Feeling nervous for a presentation? Watch this video: kzclip.org/video/ryXOW1QS0ZM/бейне.html How to end a presentation is as important as how to start it. A strong conclusion for your presentation: kzclip.org/video/c5JGl3jZb2M/бейне.html
A simple and to the point. An attention grabber is a cornerstone in your presentation success. One of my very best presentations was in a general public political meeting where I started about a story of a football match that ended an hour before my presentation and I linked it to the topic of my presentation. It was very successful, although the slides were prepared in a very short notice and was not to my standard quality. I got lot of greetings from all audience including the keynote speaker.
@Libbe Green oh yeah I’m so sorry I completely forgot to tell you about that. I passed the course with A grade and your video is still helping me out with my presentations. I am so grateful to you. Thank you and sorry!
For beginners it is fine to be a little telegraphic. The key elements of an introduction are to greet & introduce the topic or issue. You can include a purpose too. Then an outline statement which states the key areas of your talke to be covered. Then invite questions to be asked at the end of your talk. You could also ask your audience a question - rhetorical in nature.. e.g. Have you ever felt a little sick whilst sitting in traffic? Well, today's topic will look at air pollution and noise pollution caused by traffic jams. Stories or anecdotes or setting the scene or mood is harder to do for lower level English learners; however, this inductive manner of getting to the point or purpose of your talk is a novel approach for sure.
I would not promote the cliché way of starting a presentation. It's the main reason the audience mentally switches off, because they instantly know another uninspired presentation is coming their way. Step out of your comfort zone. That's where the big win is.
Very good tips! However, I have a question: In my case, the presentation I have to do for my study must only be 5 min long, with no question time. I have a maximum of 4 slides, excluding the intro slide and ending slide. How do I start my presentation in a more interesting way and still have enough time to talk about my study within the 5 min time limit? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!
For really short presentations, I like "state of mind" comments. For example, "I've been fascinated by hydrogen power since I was a child, and today I'd like to tell you about the current science behind it." It has a little human interest and it doesn't take more than a few seconds to relate the topic to you.
If you only have 5 minutes, I would jump right in. I will post another video soon with more strategies how to start a presentation. Keep an eye on this channel!
Thanks for the great points. I really liked how you explained the importance of connecting with the audience using your "why" instead of "what" you plan to cover.
Thank you!!! This is awesome and straight to the point.... having a presentation job next week, I think following this video, am going to ace it no doubt! will come back to testify for sure!!!
Short and simple. Happy to know what type of tools you use for your presentation. I just started with Animaker Deck, happy to learn more tools like that.
thank you very much for this video it is really helpful. Actually I'll be doing my first college presentation very soon and I'm sure this will be very interesting to start with , thanks 😊
@Presenter Main Thank you for the offer Professor, but as you can see my comment was from 3 years ago when i was completing my major which has now ended. So I am no longer a student but a consultant in a company. Nonetheless, i shall recommend you to some students i know.
@Aaliah Well, an idea is to consult with the person who comes before you and ask them how they are going to end their part of the presentation; and then you use the same words to build a bridge to your part. Let me give an example. Let's say they will end with the mafia in Italy. Then you could start with saying something like "Corruption in Italy is one thing but it's also a global problem, an not restricted to Italy alone. Let's have a look at the rest of the world ..." Do you see what I mean?
@Expert Academy It's about the principles of the Global compact which is mainly about corruption. I'll be presenting my recommendations to cope with corruption.
Thanks a lot for making me aware how to start my presentation while I was much enthusiastic on this as being a student who are getting ready to a presentation. Keep it up 👍
Thank you for this. I came across this video minutes before a presentation I had to give and I went ahead to answer the "why" question with a story and it worked. I received commendations after the meeting and a leader even advised others to tow the same line subsequently in making their presentations.
