Aerosmith was actually on board with Dream On being sampled in it - Joe Perry recorded the original solo at the end of Sing for the Moment specifically for the song, and Steven Tyler performed the song with Eminem when Em was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It isn't the first time Aerosmith had bridged the gap between genres either, considering they helped Run-D.M.C. (one of Em's major influences) make their cover of Walk This Way. Em has never been shy about what music influenced him, and this is a good example of that.
