Korea in the 900 has a very sad history. It is truly amazing that after so much suffering, today it is one of the richest countries in the world. Much love from Italy 🇮🇹
@MrJoker The South Korean economy is mainly driven by exports, especially high tech and semiconductors. Its economy does not rely much on tourism. Ten years ago almost no one knew about BTS. kpop and kdrama were not as popular in the world as they are today, despite that its economy was thriving
Tbh it’s mostly because of BTS, they bring around 5 billion dollars every year to the Korean economy. 1/10 people travel to SK just because of them. So they have the biggest impact in SK’s economy.
Holy s**t you have no idea how happy I am that you did the history of Korea. (Me being Korean) How rare is this?! Love your animated histories btw 😁😁👏👏
I'm half Korean and was raised in the U.S. I know so little about my ancestry but I can't help but feel so much pride in seeing a culture thrive despite being in the middle of a tug-of-war since its development.
1910-1945 The Korean Peninsula was Japanese territory. During that time, there were World War I and World War II, but it developed because there was no damage to the Korean Peninsula. The Korean Peninsula was devastated after 1945.
My grandfather fought for South Korea in the Korean War as a medic. He understandably refuses to talk about what he experienced there. Now I get to peacefully live and work here thanks to his sacrifice.
Thanks to your grandfather's sacrifice, we were able to drive out the trashy Chinese Communist Party and North Korean puppetry from our territory. Thank you very much for keeping the half-million-year history of the Korean people.
It is such an honor to have those warm comments from many other countries. Seems that the world is not that cold than expected :) Have a nice day good friends, Love you all.
I travelled to South Korea before covid-19 and the country is so beautiful. Their transportation system shocked me is cheap and good, most of all very clean compared to New York city's disgusting subways lol. Their food is delicious and in many cases interesting like kimchi, it took me a little but I really enjoy eating it. They love spicy foods. Chicken and Coffee shops everywhere! Really want to go there again
@kuki I did travelled all over saw many old temples and such beautiful nature. But it was hard by myself. I will agree with you. Korea should promote their beautiful country and history to foreigners and make it easier to travel there. It has been years since I travel to Korea and I still buy and eat Kimchi haha is one of my favorite side dishes
The downside of traveling to Korea is that there is no place to go except Seoul. As a korean, It would be nice to promote local tourism but other parts of korea don’t have any magnetism.

@Soo Lee
@Master Trend Good point. Ancient Korean invented the Idu and the Kukyôl by modifying Chinese characters. That's exactly how the Phoenician alphabet evolved into the today's alphabet and the Cyrillic script. By the way, Kukyôl spread to Japan and provoked appearance of Katakana.
Korean don’t have its own characters. How can they record this history? After Korean learned to write Chinese characters, they started to record their history. We cannot call a civilization the civilization when they don’t have their own characters.
As a Korean, I would like to pay huge gratitude for your efforts on making this video. Although understanding about other countries' history is very difficult due to the language barrier, you showed deep and thorough knowledge for Korean history.
As a Mongolian we feel ashamed that we didn't appreciate and understand the Korean culture during those times. The Korean people are a brave and an enduring people that deserve the respect from all Mongols, Chinese and Japanese people.
The diplomacy between King Chungnyeol and Kublai Khan of Goryeo was successful. In fact, Goryeo cannot beat Mongolia. I have been resisting for over 30 years. Kublai Khan said that the crown prince of Goryeo had come to visit him and said that this meant that I was destined to win the Great Khan, so he accepted it very gladly.
@Daniel Zhang American children learn the ancient history of Asia. Once the British Empire and then the USA begin, that’s where history lessons are focused, because that is OUR history. University students are free to take courses that go more in depth into the full history of specific countries.

i just visited Yeosu last weekend and was soooo excited to see the statue of Yi Sunsin and the geobukseon because he's one of my fav historical figures! this is a really simple and well-made video for those looking to learn some of the basics of korean history
@Untamed young Korean history is also very cruel. Also, Korea's history was a vassal state of China and Mongolia. Now Korea's economy is also broken and Korea may become a vassal state of China again.
