Po, was also raised by a duck. His high reaction speed comes as a learned behavior. Making him more comfortable and dangerous to his opponents later in the series.
I also love the fact Po fell from a very great height and walked away like it never happened. If I saw a man drop from a ball of fire land safely from 40+ feet and act like nothing happen, I would think he was a super hero.
Also, Oogway explicitly stated that the Dragon Warrior was among them after Po catapulted himself sideways to watch the do their demonstration. I'm willing to bet he internally was going "okay, so if he's that willing to go, and he'd land right around the fireworks, I'd put his time until landing at around a minute or two. Just need to grandstand until I hear the fireworks go off, and then I can start in, and then point wherever he lands. Bonus points if he lands in the middle of the square. That'll anger Shifu enough to find peace once he comes to terms with what happens."
Additionally to his body mass and padding and his combination of the styles of all five masters, he also has a mental aspect that qualifies him above the others, above any other Kung Fu practitioner in that fictional version of China: His attitude to King Fu. For everybody else, Kung Fu is a duty and privilege, one that demands absolute discipline and sacrifice. When Po broke into the festival Oogwei has seen his dedication to Kung Fu, to do what it takes to get to the festival. But Po always held Kung Fu as a passion, not a duty. The Furious Five and Master Shifu never actually enjoyed Kung Fu, and neither did Tai Long or Lord Shen or Kai the Destroyer; for them, it was their destiny, their duty, both a privilege and a burden. Long after becoming the dragon warrior, Po still was a total fanboy, doing Kung Fu because of his love and joy for it. I believe, that is the true "future and past of Kung Fu" that Oogwei has seen in him. The love for the art combined with the dedication to effort.
@Alex Zero I understand that he wasn’t dedicated to training but I would imagine training kung fu is hard but that doesn’t mean he didn’t love it Through the movies And shorts it was hinted that he fell in love with it
And what makes this even more poetic is that Po is the one who originally, “accidentally”, assembled the Furious Five without any of them realizing it. It was a self fulfilling prophecy, he set himself up to eventually become the Dragon Warrior. It was always meant to be him.
Well not Technically true, because in the 3rd film IF this theory was posted BEFORE the film came out is that the real reason why he was chosen NOT because of he was JUST the Dragon Warrior, is because he can use chi since he is a panda and its his destiny to use chi to become the Dragon Warrior which why Oogway chosen Po to be his successor and NOT one of the Furious Five especially Tigress
thank gosh i saw this comment bcs i was thinking THE EXACT SAME THING!!! i just finished watching all of the kung fu panda series along w the extra ones. Secrets of the Scroll was just the cherry on top after watching kfp3
Oogway picking the dragon warrior from the furious five, he thinks to himself. "Hmmm which of you is the fattest? Hmmmmmm" *po lands in front of him* "oh thank God"
“Why was Po the chosen one?” This question is answered in the third movie. The panda species helped heal Oogway when he was hurt. They also trained him on how to use chi. When Oogway saw Po land into the stadium, he remembered the potential of pandas and his relationship with them. So, he picks Po as the Dragon Warrior.
9:55 it is like iroh once said: "It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it become rigid and stale. Understanding others, the other elements, and the other nations, will help you become whole."
The dragon warrior was always supposed to be a panda. Oogway was just waiting for one to show up. And he did! In the most Macho way possible. Riding a chair with fireworks strapped under him right in the middle of the choosing.
The fact that all of these details from the movie line up so perfectly to explain exactly why Po was the only one who could be the Dragon Warrior is so amazing and precise that I honestly think there’s no way the people working on this movie didn’t do that on purpose
Nope. Actually it's a mind trap, you hear good speech from self-assured guy, you believe it, and that's what makes you think that this theory is real deal. Mat Pat could make you believe in everything, like time travel in Titanic.
The line where PO says "but it could never hurt more than it did every day of my life just being me" as someone who still has issues with body image, this hit so hard. Him overcoming that and beating the bad guy was pretty encouraging.
Fun fact. Asian dragons are considered to be a fusion of animals. The head of a stag, the mane of a lion/tiger, the body of a snake (or turtle in some iteratioms), the legs of an eagle and the scales of a fish. Dragons in asia are literaly a unification of beings. Their place in mythogie is also as guardians, both of knowledge and the gods themselves. So the dragon style being a combination of all other styles makes perfect sense. Just some mythology trivia.
I’m Chinese and born in Australia and in more times the head is a lion the statues also look like the Chinese representation of lions but it’s probably a tiger who live in China and was modernised into a lion also Chinese dragons don’t have manes as a separate part the mane is part of the tiger no offence
@G I'm really bad at naming things I think what he means is that back in the feudal era, when Europeans saw the bones of dinosaurs, they thought they were dragons. This kind of thinking would eventually end in the 19th century when the term "dinosaur" would come to pass. Also it is not the first time skeletal remains were turned into something else, the ancient Greeks also thought mammoth skulls were the skulls of the mythical cyclops and that is where we get that story from.
