TNG might have been one of the most stabilizing and enriching experiences of my childhood. Seeing the cast together again, man I hope they all had a good time and got a decent paycheck.

@dmacbass I miss the Enlightenment themes of the original Star Trek and early Next Generation. And that's the problem with modern trek. The original wasn't about fighting a villain, it was about solving problems using logic and reason as opposed to emotion and bias.

@Jesse D I never said it wasn't. I said seeing Picard in a completely different light now bc of this show ruined watching TNG for me. Not pleasant to cringe whenever you see what was once your favorite character, and I'm sitting there hoping he isn't in whatever episode I was watching much more.

      This show blows.
      Picard has been emasculated.
The humanity is depicted as having fallen back into twenty-first century politics and culture.
Star Trek was always about humanity transcending its selfishness, materialism, and greed.
This show throws that right out the window and tries to portray Rodenberry's positive future as if we never changed.
      He's spinning in his grave.

@dmacbass I like the Enterprise-D because it looked like a scientific, exploration vessel. Making the Enterprise a sports car battleship seemed anti-roddenberry. plus the D was their home the E never felt the same. Making it all look metallic and militaristic isn't an improvement. I have a gut feeling we're dealing with TNG Season 1 parasites, the ones who infiltrated Starfleet Command until Picard & Riker blew the main host's head up. I had that feeling after watching the last trailer & now even moreso. They're a major threat that was never resolved. I also have a bad feeling Deanna isn't going to make it.

@Leif I loved the beginning of S2. I really liked where the characters were in S2E1, especially because I thought Rios was finally where he deserved to be.
I hate this mostly because it's everything we were told it wasn't going to be when S1 was released. As someone whose gateway Trek was TNG, I actually don't care to see the cast back as main characters. The movies gave them their closure, IMO. I also really don't care for most of the concept of what I'm seeing in season 3

    • The Star Treker
      The Star Treker Ай бұрын

Except Star Trek: The Next Generation isn't a re-imagining but a sequel to the original Star Trek series and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager are spin-offs to TNG and now Star Trek: Picard is a continuation, sequel to all three and so are Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Prodigy. Of course Star Trek: Enterprise along with the first two seasons of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are prequels to the original Star Trek series and the third season and onward of Star Trek: Discovery is a sequel to all of them where they jumped 930 years to the farthest future, the 32nd Century and the three J.J. Abrams movies are set in an alternate universe, timeline called the Kelvin universe that Ambassador Spock and the Romulan Nero from TNG's era accidently created through red matter and a black hole and also led to the destruction of the Romulans' homeworld, Romulus which is after the events of TNG's 4th movie, Star Trek: Nemesis. Basically everything is connected, an expanded of the Star Trek universe or multiverse (the prime/original universe, mirror universe, Yesterday's Enterprise, Parallels and the Kelvin universe). I think Star Trek is unique, one of its kind from all other sci-fi series and has never completely rebooted or re-imagined but expanded from the original series and maybe a little bit of retcon along the way. I don't care anyone says about the new content, I've enjoyed every version of Star Trek since the day I started watching TNG even the reruns of the original series 35 years ago. Of course everyone has their a favorite Star Trek series and one they don't like but for me I enjoy them all and there's no Star Trek I dislike or hate or find one superior over another, while yes I might love TNG the most. Lol

@MagicAl6244225 I mean, the emitter itself wasn't from the 29th century, it was from the 20th century, and it was made by someone in the 20th century who was stealing 29th century technology with a time machine that he also stole. And with all that concession, it's not stated that it was invented in the 29th century either, only that it was something that could be done. It's not unreasonable that once the actual Federation got their hands on it, they might be able to replicate it.

@MagicAl6244225 They already did, albeit in the season 2 "bad future" - the holo-Elnor had a mobile emitter. Stands to reason that the prime timeline (i.e. "good future" - God, sounds like Sonic CD) would probably have it too. In fact, given the use of ships from Star Trek Online, including the Odyssey-class Enterprise, one wonders if they take a little bit from that; in the "Path to 2409" history blurbs when this game launched 13(!) years ago, it was mentioned that Starfleet had reverse-engineered the Doctor's mobile emitter (and that he had had to go through the same legal process as Data for "personhood"), and they were now relatively commonplace in Starfleet.

