@robert riteman never said I was a Mavs enthusiast but I will say I'm a Mavs fan! No one truly know's Kyrie ambition or what he's really capable of. People quick to be followers and with that being said....judgemental from someone else analysis or prospective of him or someone they really don't know !! People have it bad painting picture's of someone especially when they can't have their way with him.... then they fabricate the character! Mark Cuban and his Mavericks team have their chance to see.

I get it - you are a Mavs enthusiast and want to believe this will work out. No one doubts that it will go well this year but time will tell if it was really a good move. However, as someone who is objective , for the time being I will remain a skeptic because of his past history . For the sake of Mavs fans I hope that I will be proven wrong @True With It !!

This was honestly a chance Dallas needed to take. Everyone and their mama knew luka couldn’t carry them to a chip, it was like watching bron in Cleveland first run around. If anything they just needed to try to have some talent to compete, even if it doesn’t work it’s good effort. Finally, fire rob pelinka

I’m sure plenty of teams in the East inquired about Kyrie and I’m sure had better packages but it’s hard for a team to trade in conference and teams like LA and PHX probably aren’t willing to deal the little assets they had for him and sent bad packages. A 20ppg type player is very good value for Kyrie when you know you can’t get a star from anyone.

As a mavericks fan I am not sure how to feel, this could easily not work out (kind of expecting it not to tbh) but a big thing for me is that if kyrie does end up leaving in the off season anyway the mavs freed up a lot of money which theyve needed to do for a couple years now.

@Siphiwo Mhlongo there are 30 teams in the nba only like 4 teams come to ,ind as free agent destination and that Lakers,Knick’s 76ers other times it could be Chicago as well. Your logic isn’t great because then no other teams would get free agents lol players gotta sign somewhere and whoever give the most money most likely is gonna get the player. Everyone always wants to,play for the Lakers but. They don’t get the best free agent every year

For Dallas this trade is not about acquisition of Kyrie or loss of 2 good players, it's about keeping Luka happy and trying to build around him. If Cuban perceives him as franchise player as he thought of Dirk, he'll do everything possible to bring necessary force around Luka to make the Mavs champions again. Now he's young and they continue figuring out what tipe of co-star could fit him.
In my opinion good center who can score and defend like Jared Jackson or PF like Zion could be a good fit but they are impossible to get by now. Kyrie for certain will not fit well, Skip got good point here regarding their usage and dribbles.

@Phil.K "Nobody expected him to fall into the Jordan and lebron level of rookie talent," - literally everybody outside the US did. Literally EVERY non-US poundint was raving about Luka, more than they do about Webby now.
Maybe reality for Dallas is indeed as harsh are you present it to be. I don't know. To me looks like a dumpster fire. The Bucks feature the most expensive starting line-up in the NBA (even after the Suns traded for KD) and they might be the best team in the league when everyone's healthy. If the Bucks did it, the Suns can do it as well, but one needs go for "underrated" two-way players that can fit around a generation talent (e.g. Middleton and Holiday, Lopez and Portis, etc.) instead of flashy players who have their own agenda...
Anyway, we'll see how this is going to play out.

    • Panagiotis Atmatzidis
      Panagiotis Atmatzidis Ай бұрын

@Phil.K so... You won a chip by mistake and you don't plan to win another one. If that's the case then Luka will most likely leave.

    • Phil.K
      Phil.K Ай бұрын

@Panagiotis Atmatzidis Impossible. That's not how a "stuck" team such as the mavericks works, in terms of building a roster. First of all they are historically one of the worst drafting teams in the league, due to an outdated and incompetent front office. And no, you can not use Luka and recent young success as an argument. Second of all the historically bad drafting and FO lead me to the next point, which is that the mavericks did not have time nor the capability to build a roster around Luka due to the unforseen factor that he developed into a highly skilled, winning player almost immediately. Nobody expected him to fall into the Jordan and lebron level of rookie talent, which is why they were not able to develop any other picks steadily along with luka, and instead opted to try and surround him with more talent, which has failed on both occasions due to the players themselves and FO incompetence. And finally, the mavericks are not a free agent destination, so there is no waiting for help. Especially when you also have, statistically, the cheapest owner in the entire league. Therefore with all that in mind, the only option that the mavericks have is taking risks and gambles, something that many people do in life. If the risk (kyrie) pans out, then all the better. If it does not, we move on and continue to do what we were doing before this trade, except now we have more money to try and look for something such as an all star next to Luka, as well as try and find some defensive minded roleplayers as well.