If we let pandas die who will be the dragon warrior exa- they are 7 more types of bear we let one of them do the job and pandas never contributed to anything and never will if they did not have cute privileges we would leave them to die
Seeing and hearing master oogway just makes me remeber my favorite line. "Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, But today is a gift. That is why it's called the Present"
"It perpetuates false stereotypes about how a fighting body has to be" Isn't the whole point of the movie that you don't have to be thin and built to fight? Isn't that the ENTIRE point of the movie? To break those stereotypes?
@Misfit Mania 3:25 - He says he doesn't like it since he assumes the movie doesn't actually know the capability of the body type, just by saying _it,_ referring to the movie, perpetuates stereotypes. He's saying the movie itself perpetuates it. And then doesn't address that the movie was purposefully showing these stereotypes as a resolution to disclaim these stereotypes. If he would've acknowledged this aspect of the film, then the comments wouldn't have to keep pointing out his misunderstanding. This whole thing isn't a big deal but he flat out criticised the movie for something it's already aware of.
@ᜑᜒᜋᜒᜋ Пинагод he just said he didn't like it, doesn't mean he was saying it was unneccessary. I didn't like it either, does that mean I don't understand the movie? No, but it still makes me uncomfy.
@RADÖRNIC I think you're referring to viewer. Any normal viewer of his knows he interprets differently, but I'm both normal and not a normal viewer of his, and I interpreted it as him misunderstanding what the point of that part is. Besides, even if he meant that he just plainly doesn't like how everyone was body-shaming him, he misses the point that this body-shaming was necessary for Po's pushthrough and essential for the characters' personalities of reacting to Oogway's decision. They're hard on him because they're hard on themselves and the world have been hard on them, they're not gonna go easy on some random guy who probably doesn't even know kung Fu.
In Kung Fu Panda 3, they discuss how the pandas had mastered chi. And Oogway trained with them. In part 2, we find out all pandas were apparently killed off. So Po was the last (apparently) panda, with the ability to unlock chi.
Not exactly because IF you ever watched the end of the 2nd film you know they survived since Shen lied about wiping all pandas before he encountered Po.
I really like the themes of the three Kung Fu panda movies, the first one is about chasing your dream and reaching the goal, Second movie is about some of his Past trauma and that you don't need to be the physical parent to love your child and the third about meeting his real parents and finding the balance + having now a bigger family that cares about him.
@gaming name here: Huh? That is just a normal thing in Kung Fu Panda, Tai Lung can also do that, Po as well, every Kung Fu fighter is basically immune to fall damage. It is therefore not Plot armor. Plot Armor is when it protects a character from something others in the same universe would die from, but as we can see in all 3 films others don‘t die from fall damage either.
I wish MatPat had covered this, but Bruce Lee learned all kinds of martial arts. His base martial arts was Kung Fu from China, but he improved it with other fighting styles and his final style was called Jeet Kun Do (just like dragon style is a mix of all of them). And wouldn’t you know it, Bruce Lee was associated with dragons.
@piqqeh It’s because destiny is a major theme throughout this whole franchise. Without it, Po would never have become the Dragon Warrior, and Shifu would not have achieved inner peace, among many other things I don’t have the time to discuss here. Oogway did say that “One often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it.”
Hey Matpat I would like to say thank you for being on the internet for the last few years. You have been able to give light to answering questions that the general public and social media want answers to about media, video games, and movies. You're videos are helping those who want answers. So again, thank you.
I’ve always had this question: If Po never landed in front of Oogway would he still become the dragon warrior or would one of the furious five become the dragon warrior. Or would Oogway walk past all of them go outside the Jade Palace and still select Po to be the Dragon Warrior
My whole life my reasoning for Oogway choosing Po to be the dragon warrior was the fact that he was so determined to enter the jade palace that he was willing to blow himself over the giant wall with fireworks. His determination is what impressed Oogway. But let's say he never succeeded. He would probably choose one of the furious five (preferably tigress) because Po never went over that wall, therefore he never got to 'prove his determination' I guess.
As an overweight athlete, I’ve always loved this movie. I know it sounds dumb and cheesy, but it helped me accept myself and showed me to never assume what a person is capable of just by their appearance. Dedication and passion are way more important than being the “ideal body type” and Po never let anyone talk him down. Mad respect
One other bit of minutia which very easily gets overlooked: Po is the ultimate Kung Fu fanboy. When he gets dumped into the Jade Palace, he *INSTANTLY* recognizes every artifact on display - he knows their history, their significance, etc. More subtle yet even more reveling is when Sifu grasps Po with the Wu-Xi Finger Hold; for an instant, Sifu is actually impressed that Po not only recognized such an obscure technique but even knew when it was developed and by whom. Knowledge-wise, Po is already more advanced than any of the Furious Five. Two things stand between Po and his already being the Dragon Warrior - physical conditioning and self-confidence. When Sifu recognizes this (as Po is raiding the pantry),he finally understands how to help Po; yet even Sifu's best efforts aren't quite enough. It's only when Mr Ping reveals the secret ingredient of his Secret Ingredient Soup that the last piece of the puzzle falls into place and Po instantly comprehends the true meaning of The Dragon Scroll. Which doubles back to the burning question: How did *Oogway* know that Po was the Dragon Warrior? Simple. While the Furious Five were busy with their demonstrations and Sifu was preoccupied with emceeing, Oogway (being the chill, hyper-observant Zen master that he is) was the sole witness to Po's determination to get inside. While Oogway had no way of knowing how much Po had studied Kung Fu, he saw Po's dedication and perseverance; where such repeated failure would have broken the Furious Five (and, in particular, Sifu), Po just kept at it no matter what. Notice how the one time Oogway chooses to approach Po is when he's on the verge of giving up - in his own esoteric fashion, Oogway simply persuades Po to set aside his worries and focus on the present; to just keep trying.
