A unique ride in the UK, as well as being an Intamin with box section track. Shame Drayton is ditching this iconic ride from its logo. Drayton Manor is worth visiting to ride Shockwave and Apocalypse both standing up.
I think it's really underrated, probably doesn't help it was built the same year as Nemesis at Alton Towers and The Big One at the Pleasure Beach. Those two became household names in the UK, Shockwave not so much.
While the kids are in Thomas Land, I'm usually sneaking a cheeky ride on Shockwave or Apocalypse stand-up no-floor (the only side for me). Glad you enjoyed it, but don't tell too many people!
@CoasterCheetah It's not really Intamin, Intamin was just the seller the ride was actually made by Giovanola. The people who founded B&M used to work for Giovanola and while working there they came up with the box track. 4 Intamin rides used the box track and they are: Flashback at SFMM, Batman the Escape at SFAW, Cobra at La Ronde, and Shockwave at Drayton Manor. Of these only Shockwave remains, Flashback got scrapped in 2007 after being SBNO since 2003, Batman the Escape got moved to Darien Lake after SFAW closed and sat there in a field for years until getting scrapped, and Cobra got scrapped in 2018 after being SBNO since 2016.
Never had the opportunity to do G Force whilst it was around. I think now though the park is in good hands with The Looping Group, new area opening in a week or so with the UK's first Zamperla Nebulaz. Wouldn't surprise me to see a new thrill coaster go in in the next few years. I'd definitely class this park as more family though so I wouldn't expect anything insane.
They use to have a shockwave at magic mountain in Southern California. It wasn’t scary at all. You can sit down slightly. There’s always a seat beneath you
It's kind of amazing how many stand-up rollercoasters were named Shockwave. Well, three of them anyway. Almost as much as sit down rollercoasters named that.
What camera are you using? I've seen videos from these cameras before but I didn't know it could record in different directions at the same time. That's incredible!
I never rode a stand up coaster. I cant really do loops and corkscrews, spins, upside down, etc while sitting. I doubt if i could stand and do it? Great videos, be safe. Thanks, Glen
@Theme Park Review I’m a annual pass holder so I seen the highs and lows the park been thought over the past 10 years. But the new Adventure Cove area for last year and the new Viking area opening on Saturday it’s really looking good for the park with rumours of a big family coaster coming in 2024. I really hope they bring back the pirate Adventure as the building been nearly all stripped but the ride system and boats are still in the building.
It is a very old coaster and a novelty at that time. I agree with the length, it should be longer but it is so unique that makes the whole thing very special. I am yet to visit DM, been in the UK for 15 years and never been there. Glad it’s still operating, should be going soon :)
@Theme Park Review I guess this park actually cares about it and maintains it much better. Glad to hear it's enjoyable because going through a zero g roll standing up sounds very interesting
Shockwave at Great America was a sit down roller coaster with 7 inversions. This is a stand-up roller coaster with 4. "Shockwave" was a common name used by several parks for some reason, but the rides themselves are very different.
Love all the complainers out there who say stand up coasters are rough, when ridden as instructed (HEAD BACK) solves all the head banging issues, making them plenty smooth. Video after video of little twits on KZclip bitching about rough rides, when if you ride almost any coaster as it should be, they are fine. In stead, you see them with their head leaned out bouncing from side to side in the restraints and then bitch about out how rough the ride was. Even the old Togo Stand-up Coasters were not rough if ridden the correct way, and they had AIRTIME, something 99% of these box track stand up coasters never seem to have.
I had actually never heard of them until someone mentioned them during our recent UK visit! (Sorry, I just don't watch a lot of other channels... too busy working!) lol
@JDS Weather First, Brewer, Maine News & Events You probably mean Six Flags Great Adventure, they got Shockwave from Six Flags Magic Mountain and kept the name. It then got removed in 1992 and got sent to Six Flags Astroworld in 1993 to open as Batman the Escape
I would rather have a shorter ride that packs a punch and leaves you out of breath than a longer ride that just meanders around the track and limps its way into the brake run.
I never understood the point of screaming on Orion all you do is lose your voice and it doesn’t change anything and it makes you even more scared than you do that
@Adam Smith Some of those guys might have worked on it, sure, but it's really not a B&M if you're looking for technical aspects of the ride. The design of this ride came from Stengel which does designs for many different ride companies including B&M and Intamin.
@Alexander Jones It's kind of a B&M. They designed it when they used to work for Giovanola. Intamin was the broker who sold it hence why their name is on it.
@Vulpkip It's officially an Intamin, but they sub-contracted the ride to Giovanola. Sadly, I can't find who was responsible for what aspects like design or steelwork.
Please note, on ride filming is strictly prohibited at Drayton Manor. We worked in partnership with the team to safely film on their rides using our professionally secure camera equipment.
@John C I know this, I do record rides like he does if you visit my channel you’d know!