I am Korean and I think that this video content is well organized, even if I understand the inevitable brevity of our history due to time constraint. Well done and thanks for sharing your excellent work.
Thank you for this video! I hope through this, people can at least TRY to understand why Korea and its people are extremely homogenous. A lot of foreigners / non-Koreans complain that Koreans don't really open up to foreigners. Well... maybe their history could tell you why.
It is much more then a Korean American story. It is about the honor, dignity, freedom, your own choice in a very difficult moments, both in your private life and life of your nation. Last 6 episodes literally didn't let me breathe. I felt like watching the history of my country and I am Polish. In my opinion Mr SUNSHINE shows perfectly their spirit and values and explains why the country in the place it is today.
Despite some of the things you mentioned being different from what we learned growing up in Korea, your umbrella theme of 'sphere of influence' couldn't be any more fitting in my opinion. Above all, the amount of interest that people are showing to Korea is quite fascinating. When I was studying in the states, people often asked me whether I was from China or Japan, and when I said I was from Korea, oftentimes they wouldn't know anything about my country. Thank you for taking the time to create and upload this :)
Goguryeo had a strong "dictator" Yeongaesomun, so when he died, his sons had inheritance issues, which split Goguryeo and weakened it. Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekjae are origins of Korea's rich culture such as Kimchi, Hanbok, and Gat. Goguryeo had a heating system called "Ondol", which is only distinctly used in Korean culture. This proves that Korean culture is deep rooted from Goguryeo and other ancient countries :)) Balhae succeeded Goguryeo. Btw thanks for covering Korea
I admire Koreans for rising up again and again after being brought down by foreign forces through their history. The current situation is not fair, it serves others but not Koreans. However I believe a united and free Korea will rise one day again.
But the case that koreans was devided by foreign forces was only nowdays south and north korea. In other case, many korean countries were established seperately
This is such a great video, thank you for making and sharing this! I’m learning Korean, and I’ve just finished reading Pachinko, and I have such great respect for the resilience of Koreans. Much love from Australia.
I cannot be on behalf of entire Koreans yet, I would like to present our deep appreciations to Korean War Veterans around the whole world. Thanks to their blood and sweat, we could be survived in this world, benefiting democracy. We still remember their sacrifices and we will do return their favors to the world in good will as the duty of human being.
I am a Korean and I really love this video. It is approx. 20minutes with all the important history covered even the most sensitive subject that many don't dare to speak about.
Korea history Gojoseon : Invaded from China 3 Kingdoms period : Invaded from China Goryeo : Invaded from Mongols Joseon : Invaded from Japan and Manchu Korea empire : Invaded from Japan and Western This is why Korea makes zombie movies well. They are immortal.
On the way home from work, felt like learning about a countries history and found this video. Kept me engaged throughout and now probably gonna binge your videos 😂
2:58 Story of Myth When gojeoson was created, a bear and a tiger asked the king/god dude if they could be humans. the king dude said that he would make the bear and tiger into humans. but there was a catch. they needed to eat garlic in a cave without seeing light for over 100 days. The bear kepted on eating and the tiger ended up giving up. The bear's hardwork had turned her into a beautiful woman. Every boy in the village wanted to marry her. But after finding out that she was a bear, they didnt want to marry her. The woman was upset. The tiger came to her and offered her to come back to the wildlife with the tiger. shd declined. The king dude asked the girl if she wanted to be her wife. she gladly accpeted it. and boom done. now my finger is burning
The first king of Goguryeo was a prince who had been pushed out of the power of Buyeo. The first kings of Baekje were the princes who had been pushed out of the power of Goguryeo. Later, Goguryeo conquested Okjeo and Buyeo. And later, Baekje called themsleves descendants of the destroyed Buyeo, so Baekje changed its name to Nambuyeo.(southern Buyeo). Balhae was a dynasty which was founded by nobles of Goguryeo. They were all ancient kingdoms of Korea.