2040 MatPat’s son: “Hello everyone welcome to Debunking theories the show where we debunk one of my father’s theories and for this episode we will be debunking his life”
@Vitul Srivastava Kung Fu Panda: Secrets Of The Scroll It’s more of a short film connected to the Kung Fu Panda trilogy. I believe it’s also canon, but I may be wrong.
I feel like MatPat may have missed the part where Po getting body shamed isn't perpetuating anything since it's solely in place to allow Po to break down those stereotypes as part of the movies encouraging message :P
@Duck Destroyer True people can have a heavy body type but it shouldn't come at the risk of health problems. A lot of fighters have heavier body like Po but not at he expense of their own health.
Exactly! Any time Po was made fun of for his weight it was always shown as negative trait of the person insulting him. Him proving them wrong helps to break down sterotypes and allows for other characters to grow
That's what I always thought too and especially with the second movie saying that pandas are peaceful and even saved oogeway once. Plus, the fact that he is the son of the leader, kinda of takes us back to Disney when they try to give almost every royal leader or tribal leader or such's child, their destiny to be the hero in the story. In addition to his kindness, to me if oogeway would have picked tigress to me, she would end up just like Tai lung just because there is possible darkness in her heart (Envy, Jealousy)
One of the best things about the kung fu panda movies are that the characters actually pronounce the chinese words right like how they would sound in chinese.
As a lifelong martial artist, I really really appreciate that the Theorists bring up that martial arts has so many sub categories like how kung fu (gung fu) is a over arching name for the plethora of Chinese martial arts of that type. Ugh! You have my deep thanks for that.
It was my understanding that "Gung Fu" was a broad term for "skill" or "cultivated ability" -- so it not only applies to the martial arts but to any profession or practice that requires focus & dedication to achieve high skill levels. Therefore, an accomplished gourmet chef or a virtuoso musician can be said to possess "Gung Fu" as much as a martial arts master. There's a scene in the (admittedly wretched) sci-fi movie "The Core" where the "l33t haxxor" character (the young guy who apparently subsists entirely on Hot Pockets) is running cyber interference for the top secret Core operation by shutting down all attempts to hack into its computer network & electronic records. After blocking yet another intrusion attempt, the hacker smirks & remarks, "Your kung fu ... is not strong enough." The comment works on multiple levels when U realize that the character may indeed see himself as a cyberwarrior locked in a battle against all attackers, but he may also understand the true meaning of "Gung Fu" & what he is doing is as much a contest of who possesses the superior knowledge of cybersecurity, hacking techniques & countermeasures.
@30noir All of them, including Po, did do the hard work & training required to at least GIT GOOD IIRC, so I don`t see any problem with the message of `believe in yourself` because they didn`t ignore the fact that training is a big aspect too & well... the message *is* right. But I do see why a martial artist can have problem with movie, the `chosen one` & `let universe do its job & go with the flow yo` thing is something even I dislike (BTW I don`t think someone`s nationality is gonna give em a confidence boost :P)
Not to mention the fact that Chinese dragons are thought to feature parts from other animals like a lions mane and a birds claws, if he was really practicing all the furious fives styles of kung fu it’s plausible that he accidentally mixed them together into his own unique style that is a combination of all of the different animals, just like a dragon
I love that Po getting adopted by his goose Dad that feeds him as much dumplings and noodle soup as possible factors into his becoming the Dragon Warrior lol
old Matpat videos remind me of loving teachers that want to make learning more enjoyable and fun by putting jokes into the lessons that the kids may enjoy.
I think the animators did that on purpose, make Po bigger than the others to make him stand out a bit more. The other kung fu warriors are way more lean and thin, while the normal animals are as big as Po. So, I think they must have made him like that on purpose.
I mean the third movie quite clearly states that the pandas had the highest levels of chi and well as the greatest potentials so it’s not hard to see why Po was considered the dragon warrior, especially since it was assumed the po was the last of the pandas. It was actually the pandas that taught oogway chi.
@10RexTheWolf01 well no if everyone else didnt learn kung fu and it was only oogway that knew it the valley of peace wpuld have no protection except oogway which would lead to it being overrun then no furious five to protect the valley until po was chosen as the deagon warrior as he is both sides of the yin and yang qnd oogways successor
@10RexTheWolf01 Technically no. The furious five was trained by Shi Fu, but they are only an elite group of fighters that exist in the series. In the tv show spin off (which is canon to its movie counterpart) the Furious Five always existed, even before the current members. Shi Fu I believe was also part of the previous Furious 5. It was only Tigress that actually wanted to be the Dragon Warrior due to the fact that she believed it was the only way for Shi Fu to approve of him since he was still suffering from what happened with Tai Lung. Oogway stated that when he saw Po, he saw the future of Kung Fu and the Past (since he trained with the Pandas). The title of Dragon Warrior is basically chosen by the universe since Po was not the original Dragon Warrior. Oogway didnt only choose the Dragon Warrior, he chose a successor, someone to balance the Yin and Yang.
