Henry Pymm create Ultron instead of Stark? Why didn't Cap die in Civil War?
This movie is a tacky, haphazard fan fiction of Carrie. And your review is like the best film I've seen in a decade, thank you for everything, I can't imagine the amount of work and genius it takes to create something like this ... ♡
o0oh dang! I just watched the X-Men essay within the essay segment. Beautifuuul. Except that I feel hurt you would deem X3 the worst installment of all time, when the harrowing memories of Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix hauntingly loom over us all, forever. Famke alone is reason enough to give it at least a star or two.
"Blackbolt can destroy you with one whisper from his mouth." is the dumbest line ever. Where else does a whisper come from? Why tell her his power? Whyyyyy
So much is dumb. Strange: _Come with me to Kamar Taj and meet the girl_ Wanda: _Sure! I can't believe my luck!_ 🤣 Nope actually.... she says the girl's name and asks for Strange to bring the girl to her. lol. Thus giving herself away and allowing the movie to happen. Cartoon Network writing from the Rick and Morty Gang.
The worst part about the sling-ring kerfuffle is that it's so easy to fix without any losses. If they just buried Defender Strange at Kamal-Taj (I don't know the spelling) instead of some random rooftop, he could just get a sling there, and you'd still have the brick burial and rebirth scenes, and Strange would see the torture scene aftermath all in one simple move.
so you're telling me an 8 year old girl was more "unsettled" by a bee landing on her than she would have been as a baby and say.... dealing with fart pains or teething. i feel like, if she had this little control and there wasn't a time in her life where she didn't have the powers... there's no way that portals weren't popping off left, right, and centre throughout her entire childhood.
i hope you continue the unbridled series, i swear these videos are like therapy for me lol your silky smooth voice while pointing out plot holes is my favorite thing to listen to on long drives
The most impressive thing about this video is MauLer’s ability to consistently come up with a new, absurdly hilarious alternative name to ‘Benedict Cumberbatch’ for nearly 6 hours straight.
@Shark Fact Storage *Hedgeheg. But yes, I agree. He turned himself into 'Burburburbur Cerberberber'. Edgiest shit I've ever seen(sarcasm and RaM reference in one. What do I win?)
Remember: Dr Strange has a photographic memory. Every version of him that has read the darkhold can transcribe it if they want to. The Dr Strange in the main mcu timeline still has it in his memory and could totally rewrite it
The only way I could describe what's wrong with the darkhold being destroyed through the stabbing of a knife is through an analogy. Could you imagine if, in Lord of the Rings, the one ring was actually destroyed by Gimli smashing it with his axe? Now imagine that but with a book instead.
The books are ridiculously overpowered *and* ridiculously easy to destroy. Again - the writers (!!!) ....they have no business writing sci fi or fantasy. *Stick to cartoon network* where the audience is kids who are high on sugar.
What's dumb is that Wanda's motive was done much better with Kingpin from Into The Spiderverse. Yes, we can sympathize, but we know that he is not justified in his actions, and really, his plan is the only way he can get his family back. This movie tries to redeem Wanda at the end, and she had so many other options. Like make a small Hex around you at all times so you could have your kids!
My head-canon is that the hex is powered by people living in its borders. It won't function with only Wanda - that's why one of the mothers begs Wanda to let them die (apparently being involuntarily a power source for hex is a fate worse than death).
Waldrons writing is incredibly shallow, more like a boy writing than an adult. He misses completely the deeper issues of the nature of love and loss and having to let go. The problem is that Wanda’s character grew emotionally in Wanda Vision. She let the children go by choice. You can’t just erase that, and use a plot McGuffin as an excuse to override her character growth. That amounts to shitting on the previous chapters of the story. Yet he needed to ERASE that growth in order to make her a cartoon witch.
Now call me crazy, but I was always under the impression that Wanda was just a telepath. Like, I thought she was experimented on alongside her brother, right? An from what I remember, her powers were limited to lifting people and objects, reading and controlling minds, and sensing people. id I miss something? When did Wanda's powers becomes purely magical rather than just being a powerful telepath?
And this is why I was afraid of them letting her use magic instead of just letting her be a psychic. It’s already been thoroughly explained in this video why that decision shot the powerscaling to shit
The mind-reading loophole pisses me off more than any other because it’s such an integral part of Xavier’s powers. Imagine Aquaman being threatened with drowning.
It's been said before that the worse a writer is, the more you can see the intent behind their work. I call it "seeing the uncreative process through the plot holes." Given established power levels, there is no in-universe rain for Wanda to be able to so easily eviscerate the Illumiwhati. That she does isn't just a plot hole, it is a universe-destroying black hole. The only explanation it's ameta one; Michael Waldren, that that disgusting, obsequiously gynocentric fraud, his favorite Marvel character is Scarlett Witch, and so (among other things), devised scenarios of her all but effortlessly murdering without consequence, no matter how impossible, just to make her look cool. It's the exact same reason Hack Snyder had Superman(?) beat the snot out of all the other heroes in Justice League; Superman is obviously his favorite DC superhero, and so he devised a a situation to facilitate that fight, no matter how nonsensical and contrived it was/is. These are our modern myths and legends, and they're in the hands of maligned, maladroit children, smacking them together like stolen toys.
@Generic Username as someone who never read the comics and whose only knowledge of the sound guy is from this movie, I'm severely disappointed. I was actually interested in their power. What a waste.
@Adorni Bold of you to assume they studied any of the source material regarding his character rather than having one member of the writing team read his wikipedia page and then wing it from there.
Nothing ever guaranteed that Wanda seeing her scared and traumatized children herself wouldn’t just make matters worse. There was never any indication that she wouldn’t go Tai Lung and just wreck everything the minute her sole objective and whole reason for existing in this film failed right before her eyes. She could’ve easily swung the other way and become extremely vengeful to a ridiculous extent out of pure spite. Guess the writers got lucky that didn’t happen.
