Kenny is truly showing the difference from a role players mentality and a superstar/star mentality.

@Jay Hughes The difference is Shaq wasn't scared to get fouled. He still scored. He still went out and gave it 100%. Ben doesn't even look at the basket. He barely scores.

@Jay Hughes don’t say that as if Ben Simmons is better then Shaq. That’s the quickest way to prove you know nothing about basketball.

@Christopher Thomsonto be fair though shaq has openly said if you aren’t a top ten player he doesn’t know who you are. Shaq’s basketball knowledge isn’t that deep, he’s 100% right here though

But you expect every player to have a superstar mentality. That’s why they’re in the NBA. Ben Simmons has all the talent in the world. He should be better.

@Big T Okay. Many people can use both hands in sports, almost always one hand predominates.

@Kenny Hudson the percentage players shoot from 3 and 16-23 feet (long two’s) is negligible on average, and the 3 is worth more. It’s only a low percentage shot relative to shots at the rim or in the paint, and even then it’s worth more.

Ben Simmons has ONLY 1 freethrow made in two months. ONE. This stat is nearly statistically impossible in the history of the NBA unless you are absolutely avoiding contact.
He is refusing to score and his defense is not great, he had only ONE block last month, while still commuting too many fouls.

    • Reginald Burgess

He's not refusing to score, he's refusing to take a shot unless he knows that he's going to make it, and he's scared for the most part that he'll make any shot besides a dunk or layup, which is why he won't take shots at the rim in which he'll be contested cause if he's fouled and doesn't make the shot he has to go to the free throw line and we know what horrors are there for him

What’s also an issue is people forget that drawing fouls is not only about making the ft’s, it puts pressure on the defense, creates foul trouble which can result in key opponents sitting down for long stretches and making a defense as a whole affraid to foul. Just be aggressive, he used to be able to dunk, drive etc with ease, he should be the spearhead in a team focused on fast breaks when he’s in the game. It’s bonkers what’s happening, it’s 100pct a mental issue which he doesn’t seem to be able to overcome (yet). It’s similar to amazing players having a devastating injury and never play the same after, not because they can’t, but the trust in their body and/or fear or what could happen. Hopefully Ben gets there one day, but it’s really concerning he had so much time to work through it and still has games like this.
I’m also starting to think he’s just lost the love for the game too.

"he’s just lost the love for the game" dude never had it. the guy has played basketball his entire life and not once has he ever tried of actually improving his game. dude won't ever be able to "overcome" it. with how many years he's been in the league without improving you think he's gonna suddenly just change that? you can't teach heart.

Basically if Simmons won't score a defense really only has to worry about 4 players. This totally changes the spacing on the court.

    Kennys insight is dead WRONG.
a 0 point and 13 assist game is in most cases a net negative. Most of his assists are not from shot creation, but its just him swinging the ball around because he doesnt want to shoot or from stationary handoff passes. His 9 boards are also overrated, because most are just completely uncontested defensive boards. He is literally not doing much of anything, and in a game where you need to score 120 points to win, his 0 points and half empty assists literally mean next to nothing!

All Ben needed was to put up 12 points and they win this game. Even if he missed every free throw that is only 6 layups. 12 points, 9 rebounds and 13 assists is a good statline for a low scoring point guard, just look at Jason Kidd and Rajon Rondo. Neither of them were great scorers but they could at least be a threat with the ball in their hands.

@Rap yes but he has assists because he is passing up scoring the ball entirely.
It's like good guards CREATE assists/shots by being a *SCORING THREAT* and passing the ball when it's optimal.
He is passing the ball in situations where he should be *SCORING* so that assist is literally worthless is the point.

He had a total 13 assists in the game, that looks good if you don't know the details. Barkley's point was he already had 10 assists at the half, but at the more crucial 2nd half where he was supposed to step it up, he only had 3 assists...and still, zero points.

They are right Kenny. He had 10 assist at halftime and ended with thirteen assist 0 points. That’s not good . Going 0 for 3 is not being aggressive offensively and that’s what they need from Ben. They need this from Ben with Kevin Durant on the floor but especially when he’s not there

@Spends Shanks He signed that 2yrs ago, that was what he was worth at the time. That was his market value. He isn't that guy anymore. You can't base expectations that you expect to be met on his salary, it has to be based on his actual ability & play. The guy already has the money, now the team has to worry about his play based on his role. Do the Nets force him to take 20 shots a game? No. You know why, because that's not his role.

    • Scrotumus Baggins
Scrotumus Baggins 2 ай бұрын +3

@Wilson His salary has everything to do with what you should expect on the court. Look at the opinion GSW fans have of Poole after receiving that big extension versus before as a result. And from a logistics perspective, if I pay you more money, that means I can't pay other people more money, so I need you to perform at a high level taking up (30%?) of the salary cap.