This is literally retroactive continuity though. In the first movie it’s pretty clearly explained that there’s nothing particularly special about becoming the dragon warrior. Matpat’s theory explains pretty nicely in the context of the original movie why Po makes for the best dragon warrior beyond simple coincidence and I think that’s the point if this video. The most chi related thing he does in the whole movie is the Wuxi Finger Hold and personally I’d argue it wasn’t even necessary because he had Tai Lung on the ropes before he even decides to use it on him.
@Tramvis But at the same time it showed everyone just wasted their time for nothing. Tigress, Tai Lung neither one of them was gonna get it. I see why Po is chosen but it really puts a big damper on those who wanted and were just not gonna get it because they weren't the correct person or in this case animal. The message of the first vid is to believe in yourself but that doesn't matter unless you're a panda. Good for Po but lousy to everyone else.
3:10 Most were skeptical of Po being the dragon warrior... that actually include Po himself... cause in the first movie, he admits that if anyone who can make him "not him", it would be the greatest kung fu teacher (shifu), he does this while pointing to his stomach
Number 3: Why do all the animals in the show have CREEPY HUMAN TEETH? This question is hilarious, honestly I think it's cool that the creators of the movie made the characters very detailed including small features like their well teeth or facial features
I think the way you articulated your points in the video was phenomenal. I also like the video references and insight you gave to these clips. Overall great podcast
I heard a explanation to why po is the dragon warrior. It is because of Daoism which relates to yin and yang. In what I remember daoism explains that the both opposite side work together in harmony meaning it's fate. In that explanation it was said that Oogway explained to Shifu with the example of seeds. Shifu believes in Confucianism in which simply by strict guidance and etc you'll achieve what you what like your kids if you put them on strict guidance they'll follow you like my parents do but anyway the topic goes like this "You can't make a peach seed an apple tree if it's destined to be a peach" meaning Oogway just lead it to destiny. Basically he depend the fate of the whole nation to destiny. Meaning when he pointed his finger and it pointed on Po he knew it was destiny that lead Po infront of him
Repent to Jesus Christ “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:23-24 NIV F
It is true body type does not equal ability. Like I have always been skinny with long legs. Most people assume I am a good runner and have told me as much....more than once. Teachers, family, friends all thought this at one point. I have never won a single ribbon in track and field for anything, especially not running and I started in grade 1. I am in my twenties now and you can still outrun me without trying, I am not a runner and never have been.
While watching this theory I noticed something in the body type section, which he got mostly correct. Other than one single attribute: speed. Like he said in the boxing example, force is mass x acceleration but we can actually re-position this equation so it’s acceleration is force divided by mass. Therefore, the more mass you have the harder it is to accelerate, a key component of any Solely running based sport.
3:33 but they are martial artist ,not your regular fighter. We can see that being physically more powerful won't guarantee you a win when Tai Long easily defeated those enormous Rhinos guarding his cell with just his techniques alone. In the movie, martial artist fight with their techniques instead of brute force.
There’s this video by Xiran Jay Zhao who interpreted the movie as a Daoist vs Confucianism kind of movie. It’s really interesting and serves as another reason why Po was chosen.
I got to learn about the creation of Kung Fu Panda. I want to introduce you guys to Grandmaster Chi-Chung “Simon” Kwong. He is one of the top traditional Chinese masters in North America. I was very lucky to have gotten to train under one of his students. He actually ran a Chinese restaurant for years when my teacher was younger and yes his food is absolutely amazing! Master Simon taught Dragon Tiger Eagle Wushu Kung fu. When talking about yin and Yang it stands for complete opposites and how they are even in the world. Push and pull, good and bad. Po shows he can be both focused and fun, lazy yet a hard worker. He’s a perfect student! Another fun fact! Master Simon’s son actually helped create Kung Fu Panda.
Here’s a video of master Simon actually! In this video he was hit, multiple times, in the gut by this solid led bar. We got random people watching to swing at him. He laughed. He broke a metal fold up chair with a flimsy plastic water bottles that come in a pack. He’s a wonderful man and I wanted to let you guys know about him. Also, Avatar the Last Air Bender is pretty accurate as well! m.kzclip.org/video/87RkxESjmfs/бейне.html
Steph: Your dad is working, I`ll show you his new video on KZclip once it`s finished, then you'll get it son. a few weeks later Matt`s son`s phone: Hello internet, WELCOME TO *FILM* / *GAME* / *FOOD* / *WHATEVER NEW CHANNEL HE STARTS* THEORY! Matpat`s son: DAAAAAAAAAD! Matpat: Yea my boy? Matpat`s son: *Shows irrefutable evidence debunking Matpat`s new theory* See? Matpat: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!
Big bodied master fighter is already a cliche or stereotype in Chinese novels. There's a saying "Big build never fail" (roughly transtlated). A lot of martial arts styles actually looks dumb but strikes lethal, which is exactly why you don't see them often in movies...because they looks dumb in fighting. Not so dumb when you die tho.
