The irony is the Addams kids ARE even more educated that most kids their age. Wednesday is polite, kind, sweet, and charming for just being a little girl, and Pugsley is a loving little brother who can come up with some crazy inventions kids his age could only dream of doing.
This is an incredible pilot. The writing is excellent as the overall concept and all the characters are introduced to us in a very natural and entertaining way. I also really like the overall art direction. An instant classic for me, as I'm already re-watching it again, less than 24 hours after discovering it...
"Why have children just to get rid of them." Really speaks of Gomez and how he utterly love his family (especially his kids), he wants to spend just about every single waking hour with his two kids, learn of their interests and encourage them to do better than ever. Could even see it when Wednesday and Pugsley were getting dragged off by the teacher, Gomez almost couldn't bear the thought of his kids leaving him.
@Gino Borrero this! my parents would put me on lock down and i had zero freedom when i was a kid but now that im an adult, i feel like they don't care about me at all. my little brother is still in school and he gets in trouble all the time and even got sent to a different school and he doesn't get in trouble at all. parents who neglect their kids don't deserve them in the first place
You speak the truth. Parents nowadays seem like they don’t care much for their kids and they get into trouble. We definitely need more parents like Gomez and Mortica
Seeing the addams here and then in wednesday, i don't get why they are made so evil and scary in the new versions when these people are literally the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Sure they like dark stuff but they still treat thier guests with kindness
They're definitely not evil and scary in Wednesday. Dunno how all of you got that impression. Did you watch the whole series? They're a loving and wholesome family. Wednesday herself is going through a teenage rebellion phase.
Well, in Wednesday parents are super cringy. They are not scare, just awful. Al the lights turned to Wednesday, just as a canon of netflix last serials, where main hero - superclever, superstrong female, who has kinda strange but strong character. Such a simplification on characters, that are not actually need in exact libretto line... Kinda sad, but nobody notices it. People likes it a lot, and that means that series made great success.
"If we wanted them to be happy, we'd have let them stay home." IDK, that line broke my heart for Gomez a little bit. I think part of why he doesn't want the kids away from him is because he can't protect them from being socially outcast or discriminated against by the outside world. Because the Addamses are incredibly sweet and open hearted and generous, but they know the world outside hasn't always been kind to them in return.
A loving father/husband, a loving mother/wife, two well-mannered kids that respect their parents/elders, and a family of good hearted people. And these guys are considered “strange.” Pretty sad when you think about it.
I will always love how their family is meant to be creepy and weird but they’re all such nice people 😭😭 whenever someone comes into their house they make it as if they’re the weird one, yet they don’t treat them badly. I love this show so much 😭
I love when Gomez walks up to Tish and she puts her hand on his face and he is completely mesmerized. Someday I'll have my Gomez, or Homero like we call him in Mexico 😍
So many sitcoms were based on the premise that the husband character dislikes his wife/kids or at least barely tolerates them. I always enjoyed how devoted Gomez was to his children and loving he was to his wife.
he reminds me of my boyfriend, he treats me like a goddess and will even start randomly giving me kisses on my arms/cheeks or neck like he does to Morticia. i've always wanted a relationship like this and im so glad i got it 😭
To this day they are still the most courteous, devoted family in the universe. Also I can't get over how totally adorable Lisa Loring was as Wednesday,.
Oh nah that comes in later. There was a later episode where she complained her guillotine wasn't working so she couldn't chop off her Marie Antoinette doll's head.
@average-art You misunderstood my point! :) Tone on the internet. I was more pointing to the fact that I assumed Wednesday had been made fun of and that's why she came home crying, but she was upset because someone in a book was killed, even if it was supposed to be "heroic." I was lauding her empathy!
@test but still, dragoons and any creatures are the greatest, and its sad that some people were using those poor fiction creatures as a sense of fearful things (Just saying its fiction is all, no hate pls)
What I love about The Addams Family, no matter how old or new the shows and movies are is that they care about their family and are willing to protect them no matter what.
The writer of this show was a genius, if you take a step back, the show was about the families/people we view in real life as strange outcasts, weird, therefore not "normal" and yet, they are more loving, more involved and more happy than we could ever be
This show emphasizes how looks can be deceiving. Families that seem so functional to the outside world tend to be the most destructive. Parents who seem “normal” to the outside world tend to neglect and abuse their children behind closed doors. The Addams parents are so loving and care about their kids regardless of them coming off “creepy”.
They really r the best family 😭 Gomez and Morticia deeply respect and love each other, Gomez loves his kids and loves spending time with them unlike many dads in the 60s, they’re incredibly polite and not spoiled despite being rich (having a butler but not making him do things they can easily do themselves), and being concerned not only for their kids but for the other kids at the school ugh 😭❤️
R.I.P., Felix Silla, Cousin Itt. I watched this show as a kid and loved it. I watch it as an old man and still love it. It is too bad that some network suits decided to pull the plug after only two seasons. Terrific show.