Fun facts about Gyeongju, the capital of the Silla dynasty of Korea: 1. Some Arabian records say there were so many gold in the city that even some house roofs were decorated by gold and the air was so clean that it could heal a person 2. It was the 4th largest city in the world at that time 3. It was the second longest city which was the capital of a country in the world(1000 years of Silla)
@bjorn de vlieger yeah and there's literally Rome, London, Constantinople, Xian and a lot like sorry about misinform a lot of Koreans a really patriotic
I'm so impressed that you understand history of our country pretty well! I think that Its hard to find someone (even in korea) who knows korean history more than you.
The Philippines had also sent a battalion to Korea that arguably turned the tides of the war as they managed to hold back Chinese soldiers just in time for back up to come with less than 20 casualties Mind you they held back hundreds of Chinese with only less than 100 soldiers with them
This is fantastic! Hilarious dr. Silla joke, interesting commentary on linguistic usefulness of phonetic Hangul, in-depth historical timeline -SUBSCRIBED👏🏻
being someone who was born in korea but went to all of school in the US, i don't know a lot about Korean history. Thanks for making this video. I always had pride being korean and knew that koreans had a rich culture but this is much more than i ever knew
Thank you Brazil 💗Love from S.Korea I hope so too.. north koreans to be free after the dictatorship of n.korea ends. The process will be difficult, but I hope it'll become a peaceful unified Korea someday.. :)
remind me of some old saying , history is being written by the winners , weak country has no diplomacy ( as in they are not able to determent their own path ) Korean history is truely very fascinating
Yes. If you look at the details, Korea have been enjoyed full sovereignty in both domestic & foreign affairs for thousands of years until 1882. And Korea has never been disappeared from the map until 1910.
Just found your channel. I would absolutely love if you did a video on Canada! I’m doing a cross country road trip up there next year and during the planning stage it dawned on me, I know nothing about their history! Part of what has made my US cross country road trips so enjoyable is visiting historical sites. I need to study up on Canada!
@탈모빔 Much respect for Germany but be wary of visiting. There are still a lot of racists there against asians. If you don't believe me just look up videos of asian racism in germany. Also watch how badly Son Heung Min was treated at his time there in the Bundesliga
@ez J I think that we shouldn't pay so much attention to old symbols anymore. It's always the same when you tell your child not to draw a swastika, surely they will because taboos are exciting. Education is the step towards improvement. Germany still has a lot to learn in that regard. peace from germany
i am korean I came to see what people from other countries think about my country. I also found out that so many people have a good perception of my country. I am really proud of my country!!🇰🇷🇰🇷
I’ve been invested in watching and consuming Korean culture since I was 8-9 years old and this year my Korean friend said that I should know the history. I realized he’s right. I’m Chinese and Vietnamese and so I know the history of them better, but if I am to keep interacting with Korean culture I thought it made sense to learn more.
You should make correct video. 10:59 Korea had tributary relationship with China but Joseon was independent country. The Chinese tributary system was a largely symbolic Confucian world order with its basis in trade & philosophical relations between foreign states & various Chinese dynasties. Its relation to the sovereignty of some states was flexible & diverse. Larger states (e.g., Joseon Korea & Japan) enjoyed full sovereignty in both domestic & foreign affairs, & their intl status cannot be considered ' dependent states'.
I never Korean history was this interesting. I feel like there's so much more spotlight given to China & Japan. Thanks for this introduction to the subject!
My heart breaks for these people. Outsiders see kdramas and kpop idols and think "wow" but the reality is so much darker. People like Oli London will never understand the country or what it's people have been through. Despite all the blood and carnage they've experienced, their culture is beautiful and rich. My heart is with Koreans and I pray to GOD that the North Korean dictatorship will fall and Korea will be united as one once again.
I’m fully appreciated of your video which is explaining well about the History of Korea, it was really educable and clear information to understand!!! Thanks again
Love to all Koreans from Slovakia! 🇸🇰❤🇰🇷🇰🇵 I also included North Korea too- because despite having a controversial leader to say at least, I still wish the best for the people there, as most of them are definitely innocent and most importantly, they still live and their lives matter.
