You just don't have to upgrade every year, if you upgrade every 3rd year, it would be reasonable. Every 4th year even. I have an s20 and I'm still fine. Might upgrade on the next one. But if you have S21 and S22, not much difference.
my guy its better that they release every year because they aren't forcing you to buy them it just gives you the ability to buy the latest tech whenever you want
Instead people can stop buying every year. I buy every 2-3 years and still don't see much difference. I upgraded from s10 to s22 and there really isn't much of a difference.
Would love to see a comparison video of the s20ultra, s21ultra, s22 ultra and s23ultra to see how much they have actually improved over the last few years
@Don't Believe Me Just Watch if anyone thinks you're soft or that you look soft because of the color of your phone, then they are the problem. Purple is my favorite color and if there is a purple option, that will be my phone everytime. My purple s23 should be here in 2 days.. GO AHEAD get the green one and if thats not enough, go crazy and get you a sopiguard or dbrand skin and do whachu like! Have fun and NJoy yourself and don't sweat the small stuff. Peace and love to you and everybody in here 🤞🏽🕶️💜
@kintsugi TTV no, Apple's phones work flawlessly. This new flagship can not even switch lenses without stuttering. And it's the same exact phone for 4 consecutive years.
I purchased the S22 ultra last year after having the galaxy s8 for almost 6 years. I am blown away, and still blown away by the quality of the phone, and the cameras. My coworkers are constantly blown away by the performance of the cameras. I hope to get another 5 years out of this phone, and I am sure I will. Awesome job Samsung!
I updated my S10+ for the S23 Ultra. Of course a major difference is the camera, but it has taken me over two weeks to notice a real difference between the two. Of course it's faster and the screen is brighter but it's no great technological leap
The Flickering is likely due to the refresh rate variation going from 48Hz to 120Hz. If you look closely, it only flickers when the image sits still (likely at 48Hz), but once you interact with the display, swipe, click on something etc, the flickering stops, probably going to 120Hz when you do it.
@Shahid Najam Afridi no, it's not a bug, it's how it's meant to be to save battery. Whenever you are scrolling an article for example, while scrolling it's 120hz, but as soon as you stop, it goes down to 24hz cause there is no need for 120 cause there is no movement on screen. As soon as you touch the screen again, it instantly goes back to 120hz and you can't even notice the transition. For video, the refresh rate will not go lower than the refresh rate of the video itself, so if you're watching a 60fps video, the screen won't go down to 24hz, but instead stop at 60hz.
@Shahid Najam Afridi The refresh rate going down is a feature to save battery, so typical, the transition is a bit juddery as it is not as polished yet from a software point, its software because on iphone it is not much noticeable, so you can depending on samsung software updates to one day push one out to remove it.
@Game Over Yes, if you re-read my comment you'll see that I never said it was useless, but instead that the S Pen's intended use cases never happen for me, and even asked for more possible use cases
@GamingUnity as great as the s21 ultra is it just is not a flagship anymore in 2023. The new model has significantly better battery life and is faster with a much better camera system. They come out with better phones every year thanks to competiton in the market and advancement in tech. Just because you do not need a new phone others might... We do not need a new phone at the exact same time
Still rocking the S20 Ultra and it is still great. Feel like since the S20 Ultra, there haven't been any reason to upgrade. I upgraded from the S10+, and that was noticable. 120hz, 5000mah battery, the great camera, super snappy. And it still performs like that! S20 Ultra will probably be in my pocket for a good while more. Then I am thinking of trying out a Pixel phone. Written on my S20 Ultra, I love you ❤️
@Martin Thomas can't pip youtube as much as androids, that's enough for me to have sold my iPhone 13, and go back down to a s10+, the notch, is noticeable. Always. People who say it's not are in extreme denial. I hate the hole punch on galaxies. Yeah extremely hate the notch. The screen on the normal IPhone feels like plastic. Only the max and pro have a non plastic feel screen. All galaxy series screens feel glassy not cheap.
The best part about a new Samsung S-line release was that the previous year’s model got a massive discount (wherever it was still available) now with the S23 being essentially the same as the S22, it may mean that the S22 keeps its price a little longer.
@dadillonful thats what smart people look forward to. Even if you're financially stable, it's smart to buy the cheaper option, if the latest spec's aren't your thing
@chee weng Ng the amount of mAh doesn't say anything. The pro Max 13 has 4352 mAh and has about a 50% longer battey life. I'm absolutely no apple fan, but i am seriously conceredering to buy an iphone after this. For my work i often do not have electricity available for 12 - 16 hours, and i'm sick of always having to carry a powerbank.
Right now Fi is selling S22 256gb for $849.99 while they have the S23 256gb on pre-order for $299.99. I don't know if it's a sign of the end times or what.
I've had my s22 ultra for a year now. Zero issues with battery life. Best phone I've ever had. With that said, I'm considering upgrading. Because I'm a sick fck.
One thing you didn’t mention is how for the first time ever Samsung put the snapdragon chip in their phones in all regions, instead of having exynos in the eu and snapdragon in the us. Mrwhosetheboss mentioned this in his video, and overall it’s really great to see them finally fixing that mistake Edit: I get he isn’t from the EU/UK, but this is common knowledge, and I’m sure he just hadn’t heard yet when he made the video. I was just mentioning it in the comments to build on all of the other improvements of the s23 ultra compared to last year, since this is probably the biggest improvement of all.
@boozec it was only about 3/4 the speed of the current snapdragon. People in the eu we’re paying the same price for what might as well be a year old phone
What I've seen over a bunch of videos is that the S23 Ultra is improved in the areas of low light, image stabilization, 8K photage and battery performance. Not enough for me to upgrade from an S21 Ultra but definitely noticeable improvements and for anyone on an older phone like S10+ or similar, it will be huge. Much of it will be true for the entire S23 range.
same, i noticed that getting flagships such as these, its only worth to jump over to the new phone after 4-6 years, since usually thats when some big leaps happen between the models, and as a S21 Ultra user even though its nice to see all these new features, its just not cost effective all things considered..
