It's tough to see if Brady still had it this year or not. Yes prime Brady might have been able to carry the team further, but it's a legitimately difficult task for a pocket passer (compared to someone more mobile like Mahomes etc.) to thrive when the Bucs are bottom tier for pass protection %, dead last in rushing, and at one point led the league in drops. I could see a world where he finds a team with better pass protection and run game and ends up doing pretty well.

    • Alex C

@Sir_Valion I agree, I'm a huge Brady fan. I think given his circumstances they did as best as they could. Although there were some missed throws here and there that I'm not used to seeing from him. Could just be that he was so unsettled in the pocket though.

    • Sir_Valion

@Yeezus Dropout LOL. Moss 1 year. Branch was mediocre. Edelman admits Brady made him. Antonio Brown 1 year. His run games were seldom much better than average.

      Sir_Valion Ай бұрын

@Alex C That's fair to ponder, but since those questions are in play, it's unfair to conclude that he lost anything. A 45 yo passed 700+ times. A 25 yo would be tired in that predicament.

Here’s what I believe his mentality is: he won’t go out if he’s on top because winning is what motivates him to keep playing, as we saw when he won Super Bowl LV. The only way he’s gonna quit is if he physically can’t do it anymore and continues to lose. So although he SHOULD’VE retired when he was on top, that’s just not the way he thinks. He’s gonna play until he’s got nothing left

    • Sir_Valion
      Sir_Valion Ай бұрын +1

He already said that he would rather play and lose than not play.

@X ACE X I was only responding the idea that he should retire on top. Those other reasons you listed weren't apart of your original comment, you added those after I responded to you. And what did these last 2yrs do for his legacy you ask? I don't work for ESPN or Fox so I don't look at a players career the same way you do. The man has 10 SB appearances & 7 rings, that is his legacy. These last 2yrs have been remarkable just simply because of his age. His play hasn't been great but why would that hinder his legacy, he's already solidified. I agree that he's putting himself in harm's way & that at his age he needs to hang it up now before he seriously hurts himself. The retiring on top thing is just nonsense to me.

    • X ACE X
      X ACE X 2 ай бұрын

@Wilson I like how you just ignored first two reasons I listed. But anyways, injury is a completely valid reason as well. Also, when he won Super Bowl LV, he proved that he could win on another team, which was literally the only accomplishment he had left, which he didn’t even need to do to be considered the greatest. So again, what have these last 2 seasons added to his legacy?

    • Wilson
      Wilson 2 ай бұрын

@X ACE X You didn't say he should retire because of health concerns, you said he should've retired while on top. Athletes want to play. Retiring while being on top is fan talk, guys at his position retire when they can't get a job anymore.

The most refreshing thing about the Cowboys win is that they actually had to stop themselves from scoring at will. That was the performance of a "dominant" team. Hopefully they'll take that energy into San Francisco(along with a good game strategy).

Dude is 45 and is showing he’s human. lol. The fact he went that long is crazy. I think he can still play but you gotta build a tight system around him and have a Niners-style offense where he can dump it to a Deebo or CMC.

    • Apple Sundae
      Apple Sundae Ай бұрын +1

IMO, the only way Brady wins another Super Bowl is if the Niners lose this year, trade Trey Lance, let Jimmy G walk, and sign Brady to a 1 year deal with whatever left they can offer and Purdy is his backup for that year. All he'd have to do is feed CMC, Deebo, Kittle, Aiyuk, etc and not sell.

Tom's most successful days where when he had a RB who can catch, and plays where the passing game routes where between the 5 to 25 yrd range, then he goes deep. Bill had a game plan, and it was play the long game( 3 yrds here, 5 yrds there, then work the TEs for bout 10 to 20) while not putting my Defense in harms way. Control the clock.

I think if he was on a team that he trusted could get him to a super bowl he would be fine with taking shots to get there. My intuition is that he doesn't fully trust in the level of his team and that plays a big part.

