Notch is a genius and very respectful of this guy I hope that his life will work out but nevertheless it is a pity that he sold Minecraft because Minecraft in his time was the Original with a real atmosphere
I expected that. When he said "now it should work" I couldn't help but think "No way it's going to work on the first try. Something will definetily need fixing". When it comes to programming there are always things which are supposed to work but they don't work. Something always doesn't work which should work.
Once you write enough code, your fingers get used to the keys, they don't require you to constantly look at the keyboard, you just type with the flow. It's called muscle memory.
Kira Ah we have another 9 year old. Making games is just a small part of programming. Programing is making software, even if it is way simpler than Minecraft or games that you play, it is still software and you are still a (beginner) programmer.
Apparently no matter how good you get at programming, when you program there will always be things which don't work that should work. I am so accustomed to things like this happening that when he said "I will just change the code a little bit and it should work", my instinctive reaction was "yeah sure, no way it works on the first try". Programming is a constant process of fixing things which don't work even though you think they should work. Something always doesn't work.
Not sure if anyone in this comment use unity but this happened to me yesterday I was making a game(Kinda like a button clicker type game) and instead of using a void method, my dumb self used the IEnumerator method. Not sure if this relates to the comment nathan25 posted but it’s still funny.
@TwoMint "You guys don't know shit about him." "The news only talks about bad stuff because bad=more views." Do you live with him? The two statements I highlighted are contradictory. The second statement I quoted implies that you KNOW notch has done some good things. But anyway, I don't even remember anymore what Notch did, so I don't care if he is a good or a bad guy.
@Shade06 you guys dont know shit about him You will never know, you dont live with him The news only talk about the BAD stuff he did because bad = more views.
Notch is a genius and very respectful of this guy I hope that his life will work out but nevertheless it is a pity that he sold Minecraft because Minecraft in his time was the Original with a real atmosphere
i understand Notch now, he looks so happy making and changing his game, but when it became this popular he probably felt much pressure, and the awaiting responsibility, he quit. and damn did he have a good idea. i feel like it would be so fun to make something like minecraft
The three stages of a programmer: - "It would be a good idea to..." - "Now why isn't that working..." - "Okay no that wasn't a good idea." Bonus 4th stage: - "Yep. That crashed it."
damn I just found this video after all this years ... I remember when I was 13-14 watching this and thinking wow programming looks awesome I would like to do that. Right now it is my job, I guess I have to say thanks to Notch.
+ Romans 10:9-10 "That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. @OlekAleksander Starting with python is a good idea though after you learn other languages you start only using python for small projects because of the vest amount of libraries the languages has so It's good for small things like automation or web scraping.
I remember watching this video when I was 8.... Minecraft is the thing that got me into using computers, 9 years later and now I can program in 3 languages and just started to learn game making with unity. So I guess I can also say thanks to Notch for getting me to where I am.
yes which is the reason i got into programming, but i fear i might not have as much fun in the future when i get a programming job if god wills, id be stressed and not have fun
I created an mmo in 2013 and last year im sorta on the sidelines now due to not having the drive and fun to do it anymore. But, good thing is I have other passions now :)
@Jordan Ash Actually I think it’s the 2nd version, the first version had a curved surface where the keys are at but you can see that the keyboard has a tilted flat surface where the keys are on
@Toru the Red Fox I tought programmers do not type much these days :D I just type a few letters and hit tab. Usually when I try to go full speed mode I just type some shit code that I delete a few seconds later. My brain is not as fast as my fingers :D .
These types of things are humbling to see, because many people think that developers and modelers are these wizards and I mean, it's amazing he created this. But seeing him struggle and problem solve really helps show the process and the struggle is the same for everyone :D
2:33 "There we go, it should do something now, wow it didn't, why?... weird. Let's do this instead, okay that worked... yep, it crashed." - Every programmer ever at some point

@Robiovic True but this Kids have no experience so its possible that all their changes producing tons of new bugs. Coding isnt as easy as a lot if people say. Yeah its easy to learn a language but that doesnt mean that you are a good coder...
This video I remember watching when I was 13 and even bought the documentary and was so fascinated with the games impact. Nostalgic znd sad I wish I could go back in time and take it all in.

We must give an award to make the best game in the World. It's already 11 years, still, the best game in the World is Minecraft. I am Proud of you Legend Notch
if any of you see this comment, this man changed a lot of people lives with this one game. He was a god in a mans world for gaming. All to the highest respect to Notch and Jeb. They made the grounds to the game we all love and play till this day.