S23 Plus looks very fitting only because of the battery life. I just prefer the smaller size phones but since I use it for my youtube videos I guess some battery boost will help me. Also very happy they're using Snapdragon gen 2 on these.
@69Solo 13 mini is the best iPhone ever ?? Lol. ios takes some time to get used to. Looks like u gave up too early. What is it that you like in android, that u miss so much in ios? The unstability? Being buggy?
I think the quote “If it aint broke, dont fix it” holds quite well with the new series, but i really hope the repairability of the phone gets a bit easier.
@reyash True i really wish s23 ultra had flat screens than curved ones that also are good for note taking, however there are people who prefer the curved edges too
@Kubo Two Stringz yeah i think that applies to samsung screens for apple rather than their own phones, but then they would for sure follow suit once it works. That is why i hope samsung made a move on better repairability and parts availability than in the last generation.
It would be really nice if there was some quantitative measure of signal quality, call quality, microphone performance, and speaker performance. All of those are more important to me than the negligible differences in processors and camera chips.
@UwU Not going to make any noticeable difference for the way 99% of phone users use their phones. Give the processor a 200% upgrade and it will *still* be negligible for everyone except rare power users.
I wish you would do a video explaining to the common person why these phones are able to take 200Mp photos on such a small lens. I feel like a lot of people are misinformed about how the pixel binning actually works. In short right they take 4 photos and fuse them into 1 bigger size photo. And vice versa when you take photos without the "200 MP" mode on it is taking 4 photos and compiling them into one better looking 12Mp photo.
It's only using pixel binning to produce 12 MP photos, pixel binning is specifically a way of treating a sensor like a lower resolution sensor with a bit of a bump in IQ compared to if you just sampled some of the pixels to drop the resolution. Taking extra photos and stacking them together is, well, image stacking, and it's a basic form of computational photography.
Iso-pro and hdr is the combining multiple photos different exposures, the hardware binning, or The Tetra pixel technology part of the success came with ISOCELL 2.0 the the advantage of the pixel separators bring better colour fidelity and the breakthrough non matalic separator that came with 2.0 allowed for no optical loss wish was the privous weakness. ISOCELL HP2 sensor is why we can now have high pixel count again.
I did really like my Note 20 Ultra, although battery life and speed were slightly disappointing thanks to my region getting the Exynos version. This year the s23 Ultra pretty much addresses all the little complaints I had about that phone. It's pretty near perfection.
I have skipped samsung for a while because of them using exynos in my region (europe) and Im very happy they decided to use the snapdragon in europe now for the first time! Also my carrier gives a great discount so this might be the one to replace my S10+
@Rusted Cognition It indeed is, I am with Samsung since Galaxy S4 and the new models always feel way better . I was very surprised when I saw some comparisons with US versions and how superior they are.
@Rusted Cognition It is not about being less snappy, even S9s are still snappy. The problem is with other stuff like worse image processing resulting in worse photos, less battery life due to poor power management, lower signal in some locations, worse ram management etc. The gaming aspect of it is the least important I would say and it was never about being less responsive.
@Rusted Cognition There is a difference in performance, it might be small and barely noticeable but there is a difference, yet there is no difference in price..
I am coming back to Samsung family since my last S8 and S6 edge (which both had lots of issues especially the chipset and overheating issues). Over here in my region the previous models were all exynos which were far inferior than SD. Fingers cross that this S23 Ultra will be the ultimate game changer!
2 Points here. -[The camera lag can be eliminated by turning off all the ai settings like auto HDR, auto lens swap, sharpening and scene optimizer, then in the good lock app camera assistant turn on increase shutter speed. this also works for all S21-22 phones. - The flickering is the adaptive refresh rate turning the hz down to lower than what the camera is picking up to save battery when your not moving the screen,
Planning to buy the S24 next year, maybe the plus version. Hoping for samsung to have something new and major improvements. The S24 is rumored to have the snapdragon 8 gen 3, not sure though but its something to hope for, its also the fact that some benchmark leaks have shown that it destroyed apple's A16 bionic, and possibly even the A17, by being more powerful on both single core and multi core performance. In fact i might even skip S24 entirely and go for S25 next next year, which will likely have a new generation of exynos chips, if the rumors are true, its gonna have 10 cores. TSMC's N3E method is also very interesting, its something we will see on the new generation of high end chips. Take this comment with a grain of salt, i am not even working on the chip industry, these are just rumors.
So happy I got the S22 Ultra last year and did not wait for the S23U. The upgrade is pretty insignificant and the S22U is holding up pretty well even now :D
@Mikee Rivera Sony makes the best phones for recording live music gigs but it's a very niche market but if you are looking for the best in that area definitely Sony.
Looks like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is ready to snap up the competition! Interested in how the cameras will stack up against other competitors though.
The S23 and S23+ design got me in love with those curvy edges! 😍 but I'm planning to keep my S20 FE at least for another year as the phone still runs smoothly. Hopefully, the S24 will look as good as the S23 or even better 🤞🏻
Great video! I work for one of the major phone retailers and we just got to play with a demo of the ultra the other day. Two big missed details in the video were the ability to use the s pen to write words in loo of the keyboard. Samsung also added their own version of air drop that will prevent apple from adding encryptions to make the galaxy photo quality look awful
There has to be mentioned that the difference is way bigger to the exynos s22 than the snapdragon s22 to the s23. I now own a s23 and before I had the s22 and also iPhone 14 pro. Actually I really love the s23. It's the perfect phone for me. It's smooth, fast, better speakers than last year, better camera, better battery life. I actually like it more than the iPhone 14 pro.
You should also touch on the significance of using the Snapdragon chip across all models, and the overhaul of the speaker system. Other than just the cameras, there are some very important improvements that might matter which in my opinion, were the only real weaknesses of the S22U.
I understand why most people aren't excited (there's moreso improvement than innovation this iteration) but I'm upgrading to the Ultra from an S10+ so I can't help be a tiny bit hyped 😆
@Monica Bao Same here, I originally wanted the 23+ but felt like I might as well get the most out of the jump, since I don't plan to upgrade again for a long time! I'm sure I'll get used to the ultra's size eventually. What color did you pick?