25:16 not to mention, if she’s only met two Dr. Stranges; by this movies logic, she shouldn’t have known about the sling ring in the first place considering the “ice Dr. Strange” didn’t utilize one on screen even once
6 hours and I’m still rewinding parts to laugh. This entire 6 hours was more entertaining than any 30 min show I’ve seen in years. Thanks bro. That had to be bitch to put together.
The fact that all 5 super heroes that make up “The Illuminati” all stand there and take turns watching Wanda kill their close friends is probably one of the most idiotic scenes I’ve ever seen.
Add to that, that Wanda kills both men immediately and effortlessly, and the women are able to stand toe to toe with her for a much longer period of time. It's almost as if they are trying to say something with subtext there... MauLer: "You go girl."
An excellent and nuanced review of an irredeemably flawed film that genuinely wounded what little affection I had left for Marvel and Disney. Disaffection is now the rule. Lastly, I recognize these longer reviews demand a great deal of analysis, preparation, and editing. So, I thank you for the time you've invested and look eagerly to future reviews, good and bad, of upcoming films. As a postscript: maybe all those spirits that first attacked Dr. Strange were the collective Ghosts of Good Film Scripts Past trying to prevent another frame of this film from proceeding. Clearly, they failed.
1:41:00 ignoring all the plot holes and nonsense in this movie, why didn't the Scarlet Witch summon an army of monsters or demons like THESE to attack the sorcerers at the fortress earlier? It would have been cool to see an actual battle, and since spectacle is the only thing this movie has going for it then I don't see why we couldn't have had the nameless sorcerers fighting some monsters while the main characters try to hold off Wanda. Would've been cool.
Wouldn't them saying The Book Of Ashanti helped them defeat Thanos be a massive plot hole since in Infinity War Dr Strange said that there was only 1 instance where they win and that was Tony sacrificing himself?
Sadly that is one of the very few plot points in this trainwreck that isn't a plothole... It's worse. Because the movie gives us an explanation, and its insanely bad. You see. There was no way for MCU main universe Dr Strange to see a future where they use the Book of Vishanti... Because he didn't believe the book existed. And since he, as the Sorcerer Supreme, was the only person that COULD know about the book. There is no possible future where they used it. So its not a plothole, since there IS a reason. But the reason is that Dr Strange, a man so obsessed with reading he literally does it while he sleeps, while using the time stone, which gives him literally as much time as he could possibly need for said reading... Didn't think to read the ONE, SINGULAR, HYPER-IMPORTANT book that is passed on as a badge of office when you become sorcerer supreme. Literally, the only reason they didn't Thanos Snap Thanos, is because Strange was too moronic to read the most impirtant book he could have possibly been given.
Vishanti, but Yes. It is *exactly* that. This film destroys the character arcs Wanda, Strange, Wong, Mordo, Thanos, the Ancient One, and Tony all in one fell swoop.
The thing about the memory store is that, it isnt necessarily a terrible idea, IF you have the characters lead into it with dialogue. For example, Strange and America are walking, they shouldnt be but whatever, and Strange asks America how she ended up spiralling through the multiverse. America is initially a bit shy to the idea, but then she sees the memory store, and grabs a couple dollars out of a passerby's wallet. Strange scolds her, but she explains that she needs it for an important reason. She goes into the store with Strange following her in and pays the money for a few "tokens" on a machine, and selects a memory to replay, that being the one where she looses her parents, and asks Strange to step into one of the booths. He does, and then Strange, and by extension the audience, is seeing the memory from a young America's perspective. In this version, the thing that triggers her portal is one of the monsters Wanda sent after her. The memory fades out, and now Strange understands what happened. If you feel like keeping this element in, this first person experience of the memory could give Strange the idea that he could use her power, because he can pinpoint the sensation of triggering it as something similar to his sorcerey. After this, Strange apologizes. If you really need to show the scene where Strange recieves the watch from Christine, use the following. Else, end scene. Strange asks America why she hasn't settled down to try and figure out how to use her power. America says that every second she isnt looking for her moms is a second they may be in danger. She'd rather jump randomly and chance finding them than waste maybe years trying to figure out how to use it. Strange points out that this is irrational, as learning how to control it could allow her to just jump to them immediately instead of just hoping she ends up there. America retorts that loving somebody makes you do irrational things. Strange pauses and looks down at his watch, thinking about Christine. The machine dings, as it has cued up another memory. Strange notices and tries to leave, but America notices and asks what memory he cued up, and he awkwardly says its nothing. America then notices that the time on the broken watch is the same as the time on the memory. She links the two, and runs into the booth. We then see the memory from Strange's perspective, where he has dropped the nice new watch, and is apologizing over and over to Christine. Christine just laughs, and says it's fine. He already has a cell phone that shows the time, its not like she was giving it to him for a practical purpose. She just thought it would make a nice accessory, and being broken like this helps it stand out. Strange thanks her for the gift, and the memory fades out.
My favorite part is the team racing to close a safety door to stop the all powerful witch who can teleport. And then stopping running to stare at the door that will definitely stop that witch who had just busted through the entire building. And then racing through multiple of these doors, closing each of them as she breaks through them with ease. Oh, and the fact that the terrifying witch doesn't just...teleport to the end of the straight line the characters were running through. I actually laughed at how unbelievably stupid that was
i just noticed something, isnt it convientent that the portal america opens to escape the spaghetti monster leads to the exact universe with scarlet witch, considering how there is only one scarlet witch
i've seen the movie once. i remember enjoying it but feeling a lot of "wait a minutes" in the back of my head. this is an incredibly convincing argument as well as vindication of said "wait a minutes"
Don't you know Mauler, spells go on a cooldown after he uses them to keep you from spamming. Especially a crowd control move like locking something down for like 10 seconds. That's like a 10 minute wait to be able to do that shit again
I still can’t believe they had the line “just let us die” in a marvel show. They really can’t decide on being serious with emotions or just wanting to have a goofy time where nothing matters. Pick one!