Exactly
this man coded my memories of minecraft
Like the sound of typing
exactly bro
He’s literally the creator of the game that defined a generation. Thank you Notch for the memories
It is just amazing how he did not just code a game... he coded an entire generation of people.
@yareku ngl fortnite at its start was fire
e
@vv uuuu
As a programmer, this was extremely satisfying to watch.
@Vali Zeth java
Not c++
@H3xad3cimal Dev Not really. Notch's original code was fine. It's mostly the new code.
same
same
I relate
"Now it should work! It's not working.. Why?"
Probably the most used sentence by any programmer
that happens with me lot
I expected that. When he said "now it should work" I couldn't help but think "No way it's going to work on the first try. Something will definetily need fixing".
When it comes to programming there are always things which are supposed to work but they don't work. Something always doesn't work which should work.
As a programmer, I confirm this comment
yeh
Notch is such a legend, he didn't even open stack overflow through the video
Yeah he is so amazing
Well, he was an experienced professional, I can tell you that much.
Lol
@Harambe yea, unfortunately
Notch is such a legend, he’s programming Minecraft with a letterless keyboard
Once you write enough code, your fingers get used to the keys, they don't require you to constantly look at the keyboard, you just type with the flow. It's called muscle memory.
@GodlyGhost boiler 🍽️
@GodlyGhost true, when I type public static void main string args, I don't even think lmao
@IRaKaNI_ yeah. I couldn't complain with that.
@Ryle CrafterYT who cares if he is racist but he is still legend
"... and i'm not entirely sure why"
The life of a coder, summed up in a single sentence.
I read this exactly when he said it. I swear it's happening a lot with me XD and possibly to those who read comments while watching the video.
Kira Ah we have another 9 year old. Making games is just a small part of programming. Programing is making software, even if it is way simpler than Minecraft or games that you play, it is still software and you are still a (beginner) programmer.
@ILoveAnime YES
I think he more aptly put "Yup... that crashed the game."
Notch: That isn't working... Hmm
*5 hours of him staring at the screen*
Notch: Oh its because I'm calling the wrong function
haha or when I sometimes make a backup file in visual studio code, and I dont realise I am doing changes to the backupfile instead of the mainfile :D
Not sure if anyone in this comment use unity but this happened to me yesterday
I was making a game(Kinda like a button clicker type game) and instead of using a void method, my dumb self used the IEnumerator method. Not sure if this relates to the comment nathan25 posted but it’s still funny.
3 hours to find out it was a damn typo
Good programmers don’t just google every problem
He actually passed the wrong argument into the function when he was experimenting with 5, then finally he passed 16.
He looks like a good guy, he should be successful one day.
@Sir Spongadoodle wait what
@TwoMint "You guys don't know shit about him."

3:18 The explosion was so powerful it even kills you in creative mode, nice.
Notch is a genius and very respectful of this guy I hope that his life will work out but nevertheless it is a pity that he sold Minecraft because Minecraft in his time was the Original with a real atmosphere
@DK4709 java only
@DK4709 Bedrock edition : IM FUCKING INVINCIBLE !!
@Lev Mikhov aren't u this? "🤡" Islamophobic kid
i understand Notch now, he looks so happy making and changing his game, but when it became this popular he probably felt much pressure, and the awaiting responsibility, he quit. and damn did he have a good idea. i feel like it would be so fun to make something like minecraft
@TheOSDude im interested in what you asked and what his response was
@TheOSDude woaw
@Володя Космический Twitter, also I contacted him there for some Java advice and he replied.
@ShadowBolt you can somewhat contact him through his Twitter
Marceloni what'd he do?
The three stages of a programmer:

- "Okay no that wasn't a good idea."
Bonus 4th stage:
- "Yep. That crashed it."
Every programmer:
"It's not working. But how?"
"It works! But how?"
Very true...
That and the Schroedinger's booleans are my favorite.
@Blade of the Ruined King at least he isn't a League of Legends player.
Well yes but actually yes
"Science isn't about why, it's about why not!"
“We need to have exploding arrows in the game”
*cries in full release*
What does that even have to do with this video(I didnt want to directly reply to it because it might be a bot that hacks account)
Does anyone know if there is a specific coding language that is used for the command block?
THOMAS THE GUY amazing o never thought exploding arrow can explode
Thank you for creating one of the best memories of my childhood.