Me too! I was gonna go for the S23+, but looks too much like my S10+, I think I'll go Big or go home with the S23 Ultra just for the camera capabilities alone!
@Ryan Gehret yeah but then the videos would have to be much longer. Those people who are upgrading can just watch the previous gen's review as well as this one.
They seem pretty good at first sight. I'm only disappointed in the color options. This personal preference, but in my opinion Apple offered way better looking colors in the past three years. I wish I could get the S23 in pacific blue or deep purple.
Unless you're using a clear case where you'd actually see the phone color instead of a solid case - I don't get the color issue. Unless of course you don't put the phone in a case.
I tried the s23 in store It has somehow been even MORE comfortable to hold than the s22, the material they used for the back is silky smooth to the point that it makes the s22 feel rough (it's not, the s22 I'd dilky smooth as well, that's how smooth the s23 feels) the edges are also a little less square and rough It's very comfortable and very light. Also, I thought the absence of the camera hump would look soulless, boring, and a "we've run out of ideas" type of redesign, but seeing it in person changed my mind. It honestly looks pretty great. I think I would go with the plus model, the normal 6.1 inch s23 makes videos look too "squished" imo, which is a shame because I am more of a fan of the narrow design (I have a z flip 3) Also if companies were to release new phones every 2 years I would not mind one bit Nothing feels new when you know your top of the line model is going to be replaced in just a years time
I know people are saying we don't need yearly releases. But I think it's s great idea. When there's no big difference between the latest one and the year before, it doesn't make much sense for most people to buy the latest one. And since the new one's out, the old one's stock clearance sales make these high end phones (and that experience) more affordable for more people. And they aren't missing out on much either by not buying the latest and greatest. 🙃
I wish I could get excited for the same product every year like a lot of people seem to be. They always seem to be having fun while the only thing in my head is "this is the exact same". And that's not even necessarily bad, it's just boring, and there's literally no reason to upgrade if you've purchased a flagship within the last half decade
@F2P Gaming Castle Clash & More! generally brands drop the price on devices when a new one is coming out. if samsung is selling a flagship device at $1000, and the new model isn’t going to be out for another couple of years, there’s no incentive to cut the price of the $1000 device. the number of units sold shouldn’t decrease as much, since more and more ppl aren’t upgrading their devices annually, but we really won’t be able to know without numbers. i guess one of the questions could be what’s the number of ppl holding off purchasing a new device until the next model, compared to the number of ppl waiting until their device stops working?
@slf manufacturers will never start doing releases every 2 years. they make more money this way. cheaper to release phones with little to no upgrades, but still sell for such a huge price. i wont be surprised if they start releasing phones every 6 months.
@Menace to Society yeah, I can taste the salt in your comment from here. I'm good thanks, I'm in college and I get a new flagship every 2-3 years, so I'm good. But I'm sorry I hurt your fragile emotions
as year-on-year upgrades are nowadays following diminishing returns, i think its a good thing for other phones. the "cheaper" phones such as the A-series could be expected to get more technologies that are used in the S series. it might not be as good as the s-series but as marques said, "cheap phones are getting better", that seems to be the case
Soo helpful. The Ultra Plus camera upgrade is calling me and I'm a square phone fan (easier for me not to drop). But in all honesty, you've saved me from an impulse buy. Shutter lag -similar to my 22 Ultra Plus.
If the S23+ (even the S22+) had an option for 10GB RAM (it only has 8GB like my S20FE lol), I would take it over the S23/22 Ultra. The 3 cameras of the Plus are already enough for my use case. It looked like they just created the Plus to make you go for the Ultra. Sad as the Plus had the most potential to make me upgrade - but I was put off by the price to spec ratio. I'm even considering moving over to the Pixel 7 series since they're cheaper.
@osoifamf the lack of official support and warranty in our country is the one I'm quite put off. But if I have the funds I'm definitely looking to a Pixel as my next phone.
I'm probably going to upgrade the S23 later this year not because there's anything wrong with my S20, but because I would like to have my S20 be a backup phone that I could depend on unlike my old LG G6
Interesting with the flicker, but I do think that's just because since it is adaptive there will be times with it adjusting that it will hit a point that is not ideal with the fixed filming rat
I'm also on the bi-yearly release change bandwagon. We're just creating so much waste for so little reason now. When the upgrades are this incremental, it only makes sense to stick with what you have anyways.
I'm using a base S22 256 gb model that I ordered only weeks ago. Bought it at a very nice discount so I just decided to pull the trigger and trade this phone in for the base S23 256 gb model. A lot of people were disappointed with the low trade in value but I didn't end up paying that much more for the S23. A phone I'm more than likely going to have for the next 5 years.
I've had the S10+ since 2019. Last year, I tried the S22 Ultra for a month. I felt the battery was very underwhelming for much I paid. $1700 for the 1TB model. After selling it on eBay, I bought a Certified Renewed S10+. I've had it for 11 months, and I'm debating if I should upgrade to the S23 Ultra or wait for the S24 series. I don't want to be underwhelmed by battery life again. And that 1TB ensures that I'll keep the phone for at least 4 - 5 years or even longer. For longevity, higher internal storage works better for me. Do you guys think I'm due for an upgrade?
I've been saying for a while that phone companies need to switch to a 2-3 year gap between new releases. It makes the difference actually noteworthy and not incremental for another $1000+, saves on e-waste, less FOMO, and makes the company have more time to perfect a better and more flashy release, saving money, more purchases, less material/Ewaste.
I don't mind the small upgrades each year. But one BIG thing this year in my opinion is the worldwide usage of the snapdragon gen 2 chip. Every single year EU for example has had a noticeably worse phone in multipe departments for the exact same price. FINALLY this happened. I won't get the s23 since I got the s22 but I'm glad to know my s24/s25 will have an equal chip.