A very great video! I really appreciate it. I'm a Korean and one of my ancestors was the general-governor ( or feudal lord ) near the Seorabeol, specifically nowadays northern Busan. That is what is written in my family's lineage book. And also tracing to the root of our family's ancestry, I have the blood of both Gaya and Shilla. Yes it was like at least 1000 years ago and too ancient but nonetheless that gives me the feeling of belong that the history of our nation is also the history of my own family.
I can tell you what this was a beautiful video and a sad but very informal story and good for North Korea they started it all. I love South Korea and would love to visit im also learning Korean as well! But your videos are great and always use them for my homeschool curriculum! When are you posting again? I literally watched all your videos already lol 😂 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Korea has always been the country of the people. Through hard times, when the government officials ran to china, sold the country to Mongolia, surrendered to Japan, it was the common people that came together to protect the country with many right-minded generals. We see this happening in modern Korea as well.
From Korea, you understand Korean history so well. I'm so excited you made this history as video! I hope much more people from all over the world watch this video and love Korea!!! Thank you!
The Liao army who were flooded by Gang Gam Chan only lost a few men, the main cause of casualty for the Liao troops was the battle of Guiju(귀주대첩), where Liao lost approximately 80000 men
I'm Korean, so I'm not very good at interpreting it, but I can understand it just by looking at the pictures, but it's the first time I've seen a foreigner channel who knows Korean history so well.
한국역사를 소개하는 영상이 있다니 놀랍네요. ㅎㅎ 다들 관심가져줘서 고마워용~ It is surprising that there is a video introducing Korean history:) Thank you all for your interest in Korean history.
I just want to point out that Suibhne sorta downplayed Yi Sun-Shin. Not only did he only have THREE turtle ships, he lost his rank, had to restart from the common soldier divisions, and rose his way back up to Admiral General... TWICE. The turtle ships were also destroyed in the middle of the war, and every single time Yi had fought, his ships were almost always outnumbered by the Japanese forces
Went to Osan, went to Seoul. What struck me was, I think it was the end of the day, and the Korean National Anthem started playing. Everyone stopped and stood at attention, so I did too. After it stopped, everyone still stood. Then The Star Spangled Banner started. Goose bumps and eye sweat. Love the Koreans.
If possible, it would have been nice to introduce the founding philosophy of the Korean people(The myth of the founding of Gojoseon). The founding ideology of Korea is '홍익인간 Hong-Ik-In-Gan'; It has an altruistic national vision of building a nation that benefits humanity widely. I believe that one day in the future, if Korea reunifies, it will become a peaceful country that helps people around the world.
I actually think it would be brilliant to have Hangul as a universal alphabet. I mean it’s easy, has straightforward pronunciations, and is effective. Really the only alphabet I can think of like that. Though our alphabet is good, our rules and pronunciations are a complete joke.
Amazing video! Keep up the good work! Just small nitpicking at 6:37, I believe it should be "east" instead of "north" (at least according to the name, "dong" in the word "andong" is Chinese for east)
I feel tragedy of Korean people well. Hopefully they will be united into one country. Koreans are really tough people. Love from Poland.
I hope that Korea will be unified too!
yes poland is korea in europe
poland complain to germany
Korea complain to japan😂
@Chrisx We also remember the China's invasion of Korea

So the men in Korea must go to millitary and service for army for 18 months ;)

Goryeo is after Goguryeo.

Above all, the amount of interest that people are showing to Korea is quite fascinating. When I was studying in the states, people often asked me whether I was from China or Japan, and when I said I was from Korea, oftentimes they wouldn't know anything about my country. Thank you for taking the time to create and upload this :)
I send all prayers to the Koreans in North Korea and hope to see the beautiful country reunite again from Cuban American 🇺🇸 🇨🇺🇰🇷💔🇰🇵
God bless the DPRK and long live Comrade Kim Jong-un! 🇨🇺❤🇰🇵 ☭
I love Korea from Turkey. 🇹🇷💖🇰🇷
Ok but which korea? North 🇰🇵 or south 🇰🇷
I love Türkiye and I support Mustafa Kemal Atatürk 🇹🇷💕
@Bakunin Why not free yourself first. Won't you kindly try asking the locals first before making decisions for others. It would be apprecoated.
