OH WOW! Not only is Merv hilarious (in a good way), but I actually learned something useful. GREAT job mixing comedy and skill education. Loved It!! May your half brother Melvin rest in peace.
I love this video! Not only was it helpful, it also gave me a good chuckle. And when you're really annoyed that you have this plumbing dilemma in your life, you need a good chuckle. Thanks for making my plumbing issue a little more bearable today. 😊
Educational AND funny! Love it. You need way more subscribers than you have. Keep pumping out the content and the viewers will come. KZclip likes to recommend channels that have a lot of videos coming out regularly so that may be something to think about and any questions you can pose to the audience to get them to comment on the video is super helpful for driving KZclip recommendations as well. Good luck to you sir!
Oh god dude you’re hilarious 😂 it is so much fun to watch I had to show my wife, she’s not an easy one when it comes to laughing at things and she did, I must say you passed that test 😂
I'm working on my hot tub and I don't know a lot about the process. But now I know a little more. I appreciate the video....A Lot! Thank you. I think you saved me a ton of work.
Nothing wrong with this method if you can get the cement to bond well and do a leak check. I applied this technique with a washer drain. The 90 was broke in half where it goes under the floor.I put quite a bit of primer and cement on her and she set up solid. Not like its pressurized anyway
Maybe easier to saw out the elbow joint entirely and replace it with a new one. But that takes a trip to the hardware store. Plus you might need to adjust the pipe lengths or connections 🤔
Using the heat gun tip was helpful, but the Eating PVC, the flesh covered Kevlar suit, the rabbit and the poor half brother RIP, gained you a subscriber. Now to try it out.
There is a method I just learned where you can use a hole bore socket or whatever it's called that goes in an electric drill stick it inside the diameter of the pipe and try to get the closest fit. Then heat that sucker up with a torch and stick it in the pipe. It will also allow you to pull out the inner pipe as it melts the adhesive.
Disregarding for a moment the fact that this video showed me exactly what I needed to do it was also extremely entertaining. Count me as a subscriber! Thanks!
Outstanding, Merv! This is the perfect technique to remove a short section of 2" PVC-Pipe that I mistakenly glued into a "T" fitting. Every time I trimmed some off, it was still too short. Measure once, cut Twice or More. Keep cutting till you get it right or replace and start over again. With my trusty HeatGun, I can now start over again so much easier. BTW: I just Liked/Subbed your channel. Hope you don't mind........ Russ in Nu-Hampster PS: Merv, you're the inspiration I've been seeking out for the last 65+ years. Before that, I was just a Punk Kid with some Rusty Tools. That's why my Gramps had my name changed to Rusty but my BoyScout DropOut Buds re-changed it to simply Russ. Actually, it was Simple-Russ but that's another story. Have a Happy and Re-Warding Saint Aloyisious weekend and don't eat too much Beaver-Meat at the big Party Blow-Out or drink too much wine during all those End-Less Toasts. Now, if I could only find an Extension Cord, I could remove that Too-Short section of PVC-Pipe.
Happy to be of service. Exercise caution and truly do be careful of the fumes. Praying for you all during the #TexasPowerOutage. If anybody can handle such a storm, Texans sure can.
Thank you! Replacing my pool pump and don't have enough pipe sticking out of a valve to put a new fitting on so I'm going to try to peel the old fitting off.
Worked great! I was able to peel away a fitting and also peel away pipe from the inside of a fitting. Up and running, and no need make all new pipes/fittings. Also installed a union so I can put the whole pump inside for winter!
Thanks Carl! And remember, MervServe is made fresh daily ... and delivered to you weeks later. Be sure to turn on those notifications for our upcoming videos. -Merv Himself
This was good! the narration was the best, although at first I di not think this was going to work! thought the configuration of the joints would have doen more damage than needed!
Wow what a useful video. I just separated a glued soil pipe in about 20 minutes. I tried this a few years ago by grinding away the unwanted interior tube with a wire wheel. It took me all day and the results were s**t! Wish I'd seen this video beforehand. Plus you sound like the guy from The Big Lebowski: "sometimes you eat the bar, and sometimes, well, it eats you!"
Welcome to the Mervolution, Rob! Although I'm not sure what's sadder: You watchin' Merv videos on Christmas Eve? Or me answerin' your comment! Heck, either way, we were made for each other, partner! Glad to have ya as part of my loyal legion of followers.
Thanks Merv. I just always cut everything out, and re-glued it back up. Or bought some outrageously expensive bolt on coupler or something. I will try my heat gun on the next one. Don't pay any attention to the haters. "Live in the present moment" probably "lives in my Mother's basement". It isn't Thursday, so they don't have the door unlocked and the internet is all there is to do because he can't actually fix things (or do things).
@Richard Hill, thanks for the kind words. Like I illustrated, my first attempt wasn't great. But I hope you can learn from my mistakes as well as my successes. And, no worries about @Live in the present moment . I'm just not sure he was pickin' up what I was layin' down. Cheers! - Merv Himself
I usually heat up a hole saw slightly smaller than the id of the pipe, insert it, let the pipe absorb the heat, then pry the piece out with a screwdriver and needle nose pliers
That sounds awesome. Please post a video or pic on social media (Twtiter, Instagram or KZclip) and tag me in it so we can see it in action! -Merv Himself
After watching your Torque Wrench Vid I checked out your Channel. This is the second Vid I watched and I’ve subscribed. One “Old Guy” to another, I’m entertained by the narration. Actually, JR that is not actually Merv talkin'...it's Helen. Ya see, Helen use ta have a chain saw in that bedside drawer until one night about 2 am, she wanted to initiate a surprise trial separation with Mr. Merv Himself. Evidence reveals that the fumes from the burnt up PVC Mervalicious has become rather unknowingly fond of, had taken a toll on his vocal cords causing unparalleled snoring. According to Ripley, Helen knew that the severing of those cord culprits would be quickly accomplished with her compact chainsaw before MervaBOOM would awaken! Well, it was dark @2am when Helen fired up her Poulan and the noise startled her so bad that she severed her own voice box!! While @her bedside in the ER Merv was relieved of Helen's recount of a "dream" about a giant Sequoia tree that was endangering Merv Himself's Workshop/PVC smokehouse. After several counseling session, Mr. & Mrs. Merv concurred on replacing the chainsaw w/the hacksaw. So, there you have it, 2 answers with one joint...PVC!!
K B Thanks very much.Great to have a pro to talk to But please look at my situation in this video. Just exactly where would you cut back to? It would require a lot of replumbing if I did that.