I'm upgrading from an S8 so I decided to wait for the S23Ultra. I wanted to invest on a phone I could keep using for another 5 years just like my S8. Buying it at preorder and taking advantage of the preorder deals and freebies made it less painful on my wallet (at least psychologically). 😅
I am still using my Samsung Note 10 5g+ and I was trying to use it as long as possible, but I think this might wind up being the replacement. 3.5 years is a pretty good life for a cell phone
Love the Note 10 plus 5G, and same here... still rocking since 2019. Like the pen and the extra "external" micro SD card. Daytime photos good, nighttime so so. I may upgrade to S23 plus or Ultra (like the pen). Have Sony Xperia 5G for fine (better) photos. Also like my S20 for a small manageable phone with DEX. Got a Flip 4, not that great but a cute gimmick (like my Pixel 6a better). Not sure that the S23 line has DEX. All the best with your phone. Seems like Tmobile supports Samsung great and Pixel too, but somehow my $$$ Sony Experia 1 Mark 3 does not get the fastest data connection on Magenta Plus (but takes awesome photos, love the dedicated (high speed feature) shutter button.
I bought the s23 ultra today after walking into the store. I already own the s22 ultra, and the camera quality of the s23 ultra blew me away in comparison. Done a trade-in and upgraded.
@AskMeWhy it’s cope to objectively look at something that’s good enough for you and not want to spend large amounts of money for a slight increase? Fandroids are too funny
@Sayantan Bose its not an improvement a t all since at the unpacked event samsung said they partnered with qualcom for the "snapdragon for galaxy " means to me that they fabricated the chipset thru their samsung foundry.. its a big no for me knowing that sammy isnt good as tsmc in making SOC's
Google Fi has a hell of a deal for existing customers. S23 Ultra 512gb for $600, no trade in needed. Pre-ordered a green one. My current phone is a Note 20 5g and I also scored a deal on it through Google Fi. Only paid $500 with no trade in just a month after the Note 20 5g was released. Looking forward to the upgrade after almost 3 years.
To be honest I'm still really happy with my s21 ultra, especially as I got it in perfect working condition for 390 us dollars. I also just prefer how it looks, rounded edges still look better imo.
I really like the colors. Really wish the S23 Ultra would come with a flat display and a pop up selfie cam or something but that's just a dream at this point. At least the sides are more flat 👍🏿
i'm glad that i still picked up my S22 Ultra last year it's amazing, the screen, the image quality, the video STABILIZATION, so i don't regret the purchase. the only - is the battery and charging speed.
It's genuinely surprising that Samsung's phones still have the shifter lag on their cameras. It was the first thing I noticed when shifting from iPhone to Android early on and is the reason I've stayed with the Pixel/Nexus devices over the years. Every time I tried to move back to Samsung they've had the shutter lag and it's caused me to miss shots. Hopefully they figure it out soon, but it's coming on a decade of not being able to implement it properly 😞
I do a 2 year refresh of my phones, but with the very small increment upgrades to each line up, and the price costs just getting ridiculous... when I get my S23 Ultra (coming from S21 Ultra Exynos), I will keep this phone for probably 4 years now. Unless some absolutely revolutionary tech comes out, it just wont be worth it. Went from the s6 Edge, to the s8, to the s10+ (for the underscreen ultrasonic fingerprint reader), to the s21 Ultra (for improved cameras), and now to the s23 Ultra for SD Chipset, improved cameras, and bigger storage. That will be me for the next 4/5 years I reckon
I love how MKBHD always just kinda brushes off Samsung. Usually doesn't say much bad about it but that is it. Than the Pixel comes out or an iPhone comes out. We start seeing excitement, buzzwords and more videos. You can really see what kind of phones he prefers. I have a Z Fold4, Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Book2 Pro 360 and Buds2 Pro. Literally has been the best ecosystem I ever had.
Yes, this release is probably useless with not much change to make the upgrade for most people, but I still have the Note 9 so something like this would be a considerable update for me.
That's a good amount of time between phones! I'm still on an S21+, and I think I'll have to wait at least another year or two before I even consider upgrading with how minor some of these differences from year to year.
@Davy Jones Resolution-wise there's not much difference. But the new screens are much brighter and are much smoother due to the true 120Hz refresh rate. Biggest improvement for me was jumping to the new camera systems. The 10x zoom is a game changer.
I had an S10+ and got an S22+, you can tell the s10 has a better resolution (its only noticeable if you're really looking at the pixels) however the 120hz refresh rate makes it worth of an upgrade imo
Question since folks smarter than me might be here. My S10+ has resolution of 1440 x 3040. Would the S23 and S23+ basically be a downgrade from a screen resolution standpoint or is there more to it?
It is better that they don't try weird stuff in their main line if they don't have to, but maybe they should swap to bi-yearly for their main line? It would make the main line have more of an impact while giving people a reason to try a Fold or whatever, if they really have that yearly new phone itch.. I waited 2 generations from the Note to 10+ to the S22 Ultra and it felt signifigant enough. I have no need for the S23, which is a good thing.
s23 is my first android phone in a decade. i love it. would have gotten the ultra but ive had iphone maxes and the size gets really annoying most of the time lol
Thinking of upgrading from a S21 Still not sure. To be honest, I got the S21 from an S10, it wasn't a better experience. But I checked out the S23 range at the store, really liked it better than the S21. Not sure if I should upgrade though.
@gawsog You can still have ads on your videos, but if the video is longer than 8 minutes, you can drop ads in the middle of the video as well, not just beginning and end as with shorter ones. It was 10 minutes before but like a year ago they changed it to 8 min minimum. They still have ads tho
"Reshaped curve at the edges to better optimize for the S pen." This is actually the change I was looking for from the S22U. To clarify, writing and drawing, or any S pen use is not as comfortable as it could be when you have a curved display to the extent that the S22U was. When using a pen you want a flat canvas and want to take advantage of the entirety of the limited real estate of the phone display without worrying about hitting the curves. You want the pen to land where you predict it to and not have to avoid the sides of the canvas. This was a change that imo they had to make if they really wanted the phone to do justice to the succession of the Galaxy Notes and the market that they're wanting to carry over from it.
