When I first discovered Nightwish many, many years ago I was instantly drawn to their music. However, after listening to them a few times, I quickly got sick of it because although Tarja's voice was undeniably beautiful, it sounded kind of similar in every song. But when Floor came in, it felt like I was discovering the band for the first time all over again. She makes every song sound so much more dynamic and adds so much energy, emotion and versatility to them. Now I can say Nightwish is one of my favorite bands because of her. I am not saying in any way that Tarja is an inferior singer but I do find Floor a much better fit for Nightwish.
I know exactly what you mean. A friend first introduced me to Nightwish like 16 years ago, and I thought they sounded pretty cool, but they didn't really hook me. I added a few songs to my playlist, but never really actively sought out more Nightwish or followed what was going on with the band or anything. I was so out of touch that I didn't even realize that Tarja wasn't still their singer, until somewhat recently. But now that I've heard Floor, I can't stop listening to Nightwish.
I've only been listening to them for 8 months or so and I'm so deeply impressed by Floor's vocals I can't even bring myself to listen to either of the previous ladies.
Sums up my experience pretty much. When Tarja 'left' at first I was shocked because I have grown accustomed to the sound, but it still had to grow on me back in the days. Also when I found out Floor was joining NW I was filled with national pride (being dutch): A dutch singer joining NW! I love how the band have that synergy and are enjoying the music and performing it. It makes me enjoy the music even more. This is of course more apparent live: great energy and I totally makes me happy for them that they can enjoy this live themselves. The best way to judge a band is to see them live, and they absolutely kill it. And Floor just rocks in stage presence, vocal control and appearing as a member of the band, not just as a singing addition to the band. Still I do also love Annette's voice on for example Amaranth. I do also listen to Tarja's work now and then and I like that as well, so it's not like I don't appreciate her singing.
Nightwish needs to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Very few could ever hope to match the level of story telling, performance and atmosphere they create. Combining metal, rock, operatic and folk elements, and symphony orchestras to create such incredible scores unworthy of movies. It shouldn't work, but it does and it does it so well.

@David Bentley I think that's a difference between the european and american mindset. Conquering whatever is not really on our agenda. Been there, done that. There are greater and more desirable things to do and to achieve. Like for Nightwish, being the unmatched No. 1 within their music genre for decades. And making music that they love themselves and having people on stage that they want to have there. You will never have them a Lady Gaga wiggling next to them on their stage, while looking like they wish someone would nuke them right then and there (referring to that one concert of Metallica - a band who did conquer Northamerica).

Who wants to be called Rock & Roll if they are Metal? Nightwish has been inducted into the Metal Hall of Fame in Finland. They have a museum dedicated to them. And a musical. And a movie. And a whine. And archeological findings. And newly discovered animal species. So, yeah.
I really love Tarja Turunen's vocals, but Floor Jansen is collectively the best Nightwish vocalist. Just look at her power and charisma! A real Valkyrie! With love from Russia!
@Majid Daher Yes, I'm serious. I started listening to nightwish because of Tarja, then I stopped listening because of Annette, and when I saw Floor, I realized that this is what nightwish needs. Tarja is very good. But Floor is better. You will find many thousands of videos on youtube of reactions to the ghost love score performed by Floor and she is really good, charismatic, artistic. There is a video where they sing together at a concert. When they sing together on stage at the same time, this difference is immediately visible. Tarja is very good, but she is far from Floor

I am a 68 year old man who discovered this group after watching a video using one of their songs. After listening to all of their songs on here, I have to admit that Nightwish is an awesome band and Floor Jansen is spectacular. My favorite without question!
I'm 63y, I have enjoyed music since I was 13y. Music has been my favourite hobby for 50 years. I have tens of thousands LP:s and Nightwish is one of the best of all what I have listened. I have seen them in live now 4 times - and never get enough. Despite they live near me ;-)

There was no roof left on Wembley Arena that night, incredible concert! First concert I'd ever been to where people in the balconies were up and dancing. Thank you for a magical night, Nightwish.