Just found your channel, I promised myself I'd never watch a 5hr video but your others are so on point.. surveying and working mostly alone all day this is awesome. Thank you for your service.
Wasn't it originally intended for Nightmare to be the main villain. The whole first bits with the monsters are so hilariously stretched to be under Wanda, that seems like a huge section along with all the dreamwalking/dreams being different universes that they stamped Wanda on to for no reason but not out of character for someone like Nightmare. Might also be the lack of a multiversal exploration as that too is probably a repackage of the dream universes. I'm curious to how much of the movie is actually a reskinned plot of what they advertised ages ago and how much of that was done before they canned that idea.
The original idea was Scott Derrickson's. He wrote the 1st Dr. Strange film which was quite good. He was fired because among other things he wanted to make a real horror film - like possibly even R rated. So we get Raimi's scooby do horror instead.
Age of Ultron Hawkeye gave a speech to her and her brother from there they could have built a side movie explaining their relationship and why he was able to talk to Wanda
@Knightmare Edits well it's pretty obvious. Thor is a toxic male and women need their time in the spotlight, and women are superior to men on-screen both physically and mentally. Scarlett can take over a whole town and no one brings it up again. That's woke culture for you. Women can do no wrong in marvel it seems.
@Knightmare Edits and the best part is we are meant to sympathize with her understand where she is coming from. The line "when you break the rules your regarded a hero when I do it I'm evil" literally destroyed my brain cells. She is a crazy lunatic who tortured and terrorized a town then goes on a multiversal killing spree for some FAKE freaking kids. While the old doctor Strange saved half the universe. Yeah very different and doesn't make me feel sorry for her just makes he hate her the movie the writters and everyone in charge who collectively agreed that was going in the movie.
These fights would make a lot more sense if Strange didn't have control over his magic, if every spell had a random effect that he didn't know in advance.
Word is they are bringing back Scott Derrickson. He knew exactly how to handle the mystic arts. He hardly even used the world "magic", as that essentially implies fairy tales for kids and wishes and as Tony Stark once mocked Strange - balloon shows for kids.
This comment is gonna be rather long but I wanna add something in regards to the the incredibly convenient powers that these characters show and how incredibly bad they are at using them, but the one I´d like to talk about is the teleportation rings and how, in the right hands, it could easily be the most powerful skill in the entire movie. For this, I´ll compare it to two other series, Mob psycho 100 season 2 and jujutsu kaisen, because both of these manage to make their respective versions of this power an absolute menace even though, in concept, they are miles behind in terms of power and usage from the version shown in this movie. From this point onward, there will be minor spoilers regarding these shows (both are really good, so for anyone reading this, go check them out, even if you´re not an anime fan), but these will only talk about the powers and some specific uses shown in the series, no names nor any spoiler for the plot. Alright, starting with Mob psycho 100, one of the villains has the more traditional ability of teleporting himself and anything and anyone in direct contact with him. Seems simple enough, but the way It´s used and shown definitely puts into perspective just how dangerous it is, because the teleportation is instantaneous, with esentially no way to tell where he´ll appear or what he will do once he teleports. The only real weakness it shows is from the user itself, because his movements are simplistic and, once you see the pattern, predictable. The technique is in no way invincible, but powerful regardless (the comparision to the movie will come after the technique review of jujutsu kaisen). Now moving on to the second show we have Jujutsu kaisen, where there are a lot rules in the universe, but all we need to know is that the technique in this case is triggered by clapping the user´s hands. This allows him to change places with anything and anyone as long as they have "cursed energy" (to make it simple to understand, it´s basically chakra from naruto or ki from dragon ball). But the skill doesn´t end there, he can force two other individuals to change place as well. It´s certainly more complicated than the other version, but nothing too complicated, which is why it is so powerful due to one simple fact, clapping his hands doesn´t mean he is going to activate his technique, so he can easily fool his opponents, not only that, there is no indication as to who or what will change place, so the mind games that can come from that allows the user to have full control over the battlefield, and again, the technique is far from all mighty. If the user is an idiot and does the same thing all the time, it will also become predictable, so it´s all in the intelligence of the character using it. Now let´s see what the teleportation rings can do in the movie, they can; teleport the user to any place of their choosing regardless of distance and only limited to any previous knowledge the user has; teleport anyone and anything completely against their will, again, distance or energy is not a factor here; change size to accomodate the object being teleported; change the trajectory and momentum of whatever it´s passing through the portal; they can also be interlinked with any other portal created by the user. At this point it is almost undeniable that this degree of power is light years away from what we´ve seen thus far, there are no requirements that anyone with access to these thing would not have, there is no need for the character to sense some sort of energy or to be stronger than the threath they are facing in order to teleport them, and due to the ability to change size combined with the other power of change in momentum and trajectory, there is basically no way to tell what the hell is gonna come out of the portal, it could be a truck, but that could be a trick to hide the little portal that has a bullet, and there goes your head. But that´s not all they can do, because their other ability is infinitely more destructive than anything else here, and that is the ability to cut anything that comes through the portal. Imagine if any of the other versions had something even remotely close to this, they would be damn near invinsible, because no matter what the enemy does, all they´d need to do is to create a portal in front of the opponent, create one below them, beside them, wherever, and chop off anything that comes close to them, they could use them offensively, defensively, as support, whatever. The point is, if you have two sorcerers with this level of power, then wanda should stand no chance against them, one of them could teleport america to any place of the planet, hell the universe, the other one could set up an infinite number of portal traps, or both of them could use their powers, and with two highly intelligent and wise portal users, constantly playing mind tricks and using every other weapon in their arsennal, the main threath should not be able to even react to what´s happening. So yeah, this is what happens when you want to do something cool looking but don´t bother thinking about all the possible ramifications and plot holes that their decisions could bring, and this is only scratching the surface of all the stupid choices regarding magic and powers in this movie.