I think only the S23 Ultra features an LTPO display but I'm glad to hear the small 23 is getting 1750 nits brightness tho. Wish Samsung would just give all 3 same tech display and brightness. It wouldn't bankrupt them
I havent upgraded my phone since the S10+ but today I learned I finally get a free one. So I went with the 23 ultra. While I do wish we could go back a few years and bring the headphone jack, sd card slot, and removeable battery back I know what to expect with samsung so I'm excited.
I think it's good if you're upgrading from s21 or lower and especially if you're from Europe or Africa or Australia since you'll finally get the Snapdragon processor
I've got a S20 Ultra and plan on making an upgrade to one of the s23's as I know they've upgraded significantly since 2020. I just can't decide on the s23 Ultra or the s23+...ugh. Decisions, decisions.
The fact that the camera is integrating with social media finally is a game changer.. That's been holding a lot of people back from making the leap to getting Samsung phones
@J K Yeah. But they refuse to do it. The little that has been integrated has had to be worked on with Samsung partnering with companies. Social media companies only seem to care about iPhones.
One thing that is being neglected in reviews - Samsung for some reason is NOT including ultra wide band in the regular 23 model, but is on the 23+ This impacts usage of accessories like smart tags. Why they continue to do this is beyond me.
The edges on the S22U were too slippery on the curves for the s pen. If you came near it youll slip down from the screen. I guess thats why they made it more flat instead of curved like the s22u
This year more than ever, I've realised we've plateaued with smartphone technology. I think you should go 3-4 years between upgrades now to get noticeable improvements and feel like you've got value for the extra money spent.
Normal people already wait 3-4 years at the minimum before upgrading. I have never met a single person who had the second newest iPhone and bought the newest
Got the S22 Ultra and it is the first Samsung phone I had major software issues with. Freezing and needing restarts. Not sure if I will stay with them, but hopefully they iron out those issues.
Stuff like this is what I’ve been saying in the comments. People are already saying this is a huge leap but it’s the same thing every year. 1) it launches and the impressions seem good and the battery life “is better”. 2) regular people get the phone and it’s the same as last year and sometimes it performs worse lol
Tried S22 Ultra, S23 Ultra and 14 plus. No reasons to replace Note 20 Ultra yet. 2y should be minimum generation gap. It would also save some digital waste amounts.
Saw Arun's review and it's way more informative... It actually pushed me to pre-book the S23 Ultra to replace my S22 Ultra... with launch offers, it is a sweet deal.
If I'm not wrong, they always made the Exynos chipsets based on Snapdragon chipsets but with more cores and overclocking their cores because of which Samsung with Exynos chipsets were known to have battery drain issues and heating issues back then so it's no wonder they tried to overclock the 8 Gen 2
They had such a nice design tweek with that camera thing on the S21. I don't know why they dipped it, their smartphones couldn't look any more boring now
Still rocking an S21+ so it feels good that I don't "need" to upgrade. It's always a pain switching phones for me since I have things pretty customized
I'm definitely going to be trying out this acer charging block. I have some cheaper 3 port blocks with 2 blue 1 Orange usb, but I think I'm still being throttled by the cable. I need to pay closer attention to these tech details because I'm extremely far behind, I'm too focused on nature and bow hunting whitetail deer I guess 🤣🤣🤣 ☯️
As someone who was an avid android user but was always outdated, and is trying to help my partner, I love this sort of thing to keep in mind on phone possibilities
I ordered the 512GB Ultra. 1064€ with trade-in of my OnePlus 8 Pro. Can't wait to test out the cameras! It's also the first time in a looong while we're getting a Samsung flagship phone with a Snapdragon processor here in Europe. We've been stuck with the inferior Exynos stuff.
Well I decided to upgrade from s10+ I had it 3.5y and the main reason is the stylus plus snapdragon processor for the first time in the European market. My phone is still good and will become my full time car / HGV sat nav. I do have S8 ultra tablet and that blows away my old phone that starts to lag... Pre-order deal was ok also 10% off , 512gb 12gb ram for what 256gb is priced for in UK and case 30% off. Still expensive but I use the phone like a mobile laptop so the cost is justified for device to keep for 3-4 years to come.
I definitely think we've reached a point in smartphones where yearly releases aren't necessary and maybe every other year should be released
Some rich psychopaths just buy it and keep on buying. Irrespective of actual difference
Maybe dont buy it yearly then
I appreciate your honesty. At this point, I think we'd be ok if they released a new phone every 2 years
I've been saying this 5 years ago. And keep updates for the phones active for 3 years. They got one of 2 done.
Gaming consoles have it right; release a new product when the technology is sufficiently better as to make it necessary for modern uses.
3 years
3 is the sweet spot. Not too far, not too soon.
I just received the S23 Ultra!
And it's the same exact phone for 4 consecutive years.
is green a good color for a man. does it make him look soft?
@Mr B We are talking about Samsung, not Apple
I purchased the S22 ultra last year after having the galaxy s8 for almost 6 years. I am blown away, and still blown away by the quality of the phone, and the cameras. My coworkers are constantly blown away by the performance of the cameras. I hope to get another 5 years out of this phone, and I am sure I will. Awesome job Samsung!
I have an s8 right now and am researching upgrades. Very good phone for a long time, but apps these days have been slowing the old girl down
i just got my s23 ultra last week to replace my 5 years old s9+
@Eastwood Buck lol, the GPU (snapdragon 8.2 Gen2 is MUCH faster, but really, you're right. There's almost no difference.
@Mikee Rivera S23 Ultra!!
He kinda mentions it here @4:45 with the text to the left.
@Zhong Xina on iphone/mac it is not noticeable at all tbh
@Shahid Najam Afridi The refresh rate going down is a feature to save battery, so typical, the transition is a bit juddery as it is not as polished yet from a software point, its software because on iphone it is not much noticeable, so you can depending on samsung software updates to one day push one out to remove it.
@Sasha Rudyy is that bug or its typical? Is there any way to fix it?
