The reason this guy is so popular is because our world has gone mad and he's saying what most of us are thinking but very eloquently

You could apply that to basically anyone that has a slightly above average understanding of vocabulary and public speaking. Ironic how you say the world has gone mad

@Amanda Castle With the energy people expend fighting this kind of thing, they could just go along with it. And get on with their day, because in the end others would feel better and no actual, tangible harm would come to those that are fighting this.

It's so intriguing to me that a group that demands you accept them, will stop at nothing to ruin your life if they dont accept you.

Difference is he is ridiculing and disrespecting them. I had a white teacher who refused to call me by my name which is a Hispanic name and it’s pronounced in Spanish which is Jose. he refused to pronounce it correctly or to say it in Spanish. It was a power trip on his part. Sorry not sorry …you want respect you give it. He can’t serve crap and then get pissed when people throw it back at him..

      Neither side seems particularly sensible.
There are numerous anti-trans folk (many in this thread) who have completely misinterpreted Jordan Peterson's stance, but have decided he agrees with them and then they misrepresent what he actually stands for. This of course has lead to a bunch of other people deciding to berate Jordan Peterson for being anti-trans.
Jordan Peterson is not anti-trans (as far as I've been able to tell). He does not see being trans as a problem. The issue he is arguing against is the use of legislation to force people to... be nice? Not only is that absurd, but as he explains it's entirely unwieldy in this instance. If I refer to someone as "they" that is an entirely gender neutral term. Anyone can be referred to as "they" - whether they be a he, a she, or a zee. If someone has a problem with being referred to as "they" I'm really not sure how to respond to that.
Someone can say their pronouns are whatever they want, but if they have a problem with "they" I can't accept that (I also have an even bigger problem with the anti-trans folk who insist "they" is only plural and for some reason like to use that as an excuse to lash out at trans people).
If one of my friends asked me to refer to them as "zee/zim" I'd do it in a heartbeat, but putting this *into law* is ridiculous. Perhaps legislation to ban misgendering someone would be ok - don't refer to a he as a she or a zee as a he. But even then what if someone just... makes a mistake? Are they in legal peril because of a simple slip of the tongue? And disallowing people from simply referring to others as "they" is ridiculous.

I am so proud of Dr. Jordan Pederson who is a true authentic loving human being who is my hero because it is extremely harmful to make people speak a certain way and its so horrific to enforce their words into my own thoughts and mouth. Thank you for those who stand up for our rights for what we say and how we speak. People have lost what it means to be kind. Abusive and power, and control over another is enforcing something that isn't true to be true and that is lies.

It’s gotten to the point that people will be afraid to address others because they don’t know what their preferred pronouns are anymore. I’ve seen a persons preference to be called “ clownish” ( yes, they were serious)
Now, people are addressing strangers as “ hi, what’s your pronoun?”
    It’s creating confusion.
How healthy is that? They are forcing you to accept their beliefs but don’t care about anyone else’s.

    • Peg12138
      Peg12138 22 күн бұрын +4

Me and my male friend were approached by some student conducting surveys at a museum. The purpose of the survey is to get our opinions regarding female minority artists. The first question is “What is your gender?” My friend and I were both confused. Excuse me? We were thinking does he not look like a man and do I not look like a woman? We were both still identified as the gender we were born as, and it’s impossible to be mistaken.
I know people try to be inclusive for less than 1% of population out there, but they are offending everyone else.

I am educated, and well read, and I will not sound like an illiterate fool talking nonsense…I’ll leave the word salad to Kamala, lol.

@Kat Brinson I agree completely. I don’t know where you draw the line but mine is I call you by your birth gender and birth pronouns, at least at this point in my life because my friends that use alternate pronouns are not very committed to them. I can’t be arsed with what some people try and get you to say or do.
Sorry if that sounded like a vent but I can’t talk to anyone I know irl about this without some feeling of judgement.

The hard part for me is, I too admit and this admittance by myself has no bearing on my opinion about pronouns or the LGBTQ community. I personally forget my own family members phone numbers and names sometimes 🤣. I mean if I don't remember the pronoun you want to be addressed by, I now am in jeopardy of someone saying that I am discriminating against them? That's absurd. I mean if your name is David and I call you Charlie, that's not descrimination it's an honest mistake. I do see this creating a lot of headaches for millions of Americans, regardless of your political or whatever views. Hell I know a ton of folks from the baby boomer era, that can't figure out how to text on a phone. So how do you think they're going to remember the pronouns to address folks by. Saying I know I won't remember the pronouns for every individual doesn't mean I'm lazy and I'm not saying I wouldn't necessarily try I'm just saying there are bigger fish to fry than this matter. I'm sorry.

The professor is wrong about names too. I met a young gent today called Benjamin. He said he preferred to be called Benj but most people disregard that and shorten him to the standard Benji. He just laughed it off and said I could call him Benji too. Nicknames are actually a sign of endearment. When people lovingly give you a nickname it means they've accepted you.

The weird thing about pronouns is that I would never have any reason to use a pronoun when speaking directly to anyone. I would only use a pronoun when speaking ABOUT a person to someone else. The person would have no idea which pronouns I was using if they weren't there. It's total narcissism.

Jordan Peterson is the bomb! A good listener, answers questions precisely and on par, does not stray from the subject matter of the conversation, he's well educated, is not afraid of the hard topics, has many examples to back up his comments and is very fluent and has a very broad and diverse vocabulary that is much bigger than most people. He's also very handsome to! Love Jordon Peterson.

@D S if you got offended, that's right, by being offended it triggers your capableness to think about your rebuttal. therefore in order to be able to think probably and more often literally you have to risk being offensive because truth has no sugar coating.

Imagine someone hijacking they/them as their first and second person pronouns; you're in a group setting with that person and you need to use those third person pronouns correctly to communicate with other people in the room.
You don't get your own pronouns.

The world hasn't gone mad..just a small minority of people trying to force their way of life down everyone's throats. I thought the world had pretty much reached the point where everyone is happy to let each live the way they choose.By assuming their opinions and agenda are more important than anyone else's ,they are only damaging and diminishing their intended cause.Surely they must know that each individual is entitled to their own opinion. You can't force your opinion on others..Thats how wars start.