@JettCrocodile but gopros can be securely mounted so they won't come off using chest harness etc
🙃
@JettCrocodile 2dssfs
A unique ride in the UK, as well as being an Intamin with box section track. Shame Drayton is ditching this iconic ride from its logo. Drayton Manor is worth visiting to ride Shockwave and Apocalypse both standing up.
I was gonna say, that's an unconventional layout for a B&M, but makes sense if it is an Intamin.
I think it's really underrated, probably doesn't help it was built the same year as Nemesis at Alton Towers and The Big One at the Pleasure Beach. Those two became household names in the UK, Shockwave not so much.
@SoCal Imagine Channel It was built brand new in 1994 by Intamin for Drayton Manor
What year was that? I think this was moved from Six Flags in CA.
That sure was a golden year for UK coasters.
That zero g roll is so underrated and intense
Looks pretty intense especially because your standing up
It is!
Love your camerawork! Very nice coaster ! Keep up the great vids and have lots of fun riding !
Greetings from Holland 🇳🇱👍
This ride looks epic & fun !!!! Thx for sharing !!! 🙌👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏻😎
I always have enjoyed stand-up coasters! Such a different (and fun!) experience... :D Thanks for giving me a taste of this one!
While the kids are in Thomas Land, I'm usually sneaking a cheeky ride on Shockwave or Apocalypse stand-up no-floor (the only side for me). Glad you enjoyed it, but don't tell too many people!
I’m depressed, you’re videos help me a lot, thanks man ❤️❤️
i hope you’re doing better! and if you’re not i wish you the very best :)
Hope you beat this my man
Did this 15 times in a day once! You get up to all sorts of antics when you go so often.... I wonder if I hold a record?
I haven't been there since the ACE tour in 2002. Hard to believe it's been 20 years! I loved the ride!
The rare Intamin box track coaster! very few of these exist and it looks like they took care of it well!
Very few? This is the only one left
I’ve never been on this type of roller coaster, looks like fun
@CoasterCheetah It's not really Intamin, Intamin was just the seller the ride was actually made by Giovanola. @CoasterCheetah This is the only Intamin Stand Up left
@CoasterCheetah two of intamins/giovanola's lead engineer formed bnm
@Theme Park Review what?! I thought the layout looked weird but the track looks nothing like an Intamin 😂
@Darren Neaves We rode several times that day it was very smooth! In fact, much smoother than our last visit!
I went on this in front row seats it was so fun and scary but I was smiling the whole time 😎
Man I love shockwave it so fun
I hope the park gets another thrill coaster sometime. G-force wasn't really good imo, but it's another coaster we've lost in this country.
with the way the park is going right now it seems certajn that there will be another coaster somewhere in 2024
Never had the opportunity to do G Force whilst it was around.
I love stand up roller coaster Stockwave.
It reminds me of Batman The Escape at the former Six Flags Astroworld. It was one of my favorite coasters growing up. 💗
Your videos.... ROCK!!!!!
It isn’t a true POV without Rob saying:
*WHEEEEEEEEEE*
Standing up coasters are always interesting.
It was great fun riding this backwards.
They use to have a shockwave at magic mountain in Southern California. It wasn’t scary at all. You can sit down slightly. There’s always a seat beneath you
I’ve been on shockwave that used to be at Magic Mountain. This version is much more intense!
It's kind of amazing how many stand-up rollercoasters were named Shockwave. Well, three of them anyway. Almost as much as sit down rollercoasters named that.
@lastone032085 never said anything about who the manufacturer was.
I meant having the shockwave name.
@lastone032085 That was made by TOGO not Intamin/Giovanola
Kings Dominion used to have one.
@Adam Smith kings Dominion, Great Adventure, Drayton Manor.
I used to ride this at Six Flags Magic Mountain in the 1980s.
What camera are you using? I've seen videos from these cameras before but I didn't know it could record in different directions at the same time. That's incredible!
We use GoPro Hero 10 and GoPro Max.
1:48 That guy sticking his hand out! Great video by the way!
They had this at kings dominion in Virginia, it was a fun ride!
my mind randomly thought about this. and i was like "i think stand up roller coaster is a good concept of a roller coaster"
I never rode a stand up coaster.
I cant really do loops and corkscrews, spins, upside down, etc while sitting.
I doubt if i could stand and do it?
Great videos, be safe.
Thanks,
Glen
@Arzovv thanks Bazooka, i appreciate your advice.
Blessings
i was in the same situation a year ago. you can defo do it, just go on some other rides before going on this to build your confidence
Not bad for a coaster that was made in 1994 😎
Stand-up Twister Coaster 1 looks too intense for me.
What do you think of Drayton Manor now since the looping group brought the park?