It's adorable how caring and loving Gomez is to his family. In so many shows and movies, the Dad is either dead, a deadbeat, or does absolutely nothing. It's so nice to see a father like Gomez actually care and adore is kids and wife.
@eye🐝trollin Not really, sitcoms with kind of incompetent dad's have been a trend for a while now, and some of the most famous even like Hal in Malcolm in the middle, it's just that now people have the media to call that out
No it's just some nonsense they've been pushing in all the media for about the last 20 or so years, even most the sitcoms of the 90s had great dads or male figures but you know we have to hate them all the time now,,, 🙄🙄
I appreciate the ideology of the writer and creativity of the director how they portrayed these characters in such humorous manner. The show is full of humours and punches. ✌🏻👍🏻🙏🏻❤️ Love from India 🙂
Thank you Charles Addams for these marvelously macabre characters. And thanks to the show's producers and the brilliant cast for bringing them all to life. May The Addams Family continue to bring delightfully demented fun for generations to come. :)
I love the effects of this show from festers light bulb to thing popping up from everywhere. My favorite in this episode is at 23:10, where thing comes out of a bowl on a table, but when the camera zooms out the underside of the table is open (or however you would say not obscured and you can see the what is underneath) and you can't see the hand actor.
My high school girlfriend invited me to her house for dinner and her family was watching this show while eating, now this show has become one of my favorites
Fabulous episode! Love the way the characters are introduced to Mr. Hilliard in their elements. Watched this program in the 60's all the time ... still LOVE the Addams Family!
I love the Addams Family. They're creepy, kooky and eccentric. I also love when they speak their own language in more of a gloomy, grim, creepy but loving way I love in this very first episode when they respect villianous characters from fairytales and mythical creatures like dragons 16:38
This is a family dynamic I like to see: A dad doting on his daughter (i.e. how he was waiting for Wednesday's hug after school & devastated when she cried) and proud of his son (i.e. boasting of Pugsly's octopus wrestling & respect towards his parents). Dad Goals 👨 ❤!
When I was younger, I couldn't figure out why Morticia cut the roses off their stems and took such pride in it. It's because Gomez was allergic to roses! 😊
The Addams Family is like the family that broke out of the matrix in the 60’s, but tv deterred living outside of the box by making them seem extremely “weird.” This show has so many messages.
i’ve always loved the way morticia crosses her arms. her hands are so confident and graceful ugh i aspire to be like her walking around so beautifully 🥺🥺
i love how Morticia is so nice to her children, as well as Gomez. when i heard lf them i knew that they wouldnt even be scary or creepy even though they were supposed to be.
I had to laugh at Mr. Hilliard trying to persuade Gomez on teaching his kids to read! I was reading before I was four years old and I learned more stuff outside of school! 😅😅
@Anna Bourbon I was also in a homeschool kind of thing for my last few years of highschoool. I actually learnt more than traditional schooling. I really don't understand why most people think homeschooling is a bad thing. 🤷
Oh man I loved these as a kid, and I love them even more now. They just dont make good shows like these anymore.. Im so glad they are still around for our viewing pleasure. Thanks!
I love Gomez saying “Why have kids if your just gonna send them away?” It not only shows Gomez loves having his kids around, but also calls out the REAL intentions of sending your kids to school.
I think the Addams family are a super healthy and normal family, however they're just a tad strange. I think they were trying to send the message that every family has its weird side and that the Addams are just an extreme example of that.
Get a guy who looks at you like how Gomez looks at Morticia. Gomez is sweet, fun, and charming. Morticia is graceful and kind. I love their relationship.
Merengues PerSempre so you're meaning to say a character is interesting if they hate their wife and children? But not, if they love them? It's a good change in a character because nearly every single father character in a show both back then and now, hate their wife and children. And Gomez is a real interesting character either way, so I don't know what you're on about.
@bianca yep I knew someone who wasn’t allowed to listen to little mix because of their song “black magic”. I feel so bad for kids who grow up in toxic brainwashed households like that. Religion truly does destroy so many kids
I once met a girl who had never watched any of the Addams family adaptions, because her mother told her they were “against god” and “from Satan” because of their odd behaviours. Same with things like Percy Jackson or Harry Potter, it was all “against god” and “promoting satanism and witchcraft”
I love 60s TV series. Those have very short episodes but are able to tell a 1,5 hours of storyline in only 24 minutes. You don't get bored but also not get addicted to the whole series and have a need to watch a whole season in a day. Of course, as a 21st century person it is a different feeling to watch something shot 58 years ago, but little facts in this series are so satisfying to watch. The Addams Family is controversial and extraordinary in a creepy way, but mostly because the mother figure is more decicive and in charge of the control of her family, the father is very lovely and caring of his children, fulfilling the expectations of a 60s society when it comes to motherhood. The partners are so in love with each other and in a very healthy relationship. The children are also way more intelligent than their coevals and treated equally by their parents. Differences are understood and accepted by each family member and I feel like this show is quite much educating for the families who used to watch it on TV at its time.
I can't express how much i love this show. I just made a comment about the rack to some of my friends and they thought i was weird. I think i need friends from the Addam's family line.
“Why have children just to get rid of them?!” That was a fantastic line, ❤️