5:20:40 That moment right there should've been used as an opportunity to craft a script DURING the pandemic shutdown. This man is the definition of doing a college paper in the last hour.
I put this video on way too often to fall asleep to, and my alarm goes off before it's even over. Great work, as always. Really love these exhaustive breakdowns. EFAP proves that the product could be improved if the people making it took the time to actually watch it, but they don't.
So, wait. The writers use the moral ambiguity defense on Wanda's murderous, premeditated actions because...well, she's grieving so it's "relatable." But when any of the Dr. Stranges do something morally ambiguous (or break some arbitrary rule set long ago) for the sake of trying to save multiple realities - often requiring a split second decision with attacks bombarding them - it's treated like they are reprehensible for even considering it.
If you find it annoying here I wouldn't recommend seeing what the X-Men are up to in the comics. Watching what they get up to and how the creators and fans seem to think it's all justified has made me realize many of my fellow alleged progressives don't actually understand their own supposed beliefs.
Bonus points for the last "decision" of using the darkhold to dreamwalk into dead Strange. That's not his choice to make, it's litteraly the ONLY option that has a chance of working to save the multiverse...and Christine is there like "Ur cringe" Do you have a better idea Christine? What magical spells do you know that will save the day? Exactly, now shut up and help the man ffs!
When you were talking about Wanda at the end; I really would've rather them made Wanda kill the kids, or abandon that reality to oblivion, since YEAH, she CAN just replace those kids. They ARE as important to her as any other set would be
Great breakdown. The only thing I can say is they did a crap job of explaining America Chavez's power and origin, which got reconned in the comics anyway. She's from outside the multiverse which is why she is 1 of 1. Her parents are too, so they can't cause a universe to destroy itself. She's also super strong, which is why she can break the cage. Whether that stems from magic or not is interesting if you think the braces should stop it, but they make it sound like her strength (and ability to fly) just come from her and is separate from her portal magic.
@Sine Nomine while I don't agree with your message I see how you can back up your opinion in some of the films you stated but theres some I disagree with. Shang Chi gave up fighting for possibly longer than he had been trained while his sister went on to run a criminal under ground all the while honing her skills and HE still ends up saving her and their mothers homeland. Falcon and Winter Solider didn't make them idiots to me. They seemed to have fairly understandable thought processes and defined character motivations for where they are in the MCU Do I think it became a little preachy and on the nose sure, but the red headed criminal still looses and isn't treated any more or less fair based on her gender. Hawkeye is definitely where I see your statement about it is unfounded. Clint has potentially more character resolution in his show than Kate Bishop has. He comes to terms with his close friends death and the guilt surrounding it while also ridding the world of the Ronin, a vigilante so cruel and violent that crime dropped in ares he was in. A character, also, that he made mistakes as and the consequences of those mistakes played out across the series. Kate was involved in it but she went from annoying kid to trusted ally. This was not the Kate Bishop show. While phase 4 has agreeably been terrible and ham fisted in a multitude of ways. It's not at all the feminist demasculation psyops you feel victimized by.
@Sine Nomine all all of phase 4? Falcon and Bucky? No way home? Moon Knight? Werewolf by night? Lmaooooo yeah all of the men are gone even though they outnumber the women 4 to 1 still
There are so many good lines in this almost 6 hour video (I still can't believe it's this long). 😂 "Your life isn't even a joke, because jokes have meaning." OOF
Wanda: _I'm not a witch. I don't cast spells. No one taught me magic._ Dr, Strange: _I happen to know a witch who can tell us everything!_ Me: _No you don't. You only think this because your writer, being a dumb bastid, _*_didn't watch WandaVision._* Strange: _OH shix, that's right...welp...too late now!_ 🤣
While the old days of good Hollywood were fun, I'm not sure it would be worth having it back if it meant giving up the masterful reviews of Mauler, Critical Drinker, The Little Platoon, Disparu, Nerdrotic, AZ, etc. Who have I missed?
Just stumbled across this channel. There was so much wrong with this movie it stressed me out just thinking about it, and so I found this video very cathartic. Thanks 👍 Will subscribe.
That's a big problem with Marvel universes in general. If everyone is always in or around New York City they should be there to help but rarely are. It also doesn't make sense that each hero would have their own rogues gallery either. Why does Doctor Octopus always run into Spider-Man and never Daredevil or the Fantastic Four? DC gets around that by having the characters live and do their heroics in different (usually fictional) cities.
Blackbolt's mouth was facing Wanda when he squealed and since you could hear it it means she would die, so Reeds plan was actually genius the problem is his universe had just not yet experienced plot armor so there was no way he could account for it
@First in the comics he can communicate telepathically, and there is a tuning rod on the head of his outfit, witch just as in realife allows you to direct vibrations and sounds
@St Chef In the same way everyone with superhuman strength NEEDS to have a higher level of physical durability or their strength is unusable, mutants and inhumans of high calibre rarely if ever. Have no pre-existing or inherent immunity, heck even resistances to the destructice or negative aspects, of their own power. Otherwise he'd have killed himself the second he used his powers in any way. Black bolt was BORN with his powers, if he's not immune to that same power, he shouldn't have grown into adulthood and would be just dead since infancy.
In regards to the commentary made between Dr. Wiss AKA Dr. No one cares, losing a pet, be it a cat or a gold fish or what have you, it is just as hard as losing as losing a loved one. If that is all the chap had and he returned from being dust only to find that the only thing he loved and presumably loved him in return was gone, then yes its a rather somber moment. God bless Marvel and its empathy when making jokes out this situation
And even worse those beloved family members died expressly because he was dusted and thus failed to provide for them whilst presumably leaving them locked in a house with no opportunities for food or water. They died a slow, agonizing death all whilst probably feeling abandoned by the one constant in their life.
