You know..... it's possible Tampa wanted to fire Byron last season but Brady fought to keep him b/c he liked him and now that Brady is leaving they wanted to cut ties now in order to find the future guy before other teams got into the mix.

@Jamin Hodges Brady did have like a 105 passer rating vs. pressure. So I'd ask, "Did you see all the times where he beat the defense while under pressure?"

Teams are so impatient, if you don't win the SB every year you're in jeopardy of getting fired (with a very few exceptions, e.g. Tomlin). Very good coaches are getting fired all over the place and never get the opportunity for stability. These teams are so busy looking for "the answer", they fail to see what they have, fail to nurture talent, and will continue to fail to win. Toxic environments won't attract good coaches.

I agree. Tampa lost half of the Superbowl winning offensive line plus all the injuries in the secondary. Plus a weak run game which goes back to the weak offensive line. Leftwich is a good OC in my opinion. He was just the scapegoat. They needed someone to blame. Todd Bowles in my opinion isn't a head coach. Great DC, but not a head coach

I’m not a Tampa bay bucs fan but that o line was horrible n they run game was nonexistent. Tom Brady was never built to play without a good o line or run game. So I wouldn’t say Tom Brady is washed because of that but his bad play to me come from him not having good protection, which throws him completely off. Tom was never a good scrambler because he was never that athletic. So I feel bad for Brian n Tom for real.

Brady looked lost and tired most of the 2022 season ( including that wild card game ). There were ( obviously ) huge coaching problems in Tampa. So when a disaster happens, more often than not, it occurs for many reasons. Especially in a team sport like football.

There's alot of reasons Brady didn't play well but regressing wasn't one of them. He had alot of he surrounding problems he did his last year in New England but then went on 2 of his best statistical sessions of his career after everyone thought he regressed

Any person that watched every play had to question Byron's gameplan and decisions. Constant 1st down up the middle runs that were predictable and often stuffed for no gain, leaving rookie LG Goedeke after playing horrible for far too long. Let's not forget his decision to not let backup RB White not get any kind of reps till halfway through the season. The lack of play action that Tom Brady excels at was also bewildering but Skip and Shay Shay only look at the big games and the final stats and not EVERY play. It's easy to blame Tom but honestly he had no O-line or creative play caller and did the best with that he could despite the coaching.....

100% agree. The only thing I would disagree with is Brady missed a lot of open recievers this year. Skip likes to dismiss his dwindling arm talent with his ability to still throw the long ball but that's not what Brady has become bad at. His accuracy has sunk drastically and it caused his recievers to doubt him being able to even get it to them.

I think tod Bowles wanted to hire his own staff, it’s reported he didn’t have a chance because of the late hiring to interview and appoint his own staff, I think that combined with the fact that byron was mad he didn’t get interviewed for the job it was just time for him to go because of those 2 reasons

What got him fired in my opinion is calling a pass on a 1st and 5 getting an interception and then doing it again. You have to run the ball on the 1st and 5 whether you're good at running or not because otherwise you're just telling the other team you've given up on the run. I don't think it should have gotten him fired cuz we all make mistakes but that was a couple of pretty bad ones.

Ppl not understanding why he’s getting fired didn’t watch the Bucs play. You can predict what they were about to do which was screen pass non stop and if they would get one good run they would automatically do it again. Another thing on the screen passes they called for screen passes so much tom nearly got intercepted several times. Only times they pushed the ball down the field this yr was for 5yd hitch & out routes

    • Mark

@Dereck D, dude come on now. I'm not a fan of the bucs, but if your O-line sucks, your run game sucks, your receivers suck and your QB is playing bad, how creative can you actually be with your game plan? Isn't much you can really do to be honest. I mean you take the bottom 5 teams that had the worst offenses, is that all to blame on their OCs or did they just not have the personal.
I mean look at the Spurs in the NBA. Pop is considered one of the best coaches ever but they suck this year. Why? Cause they just don't have the players that can beat other teams.