@Dante Casás Sáez I see.
@Dante Casás Sáez You mean they are better?
The irony is the Addams kids ARE even more educated that most kids their age. Wednesday is polite, kind, sweet, and charming for just being a little girl, and Pugsley is a loving little brother who can come up with some crazy inventions kids his age could only dream of doing.
Agreed
I get the indearing comments but I think some people forget, it's a TV show.
Pugsley in the sitcom is the older brother of Wednesday
💯💯🖤🖤🖤
Wednesday 22 is the opposite
They're supposed to be creepy, yet they're really nice people. I like that.
@Broadway Brook same
The original wedesnday was nice wouldn't say the same about the one nowadays
@Rozy.B No
@Billie Edwards no
@Billie Edwards yes absolutely
This is an incredible pilot. The writing is excellent as the overall concept and all the characters are introduced to us in a very natural and entertaining way. I also really like the overall art direction.

Agreed. Although this is the first episode, the writing, the characters and the sets all feel remarkably "lived in".
"Why have children just to get rid of them."

..came here because I read that he said that and had to come here just to hear him say it... Gomez adores his family!
Yep, my dad was the same way. He said to us once how when school started up again when we were little he got depressed because he liked having us home
Seeing the addams here and then in wednesday, i don't get why they are made so evil and scary in the new versions when these people are literally the sweetest people you'd ever meet. Sure they like dark stuff but they still treat thier guests with kindness
Well Netflix has this thing of wanting to make darker versions of things. Sabrina the teenage witch, Riverdale Wednesday.
They're definitely not evil and scary in Wednesday. Dunno how all of you got that impression. Did you watch the whole series? They're a loving and wholesome family. Wednesday herself is going through a teenage rebellion phase.

Because it's a comedy diamond. Wednesday is just some overrated farce.
They are still very loving and great parents and the new version stop reaching.
I wish every child had a dad as loving as Gomez and a mom as loving as Morticia
🖤🌹🖤🌹

Agreed
Durange as them as well or as care free and human as Wednesday and Pugsly
We all,wish but we don’t :(
Gomez running after his little Wednesday and comforting her when she is upset, Priceless!