It was a perfect end to the Infinity Saga. Then Feige and Disney reasoned - let's keep going while we lose all the talent and see if that matters - The Russos, Marcus/McFeely/RDJ/Johanson/Evans....plus Gunn, Derrickson and now Boseman (RIP) all gone... Instead we have the Rick and Morty Universe - and oh look the audience actually notices that we are peeing in the kook-aid! How embarassing!
@Superbrainz Yes, and it is a very common disease throughout Hollywood. That supervillain of the Sorceress in "Suicide Squad" is another example of a godlike villain nerfed down at the end just so weak heroes can win.
@MrEmpireBuilder On Drinker's quantamania videos, someone was mentioning Kang's powers and it really seems like he should've sweeped as he had time powers, could create portals, could redirect energy and had energy beams that instantly vaporized the fodder but apparently were just a mere pushback to the ant family which is weird since scott in the first movie made darn sure to avoid getting hit by bullets and yellowjackets energy blasts in the first movie. Heck the first movie treated attacks in the first movie like artillery blasts to scott and he had to keep avoiding attacks that also vaporized his ants so why is ant man now tanking blasts and punches from a guy whose apparently a multiverse level threat. The cope from mcu fans for why kang didnt vaporize scott is insane.
That's the really tragic thing about all this. As a gamer, most of us know how power levels and tiers up properly. Like we know the minor magic that can be achieved vs major magics. And these... fucking. normie. writers.... have no idea how to write a proper hero or villain with powers that make sense. So then you have people with abilities that seem super strong... and then later on, you wonder why they don't use those powers all the time. And worse, they forget they have those abilities and now you're stuck nerfing them so the story can happen.
Even though this is close to 6 hours long, I love your critical analysis of movies. Your voice is easy on the ears and it sounds like the voice I'd probably hear on an audiobook I would listen to. I tried to listen to another youtube tell me in 3 hours why they hate The Lion King remake but it sounded like nails on a charlkboard or their balls hadn't dropped yet and I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of their review.
OOF! Yeah they really needed to set some rules for the powers of The Scarlet Witch AND for Doctor Strange's powers. The fact they didn't breaks this film in SO MANY ways. Jeezus... Oda does far better at writing Trafalgar Law's broken Room abilities in One Piece than A WHOLE TEAM did writing Wanda's and Strange's magic powers... Not to mention all the other stuff that's wrong with this movie! O.O Ugh....
Wait why does Strange keep trying to steal Americas powers in time sensitive situations when its clear that it takes a lit of time to actually do. Wanda spends several hours siphoning Americas power only to end up with exactly none of it.
...Wait, did you complete this GIANT constructive-Criticism-Video?? Wow, thats impressive and makes me wanna name-drop Madvocate, Hbomberguy, Jay Exci and Pop Culture Detective, IF it has to be about Movies. If not, i'd add "Some More News" to my watchlist.
Not just the Doctor Strange movie and the Loki show established about the multiverse travel, the Avenger infinity war and endgame too. Doctor Strange could look into many multiverse in a short amount of time, and they even created multiple timelines through time travel. But MOM completely scratches this
@Diego Gonzalez You seem like a swell guy to be around. Please deflect any mean words I say about you with a half-assed name-drop of a logical fallacy, as though any of your arguments hold weight themselves. You have to have something better to do with your life, man
I was not expecting to find the same Commenter two times in one day let alone two times in two hours. also great use of dark humour to make a good point.
I haven't seen any movie after Avengers 1. So I don't know a hell of a lot about the current state of the MCU. I still sat through the whole 6 hours of this video because it was so well made. Kudos, you are a genius.
Copyright may still come for this large lad, been fighting it non stop on this one... if so, you will simply see it pop up again days/weeks later, when they loosen the grip but hopefully it stays up. Thank you for your patience, I hope you enjoy this 6 hour adventure ;^)

It's seriously impressive how they managed to put so many plot holes in a single movie
@goldfishprime i went to see it with a friend who's a Marvel fan
@Samuel Zuzák So why did you watch this movie, part of the MEU. Or You watch videos of movies you don't watch...
@goldfishprime i have not seen Iron Man
All these movies have plot holes, it's only now you started looking at them.
Yeah I wanna watch that movie
Wtf this is amazing! Why didn’t we get this?????? MARVEL YOU FUMBLED HARD BRO
That sounds like it could have made a fantastic movie. Unfortunately the MCU is no longer being character-driven, it's mostly spectacle and empty representation now.
@Summer Tyme Exactly. Can't waste time developing the titular character! We gotta let the strong wahmen shine!
I'm seriously impressed how they introduce two legendary ever-being sources of an ultimate arcane power in one movie - and in the same movie destroyed them both. With a knife and with a spark.
@RanMouri82 Unbreakable at beginning of movie. Flimsy when it's time to go home. 🤣
Macguffins are either unbreakable or extremely flimsy.
It makes me think of the ultimate universe
Monty Python's Multiverse then?
The thing that really bugged me is Strange will do a mindwipe on the entire planet to fix Peter's mistake, but he won't sit down with Wanda for 10 minutes to look at options to bring the fictional kids into being for real. He and Wanda could just do that, no harm no foul.
@Summer Tyme Sure.
@Super Bodoque she’s way hotter than Midstine, sorry I mean Christine
y’all wanna watch a 2 hour movie of 2 people talking to figure out how to get someone’s kids back?
They could have just hooked up and had kids it's not like Wanda ISN'T hot, she's hotter than Christine
@Summer Tyme brilliantly said. They really did throw the baby out with the bathwater on this whole topic if you ask me.