@Emperor Joshmaul I remember the early reaction to TNG as well (high school senior year). Some fans just reacted badly to spinoffs back then in general; they're far more common now. Really the issue was quality. TOS was THE groundbreaking show for telling serious sci-fi stories on TV in an era when even most big screen entries to the genre were silly affairs aimed at children. TNG was nothing but a pulpit for Roddenberry to preach his laughable version of utopia from, and to be a cash cow, of course.

The synthetic life forms that tried to cross through a gateway in season 1, an unknown enemy that the Borg feared enough to request admission into the Federation in season 2, and now a possible third one that’s yet to be seen. Now we get the Enterprise F a few times… I wonder if we are going to get a follow up show based on the Enterprise F to follow up these new enemies.

I grew up on TNG, and this cast inspired me and helped to shape my view on the word, life, and what's possible. Trek has been so defiled for so long, and even the previous two seasons of Picard did not inspire me in any way. I am however human and can not deny there is a great yearning in my heart to see this crew together again even if it only breaks my heart more if their legacy is ruined like so much of Star Trek. Or, (hoping beyond all hope) they could destroy this alternate Timeline completely in this "final" season and restore the Trek Universe to what it was before JJ Abrams destroyed Vulcan. Wouldn't that be just amazing!! The TNG crew saves Trek!! It's gonna hurt so much when that doesn't happen though. 😮‍💨

    • Matthew Gaudet
      Matthew Gaudet Ай бұрын +4

The Hobus Star exploding and the destruction of Romulus is canon to the post 2005 new timeline. The JJ films are canon to the new Star Trek. Though Vulcan is only destroyed in the Kelvin timeline. Nimoy Spock died and was MIA in the prime universe. He never returned to the original timeline. The new timeline is very dark and its not hopeful like the Berman era, there aren't any bright colors well maybe except in Strange New Worlds. But that doesn't even have the Enterprise it has the Discoprise.

Correct, Lore always had emotions. After Lore's ego got the best of him, Dr. Soong made Data without emotions until he could find a way to perfect an emotion upgrade that wouldn't turn Data evil. Lore stole the chip meant for Data, thinking it might improve himself. Data retrieved it when he deactivated Lore, but only used it sometimes, deactivating or removing it when he believed it would compromise his mission. A deleted scene in Nemesis revealed Data did not have the chip installed when he died, and afterward Geordi took possession of it. Worf took Spot.

The aliens look a little like the mother creator from that episode, too. There is really nothing left from canon that I can think of that would want, or need, revenge on Picard and our heroes at this point.

Janeway is by far the best of all the captains. she boldly went where no one has gone before and brought her crew home with all there morals intaked. i might have started with TNG in the 80's but voyager made me fall in love with star trek. heck i didn't even watch ds9 till after voyager was over as it didn't air where i was but i was there for every new episode of voyager. i got to watch ds9 for the first time when i got my first streaming ability. loved it. still like voyager the most tho as its the one i grew up on haha. and 14 year old me had the biggest crush on 7. if i ever got to meet her in real life it would be the happyist day of my life.

The world needed Star Trek, and more so in 2023. But, conversely, Star Trek needs the world as a canvas to paint stories that personify a declining virtue - hope. The characters we grew up watching change our life, thoughts, and actions in this world to help make a difference. These stories will outlast our living time and pass on to new generations of people to make a difference. Isn’t that the point of life - to explore, do good, fight injustice, and make a difference no matter the size? Star Trek fans are bonded with the emotional strings of our combined lives, which circle back to hope. Rather than critique with a microlens of what’s wrong with Star Trek and the online clickbait - instead take a 30,000-foot view of what it represents as focusing on one tree, one no longer sees the forest. The ethos of Star Trek is real as the people who play the characters and the people who understand the story and pay it forward in this world. Make it so.