love the video, but what happens if the pipe catches on fire (too much heat gun). what if the pipe catches on fire and it's a gas pipe? inquiring mind want to know. can you show us?
Them's the kinda questions my half-brother Melvin used to ask. God rest his soul. For reference, I address it here: kzclip.org/video/9LU9OiPLKmo/бейне.html
Mine didn't. I just used plenty of glue. And, like I illustrated with that first pipe, it got really messed up because I was too impatient and not careful enough. @Merv's Service Secrets Yeah, Merv, it was a great video. I'm doing some plumbing work to replace a line of copper pipe with PVC, and I was looking at some videos on how to glue PVC pipe. Your video popped up about taking apart PVC, so I thought it would be good to watch. I had no idea Sam Elliot would be narrating. LOL But, I gotta tell ya, the best part was your line about your show being an artificial recreation of an actual do-it-yourself show that never existed. LOOOOOOOL I can't even tell you how much I loved that line. In fact, that one line alone made it worth watching, although it was also really cool to see you take apart a glued PVC fitting. Well done, Merv.

Dayum Merv,,, you made that look easy.... You must have an engineering background. Look forward to more DIY vids from you...Thanks

Happy to help!
A man of your eloquence is certainly worth subscribing 😊
Welcome aboard! You are clearly a man of good taste!
It definitely works! I just saved a fitting and now I can continue my 3 inch pipe. Thank you
Oh yeah, it was a 3” to 2” bushing. Had to use a hole saw to cut some of it out first then it’s less to heat.
Fantastic!
Thanks! you remind me of my heatgun! I have the same problem with my pool filter pipes!
No problem!
Great video! This totally convinced me to give up on trying to melt this fitting out. Just gonna cut it and replumb. LMAO
Go for it!
With the great Texas Blizzard of February 2021 I have some pipes to fix and this video has helped me out a great deal and made me laugh out loud!!!😂🔧

Plumbers have torches not heat guns. Just use a torch on low to heat the pipe. It will turn black but its coming out anyway. Love the narration!
Thank you very useful

I think at the end of every video you should say" Time to hit the old dusty trail." With that voice it would be great. Love the video.
Great idea
Awesome .. i learnt some thing ... thank U
I have the tool that has a guide on it you hook to your drill and it cuts out the pvc part and keeps the good pipe clean and on damaged

Glad you found it useful.
Video is very good n narration is first rate 😂🤣👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Very funny. My heat gun is in COVID quarantine so I am borrowing my wife’s hair dryer. Will also try the gas pipe suggestion on unwelcome relatives.

this guy is hilarious! and i got the info i needed. Thanks Merv! Now ill go eat some of that delicious Golden Brown PVC pipe "marshmella"

Too old to change, but I know what you mean.
Just use a saw's all and replace all the pipes it's way faster and easier.
If you really look at the configuration of these pipes, in this case, I do not believe it would be easier.
If a union had been installed you wouldn't have had to ruin so much pipe. And I'm not even a plumber.
You're hilarious!😂