If they had a Doctor Strange POV shot, it would show that he has like 300 spells on his HUD, but 90% of them go on cooldown for a month.
@Summer Tymedamn... that my friend is called a joke
I just assumed he had 1 spell called "Random"
Me: **Proceeds to use .001% of them to put down Wanda**
You know one of them, from the third house.
@Odin Satanas he rebound the hotkey to his favorite emote and didn’t change it back
It sucks but each spell getting a once-a-day use makes a lot more sense then him being dumb and also having one or more doctorate(s)
But....he can fly. And portal.
Dr Strange's Piss Jar Project
They needed to set parameters for the magic in the film. Maybe peeking into the lives of alternate selves could happen in dreams, but most people can't do it fully or something.
Honestly that line goes kinda hard. Wish it was in a better movie.
@The Scarlet Slayer they have zero character development, character responsibility and assessment these days so...yup.
Just watch her immediately be forgive in the next project she shows up in with everyone making no comment or a passing comment to the things she's done only for it to be instantly pushed aside so the plot can happen.
@jungwoozi that's dumb, an actor is not literally the character they play . Right black panther 😑
I still can't understand why people thought it'd be a better decision to kill the black panther rather than carry on his legacy by recasting the man.
3:04:10 the pained “martin Scorsese was right… we didn’t listen” made me laugh so hard I died inside
In other words: Yes, episode 4 of the Animated What If - was better.
Dr. Strange: "Wanda has the power to summon demons across the multiverse."
also Dr. Strange: *Casually summons a demonic cat head and alien snake monsters.
@Summer Tyme I think it's just because they are so overwhelmed. The creators probably literally had no time to stop and check over there work for these kinds of things because the second they got done they had to start on the next dozen projects.
@Summer Tyme as Ryan would say," yeah but that happened in an earlier scene meaning it doesn't matter anymore".
It's OK when I do it!
Me: Wait wha...
*Random BS shows up*
Me: Wait ho...
*More Random BS*
Me: Sto...
*A lot more BS shows up*
@Summer Tyme no no, you're just supposed to go "ohh so cool!" Or "haha, that's so funny lol" instead of analysing any of it for one millisecond.
"Her two remaining braincells are fighting for third place." Is such a good line. Well played.
@ZJReviews 41:05
This whole video is insanely well written
When Wanda said "I'm not a monster Steven, I'm a mother." I looked at my son and said "pretty much the same thing right?.
Its not his xd
Ok so there are infinite universe in the multiverse including the ones where you've died already.
Couldn't Wanda visit a universe where her other self is dead and adopt the now motherless children? Maybe one where Vision and her brother are still alive and this have her whole family back? Hell, infinite universes also means there is one where her PARENTS are still alive as well. Couldn't she have done that instead?
So essentially the new reality prime Rick and Morty went to after Rick ruined their world into kronenberg monsters.
Because movie
@dodo jesus Ya didn't read what I said, did ya?
No, no no we cannot have logic and common sense. You know better than to question the lords and ladies of tinseltown.
But,but, but she has to protect her children from a different dimension that actually exist but are not hers...for reasons.
So not only can American Chavez border hop as a power, she destroys the places she invades. Perfect, Disney. Just perfect.
Every single time I hear her name - America - I honestly can't help but giggle inside. It's like some sort of bad joke, the way it turns every statement into a hilarious overly-patriotic double entendre:
"He had to go back to save America"
"She was trying to drain America's powers"
"America is here to save the day!"
@Bobbie Dylan Everyone's ancestors really.
Like your ancestors 😉
Great plan"
@LadyDoomsinger I also went between "they were written dumb" and "They were written BY the dumb."
I lean towards option 2 as a consequence of the rest of the movie.
They are in the perpetual lead in tap water universe.
Reed really was like ' Black Bolt can wreck you, Wanda. Thanks for coming to my TEDTalk '
The fact that I was more ready to watch this almost-6-hour long analysis than the 2-hour movie itself...
Aw,yes.
The fact I've only seen this 2-hour movie once and this 6-hour movie analysis all the way through (in some way) 6 times itself...
Lol me too. Did not want to watch the movie at all but 6 hour MauLer? Cancel all my plans 😂
I'm glad I didn't watch the film that way this review wasn't spoiled for me.
But Mauler missed the most important question. Who puts mustard on pizza balls?
muh multiverse
Is the answer “Bruce Campbell”?😂
@Klespyrian like Saitama and how his strength is what tortures him now that he has nothing left to live for in his mind.
@Just a guy or someone like Batman who's managed to outsmart and battle gods
It was good to see Wolf laughing at the stupidity of dark Strange’s motivations. Hope he’s doing well
@Lord OZ the few times he appears are in discord calls. I believe his pfp is a blue wolf. It’s been a month since I last watched this video so I don’t remember much
Where does he show up?
2:55:00 Since he's the "Evil Strange" or even a "Bizarro Strange" if you will, I like to call him:
'Professor Peculiar'
Professor Chaos was already taken (By Butters).
Superheroes stand around and watch each other get slaughtered, until it's their turn to go in."
And it all gets bogged down with two concepts that are so fantastical, it's hard enough to have one make coherent sense.
_Superheroes stand around and watch each other get slaughtered, until it's their turn to go in."_
Who does not regard this as one of *the worst scenes* in Marvel history.
It was literally like watching an emotionally warped child dismembering and decapitating his dolls, - er - I mean.....action figures.
_What made that even worse, is the other multiverse movie._
The Russo's co produced the Daniels Everything Everywhere All But Once.
None of these factors are followed up on or deepened or made natural;_
That's called virtual signaling.
_They're chased, she's not hiding, she's not giving advice or meaningful observations, she literally just stands there and looks at things._
It's called Save Me Girl. Horror movie and super hero trope.