If Kyrie doesn’t pan out, they can let him walk and have room for a max spot. AND Luka is happy because there’s no way they make this move without him signing off so in his eyes they got Porzingis in 2019 and Kyrie in 2023 so he can’t say they haven’t been trying. I think this was smart for Dallas (all things considered and being relative). Maybe JKidd can get through to him 🤷🏿‍♂️ And if nothing else i love content so this will be a good show lol

i think what will happen is this. Kyrie and Luka lose in the 2nd round but they look solid together. The Mavs want Kyrie back but he decides he still wants to go to Lakers.
The Lakers sign and trade Rui Hachimura and a first round pick for Kyrie Irving who the Mavs also sign and trade. The Mavs were known to be targeting Hachimura at this trade deadline. Hachimura will probably get a contract of 4/68 so figure like 17 million per.
Mavs will then be able to still have around $16 million for another very solid role player or 2 decent rotation players.
Maybe they bring back Seth Curry and also sign a project like Cam Reddish.
Luka, Seth Curry, Bullock, Hachimura, Wood, Reddish.......meh it's a 7th or 8th seed in the West.
You also turned Dinwiddie and DFS into Hachimura, Reddish and Curry. So maybe a wash at best.

I think this trade could actually work on the court, Dallas has four bigs 6ft 10ins or more, so the can provide some measure of interior defence, and M.Morris is a strong proper wing defender with an okay offensive bag. The question is, can they avoid the drama that seems to always follow kyrie off the court?

  • Seth Wolff
    Seth Wolff Ай бұрын +1

This trade wasn't about wining a championship. It was about showing Luka that they are willing to make moves to keep him happy and get him some help. Luka has been vocal about wanting them to make a move, and in voicing his displeasure with his current roster. This was to keep him from getting to a point where he is asking for a trade.
Does it make them better?, yes but marginally. Kyrie is an upgrade over dinwitty. (though dinwitty is underrated and an efficient player). But the loss of finny Smith who was their best wing defender and a valuable 3 and d player, is going to hurt. Those guys are also the most valued asset in the NBA and extremally hard to replace. Not having that 3 and D guy, on a team that was already not great defensively with Lukas inherent defensive liability's, Is going to hurt. Who is guarding the elite wings in the league now come play off time?
So now you have Kyrie, and Luka...both who are Defensive negatives, and you lose your best defender in the trade.
IF dallas cant outscore their opponents, then they are going to have issues
My prediction. - Regular season is going to look good, then they will get exposed in the playoffs when teams start to repeatedly seek out poor defenders as the game slows down.

He will be very good this season, although the fit isn’t great and they will be a first round exit. But man after that they will have to pay a fortune to keep him … like the kind of contract that kills teams. And eventually he will sour on Dallas. BIG risk.

I think LeBron and Kyrie played really well together because they complimented each others skill set LeBron on Defense and Kyrie on offense. Although LeBrons athleticism is crazy it's better utilised on defense and whilst Kyries bag is bottomless paired, plus also LeBron isn't ball dominant and is a pass first player. It's also a relief to have him on the team because he'll give you 30 if you need him to. Honestly Lakers should've signed him.

It all boils down to Luka playing with Kyrie. If they can make that work and sort of take turns it can be very productive and bloody dangerous, but I don't know if the European mentality, coming from coaches who are expected to scream at their teams until their heads turn completely red, can coddle Kyrie in the right way. But at least the drop off when Luka goes for a rest isn't going to be as day and night as it was before. And the defense is going to be an issue down the line too... But it will sure be interesting to see if Kyrie can redeem himself out of his self created mess.

Defense is a huge problem for the Mavericks, but as they said - Luka averaged 26 shots per game last season, while Brunson averaged 13. The big question now is - is Kyrie willing to settle for only averaging 13 shots per game or also Luka should reduce his number of shots and share the ball? The games when Luka scored 50 and 60 points may be over if the ball is shared and both players score 30 points each and everything is good for the team, but will the egos of both players be able to accept it?

@MultiSVED Better or not is irrelevant. He plays the same position as Luka. They are both two of the best ball dominant ball handlers in the NBA. There is only one ball. Kyrie isn't a 'sharpshooter'. He needs to handle and create his shot. No one better, BUT that is exactly what Luka does. Because of the conduct of Harden, Kyrie Ben Simmons and others it should be anticipated that the CBA negotiations are going to be contentious as many of the owners are upset about players forcing trades and not honoring their contracts. However, that would mean rolling back terms of the current agreement which understandably the Players will not want to accept. No one should underestimate the potential for a Lock - Out and losing at least part of a season. The trade is effectively a win for both Kyrie and the Nets as he will get a better contract from the Mavs and they got rid of someone they no longer wanted ( no matter his talent) but based on his track record it is probable that within 2 years it will turn out badly for the Mavs . I can appreciate that the Mavs fans want to ignore his past history but as in the parable of the Scorpion and the Frog , the nature of a person cannot be changed. None of the talking heads have noted that the Mavs cannot only offer the most money to sign him but that the State tax rate of Texas is far more beneficial then California .