You know the improvements are tiny when even the Galaxy S21 ultra could pass as a 2023 flagship.
@Onaterdem fair
@Game Over Yes, if you re-read my comment you'll see that I never said it was useless, but instead that the S Pen's intended use cases never happen for me, and even asked for more possible use cases
@Onaterdem I use my mom's phone (note 10) for studying, drawing, and other things that aren't on top of my head, s pen isn't useless
@GamingUnity as great as the s21 ultra is it just is not a flagship anymore in 2023. The new model has significantly better battery life and is faster with a much better camera system. They come out with better phones every year thanks to competiton in the market and advancement in tech. Just because you do not need a new phone others might... We do not need a new phone at the exact same time
@Poison Kiss facts, using my and never has a hiccup. Huge storage
Written on my S20 Ultra, I love you ❤️
Had the 20 Ultra for three years I'm gonna move iver to pixels now
no on the pixel, always quality issues by google.
@Awesome Err getting the s23 ultra?
I still have the s10+ and was thinking of getting this one.
Mrwhosetheboss mentioned this in his video, and overall it’s really great to see them finally fixing that mistake
Edit: I get he isn’t from the EU/UK, but this is common knowledge, and I’m sure he just hadn’t heard yet when he made the video. I was just mentioning it in the comments to build on all of the other improvements of the s23 ultra compared to last year, since this is probably the biggest improvement of all.
@Adam OK, that's not right!
@Splendid Cookie Oof, I hadn’t heard that one. Great they finally switched
@boozec it was only about 3/4 the speed of the current snapdragon. People in the eu we’re paying the same price for what might as well be a year old phone
Why is this a mistake? What's wrong with exynos?
What I've seen over a bunch of videos is that the S23 Ultra is improved in the areas of low light, image stabilization, 8K photage and battery performance. Not enough for me to upgrade from an S21 Ultra but definitely noticeable improvements and for anyone on an older phone like S10+ or similar, it will be huge. Much of it will be true for the entire S23 range.
I upgraded from an s20, only cause I was having issues with it
As an S3 user, upgrading to the A53 was huge. The same cannot be said for an A52 or A51 user.
@Cb. Chivz 374 yeah if you are S8-S10 user id say it is a solid choice to move as the leap is quite considerable, i myself moved from S8+ to S21ultra
S10+ user here.. I'm planning on it!
same, i noticed that getting flagships such as these, its only worth to jump over to the new phone after 4-6 years, since usually thats when some big leaps happen between the models, and as a S21 Ultra user even though its nice to see all these new features, its just not cost effective all things considered..
@Debasish Sarma this is the first time? How different does the S21 and S22 look?
@Aasishwar Saravana I don't think we understand each other.
@reyash True i really wish s23 ultra had flat screens than curved ones that also are good for note taking, however there are people who prefer the curved edges too
@Alex 😂Lol this holds true too!
Give the processor a 200% upgrade and it will *still* be negligible for everyone except rare power users.
theres not negligible differences in processors and camera chips 😂 20-30% upgrades on last years phones are not negligible. thats a big upgrade
Ironic
Mrwhoseboss did it! And it was absolutely incredible!!!
MrWhoseTheBoss just did a fantastic explanation of pixel binning in his S23 video.
@Michal Pivarc Yeah I see what your saying, I'm coming from an a52s though so still a massive upgrade!
@W yeah, I got my s21 ultra for 390 us dollars so I can't really complain, I understand that you want to get the best value possible though.
I actually really like the more box shape feel, I prefer it over the 22.
Help !!! I'm a musician looking into a good phone to record live music/gigs. Any recommendations???
I am waiting for the S23U's release to get a cheaper price for the S22U. Big step up from my S9.
Of course the difference is insignificant the S22 Ultra is only a year old lol
@catboy There is a considerable difference in color when taking night photos and slightly improved sharpness when zooming from what what I have seen
Looks like the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is ready to snap up the competition! Interested in how the cameras will stack up against other competitors though.
This is so similar to last year's line-up I feel kinda dumb for waiting for this with excitement :( But I like the Ultra being more boxy 🌚❤️
@GigaCat same word for that exynos. Boring
@GigaCat yeah even 8 gen 1 was already beating a15 at gpu so it’s even more impressive how much further 8 gen 2 went.
@Kimchi damn. The back of the phone and the logo is all that matters to you?
@Jedidiah’s Lifetime what did i say and what's the opposite? Point it out. Loling won't help. I will be waiting 😊
You can use the S pen to write words instead of the keyboard on the S22 Ultra too
I admire the way Samsung is usually moderate in speccing their smartphones. It gives room for future innovations.
I didn't know the s23 was out already wow
Can I have the s22 please 😌
You should also touch on the significance of using the Snapdragon chip across all models, and the overhaul of the speaker system. Other than just the cameras, there are some very important improvements that might matter which in my opinion, were the only real weaknesses of the S22U.
I understand why most people aren't excited (there's moreso improvement than innovation this iteration) but I'm upgrading to the Ultra from an S10+ so I can't help be a tiny bit hyped 😆
@Patrik Josefsson I still have my s4
and it works .......almost...
@Monica Bao Same here, I originally wanted the 23+ but felt like I might as well get the most out of the jump, since I don't plan to upgrade again for a long time! I'm sure I'll get used to the ultra's size eventually. What color did you pick?
@catboy I didn't say it was exclusive to smartphones, but it comes up a lot more with them at least from what I've seen.
I still have the S21 Ultra- looking forward to the Google Pixel 8 Pro; I hope this year's design is flagship worthy!
I agree. I loved the green on s22. I'm disappointed in their choice of green for the s23, it's barely green and looks just like an off grey almost.