  • YertleTheTurtle8
    YertleTheTurtle8 2 ай бұрын +8

With the right team I think he can still do it. I’d still take Brady over a lot of QB’s.
I’m sure this isn’t the way he wants to go out but he also might find himself in a situation where the team doesn’t even make the playoffs.
I can’t see him going to a trash team just to play longer. That would be sad. He needs to at least be on a team that has a chance.

  • Mike Pelosi

If he ends up at a team with a great offensive line he’ll be okay. He is still better than other QB options in the league and that’s the ultimate decision maker.

There was a run game last night, Rashad White was running just fine. But they abandoned the run after Lenny came up short a few times. Never tried White again. That goal line INT could have been an easy rushing TD for White.

    • Sir_Valion
      Sir_Valion Ай бұрын

@Awesome Finish White averaged 3.7 yards a haul on the year. That sucks and is bottom of the barrel for the league. His one good run while Dallas is jumping out to a big lead doesn't scream "run more". You're just talking cliches with no real substance. There is no reasonable prospect that running more would have made anything better.

    • Awesome Finish
      Awesome Finish Ай бұрын

@Sir_Valion So, White got a first down, got us halfway to the sticks with another run and had a loss of 2. So you abandon him and run? Nah. You keep saying the run game stunk throughout the season. And I keep saying if they benched fornette like they did in the seattle game, we'd have had the same result as that game with White, a better run game. Watch Fornette as he dances in the backfield every single carry. He's a power back. He relies on speed and his weight to break tackles.

    • Sir_Valion
      Sir_Valion Ай бұрын

@Awesome Finish Yeah, Lenny sucks unless he's hungry, and the idiot Licht stifled that with the big contract. Point is, -2, 4 and 12 yards is no enticement to keep running when you're falling behind, considering your run game has been dead last all year.

    • Awesome Finish
      Awesome Finish Ай бұрын

@Sir_Valion so a 4 yard carry and 12 yard carry are bad? White had an average of 4.6 yards per carry which isn't bad. Maybe if they fed him the ball more often during the season his production in the playoffs would be better. Either way, he's a better back than Lenny and I stand behind that.

    • Sir_Valion
      Sir_Valion Ай бұрын

@Awesome Finish It was 18-0 at the half. White's runs were -2, 4, and 12 yards in the first half. Fournette added 3, 4, 6 and -3. That's nothing to hang your hat on. They had the worst running game in the league, but you think the key was them running more. There is nothing about that running that would make you want to run more, especially when you were behind 12-0 after just 24 minutes.

This is exactly why I stand by my take(and pretty much everyones take lol) that he should have retired after last year. 5,316 pass yards, 43 TDs, 12 wins, 2nd in MVP voting with a solid arguement that he should have won it, a playoff win, and almost came back to beat the eventual SB champs in another herculean effort. May not have won the SB, but he could have been the 1st QB to play as long as he did and still say, "I still went out as the best, no one knocked me out of this game." Watching last nights game was hard, it was like watching Jordan with the Wizards lol. Yeah he had his occasional great moments but it's clear he shouldn't be playing anymore. I mean numbers wise he was still a top 10 QB, but he's not winning anymore SBs and that should be the only reason Tom continues. The Dolphins and Niners are the only teams I think he can win a SB with, but the Niners will continue with Purdy and they still have Lance backing him up. Idk how the Dolphins will deal with Tua going forward tho

Honestly its rare for the greats to go out on top. What makes them great to begin with is the same thing that makes them play until theres nothing left. You see it all the time in sports. There are actually very few Barry Sanders-type. Most of them go out a shell of themselves. That competitive that made them great is a blessing and a curse, and the same thing thats gonna make Tom play until they stop offering him jobs.

For some odd reason Todd Bowles rarely receives criticism. The buck stops with every other coach except Todd Bowles. He's gotten a pass all year.
Bowles didn't even deserve the position to begin with. Before the season he had a 37% career winning percentage and a 28% winning percentage his last three seasons with the Jets.
Abysmal numbers like that makes me wonder why he was even considered for the position to begin with, let alone hired. It sure wasn't his credentials. I'm guessing they needed more 'diversity' at the head coaching position

@M D its always about rhace. You know how bowles got the job, so there is no mystery. Leftwich seems to be out and they were hyping him up. They also said that brady was helping to orchestrate the offense.