Then there is the geek (or monster or freak), that's Wanda.
And there's the gawker, the person who watches the special effects happen. (that's Strange in this film)
It could be Dinosaurs, or fake CG Whales, or watching your own body horror, like your arm turn into chainsaw (evil dead) or you are possessed by ghosts and zombies and have multiple arms, or get a 3rd eye in the middle of your head) like Strange.
I love Scarlet Witch saying "I'm not a monster" literally two seconds after admitting to killing dozens if not hundreds of people.
@RanMouri82 Sorry for the essay by the way, I just wanted to be clear and specific, because I see that point raised a few too many times.
@Alexander Angelus Big difference between acknowledging Wanda's earlier failings and negating her character growth entirely.
@DLxx agreed
@Klespyrian They just thought, "Ooh, like those crazy dreams where you fall to your death? Cool, put that line in!" 😒
Of all the ways to say "I kill other Stranges." That line was one of the worst ways to do it.
@Thegoatone Oh no, THOSE guys practice Pastamancy.
Saucerer?
Show writers should play more DnD (or other similar tabletops). In those games, players will bend over backward to exploit plot loopholes or use unexpected logic to overcome obstacles. The more exposure they have to this kind of stuff, the better they'd be able to combat it in their own writing.
Only about 40mins into the much needed savage burn, but thanks Mauler for this:
"You ate the entire crayon factory didn't you?"
Haven't laughed this hard in ages. 👌
Lmao I love watching reviews that are twice as long as the movies themselves hahaha. This is hilarious lol so much better than the actual movie
3 times as long
I will never get over the fact Vision gets completely forgotten in this.
@Muhammad Tanveer I always wonder if they regret having kiled him while hardly using him
@Nexus8846 Productions Don't you DARE entertain the idea that the MCU is Earth 616. It ISN'T. They made it clear in the beginning it isn't. Hence why it's called Marvel CINEMATIC Universe. If MCU is 616, then why didn't Henry Pymm create Ultron instead of Stark? Why didn't Cap die in Civil War?
@Krisxxn Fair enough! Definitely would’ve been nice to see Vision in it.
Strange: _Come with me to Kamar Taj and meet the girl_
Wanda: _Sure! I can't believe my luck!_ 🤣
Nope actually.... she says the girl's name and asks for Strange to bring the girl to her.
@Joseph Salmonte A lot of fictions deal with this by requiring a triggering event. (Such as trauma, puberty, training, etc)
fart pains, mad funny!!!
@Joseph Salmonte I know man, it's all fiction. But that was really lazy writing.
Same with all beings that are born with Godlike power. They don't really work if you think about it too much lol
i hope you continue the unbridled series, i swear these videos are like therapy for me lol your silky smooth voice while pointing out plot holes is my favorite thing to listen to on long drives
The most impressive thing about this video is MauLer’s ability to consistently come up with a new, absurdly hilarious alternative name to ‘Benedict Cumberbatch’ for nearly 6 hours straight.
@RanMouri82 MauLer was in the Navy
And how many of them were semen jokes. I'm a woman but thought it was hilarious.
@Shark Fact Storage Coldsteel the Hedgehog was **my** OC, don't steal! 🤣
I thought the mirror dimension was a dimension that reflected reality but can be distorted. Since when did it actually occur in the mirrors
I assumed the dark hold just amplified her
And this is why I was afraid of them letting her use magic instead of just letting her be a psychic. It’s already been thoroughly explained in this video why that decision shot the powerscaling to shit
@Bevvvy I can’t remember when we first see them but we see them fully in age of ultron
@bill MCDerMott What movie was this covered in?
Simple, Wanda became the Scarlet Sue
The mind-reading loophole pisses me off more than any other because it’s such an integral part of Xavier’s powers. Imagine Aquaman being threatened with drowning.
It's been said before that the worse a writer is, the more you can see the intent behind their work. I call it "seeing the uncreative process through the plot holes."
Given established power levels, there is no in-universe rain for Wanda to be able to so easily eviscerate the Illumiwhati.
@Generic Username jesus christ
"Comparable to a goblin's mudslide" is possibly one of the strongest openers to any script I've ever heard.
Hell or simply brainwash them into thinking she was their “mother”, some dark twisted shit. This could’ve gone wrong in all sorts of ways.
25:16 not to mention, if she’s only met two Dr. Stranges; by this movies logic, she shouldn’t have known about the sling ring in the first place considering the “ice Dr. Strange” didn’t utilize one on screen even once
Flash is not needed in any Pokemon game. If you know the route you can walk through the caves in the dark.
You know Marvel is in a bad state when Mauler's videos get longer as more films come out.
@Yobogoya but since they are cabbages its just massively patronizing.
Had a real Dragon Ball Z vibe to it. Got to fight 1v1 lol
Best head canon i've heard about this film.
'Your life wasnt even a joke, jokes have meaning'
😂😂😂🤣
I should remember that
Wouldn't them saying The Book Of Ashanti helped them defeat Thanos be a massive plot hole since in Infinity War Dr Strange said that there was only 1 instance where they win and that was Tony sacrificing himself?
For example,
Strange and America are walking, they shouldnt be but whatever, and Strange asks America how she ended up spiralling through the multiverse.
“Your life wasn’t even a joke, because jokes have meaning”
One of the best lines I’ve ever heard
@The Greendalewitch 2:25:45
Where is that from? Is it from this video. If so, timestamp? I already watched it ,but don't remember him saying it.
@Ensign 'Redshirt' Ricky ,
Wait who said that?
No such thing exists, in the MCU, and Raimi has no fkin clue what you're on about, but it's a funny post.
Five Hours and Fifty minutes. Let me say that again - Five HOURS and fifty minutes. Utterly brilliant at every step. Incredible.
Imagine killing millions of people over some NPCs you made in the Sims. That’s basically Wanda in this movie.