A true. loving father.

@Sarah Elroub adoro come Gomez rincorre Mercoledì su per le scale e poi la culla in camera
All to true, everyone around them are so quick to judge them for their intrests that they fail to see them for who they really are
I will always love how their family is meant to be creepy and weird but they’re all such nice people 😭😭 whenever someone comes into their house they make it as if they’re the weird one, yet they don’t treat them badly. I love this show so much 😭
A show from 1960s is still being watched in the 2020s. That is when you know that the directors, writers and cast did an amazing job with the show.
@Antony Stringfellow where did you watch this show? I loved this episode and I want to watch more.
It's almost timeless too :)
You mean in the 2023's
I saw a lot of people who hate this show for no absolute reason😔
me waching this in 2023
Gomez was so worried about Wednesday crying and so quick to comfort her. Man, all parents should be like him.
"What is there for a six-year-old to read?"
"But, someday she'll be twenty-six!"
"See you then."
I love Gomez! XD
Way too funny 😂
Hi, How are you doing?
Ciao
After 60 years. This show humour still hits hard
I love how Gomez kept holding Wednesday while he ranted! So sweet to see him so worried about his children!
I love when Gomez walks up to Tish and she puts her hand on his face and he is completely mesmerized. Someday I'll have my Gomez, or Homero like we call him in Mexico 😍
Be the Morticia~
Homero is the spider.
So many sitcoms were based on the premise that the husband character dislikes his wife/kids or at least barely tolerates them. I always enjoyed how devoted Gomez was to his children and loving he was to his wife.

i love that gomez respects his wife's decision and loves his children.
To this day they are still the most courteous, devoted family in the universe. Also I can't get over how totally adorable Lisa Loring was as Wednesday,.
it's so weird seeing this version of Wednesday. She didn't even cut off her own doll's head. Still, an amazing show that will last forever.
Oh nah that comes in later. There was a later episode where she complained her guillotine wasn't working so she couldn't chop off her Marie Antoinette doll's head.
Love it when Morticia dances to the upbeat harpsicord. Lurch's expression while playing. Priceless.
I love how fast Gomez runs to find out why his daughter is so upset.
What took Gomez so long to get to Wednesday's bedroom? He was right behind her, when he reached the top of the stairs. 🤔🤷🏻♀️
@average-art You misunderstood my point! :) Tone on the internet. I was more pointing to the fact that I assumed Wednesday had been made fun of and that's why she came home crying, but she was upset because someone in a book was killed, even if it was supposed to be "heroic." I also like that she was upset because of the dragon. I assumed a kid made fun of her, but her upset was for a fictional creature.
@William Ramirez That’s the best part for me. Of course, it’s just a story, but she’s clearly upset and he validates that. Best dad!
The delivery on "that's a closet, I'm sorry" was perfect.
Its incredible, uncle Fester looks exactly the same in the new show as in the old show!
What I love about The Addams Family, no matter how old or new the shows and movies are is that they care about their family and are willing to protect them no matter what.
"Angel, your father sent Lurch and it's very difficult for people to refuse Lurch." 😂 I love how that line is subtly funny, yet tender.

This episode is hilarious! I love the scene with with Miss Comstock agreeing with Morticia and Gomez about Mr. Hilliard! 😂
I love how polite they all are.
This show emphasizes how looks can be deceiving. Families that seem so functional to the outside world tend to be the most destructive. “What is there for a 6 year old to read?”
“Well, one day she’ll be 26!”
“See ya then!”
God I love this family

Comedy like that is a rare occurence these days.