@Çınar Özkilimci the brainwashing
@Rozhin It would be nice if you could tell me in which direction it is similar to North Korea.
Honestly one of the best coherent and easy-to-follow history channels on this app. Surprised you're not at a million subs already!!! Keep it up!!
South Korea's national motto after all is 홍익인간 or, to benefit humanity.
Another National Culture I enjoy learning...Korean Culture like Finland is unique as it's language.
Finland and Korea do have a lot in common!
As a Korean I feel like this is a good way to remember the history.
I am a Korean and I really love this video. It is approx. 20minutes with all the important history covered even the most sensitive subject that many don't dare to speak about.
Korea history
Gojoseon : Invaded from China
3 Kingdoms period : Invaded from China
Goryeo : Invaded from Mongols
Joseon : Invaded from Japan and Manchu
Korea empire : Invaded from Japan and Western
This is why Korea makes zombie movies well. They are immortal.

On the way home from work, felt like learning about a countries history and found this video. Kept me engaged throughout and now probably gonna binge your videos 😂
2:58 Story of Myth
When gojeoson was created, a bear and a tiger asked the king/god dude if they could be humans. the king dude said that he would make the bear and tiger into humans. but there was a catch. they needed to eat garlic in a cave without seeing light for over 100 days.
Idk why but “king / god dude “ made me laugh 😂😂😂
The first king of Goguryeo was a prince who had been pushed out of the power of Buyeo. The first kings of Baekje were the princes who had been pushed out of the power of Goguryeo. Later, Goguryeo conquested Okjeo and Buyeo. And later, Baekje called themsleves descendants of the destroyed Buyeo, so Baekje changed its name to Nambuyeo.(southern Buyeo). Balhae was a dynasty which was founded by nobles of Goguryeo. They were all ancient kingdoms of Korea.
Fun facts about Gyeongju, the capital of the Silla dynasty of Korea:
1. Some Arabian records say there were so many gold in the city that even some house roofs were decorated by gold and the air was so clean that it could heal a person
2. It was the 4th largest city in the world at that time

During the Korean War my country of denmark sent the arguably most famous hospital ship MS Jutlandia under the UN flag
The Philippines had also sent a battalion to Korea that arguably turned the tides of the war as they managed to hold back Chinese soldiers just in time for back up to come with less than 20 casualties
Mind you they held back hundreds of Chinese with only less than 100 soldiers with them
@Peppa Da Best and delicious food
At the Famous Scandinavian nation such a rich history
@김창환 translation please
This is fantastic! Hilarious dr. Silla joke, interesting commentary on linguistic usefulness of phonetic Hangul, in-depth historical timeline -SUBSCRIBED👏🏻
I appreciate the appeal to empathy--to "feeling" history and not just recounting it. I was edified by this video. Thank you!
being someone who was born in korea but went to all of school in the US, i don't know a lot about Korean history. Thanks for making this video. I always had pride being korean and knew that koreans had a rich culture but this is much more than i ever knew
Hey there, love to korea from brazil❤ thank you for always staying strong, and i hope one day the north korean people can be free
Thank you Brazil 💗Love from S.Korea
I hope so too.. north koreans to be free after the dictatorship of n.korea ends.
The process will be difficult, but I hope it'll become a peaceful unified Korea someday.. :)
This is one of the best Korean history YT content ever. wow super impressed by the details and research.
remind me of some old saying , history is being written by the winners , weak country has no diplomacy ( as in they are not able to determent their own path )
Korean history is truely very fascinating
Yes. If you look at the details, Korea have been enjoyed full sovereignty in both domestic & foreign affairs for thousands of years until 1882. And Korea has never been disappeared from the map until 1910.
i love your videos! can you possibly put subtitles for people hard of hearing? thank you!