The funny part is chi is an achievable concept. Even I taught myself Kung Fu when I was younger. I got deeply into Chinese culture. Even going so far as to teach myself how to use chopsticks something I thought I'd never do.
@Aidan Keogh It's strange sometimes. One can write intelligent, witty comments that explain in detail how to build a cold fusion reactor for less than 500 bucks and get one like or two, while I've once got 7.000+ likes for a silly one liner that basically made no sense at all.
Oogway choose Po because he was a panda ( oogway's past )and he also love Kung fu . Basically he connect both the power of chi and kung fu . Rest , Oogway was also kinda divine ,who knew future
You are forgetting Oogway could predict and maybe see the future, he just saw that po would land in front of him and he just knew to pick him, also at the end of the third movie Oogway says he saw greatness in him the first day they met.
The real reason he's the chosen one was always really because of his dedication. He gets beat down harder than anyone else while being told he's a failure yet the next day, he still shows up. That takes spine. That's the moral of the story
Also, Po is the only other different animal in the whole village. So, if the dragon warrior wasn't gonna be any of the five, it was probably gonna be Po. After all, would Oogway really pick some random rabbit to be the dragon warrior? Well, actually probably.
So basically, if any one of you watched the “Kung Fu Panda: Secrets Of The Scroll”, it is confirmed that Po accidentally created the team. Watch the movie if you want to know why
body type really does matter for all those physical things. boxing and fighting generally is basically the only sport you can get away being overweight in
The main reason Po is the chosen one because he has main character syndrome Also the main reason pandas exist is because they were the only one who could stop bamboo from over growing. That is until humans decided to use bamboo to make houses
I can answer the third question! Why do the animals have human teeth? Animators anthropomorphize animals to make them more appealing and relatable to children. Making them walk on two legs, having them eat human foods, or having human emotions and yes, teeth all play into that. It makes the kid imagine themselves inside the movie, fighting all the baddies and saving the day just like our panda warrior :)
Another theory I have is that EVERY SINGLE kung fu warrior in the series seems unable to accept that the Dragon Scroll was NOTHING. Tai lung, the furious five, Shifu himself! Po, having had been living a life where his self esteem was at the bottom of the Jade Palace's stairs, when he realized that he was enough without some mystic power, it threw everyone off. All of these points can be applied, but Po, being literally the bottom of everything, was inspired by the fact that Oogway chose HIM, over every Pig, duck, and tiger in the valley, as enough to defeat the deadliest kung fu warrior in history, that he up and did it.
I watched a theory in Spanish that said Oogway was the bad guy all along, because if we analize the situation and Oogway said that "accidents do not exist" then every single thing that happened could have been planned. The YT Channel's name is "El Mundo de Zowl" it has great theories about a lot of movies
Po, was also raised by a duck. His high reaction speed comes as a learned behavior. Making him more comfortable and dangerous to his opponents later in the series.
Mr. Ping is a goose though.
K2
His belly.
*goose, not duck
Plus, he was a fan of Kung Fu before learning Kung Fu.
Po has greater durabality and can survive well most of the times very high damage as seen with Tai Lung
He was just trying to get into the stadium.
@Leon Müller ah yes comparing masters of a craft to an inexperienced buffoon
But that is normal for every Kung Fu fighter in Kung Fu Panda. The other 5 arguably do it even more than Po.
@Lauren Yau so shifu’s name is master master?
@Alex Zero I understand that he wasn’t dedicated to training but I would imagine training kung fu is hard but that doesn’t mean he didn’t love it Through the movies And shorts it was hinted that he fell in love with it
@Alex Zero Agreed but you didn’t answer my first question
@Jake Tane he d never left voluntary, because he was a fan.
@Alex Zero if he wasn’t dedicated how did he ever became the Dragon warrior? He could’ve left anytime he wanted to but no he didn’t
And what makes this even more poetic is that Po is the one who originally, “accidentally”, assembled the Furious Five without any of them realizing it. It was a self fulfilling prophecy, he set himself up to eventually become the Dragon Warrior. It was always meant to be him.
POEtic lol
🤣
We p PM😅
Nah bro mantis bigger than po😅😅
Lol
So funny😂
Round of applause for Mr Ping unknowingly giving his son the food that was gonna help him with his dreams when he first found him.
“Why was Po the chosen one?”
This question is answered in the third movie. The panda species helped heal Oogway when he was hurt. They also trained him on how to use chi. When Oogway saw Po land into the stadium, he remembered the potential of pandas and his relationship with them. So, he picks Po as the Dragon Warrior.
no..... its cuz he's old and has poor judgement
@kafilat Afolabi 😂
@Jo you obviously didn’t watch the second one.
That's pretty fing biased.
@Ryan Nguyen it was definitely not bad
9:55 it is like iroh once said: "It is important to draw wisdom from many different places. If you take it from only one place, it become rigid and stale. Understanding others, the other elements, and the other nations, will help you become whole."
I love that quote.