Gomez talking to that guy about the nonsense that school is made my day 😂😂😂
"Well, one day she'll be 26!"
"See ya then!" 🤣
"father it was terrible they killed him!"
"Mr. Hilliard?"
how that unfolded always makes me laugh
Anyone notice when Wednesday runs in crying, she's clearly smiling?
@Just a commenter yea but, shes really young.
@Benrisal and Pastel hey! Imma kid and imma good actor, I mean, I think?
She’s a cutie.
@Benrisal and Pastel oh totally. It was just something I noticed.
Yup, but we gotta remember that she is a kid, so she’s not a very good actor but she’s trying her best
Gomez: "ridiculous! Why have children just to get rid of them?" What loving parents! 💗💗
Morticia's the only one who can say "I'm not a regular mom, I'm a cool mom"
Speak for yourself. My kid's friends told us we're the "cool parents" when they were teenagers.
Please stop talking
So this is where regine george of mean girls mom references that line
You’re forgetting about Jinkx Monsoon
😂😂👍🏼👍🏼
R.I.P., Felix Silla, Cousin Itt. I watched this show as a kid and loved it. I watch it as an old man and still love it. It is too bad that some network suits decided to pull the plug after only two seasons.
Terrific show.
So glad to have met him in tacoma
It is interesting how naughty a show can be and still be family friendly.
Hard to believe that this was originally Wednesday. I miss this version. Don’t get me wrong, the new ones are ok but nothing beats the classics.
I enjoy both of them. The new is just a bit more serious and modern
18:00
I can't get over how adorable it is that Wednesday runs up to sit on Morticia's lap or how the smile she gives when Wednesday does
I could only wish there was parents like this nowadays , so well rounded! I was raised with this series

Thank you Charles Addams for these marvelously macabre characters. And thanks to the show's producers and the brilliant cast for bringing them all to life. May The Addams Family continue to bring delightfully demented fun for generations to come. :)
I love how, in every episode, Morticia refers to him as, "....that nice Mr. Hilliard".

*one of the most lovely family in tv history and now with the wednesday serie this is more evident*
If Morticia and Gomez knew what Grimm’s original fairy tales were, they’d gladly read that to Wednesday and Pugsley
@Samantha World
Yes, but Addams may rather choose “Someone Like You”, “Kiss, Kiss”, “Over to You” or else if they pick Dahl’s book for storytelling.
@Shunned uh you know Roald Dahl also makes books for little children?
@King Barnaby They would probably only allow them to go on the darknet anyway.
@kelly usoro Yes and they took up a whole warehouse
The Grimm brothers were story collectors, if I'm not mistaken.
I've been told they barely wrote stories of their own, though I have yet to research.
Exactly Mr Adams gets it, “why have children if you just want to get rid of them”
My high school girlfriend invited me to her house for dinner and her family was watching this show while eating, now this show has become one of my favorites
“She’s six years old!”
“One day she’ll be 26!”

Honestly Gomez is a whole mood
Fabulous episode! Love the way the characters are introduced to Mr. Hilliard in their elements. Watched this program in the 60's all the time ... still LOVE the Addams Family!

Okay
Funny how tv characters have to show real fathers how to be fathers
Be fathers
I love how he said
"Why have children just to get rid of them?"
The Addams Family is like the family that broke out of the matrix in the 60’s, but tv deterred living outside of the box by making them seem extremely “weird.” This show has so many messages.
After watching Wednesday on Netflix I had to come check out the older version ❤
@Sophia Z. Well its a teenage version
@Sophia Z. A show like that requires a little tension and drama, especially since Wednesday is the oddest of the Addams family.
Same I wish they didn’t make Wednesday hate her mother cuz the Adams family is weird but they love eachother!
Me Too
Nah you commenting that much closer to me is wild
Still as wonderful now as it was when I was a kid watching it 🖤🖤🖤
The Addams are really a wholesome family
i’ve always loved the way morticia crosses her arms. her hands are so confident and graceful ugh i aspire to be like her walking around so beautifully 🥺🥺
The way she crosses her arms drives me wild
@PrettyIn Pinky the original comment wasnt in any way about being a mom😂 i think it was about her grace and femininity
Being a mom is much more than walking🙈
I noticed the original cartoon M did that.
This was funnier than I expected!!🤣🤣🤣
But didn’t know Pugsley is supposed to be older than Wednesday, and Gomez is taller than Morticia
12:06 I love how Morticia interprets it like an acceptance letter XD
I honestly LOVE this version of Wednesday
So cute, funny, and retro. I could watch this all day 🤣 *snap, snap*
i love how Morticia is so nice to her children, as well as Gomez. when i heard lf them i knew that they wouldnt even be scary or creepy even though they were supposed to be.
"Why have children just to get rid of them." That is a comment from a parent who gets what being a parent is really all about.
Lol, true... 100% smart man x3
I had to laugh at Mr. Hilliard trying to persuade Gomez on teaching his kids to read! I was reading before I was four years old and I learned more stuff outside of school! 😅😅