I'm Korean, and studying history at college. So, I watched this video funny!
Thanks to introduce Korea history to people.
Greetings! ❤️🇰🇷 This was very helpful for me, at school we barely learn about Korea and its history.
Goguryeo was shortend Goryeo in 5th by King Jang su. Goryeo was transferred to world into Korea. Korea is the name of old dynasty Goryeo.
As a Korean, I deeply moved by your dedication. I appreciate it so much.
Love to all Koreans from Germany
한국에는 마늘이 한강을 이룬다는 전설이 있지
@탈모빔 Much respect for Germany but be wary of visiting. There are still a lot of racists there against asians. If you don't believe me just look up videos of asian racism in germany. Also watch how badly Son Heung Min was treated at his time there in the Bundesliga
Guten tag mein freund
@ez J I think that we shouldn't pay so much attention to old symbols anymore. It's always the same when you tell your child not to draw a swastika, surely they will because taboos are exciting.
Education is the step towards improvement.
Germany still has a lot to learn in that regard.
peace from germany
Thank you
i am korean I came to see what people from other countries think about my country. I also found out that so many people have a good perception of my country. I am really proud of my country!!🇰🇷🇰🇷
I love your videos! They are engaging and I actually use them in my classes. An animated history of the Philippines please... ;)
As a Korean-American I am glad you did an episode on this. This story needs to be told. It will affect everyone.
I'm so happy that you finally made a history of Korea!!! Thanks a lot :D
Thank you for making this video. I really appreciate the candid content which lot of people find uncomfortable to speak out.
Thank you.
That was very well put together. Thanks for making this comprehensive video
I lived in Japan for a few years in the early 2000s. History of the whole region is fascinating! Thanks for the video
This is the most thorough yet compact history of Korea, better than 3 years of mandatory Korean history classes
Korea deserves unification and 1000 years of peace. Special place, Special people.
Thank you. This presentation on Korea is well done - simple, enlightening and stimulating interest to learn more.
Wow korea is so underrated in warfare. Basically pioneers of the proto missle launchers and armored naval ships
Love to all Koreans from Slovakia!
🇸🇰❤🇰🇷🇰🇵
I also included North Korea too- because despite having a controversial leader to say at least, I still wish the best for the people there, as most of them are definitely innocent and most importantly, they still live and their lives matter.
Thank you for concise history in entertaining format. Lots to think about.
I had a hard time understanding the concept of 'han' until i studied Korean history, then, sadly, it made perfect sense.
I wrote a book about Korea and still learned a few things from this, thank you :)
I love all of your videos,I would love to see Egypt in the next episode🇪🇬
Korea has always been the country of the people. Through hard times, when the government officials ran to china, sold the country to Mongolia, surrendered to Japan, it was the common people that came together to protect the country with many right-minded generals. We see this happening in modern Korea as well.
History and the past have never failed to amaze me. Thanks for the videos.
The most well-organized and precise clip about history of Korean peninsula I've ever watched.
ㅎㅎ 다들 관심가져줘서 고마워용~
It is surprising that there is a video introducing Korean history:) Thank you all for your interest in Korean history.
After living there for almost a year loving the place in a very deep way I can say there are some very open and raw cultural scars on that place.
Thank you for treating Korean History! I feel so grateful!
All the love for the Korean's from the Philippines! Been watching videos about korea because of the netflix Kingdom series. Very interesting history.
Sorry I could only donate 2 bucks but you deserve a lot more, these videos are amazing and very helpful
It's a great video. It expresses the history of Korea well.
I think it would be so interesting to see Indian, Pakistan, Afghanistan or Kazakhstan history!
Thanks for organizing the history of Korea
I really like how you portrayed this, you're really impartial.
As someone who's (South) Korean on my mother's side. I really enjoyed this.
Excellent video Very informative and obviously well researched