Anant Tiwari I can respect that I just really like the game it's a game that goes in the history books for me
And he created one of the best games it's a fact not an opinion
@Ameerz graphics he not bro
now lets wait until an toxic roblox kid.
@yeah_but_whaa nah its kinda Nostalgic, and makes me want to go back 2012.
you gotta give him credit for making the game with a letterless keyboard.
imagine looking at the keyboard every time you type
@الإسلام دين الحق n o
roblox devs arent exactly the most humorous people
Mento PF i program in python lua and c# and i dont understand one bit of that joke

"We Need To Have Explosion Arrows"
-Notch, in the world of his dreams
He is notch. It's his game, he does what he wants
It's a pity that they weren't added
“We need to have exploding arrows”
*Y e s p l e a s e*
@Andr jsja N microsoft bought minecraft for 2.5billion but jeb still help with making minecraft tho
@Luciano Meira Jeb I'm the return of mojang
Not good fir our Laptop/PC's
̴̀͌̕ how did u
@Luciano Meira why the game has been run by that guy? :D
Most important thing about being a programmer is to *HAVE FUN*
yes which is the reason i got into programming, but i fear i might not have as much fun in the future when i get a programming job if god wills, id be stressed and not have fun
and to copy from stackoverflow
you get very mad when your code fails but when your code fixes itself you dont even question anything you just go with it lol
I created an mmo in 2013 and last year im sorta on the sidelines now due to not having the drive and fun to do it anymore. But, good thing is I have other passions now :)
3:34 just love how the guy walking across looks like he's been coding for 9 days without sleep.
the phantoms are after him
The most satisfying thing to hear is hearing the keyboard sound
@Jordan Ash Actually I think it’s the 2nd version, the first version had a curved surface where the keys are at but you can see that the keyboard has a tilted flat surface where the keys are on
@just a boy u mad or sum?
ye
@الإسلام دين الحق wdym?
i like how he's coding minecraft. the keyboard clicking is satisfying
I agree
Notch: **Creates minecraft**
Microsoft: *How much..?*
@Aisho MICROSOFT DIDN'T EVEN LET NOTCH CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF MINECRAFTS BIRTHDAY
there is no price for my childhood
Notch:4.5Billion
even notch has unlicensed version
He was opening the game directly via the source code so he didnt need to put in account details so he didnt
Bruh
Indeed!
so he can test out stuff instead of it on the real game
Lol yes
Every programmer: *has a keyboard with keys that actually say what they are*
Notch *uses a keyboard with no letters to identify a key*
@nikos467 eh for me I write familer code fast such as movement or combat however for experimental code i write slow
@Unë jam ai the only words programmers type fast are their variables their functions and the data types. Thats what i write fast as a programmer.
@nikos467 eh not really we usually write fast then test then debug
@Šimon Gido prediction is eh
@Toru the Red Fox I tought programmers do not type much these days :D I just type a few letters and hit tab. Usually when I try to go full speed mode I just type some shit code that I delete a few seconds later. My brain is not as fast as my fingers :D .
I really liked those cloud effects when he'd fly in creative mode, wish he could keep that feature
If you know how to use commands it's pretty easy to replicate that.
Can't believe Minecraft was developed with Win7, Eclipse & good old java.
Tools don't really matter
Try to use this as a motivation developers :)
See, notch himself is running into errors.
So never give up!
@Bakiciciteye _ you know, different personalities
@Aaaa but why?
@Rising Darkness Not anymore, taking an education right now where we are doing programming so I do other things instead of ROBLOX!
@Pattech roblox? I bet you are coding in roblox studio. If so then i want to welcome you brother!
Thanks! :)
Just seeing how much fun it was for him to do something as simple as an exploding arrow makes me more and more determined to learn programming
@الإسلام دين الحق stop sending links
The only game that was amazing, then became hated and memed on but today we all nostalgia on it
@Black beast not the best but one of the best
@Jim Mea Yeah and I'm happy the comment didn't age well because Minecraft is one of the greatest if not the greatest video games ever made!
this comment hasnt aged so well has it because minecraft has risen from the dead
And now famous again lol
i started playing in 2010, played for a day, then stopped, until last year, then i started again, and now it's my favorite game of all time.
Who could think that Minecraft is gonna be nostalgic one day
@MrSalty not a joke
The Minecraft Music Background(Piano) when your playing the game makes it Nostalgia to me, makes me want to go to 2012.