Ok
@CreeperkingHT hilarity replying to old comment :trolg:
@Woink It's the style that the Tibetan Monks use, since the Airbenders are inspired from their culture
everywhere I go i see his face
*Pans to uncle iroh quote*
The dragon warrior was always supposed to be a panda. Oogway was just waiting for one to show up. And he did! In the most Macho way possible. Riding a chair with fireworks strapped under him right in the middle of the choosing.
Or a dragon
El Chaco by Vo memes
@MovieFan1912 El macho
That sounds like a line from Despicable Me 2.
The fact that all of these details from the movie line up so perfectly to explain exactly why Po was the only one who could be the Dragon Warrior is so amazing and precise that I honestly think there’s no way the people working on this movie didn’t do that on purpose
@Alex Zero ... now hear me out.
Nope. Actually it's a mind trap, you hear good speech from self-assured guy, you believe it, and that's what makes you think that this theory is real deal. Mat Pat could make you believe in everything, like time travel in Titanic.

@purple_helix I don't think tai lung hates pandas, he just hates po although Kai probably hates pandas
man you're a genius!!!
@karl0331 Hes the villain from the 2nd film.
Thai lung and kai to
True-
The line where PO says "but it could never hurt more than it did every day of my life just being me" as someone who still has issues with body image, this hit so hard.
Stag - Mantis
Lion/Tiger - Tigress
Snake - Viper
Eagle - Crane
Fish - Monkey (😂)
@G I'm really bad at naming things I think what he means is that back in the feudal era, when Europeans saw the bones of dinosaurs, they thought they were dragons. This kind of thinking would eventually end in the 19th century when the term "dinosaur" would come to pass. Also it is not the first time skeletal remains were turned into something else, the ancient Greeks also thought mammoth skulls were the skulls of the mythical cyclops and that is where we get that story from.
@Chunky boi P U N C T U A T I O N
"Quit. Don't quit. Noodles. Don't noodles." ~ Master Oogway
@Zindhu Zanjo ☠
Tmrw is a chore, that's why they call it fuchore.
-niga
In Russian its like “Past is forgotten, future is closed, and the present is a gift”
Basically the same
"It perpetuates false stereotypes about how a fighting body has to be" Isn't the whole point of the movie that you don't have to be thin and built to fight?
He only was talking about the scene where they were judging Po cuz he got chosen as the dragon warrior. He wasn’t talking about the entire movie
@Mini Zem no, it isn't
This is probably one of my favorite film theories. As fun as ‘the dark truth’ ones are I like the more fun and light hearted ones better.
Oogway: *sees Po fall from 1,000 feet in the sky* Holy crap, that was awesome! Forget the Furious Five, this panda is indestructible!
one of the key adjectives in KFP is ‘awesome’ I can see Oogway actually saying that
He is too thicc to get hurt.
@A fairly boring female Yes. Fall damage is not a thing in Kung fu Panda.
@Leon Müller So basically all of them are immune to fall damage?
@gaming name here: Huh?
Matt: Why is po the chosen one? Because China can make loads of cash.
China’s agents: *HE KNOWS*
Would you like to join legion
@Alisa Martinez “cut his mic he knows to much reeee-“
@Vijay Patil no one thinks they did, it's a joke and you ruined an amusing thread
China Agents: call the m.i.b
China's agents: He knows to much...
I've always seen Po's passion/fanboyness to Kung fu as his strength. Nobody in the movie was as passionate and excited as him.
fighting is all about learning yourself and others.
When he deflects the cannon ball in the second movie he literally spins in the shape of a yin yang
He is ying and yang ☯️
Ye cause the prophecy
Hey Matpat I would like to say thank you for being on the internet for the last few years. You have been able to give light to answering questions that the general public and social media want answers to about media, video games, and movies. You're videos are helping those who want answers. So again, thank you.
I’ve always had this question: If Po never landed in front of Oogway would he still become the dragon warrior or would one of the furious five become the dragon warrior. Or would Oogway walk past all of them go outside the Jade Palace and still select Po to be the Dragon Warrior
THERE ARE NO ACCIDENTS. magic and fate are Real in this universe, and Nnot in a hypothetical way.
Oogway would have gave them the same answer he gave snow tiger. Sorry try again next year.
First:Oogway would have said they are not ready
Second:Poo was destined to be there, cause there are no accidents
My whole life my reasoning for Oogway choosing Po to be the dragon warrior was the fact that he was so determined to enter the jade palace that he was willing to blow himself over the giant wall with fireworks. His determination is what impressed Oogway. But let's say he never succeeded. He would probably choose one of the furious five (preferably tigress) because Po never went over that wall, therefore he never got to 'prove his determination' I guess.
"mAsTer oOgWaY wHeRe aRe yOu gOinG??"
Oogway could’ve also seen that Po is immune to Tai Lung’s paralyzation attack, while literally no one else was
2040 MatPat’s son: “Hello everyone welcome to Debunking theories the show where we debunk one of my father’s theories and for this episode we will be debunking his life”
"Was MatPat REAL? An IRL Theory!"
If you think about it Po is also the reason why the furious five got together in the first place.
@The Anti-Angel ok thanks
@Vitul Srivastava
Kung Fu Panda: Secrets Of The Scroll
It’s more of a short film connected to the Kung Fu Panda trilogy. I believe it’s also canon, but I may be wrong.