@Andrew Thoesen in other words the sims expansion packs
Yeah, but she got over emotional & then that became irrational thinking. Unfortunate they ruined her like that.
Ya but her sex doll got merced.
Imagine if Thanos killed your sex doll....
I've watched this 3 times by now. Better then the movie itself!
I still can’t believe they had the line “just let us die” in a marvel show. They really can’t decide on being serious with emotions or just wanting to have a goofy time where nothing matters. Pick one!
“It would be like splicing a song and dance routine in the middle of “Zodiac”- Game reviewer Ben “Yahtzee” Crowshaw.
Yes yes that is a beautiful
Keep in mind, this is the same studio that treats Thor’s grief as a “laughing stock”.
@Knightmare Edits Common wanda w common thor L
@Knightmare Edits and the best part is we are meant to sympathize with her understand where she is coming from. The line "when you break the rules your regarded a hero when I do it I'm evil" literally destroyed my brain cells. She is a crazy lunatic who tortured and terrorized a town then goes on a multiversal killing spree for some FAKE freaking kids. While the old doctor Strange saved half the universe. Yeah very different and doesn't make me feel sorry for her just makes he hate her the movie the writters and everyone in charge who collectively agreed that was going in the movie.
That's how thor deals with grief had you watched the movie you'd see thor is legit coping with grief with food beer and humor
5:20:40
That moment right there should've been used as an opportunity to craft a script DURING the pandemic shutdown.
This man is the definition of doing a college paper in the last hour.
5:12:13 "Then finish it. Because I'm with you to the end of the line." I just got chills from an isolated clip of the line. That's how powerful it is.
It's because it's a great callback to the moment between them where Cap thought he'd lost Bucky for good. It's strong, and well-delivered too.
That's not his choice to make, it's litteraly the ONLY option that has a chance of working to save the multiverse...and Christine is there like "Ur cringe"
Do you have a better idea Christine? What magical spells do you know that will save the day?
Exactly, now shut up and help the man ffs!
John Walker dude John Walker.
Every single time he called doctor strange something different I was peeling over in laughter
Most laughs ever in this review. Every time you made another name for Benedict Cumberbatch I laughed out loud.
Whether that stems from magic or not is interesting if you think the braces should stop it, but they make it sound like her strength (and ability to fly) just come from her and is separate from her portal magic.
doing my favourite moments to rewatch
42:13 KAIJU WONG
2:31:55 4th time
How did they completely forget how important Vision is to Wanda's motivations? How did scriptwriting get this bad?
@Sine Nomine while I don't agree with your message I see how you can back up your opinion in some of the films you stated but theres some I disagree with.
Shang Chi gave up fighting for possibly longer than he had been trained while his sister went on to run a criminal under ground all the while honing her skills and HE still ends up saving her and their mothers homeland.
Falcon and Winter Solider didn't make them idiots to me. They seemed to have fairly understandable thought processes and defined character motivations for where they are in the MCU
Do I think it became a little preachy and on the nose sure, but the red headed criminal still looses and isn't treated any more or less fair based on her gender.
@Uncle BaBa nope
@Ichigo Kurosaki yes, but the men are shown in negative light.
No one taught me magic._
Dr, Strange: _I happen to know a witch who can tell us everything!_
Me: _No you don't. You only think this because your writer, being a dumb bastid, _*_didn't watch WandaVision._*
Strange: _OH shix, that's right...welp...too late now!_ 🤣
i've never even seen this movie but i can tell this entire video is probably miles better in quality
A question going on throughout the beginning of the movie in New York City is where the hell is Spiderman?
No plot armor but plot ammo is just as bad.
@Simon Nicoll... That's the joke.
Marvel desperately trying to ignore 'time travel' and 'universe-wide memory wipes' for this plot...
*I got paid. I'm in the MCU now!* - Waldron
This whole movie could have been avoided if Wanda had remembered that ADOPTION exists
6 Hours of Brilliant commentary. Thats entertainment 😁👍
I want to travel to a Universe where Endgame was the end
It was a perfect end to the Infinity Saga.
Then Feige and Disney reasoned - let's keep going while we lose all the talent and see if that matters - The Russos, Marcus/McFeely/RDJ/Johanson/Evans....plus Gunn, Derrickson and now Boseman (RIP) all gone...
Instead we have the Rick and Morty Universe - and oh look the audience actually notices that we are peeing in the kook-aid! How embarassing!
I am truly fascinated by how script writers come up with the most inefficient usage of characters god-tier abilities just so the plot could happen.
Still waiting for Goku to power up though....
That's why Japanese manga is superior
Even though this is close to 6 hours long, I love your critical analysis of movies. Your voice is easy on the ears and it sounds like the voice I'd probably hear on an audiobook I would listen to. I tried to listen to another youtube tell me in 3 hours why they hate The Lion King remake but it sounded like nails on a charlkboard or their balls hadn't dropped yet and I couldn't get past the first 10 minutes of their review.
4 hours through this now. Love it like all your other videos. Thanks MauLer!!
Wow, thats impressive and makes me wanna name-drop Madvocate, Hbomberguy, Jay Exci and
Pop Culture Detective, IF it has to be about Movies.
But MOM completely scratches this
MOM can't even be true to its own 1/2 baked rules, they intentionally ignore established canon from prior MCU films.
imagine a god-tier surgeon giving a know-nothing teenager a scalpal and saying "believe in yourself, you can do heart surgery"
@Diego Gonzalez
You seem like a swell guy to be around. Please deflect any mean words I say about you with a half-assed name-drop of a logical fallacy, as though any of your arguments hold weight themselves. You have to have something better to do with your life, man
@Summer Tyme The classic millennial response: reflexively deny responsibility for something.
Just realized that Mordo should probably have the time stone, right?
Yes.