@Vampire Fan 1992 way sorry, she was the lucky one.!!!
Ooooor they were already lawnmower and helicopter parents 😀
The first shot of morticia in the first episode is instant legendary beauty
"Why have children to just get rid of them" love that. Some parents need to hear that
The Addams family are the family goals all of us want, because nowadays the "normal families" are toxic households
@Anon ymous there is really no normal it’s just a range of normalsy
Because normalcy is an act and requires constant suppression of your real self
Oh man I loved these as a kid, and I love them even more now. They just dont make good shows like these anymore.. Im so glad they are still around for our viewing pleasure. Thanks!
I love Gomez saying “Why have kids if your just gonna send them away?” It not only shows Gomez loves having his kids around, but also calls out the REAL intentions of sending your kids to school.
The Adams are the most polite family in America.
Facts
Nononono the whole world
They may be mysterious and spooky. But they are the best people in the world
I was just thinking that Morticia is so courteous
Facts
I think the Addams family are a super healthy and normal family, however they're just a tad strange. I think they were trying to send the message that every family has its weird side and that the Addams are just an extreme example of that.
The funny thing is, the Addamses are super friendly and polite and not actually creepy or dangerous at all, just peculiar. I'd love to hang with them.
Pure genius.. what a way to start off a series 😂😂😂
I used to love this show when I was little. The Adams Family were more fun than the shows that featured normal families.
The Addams are the best example of a healthy family
Get a guy who looks at you like how Gomez looks at Morticia. Gomez is sweet, fun, and charming. Morticia is graceful and kind. I love their relationship.
Darrin Spears okay
@MoonWho78 thanks for the correction mate
@Red guy with a Top Hat romantically* interesting anyone in real life
Merengues PerSempre so you're meaning to say a character is interesting if they hate their wife and children? But not, if they love them?
It's a good change in a character because nearly every single father character in a show both back then and now, hate their wife and children. And Gomez is a real interesting character either way, so I don't know what you're on about.
First episode Iam watching on
To this KZclip channel.
Time 5:58PM Mon 8/17/20
The Addams Family, The Munster’s, Gilligan’s Island and Batman were the after school shows to watch.
Can't believe this is more wholesome then most modern sitoms...lol.
Even if she doesn't go to school, she is better than other kids going to school.
It's so odd that this show was trying to portray the strange and creepy people... but it's so oddly wholesome.
Addams Family versions come and go,some better some worse, but the 60's show will always be my favourite.
How could anyone not like The Addams Family?
@bianca yep I knew someone who wasn’t allowed to listen to little mix because of their song “black magic”. I feel so bad for kids who grow up in toxic brainwashed households like that. Religion truly does destroy so many kids
I was scared of them at first 😂had to actually watch
I once met a girl who had never watched any of the Addams family adaptions, because her mother told her they were “against god” and “from Satan” because of their odd behaviours. Same with things like Percy Jackson or Harry Potter, it was all “against god” and “promoting satanism and witchcraft”
Karens won't like them
My son likes them
I love 60s TV series.
I love Lurch in this show because he actually has speaking roles as opposed to future incarnations.
A good family with a lot of culture!😊
I like the nice touch that everybody knows to avoid stepping on bruno the still alive polar bear rug
We don't talk about Bruno no no
I can't express how much i love this show. I just made a comment about the rack to some of my friends and they thought i was weird. I think i need friends from the Addam's family line.
1:40 I love that shrug Wednesday does when the Truant Officer asks to come in. It's like she's thinking.
*Wednesday:* Whatever, your funeral.
The sound effects, the characters clothes, etc. They're amazing.
Gomez is a great example of what a father should be.
15:21-15:35
Gomez just loves it when people throw him a little dark humor.
Shows back then were so good and so pure. I miss that.
