I don't think I've ever heard a bad Lil Wayne song, but this is one of my all time favorites. I knew there was something special about it all those years ago, but now, at the age of 22, I can really understand the message. Of being honest with yourself about your flaws and mistakes. Of accepting your brokenness even when others fail to understand it. The music video adds to the impact of the song...the final mural of Wayne is so intense and striking. I think the imagery involved is how he sees himself, and how he wants the world to see him as well. (Of course, Bruno did a phenomenal job as well. The line “Looking at me now I can see my past, damn I look just like my fuckin dad” hits home for me at 22, I remember my pops had left a year before when I was 11, and when this song dropped I was 12 and I remember feeling the deepness of the song but not being experienced in life to appreciate the song as much as I do now. When I hear it now its emotional at times, it helps me with a lot of the shit I got going on in my life literally. I won’t say I got depression but I’m always alone, closed in a small space in life where I distance myself from everyone I find myself just feeling the emptiness overweighting me and songs like this help me during some hard times from not breaking down.

I don't think I've ever heard a bad Lil Wayne song, but this is one of my all time favorites. I knew there was something special about it all those years ago, but now, at the age of 22, I can really understand the message. Of being honest with yourself about your flaws and mistakes. Of accepting your brokenness even when others fail to understand it.
The music video adds to the impact of the song...the final mural of Wayne is so intense and striking. I think the imagery involved is how he sees himself, and how he wants the world to see him as well.
(Of course, Bruno did a phenomenal job as well. And I find the repetition of his verse to be symbolic of how many times you catch yourself self-reflecting.)

When I hear it now its emotional at times, it helps me with a lot of the shit I got going on in my life literally. I won’t say I got depression but I’m always alone, closed in a small space in life where I distance myself from everyone I find myself just feeling the emptiness overweighting me and songs like this help me during some hard times from not breaking down.