@Billy r/woosh
DOGU PERINCEK
DOGU PERINCEK
Just imagine being a notches level and just being able to change anything you wanted in minecraft in a blink of an eye.
What do you expect, he is notch, God of Minecraft ❤️
Feinster Virginia Hey look! White is showing me that cool vent trick-
Wait
Feinster Virginia Yellow was not The Impostor
1 Impostor remains
This man Notch made a game where people made careers out of... literal legend.
I think this was the video that got me into programming when I was young. Now studying computer engineering.
Thanks.
These types of things are humbling to see, because many people think that developers and modelers are these wizards and I mean, it's amazing he created this.
But seeing him struggle and problem solve really helps show the process and the struggle is the same for everyone :D
2018 and still waiting for exploding arrows
2022 still waiting for exploding arrows
2021!
2021: we still waiting
@OualidBro. C no you can't code anything with commands
2020 i'm still waiting
Just imagining that this guy did my whole childhood...
We love you Notch !
You have made one of the best games of all the time !
Respect
Loyalty
I love how Notch is having tons of fun and laughing while debugging and Jeb is just like: 😒
notch is like the bob ross of our time, he is calm and he made our childhood
@Harriet Tubman racist or not, the guy made my childhood so i respect him no matter what he does
He believes in straight pride, and is transphobic.
This reply chain was a dumpster fire
ShadowBolt mk
This is so nostalgic! I have goose bumps everywhere, and I'm crying for some reason.
2:33 "There we go, it should do something now, wow it didn't, why?... weird. Let's do this instead, okay that worked... yep, it crashed."
- Every programmer ever at some point
@That Guy they always work the same, cause you're using the same concept.
!= false and
== true and
== !false are all the same
@That Guy I don't use Javascript, I'm sorry, In Java it's 2 equals, but I guess in this case Java and Javascript are the same except for syntax.
Doing
Variable == true or
Variable != false is the same thing, denying a fact two times makes it affirmative:
"I will be coming to the party"
Is equals to
"I won't not be coming to the party"
Just a grammar example to explain it better
jaquino94 well, not really the fun part xD.
Debugging sometimes can be so frutrating
my motto is "just throw variables at it until it works"
Giancarlo Cipra real asf
It's mind-boggling how the #1 highest selling game was made on a free IDE that anyone can download.
Its pretty nostalgic seeing notch before he sold minecraft. It makes me think of the good old days.
By improving the skeletons' aim in this video, he made milions of players cry.
That man is my hero, he made all my childhood
Dear Notch,
Thank you so much for making one of the best games in history and making my childhood better. And I appreciate it. Thank you 😊
Sincerely, Awesome Khan
This is coding... every little change makes like 300 bugs for you to fix
@Robiovic True but this Kids have no experience so its possible that all their changes producing tons of new bugs. Coding isnt as easy as a lot if people say. Yeah its easy to learn a language but that doesnt mean that you are a good coder...
only if your code is garbage from the ground. Then yes, every little change will cause disaster.
Sans * IKR
This dude made my childhood so much better
This video I remember watching when I was 13 and even bought the documentary and was so fascinated with the games impact. Nostalgic znd sad I wish I could go back in time and take it all in.
I still can't believe he made such a great game just in Java this guy is so talented
His smile when he is saying "It is very effecient"
When was that?
*this man coded my childhood*
Notch changing shit in minutes faster than mojang could do it in months
who loves notch
+JakeTheBake Mojang can do the same, but they probably contemplate on whether or not they want to introduce it to the public, it really isn't that difficult to change things once you have all the basic methods used to render and create things.
That's because their office has a mini fridge and a pool table ;)
Thanks Notch for making a game i've been enjoying since late 2011
I remember watching the whole documentary back in 2013. It was so simple back then.Time flies so fast that my childhood flew away so quickly.
Watching this video as a kid got me interested in coding. I now work at Amazon as a software engineer. Thanks for the inspiration notch
Notch can defeat herobrine with all his creation and programs and literally made a bow even more stronger……
Absolutely the same, I started coding thanks to Minecraft and watching Notch twitch series on dev-vlogs, now about to start a uni career in CS
He abandoned this vessel but he was a damn good lad. Thanks for making my childhood.
Notch should be really proud of what he created.
So, this legend sold his legend to another unworthy legend.
True.....microsoft ruined minecraft.....
Real mature name.