@Theme Park Review I’m a annual pass holder so I seen the highs and lows the park been thought over the past 10 years. But the new Adventure Cove area for last year and the new Viking area opening on Saturday it’s really looking good for the park with rumours of a big family coaster coming in 2024. I really hope they bring back the pirate Adventure as the building been nearly all stripped but the ride system and boats are still in the building.
It’s great! Much improved from previous years!
Really enjoyed your video!
@Theme Park Review you're welcome!
Thank you! 😍
Good news Robb. This looks like a ride from Six Flags
I’ve been on that ride it’s amazing
That looks like a fun ride but way too short
It is a very old coaster and a novelty at that time. I agree with the length, it should be longer but it is so unique that makes the whole thing very special. I am yet to visit DM, been in the UK for 15 years and never been there. Glad it’s still operating, should be going soon :)
Drayton Manor is a fun 🇬🇧 Theme Park (Shockwave is an insane coaster - 2 nervous 1 thumbs up is right!) ❤️
What. A. Ride.
Please keep her going it's such a rare coaster
We love it!
I remember riding that in 2020 and being suspended in the air during the vertical loop. After, pain ensued and my balls haven’t forgiven me since
I'm getting painful memories of Cobra at La Ronde. Is this one actually smooth or does it a rattle your bones?
@Adam Smith It's amazing!
@Theme Park Review I guess this park actually cares about it and maintains it much better. Glad to hear it's enjoyable because going through a zero g roll standing up sounds very interesting
Oh god, this one is much MUCH MUCH smoother than Cobra ever has been! lol
I LOVE your videos please do a POV of Kingda ka
We have! Check our channel and search our videos! 👍
Riddler's Revenge is the best standup I've ever been on
また日本に遊びに来て下さい(^-^)
This makes me want me to go on this agian and I feel so eixited 😊
I went on shockwave 3 times and it is fun
is it like the old one from magic mountain?
I still can’t believe that this is an intamin!
Only Problem with these early b&ms they're too damn short.
This ride is a bit of a faff to get into. But once you're in, it's quite enjoyable!
I live right next to Drayton in fazely but suprisingly I don’t go there often but when I do go there instead of Alton or Thorpe park it’s really good
is it me or is the brake run super short and a little abrupt? looks like it jolts you a bit
It’s very abrupt in my experience!
@Theme Park Review - that’s good to know. i’d like to ride it someday!
Maybe a little bit but honestly while riding you don't really notice.
Ah yes, the last Intamin stand-up still operating.
Is that the Shockwave that used to be at six flags great America?
@Adam Smith well then they need to be more creative lol
@Theme Park Review ah OK makes sense I couldn't remember because I was so young when it was at six flags I never was tall enough to ride it
Shockwave at Great America was a sit down roller coaster with 7 inversions. This is a stand-up roller coaster with 4. "Shockwave" was a common name used by several parks for some reason, but the rides themselves are very different.
No. Shockwave is just a common name
I'm not into stand up rollercoasters I like the ones where you sit down.
Could I use your coaster video for mine if I give credit?
@Theme Park Review alright
No, sorry.
Two nervous and one 👍 holy crap
Should have tried to do a collab with ThemePark Worldwide
I had actually never heard of them until someone mentioned them during our recent UK visit! (Sorry, I just don't watch a lot of other channels... too busy working!) lol
Hershey Park in Hershey, Pennsylvania used to have a stand up coaster by the same name Shockwave hmm interesting
@Theme Park Review I thought they used to have a stand up coaster guess I was wrong sorry about the misinformation
Not sure what you mean, but Hersheypark never had a stand up roller coaster named Shockwave: rcdb.com/4545.htm
The brakes and insane lol
1:34 So this was the day I went on the shockwave and at this time point you can hear me screaming like a girl
Are you sure that isn't a B&M coaster?
U could of gone on storm force 10 the water ride and done a video on it
They had this ride at kings dominion
Is that sand filled?
@Adam Smith interesting. Sounds a bit quiet
No. This was made before they did that
Are there any seatss
Hey. I have a question. 1:27 THAT’S IT????
I would rather have a shorter ride that packs a punch and leaves you out of breath than a longer ride that just meanders around the track and limps its way into the brake run.
Yeah it is very short, but still a decent intense ride though
I never understood the point of screaming on Orion all you do is lose your voice and it doesn’t change anything and it makes you even more scared than you do that
Did you do on stormforce 10 and sing the log flume song
First comment- Great Video
Wow
At least no butt talk like most videos.
Did you not go on storm force 10 about time for another log flume song
this is one of the B&M classics but also one of the worst looking B&M’s in the world.
@Adam Smith Some of those guys might have worked on it, sure, but it's really not a B&M if you're looking for technical aspects of the ride. The design of this ride came from Stengel which does designs for many different ride companies including B&M and Intamin.

@Christian Schweda try intamin
Giovanola?
First!
First
1:34 So this was the day I went on the shockwave and at this time point you can hear me screaming like a girl
First!