    • M D
      M D 2 ай бұрын +2

@Thebrothaisback my comment had nothing to do with black coaches as a whole and nothing to do with Tomlin. My problem is with Bowles not receiving criticism for the Bucs performance this season while every other coach does, and why he was even considered for the position in the first place with a losing coaching record.
I only brought up race because there's nothing in Bowles resume that qualifies him for the job. Since his resume doesn't check the boxes then it leads me to believe diversity may be the only reason he got the job.

I can't imagine Tom Brady wants to move to the same division as Kansas City and the Chargers. Then still have to think about Burrow and Allen. Too much power in the AFC for Brady towards the end of his career.

    • Ash S
      Ash S 2 ай бұрын +1

Reestablishing him in the AFC West primarily will show everyone how he's still an elite Quarterback. Can show he can still hang with the young kids. Because he can. Him goin to the Raiders will continue to dominate and show great games. It's the wild west for a reason. AFC always been a war zone. The Chargers aren't a threat. Carr with a wounded weak team his whole career has plenty wins against the Chargers. The Broncos aren't a threat. Russell Wilson is still a great QB and will give good games. The Real threat to the Raiders have always been the Chiefs. And frankly, I want the Chiefs to be on a losing streak so bad. They needa be taken off their throne. We definitely can through Tom Brady. Granted it'll be only for a year or two, but it will make a difference.

I think Brady should stay in the NFC because as a whole, it's not as good as it used to be. I don't see the Raiders competing with Buffalo, Kansas City, Cincinnati, or Baltimore. But Todd bowles is a terrible head coach and defensive coordinator, Tampa would have to make major improvements to the offensive line if he stays.

If I’m Brady and I’m not retiring, I’m definitely not going back to Tampa. I think he lands in Las Vegas, San Fran, or Tennessee. I think Vegas has the offensive weapons, but the defense is mid-tier and Josh McDaniels is a big question mark at head coach. Brady knows McDaniels better than anyone, so him signing there really depends on if he thinks McDaniels can be a guy at HC. San Fran seems like a dream scenario, you plug Brady in with all those weapons and defense and it’s a Super Bowl almost guaranteed. The problem is they don’t know what happens with Purdy, Lance, or Jimmy G. I think Tennessee is a sleeper landing spot for him. He gets to go to an easy division, he has a great defense and a great run game, and he reunites with Mike Vrabel who we know is a proven HC. Tennessee brings in a couple of star offensive talent, it’s over.

    • Apple Sundae
      Apple Sundae Ай бұрын

For San Fran, it only happens if they don't win the SB this year. Otherwise, they just run it back with Purdy. If SF does lose, then they can let Jimmy G walk, trade Trey Lance, and offer a 1 year deal to Brady with as much as they can offer for that year to win now.
If it happens he'll have a chance to win 8 and double the great Joe Montana's ring count while winning for his childhood team 🤯

It's a shame that he didn't have the protection and run game all year. He led the league in pass attempts and pass completions. 66 pass attempts is an awful lot of throws for ANY QB to throw in a game let alone a 45 year old! Brady does look like he lost weight. You can see it in his face.

There's not a competitive team with a quarterback slot open. Any team Brady can go to needs more time than he likely has left playing to reach the standard. The NFC south is realistically the only division where he can bet on a playoff spot.

@Baltej Bains yes but Joe Mixon had a pretty decent year in 2021 - teams have to respect the run = different defensive packages leaving WR's more 1 on 1 matchups. The bucs had 60% of their plays perfectly covered by Dallas for this reason, compare to wildcard avg of 34%. There isn't a pocket passing QB, including Burrows, that would do well against that when your run game is nonexistent and when there's no one to throw to as a result. Are you just arguing to argue for no reason lol.

@Baltej Bains Not saying what Burrows did wasn't impressive, I'm a fan myself. But Bengals did average 40 more rush yards a game than the Bucs. It helps the QB a lot when the defense knows they can just leave the box empty to cover up the WRs.