@The Anti-Angel could you please elaborate which movie?
@Vitul Srivastava
a few years prior to the main storyline
@The Anti-Angel man, when did this happen?
I feel like MatPat may have missed the part where Po getting body shamed isn't perpetuating anything since it's solely in place to allow Po to break down those stereotypes as part of the movies encouraging message :P
What that being near death is ok
@Blank I agree
@Ebiegberi Adonkie ? then why are you watching it?
Po has a good heart and that is what makes him worthy
@Nadia Rahman Now I wanna see an au of that
He genuinely loves kung-fu
True that. Po is also kind and knows how to lease with others, as shown a lot in the legends of awesomeness series
“We tried. The pandas just _really_ wanted to die. We couldn’t save them. This is the last artifact of human culture that verifies their existence”
Man, oogway was really intelligent. He knew that Tai Lung's muscle paralysing move wont work on Po. That's some chad move right there.
One of the best things about the kung fu panda movies are that the characters actually pronounce the chinese words right like how they would sound in chinese.
wow matpat, I didn't know you could make a video that, not only was for a movie, but outright made it better without changing any core themes
@Anthon Hernandez MUAY THAI!!!
@Anthon Hernandez I train with avatar aang 😎
I always wanted to martial arts
I love how he makes science sound easy to understand
@10RexTheWolf01 no it means he chose him because he figured po would be really good at chi which is a rlly high level of kung fu in their universe
3:10 Most were skeptical of Po being the dragon warrior... that actually include Po himself... cause in the first movie, he admits that if anyone who can make him "not him", it would be the greatest kung fu teacher (shifu), he does this while pointing to his stomach
MatPat actually just killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Analyzing Po and explaining the Furious Five.
I love your videos! I always get a laugh out of them and you are a great video creator matpat!
I really like these more science-y episodes. They're a lot of fun!
Number 3: Why do all the animals in the show have CREEPY HUMAN TEETH?
This question is hilarious, honestly I think it's cool that the creators of the movie made the characters very detailed including small features like their well teeth or facial features
MatPat: "It's not really explained in the movies."
Also MatPat: *shows a scene explaining it from the third movie*
Maki Harukawa Waifu candidate 👌 since best girl keeps kicking the bucket lmao
Maki Harukawa oof, well I haven't seen much yet but I do enjoy his character.
Maki Harukawa Haha yeah. But I've kinda been spoiled on the first case already lol. As usual our protags have an ahoge.
XD
Maki Harukawa Not watch, I played the games a couple years ago but only the first two. I've seen some friends play V3 but haven't tried it myself yet.
MatPat: Why is po the dragon warrior?
Shifu: Finally someone explains it to me
I think the way you articulated your points in the video was phenomenal.
Shifu believes in Confucianism in which simply by strict guidance and etc you'll achieve what you what like your kids if you put them on strict guidance they'll follow you like my parents do but anyway the topic goes like this
"You can't make a peach seed an apple tree if it's destined to be a peach" meaning Oogway just lead it to destiny. Basically he depend the fate of the whole nation to destiny. Meaning when he pointed his finger and it pointed on Po he knew it was destiny that lead Po infront of him
MatPat is making us feel good about our bodies. What a nice guy
@Grandalf that’s so sad, I’d rather feel good about my body and be confident and die an earlier death
@Grandalf bro, ow. I'm trying here
I’d rather be ashamed than at a higher risk of disease, joint degradation, and an early death
Still everyone should be able to agree that having a healthier body is good
Idk why but the way Matpat says “per day” at 7:22 always makes me giggle
Imagine Oogway thought about all of this in the split second he raised his finger
i think that wut happened lol
Repent to Jesus Christ
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Psalms 139:23-24 NIV
F
He didn't think it, he just knew there was a reason he couldn't think about, he just believed
smart guy…respect
@Justice Graceful this is old but I think he did it so po could have a enemy so he could become aware and become the dragon warrior
Hot take: Matpat made my childhood better this time.
Another reason Po might have been chosen is because when he fell out of the sky, oogway might of thought it was a sign from the universe.
Man, the producers really did their research to make the movie
Started binge-watching the trilogy, GREAT TIME for some MatPat. Also, congratulations for your cub man!
It is true body type does not equal ability. Like I have always been skinny with long legs. Most people assume I am a good runner and have told me as much....more than once. Teachers, family, friends all thought this at one point. I have never won a single ribbon in track and field for anything, especially not running and I started in grade 1. I am in my twenties now and you can still outrun me without trying, I am not a runner and never have been.
can't wait for 2040 Matpat Jr debunking his dad's theories
Yes
Imagine lo😂
Haha lol
I heavily agree i would love to see EVERY video.
It’s really interesting and serves as another reason why Po was chosen.
i bet MatPat wrote really good research papers in college
The real question his son is gonna ask
“Mommy, why does daddy spend so much time talking to himself in the closet?”
Steph: Your dad is working, I`ll show you his new video on KZclip once it`s finished, then you'll get it son.
a few weeks later
Matt`s son`s phone: Hello internet, WELCOME TO *FILM* / *GAME* / *FOOD* / *WHATEVER NEW CHANNEL HE STARTS* THEORY!