Real mature.
Poo
Demon Diamond xD
So satisfying watching Notch and his godlike coding abilities
The man who made my childhood.
More like The Man Who CODED it.
This is a story that everyone needs to follow, you don't need a team to create an amazing game, you could make one of the best games by your own. Take Notch as an example, started by his own and created one of the most famous games ever, and now he has a whole team to help him.
This little room has created childhood memories for millions and millions of kids, thank you Notch
This man was our childhood hero, if anything he most likely inspired millions
LOL he makes coding look so easy
Coding is easy, but programming and solving problems in your code is hard, that is why programming is in such a hign demand.
@stop I actually fucking heavily agree, pure lua by itself is garbage tho
@Chappie its official, but it's a markup language, it's in the name
It’s easy after a while
Well, if you've done it for a while, it gets easy. After all, it's basically just telling something to do something else over and over again (kinda)
Look at the Joy of this man! He loves his game! Or loved past tense of course, now the corporation stripped his name from the game entirely
I miss him...
My favourite part about looking at the code is pretending I understand what is going on,
As an aspiring Indie game dev(more of a hobbyist), Minecraft has had a HUGE influence on me, I'm currently working on
building a Minecraft style game in Unity as an exercise, and it's amazing what goes on under the hood of this game. Thanks Notch!
Minecraft’s success today wouldn’t have existed without notch and his first co-workers in the end.
3 years ago: I wanna someday code like him...
today: printf("hello world")
@MASS BlaBla nope lol, I wanted to use printf not println…
@Frostyy YT what programming language?
@Joey Merryfield | CamiXes system.out.println
@gap it's Java not JavaScript, even the first name was Mocha
@Wet Humpback println* not printf
Thank you Notch for making Minecraft. I love ya so much
I have watched this video a million times. I can't stop. This is the best video on youtube and I really don't know why.
Update (October 2022): I've seen it 2 million times now.

eu assisti esse vídeo inteiro quando era criança kkkk gostava de ver ele mexendo no próprio jogo.
This is notch in his happy place, coding.
Not being famous. Just coding what he loves.
Beautiful.
Much respect for him.
You can genuinely see how passionate he is
We must give an award to make the best game in the World. It's already 11 years, still, the best game in the World is Minecraft. I am Proud of you Legend Notch
You've made so many of us so happy i hope that you can realize that lol
He really doesnt look like he is having fun coding
He has fun building our childhood and probably a huge part of our life and memories
5 years later, still no exploding arrows
gud
Obsidian arrows too then, then let's add terraria
6 years
How funny is notch came out with exploding arrow idea while thinking how to make creeper ability😂
This guy is the reason my childhood is a thing
I LOVE how he made a mistake and didn't know exactly what was going on... this is true programming and its nice seeing it from a huge game developer!
This game looks like its gonna be great cant wait
I love how he smiles while coding. He really likes it
if any of you see this comment, this man changed a lot of people lives with this one game. He was a god in a mans world for gaming. All to the highest respect to Notch and Jeb. They made the grounds to the game we all love and play till this day.
Wow he is a good game programmer
Duh he's awesome
When I was kid I always replay this video because I got satisfied on notch keyboard noise lol
It’s called a Das Keyboard Ultimate and yeah the noises are satisfying af
Volsraphel i don't think asmr entirely relates to satisfaction, asmr is supposed to make you feel tingling or something like that, not eargasm
Krakky yea there called mechanical keyboards it’s really cool
you'd like asmr
It’s krazy because I remember really watching this younger it sparked me to become a game designer 💯❤️ and I still will continue that dream
Love him or hate him, he changed the world.
"I'm not entirely sure why..."
This the moto of a programmer.
this guy is such a legend
How to make a game go viral!
Step 1 : learn how to code
Step 2 : make your game different form the rest
Step 3 : fuck around with code
Step 4 : PROFIT
CS student, although most of the programming is self-taught.
Stipe Mandarić no one takes classes
Acrid How did you start? Self taught or took classes?
I have 5 years of C/C++ experience, and you can't just "make a game"
MadHatter AA
This man singlehandedly coded the childhoods of millennials, gen-z, Gen alpha, and future generations
Notch is one of 20 programmers who actually use a light theme.
Eclipse is default with light theme. You can get a dark theme from marketplace.
And (probably) still uses eclipse.
There is something so oddly satisfying to watch notch code
This guys pretty good at coding, he should make a videogame!!