    • Christopher Gatelock
Christopher Gatelock 2 ай бұрын +1

@Mark I disagree that a screen pass is the "only" choice if your offensive line is not very good. If a receiver or a back can get open to receive a pass on a screen play there are other places on the field they could get open just as easy and quick. There are teams with bad offenses that continually run quick plays across the middle behind the defense and in fact I have seen many teams do this play over and over and over again to move the ball down the field. There is going to be a problem with any play when the defense knows you are going to run it. If you are going to do that you might as well just throw the ball into the ground. However, the screenplay calls were not the only problem with Leftwich's play calling. He would call a run play for a short yardage first down attempt when the offense absolutely was not able to run a play instead of a pass play that was working better, and it failed nearly every time. It was just too many dumb mistakes he made for as long as I watched him from when Brady went there. I thought they needed to fire him last year and to get a new head coach too, but they didn't do either of those things only made it worse by splitting coaching duties and responsibilities with Bowles on the one thing they did have and that was a good defense. They made Bowles head coach and the defense and the team coaching suffered for it. What happened to mess up this year with the Bucs started last year about 2/3 of the way through the season and here we are.

  • Tay Peso Gaming

He did not get fired because Tom Brady played bad. He got fired because EVERYONE played bad. Every person on the O was worst. The run calls were non existent or stale. There was no kind of innovation on the offense. And he can’t compare the Super Bowl year because yes he was the OC but Bruce arians had alot of control over the offense. The far as I’m concerned with how bad the defense regressed the D coordinator should’ve got let go as well. Every one took a step back.

Byron is as good an OC as anybody in the league. He'll land on his feet. He needs to be HC at a mid-level D1 school, have success and work his way back up as an HC in a major D1 program. He's too good to flounder for long.

Byron Leftwhich was very polarizing as an OC, since he came here in 2019 he did nothing to develop Jameis, 2020 we had a top offense similar to 2019 in the points per game department with a strong running attack, 2021 the signs showed that byron got obsessive with calling power run concepts and screens, 2022 with the most talented offense we had and Tom playing fine the playcalling was horrid throughout the whole year, i would say we ran 20% screen concepts and took under 10% vertical concepts.

Skip Bayless is right about the Buccaneers offensive line play & the running game was horrible & no Play action to set up the passing game so the Buccs with Byron & Tom were actually overachiever's in my opinion! & Shannon Sharp called it on the fact that they were ranked like #1 & 2 in many offensive areas & this year they were like ranked #23 & 24 in many offensive areas so their offense just basically declined skillfully & their weren't many playmakers & an all passing offense just doesn't work no matter how good of wide recievers you have

There's a reason the Buccs had to throw ball 40+ times in multiple games and it wasn't because Tom Brady was bad. It was because the run game was so ineffective they had no choice but to throw it every down.

One day you fall of a cliff. Every QB does. Brady is no different. When he can't move at all in the pocket, and you slip just a bit. It's much worse. Brady had comebacks again terrible teams. Grats. The problem is not that they fired Byron but that they didn’t fire Todd as well. The art of successful leadership is being able to rapidly adjust to the resources you have and achieve your goals by changing the way you are executing based on the strengths you have remaining. A former SEcDEF who will remain unnamed once said that you fight with the Army you have, not the Army you wish you had. I saw no real adjustments by either Todd or Byron that played on the strengths of the men left on the field following several key injuries and retirements. Tom plays best when the offense is short and rapid-fire which keeps the chains moving and the opposing defense on the field. Byron’s play calling simply did not adjust and he was unable to change even after it was abundantly clear it was not working. Tampa needs to move on from Bowles ASAP IMHO, or better yet, offer him the Defense again where he excels.

Tampa Bay needed a better offensive line and the needed to be patient with their run game. LF7 can still run if you give him space.

Y'all are racist because 1yr doesn't account for a true record. They made it to the playoffs. So that was good enough when obviously, Brady had issues during the off season with his marriage.. none of those other players you stated even showed up on the field.. even though they been there. BA retired and got a nice little seat in the building, however, you dumped a struggling team on a black man because you knew you was going to fired him in the beginning of the season. If none of that BF issues and lawsuit came about Byron wasn't their original choice anyway.
Most of these black coaches this season was used.

It’s obviously not all his fault he’s not on the field playing but besides Brady and Julio most of those pieces are there next year so you’d just expect them to run it back with the same scheme. BA is the only reason Byron had a job

This was all Todd Bowles. Byron wanted to be the HC and thought he was passed over for a failed one time coach of the NY Jets. I think Byron tried to call BS plays to get Todd fired in hopes of a job promotion but it backfired on him. The same thing happened in Dallas when Wade Phillips was the HC and Jason Garrett was the OC…..Garrett sabotaged the game-plan in order to get the HC job. When Garrett was the OC they were very pass happy when everybody was calling for them to be more balanced and run oriented. Once he became HC DeMarco Murray almost broke Eric Dickerson single season rushing record. Byron was trying to use that same blueprint and it backfired on him and Todd Bowles got rid of him.