Matpat`s son: DAAAAAAAAAD!
Matpat: Yea my boy?
Matpat`s son: *Shows irrefutable evidence debunking Matpat`s new theory* See?
Matpat: WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA?!
@Gamer's Theater do you not know about Stephanie and Oliver dude?
@Ben Vacco no he doesn’t
@Gamer's Theater you know he has a child… and a wife, right?
He’s not going to have a kid the closest thing to lover he has is Tigeress who is more over his sisterinarms or BFF
Legends know that the real reason Po was chosen as the Dragon warrior is because he *enjoys & loves kung fu*
I love how he takes things from movies and makes them logical.
The dragon scroll tells us, the secret to becoming the dragon warrior is inside us all along. Po is the dragon warrior because he believes he can be.
Did you know the five supporting characters are actually the real 5 fighting styles in Kung fu? The tiger, crane, mantis, snake and monkey
I love how we're happy for Matt and his son, even when we don't personally know him
Thats internet for you
I like to believe that pandas irl could become really crazy strong and deadly creatures but choose not to cause they don’t feel like it.
You could see all this if you just pay attention to the movies. Po actually never gets hurt by attacks to the belly in the whole trilogy.
The funny part is chi is an achievable concept. Even I taught myself Kung Fu when I was younger. I got deeply into Chinese culture. Even going so far as to teach myself how to use chopsticks something I thought I'd never do.
Who else despite not even watching Kung fu panda before, still was so intrigued by matpat
Finally a non childhood ruining theory and not just that but he is using every way to do what we want to here
Oogway: *literally tells Po in detail exactly why he chose him*
Matpat: LIES
@anoymouss duckling it's a joke he means that Mat Patt claims that was all lies
@kek dashy bro your troll game is weak. You need to work on it desperately because this was embarrassing
@Aidan Keogh It's strange sometimes. One can write intelligent, witty comments that explain in detail how to build a cold fusion reactor for less than 500 bucks and get one like or two, while I've once got 7.000+ likes for a silly one liner that basically made no sense at all.
@Ink is that what your parents said about you when you were born?
@kek dashy … that was unneeded and unwanted
I feel like one of my favorite quotes is relevant in this scenario. "It is the emptiness of a cup that makes it useful."
In the series it is shown that Po has a natural talent for learning kung fu techniques.
Matpat knows everything even about combat sports lol
The real reason he's the chosen one was always really because of his dedication. He gets beat down harder than anyone else while being told he's a failure yet the next day, he still shows up. That takes spine. That's the moral of the story
Someone give this man a theory oscar made out of chocalate
"I can do this all day" -Cap
But Oogway didn't know about his dedication. The first time he met Po was when he landed and he pointed at him straight away
Because he's the main character
And with a gut like that, he really needs one
You know what makes pandas more embarrassed than falling out of trees? The fact that a group of pandas is called an embarrassment! lol
Thanks for making me feel better about my body Matpat.👍
I gotta give it to the writers of the film, very original and amazingly well done!
I love this. I really think this is one of your best theories! And I love and watch all of your videos.
Also, Po is the only other different animal in the whole village. So, if the dragon warrior wasn't gonna be any of the five, it was probably gonna be Po. After all, would Oogway really pick some random rabbit to be the dragon warrior? Well, actually probably.
Everyone saw this but when Po broke the vase it’s souls leaked out and went into his body, giving him strength.
Had to be so he was so weak before
but he fixed it with tape, and im pretty sure the souls were still there
if you try and over complicate stuff you will never see the true meaning of it usually
i think that was just to be funny
wHat
So basically, if any one of you watched the “Kung Fu Panda: Secrets Of The Scroll”, it is confirmed that Po accidentally created the team. Watch the movie if you want to know why
body type really does matter for all those physical things. boxing and fighting generally is basically the only sport you can get away being overweight in
I'm glad Matpad isn't ruining any childhood this time.
Did you not watch the movie to see that the whole premise was that Po was proving anyone can fight no matter their body/who they are
The main reason Po is the chosen one because he has main character syndrome
Also the main reason pandas exist is because they were the only one who could stop bamboo from over growing.
Ok mr nerdstalgic
Mind boggin innit😮💂🏻🦷🎩
Gael Infante gefe
0-0 cool dude. cool.
oh ma gad
Matpat: "who doesn't love panda's?"
Me: snow leopards, peacocks.
And I'm scared of rabbits
Yes
Daniel Okpara Year 7 huh?
@Vijay Patil for a while, a praying mantis didn't like pandas
A very angry endangered species of red panda, a furious tiger, and.... Nah nevermind, the rest are pretty ok with him
Another theory I have is that EVERY SINGLE kung fu warrior in the series seems unable to accept that the Dragon Scroll was NOTHING.
Hmmmmmmm m 🤨🤨🤨
I watched a theory in Spanish that said Oogway was the bad guy all along, because if we analize the situation and Oogway said that "accidents do not exist" then every single thing that happened could have been planned.
The YT Channel's name is "El Mundo de Zowl" it has great theories about a lot of movies