I tried the s23 in store
It has somehow been even MORE comfortable to hold than the s22, the material they used for the back is silky smooth to the point that it makes the s22 feel rough (it's not, the s22 I'd dilky smooth as well, that's how smooth the s23 feels) the edges are also a little less square and rough
It's very comfortable and very light. Also, I thought the absence of the camera hump would look soulless, boring, and a "we've run out of ideas" type of redesign, but seeing it in person changed my mind. It honestly looks pretty great. I think I would go with the plus model, the normal 6.1 inch s23 makes videos look too "squished" imo, which is a shame because I am more of a fan of the narrow design (I have a z flip 3)
Also if companies were to release new phones every 2 years I would not mind one bit
Nothing feels new when you know your top of the line model is going to be replaced in just a years time
"Also if companies were to release new phones every 2 years I would not mind one bit" - THIS.
I'm thinking about upgrading from Note 8 to S23 Ultra so for me it'll definitely feel all new
Same here. I'm currently watching this vid on my note 8 and I think it's time for an upgrade 👍🏼
@Peedub 03 Waaaaay too good to pass up gamn
I'm using an s8plus, but upgrading ain't part of my thoughts, those thoughts are too expensive
You will definitely notice a difference, I had the note 8 and 9, the s20 fe and now the s22 ultra! Congrats
Maybe try switching to an iPhone if you're using Android. I mean if you're looking for something fresh and different
@Menace to Society yeah, I can taste the salt in your comment from here. I'm good thanks, I'm in college and I get a new flagship every 2-3 years, so I'm good. But I'm sorry I hurt your fragile emotions
@Rares Radoi apple lives rent free in your head huh? you should probably get a job to afford one
as year-on-year upgrades are nowadays following diminishing returns, i think its a good thing for other phones.
the "cheaper" phones such as the A-series could be expected to get more technologies that are used in the S series. it might not be as good as the s-series but as marques said, "cheap phones are getting better", that seems to be the case
I moved from Samsung to the pixel 7 series and I'm very happy
I'm probably going to upgrade the S23 later this year not because there's anything wrong with my S20, but because I would like to have my S20 be a backup phone that I could depend on unlike my old LG G6
Loved my G6 now have Pixel 6 Pro
Interesting with the flicker, but I do think that's just because since it is adaptive there will be times with it adjusting that it will hit a point that is not ideal with the fixed filming rat
Great video! I honestly still prefer the S22 (and S21 Ultra) camera bump to protruding cameras; otherwise it looks more like an A13/A14.
I'm also on the bi-yearly release change bandwagon. We're just creating so much waste for so little reason now. When the upgrades are this incremental, it only makes sense to stick with what you have anyways.
Watching this video in my Note20 Ultra, and honestly, I don't feel like I'm falling behind with any major stuff/features even after almost 3 years.
@Zaydan Alfariz right right lmao
@Holy Hobo It should be FOMO, not FOMS
@Zaydan Alfariz fear of missing out
What's FOMS?
@TreeLeaf What about washing machines? What if someones breaks and wants to upgrade but cant because of a multi year cycle?
I don't mind the small upgrades each year. But one BIG thing this year in my opinion is the worldwide usage of the snapdragon gen 2 chip. Every single year EU for example has had a noticeably worse phone in multipe departments for the exact same price. FINALLY this happened. I won't get the s23 since I got the s22 but I'm glad to know my s24/s25 will have an equal chip.
I held back on the S22U for the same reason. Glad I can upgrade this year.
Why not get like a S21 Ultra or something and save money
I wanted to upgrade my s8+ to pixel 7 but then I read about exploding cameras
I loved my s8, that’s going to be a really big upgrade
@Muhluri I do not know. I didn't try to trade in my S8.
You should wait. It's a new year. Wait for a better phone to come out.
I'm still using my Samsung Note 10. Still thinking if there is any phone worth upgrading to...
@Official Lucas Alltech Reviews damn, at least we can be glad that this isn't any different from the previous phones, so you can find some deals :)
@AppleToaster I live in Australia and the prices of phones here are insane s23 here is 1350 !!
I have the Note 20 and will keep it indefinitely. Phones are too expensive where I live, and this phone does everything I care about anyways.
It will be interesting to see how the 200MP camera fares against the iPhone and Pixel cameras!
I bought the s23 ultra today after walking into the store.
I already own the s22 ultra, and the camera quality of the s23 ultra blew me away in comparison.
Done a trade-in and upgraded.
Glad that I bought S22 Ultra last year. Just a minor changes except the 200 MP Cameras, for me that's great, but S22 Ultra's camera already awesome. 😉
@AskMeWhy it’s cope to objectively look at something that’s good enough for you and not want to spend large amounts of money for a slight increase? Fandroids are too funny
@Den x Den no, they're based on tsmc 4nm process. Maybe, the clock speed is different.
haha so manny s22 ultra enjoyers, thinks that I like the s23 ultra. The fact that you spent 1000 bucks on a smartphone is already not a good purchase.
I’m on the fence of buying the s23u on google fi. But I still owed 600 on my s22u 😢
Which plan do you have?
To be honest I'm still really happy with my s21 ultra, especially as I got it in perfect working condition for 390 us dollars. I also just prefer how it looks, rounded edges still look better imo.
Agreed. The camera and the zoom is still world class. It's hard to justify an upgrade.
@SimplCup I got it from marketplace, the person had bought a galaxy fold 4, phone is in really great condition. Just a really great deal!
390 dollars? Where did you get it that cheap?
What makes me happy is that they are selling snapdragon variants in India 🔥
I really like the colors. Really wish the S23 Ultra would come with a flat display and a pop up selfie cam or something but that's just a dream at this point. At least the sides are more flat 👍🏿
The winner is you 🎉🎉🥂🥂. Dm username above to claim the gift.
i'm glad that i still picked up my S22 Ultra last year
it's amazing, the screen, the image quality, the video STABILIZATION, so i don't regret the purchase.
the only - is the battery and charging speed.
@Rudis Leimanis OK don't be apple shill
@Rudis Leimanis i disagree
@girlsdrinkfeck Samsung user here, your acting like a little quirky geek. Get a grip, iPhone photos take the same quality photos as samsung.
@Better Leper ?
You want a medal?
I have pre-ordered the S23 Ultra, upgrading from my Note 20 Ultra. I'm in the UK and I am pumped about finally getting the Snapdragon Chip!!
Do you mind selling the Note 20 ultra to me ?.. I'm in Nairobi Kenya
That's a good amount of time between phones! I'm still on an S21+, and I think I'll have to wait at least another year or two before I even consider upgrading with how minor some of these differences from year to year.
Can you please sell your Note 20 ultra to me?
literally the exact same here hahahaha
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Definitely feeling the image stabilization
I'm totally satisfied with my S21 ultra. Gonna rock it until the processor melts.
it hasn’t caught on fire yet?
@Davy Jones Resolution-wise there's not much difference. But the new screens are much brighter and are much smoother due to the true 120Hz refresh rate. Biggest improvement for me was jumping to the new camera systems. The 10x zoom is a game changer.
Same!
We’ve reached the point where all that needs to be perfected are batteries, durability and screen resolutions and refresh rates.
s23 is my first android phone in a decade. i love it. would have gotten the ultra but ive had iphone maxes and the size gets really annoying most of the time lol
Thinking of upgrading from a S21
Still not sure. To be honest, I got the S21 from an S10, it wasn't a better experience. But I checked out the S23 range at the store, really liked it better than the S21. Not sure if I should upgrade though.
I find it kinda sad that the S21 ultra design was easily the best ultra but they only kept it for a single generation.
Can we just appreciate Marques for keeping this video short and not making it to 10 mins just because they have to
@gawsog it's 8 now
@Fye Tech for mid roll adds it needs to be 10 mins
@gawsog You can still have ads on your videos, but if the video is longer than 8 minutes, you can drop ads in the middle of the video as well, not just beginning and end as with shorter ones. It was 10 minutes before but like a year ago they changed it to 8 min minimum. They still have ads tho
@gawsog 10-min video can produce one more than ad, whereas the under 10-min video is limited to only to one ad as far as I know.
Is 10 mins the minimum for ads/youtube profit?
I would argue unless you are on like an S10 or something, i won't be compelled to upgrade
@Shannon Morrison My point exactly...
I bought the s22 ultra and within a week had gone back to iphone for how the camera looked on snapchat.
@J K Yeah. But they refuse to do it. The little that has been integrated has had to be worked on with Samsung partnering with companies. Social media companies only seem to care about iPhones.
what the hell are you even talking about? social media apps can access the camera api on android since the galaxy s9..
nope it hasn't at all
I always expected for s23 to come out in Ultra design, Samsung did it!
I'd definitely buy Samsung over iPhone now!
I always wonder with such tiny changes(improvement) to phones every next generation, will we have any huge innovation on phones come 2027?
One thing that is being neglected in reviews - Samsung for some reason is NOT including ultra wide band in the regular 23 model, but is on the 23+ This impacts usage of accessories like smart tags. Why they continue to do this is beyond me.
The edges on the S22U were too slippery on the curves for the s pen. If you came near it youll slip down from the screen.
I guess thats why they made it more flat instead of curved like the s22u
It's good to be an honest reviewer. Thank you for the video.
This year more than ever, I've realised we've plateaued with smartphone technology. I think you should go 3-4 years between upgrades now to get noticeable improvements and feel like you've got value for the extra money spent.
@Cifirjwbducuf come to the ME latest models are always out of stock
Normal people already wait 3-4 years at the minimum before upgrading. I have never met a single person who had the second newest iPhone and bought the newest
I know the s23 ultra is the same thickness as the 22 ultra but the squared off sides (despite looking nice) definitely make it feel thicker
@Aarón Carrillo Mrwhosetheboss
@Harshit Mohan Sharma Arun is the best
Im new here, can you share Aruns username ? So i can watch his review, please
@Top Tier Tech in my country I also got a $250 samsung voucher for pre ordering
this video is not a review this is a first impression video
If I'm not wrong, they always made the Exynos chipsets based on Snapdragon chipsets but with more cores and overclocking their cores because of which Samsung with Exynos chipsets were known to have battery drain issues and heating issues back then so it's no wonder they tried to overclock the 8 Gen 2
This is way better than watching the actual event announcement
They tried so hard to prolong the unpacked. But it seems the things inside the box are mostly fillers. They almost beat one peace
They had such a nice design tweek with that camera thing on the S21. I don't know why they dipped it, their smartphones couldn't look any more boring now
Love how the design is increasingly start to resemble Xperia Z series from 10 years ago 😂
Still rocking an S21+ so it feels good that I don't "need" to upgrade. It's always a pain switching phones for me since I have things pretty customized
Still using the note 8 lol. Thinking of upgrading or rock it another year...
I'm still using an s8+ lol
Facts and plus things are expensive. I don't have to the money to keep up. Plus most of the so called upgrades aren't noticeable
Sad how we can't go beyond this front design....
I remember when S6 edge and S7 edge came out....
Then with S8 design samsung killed it ❤️
@NoTrueScotsman i have X80 and can't even install proper screen protector
@NoTrueScotsman true
I refuse to buy another phone with curved edges. All disadvantages with no purpose.
Love that the S23 has a bigger battery. Can't wait to pick one up 9 months from now when its heavily discounted
@Bre Patterson shit promo tho
@ManiS bad trade in offers that fans fancy
@Bre Patterson what's the promo??
Samsung has a promo going on right now. Which makes the phone much cheaper.
South America?
Personally I think Samy has really worked hard in camera and battery improvement
As someone who was an avid android user but was always outdated, and is trying to help my partner, I love this sort of thing to keep in mind on phone possibilities
We would really love a ultra mini which has the best of line camera system with smaller battery, no s pen and smaller screen
Still expensive but I use the phone like a mobile laptop so the cost is justified for device to keep for 3-4 years to come.
crazy how this phone looks exactly the same as the last one, the green it’s kinda clean tho
@Using Intel as a heater that's the outside, not the inside
@JM811Cars
No, not even that. The pros got a new processor and the base models got an extra Gpu core + removable back glass
@Juno
No, the glassbacks are now removable. Which is a big and long awaited change
@Using Intel as a heater the 14 and 14+ are literally identical to the 13's on the inside
@Johnnygga it's the same price
