@Fab Dad How do you know he's not attracted to boy butt? Just because he hasn't tapped yours yet doesn't mean he wouldn't like to, does it? That's like him thinking he knows what sex a person sees themself as. He has no idea, he just thinks he knows.

@Rob Neeth I'm always looking to self-improve. I think it should be my, yours, and everyone else's, life's work.
What is the monument of garbage you are referring to?
      I'm intrigued. 🍿
Incidentally Rob, where do you live? Not your address obviously, country is fine. I'm curious.

    • Rob Neeth
      Rob Neeth 10 сағат бұрын

@RIghteous Shift That's very elaborate for an excuse. But why build monuments of garbage when you can build something useful? Spend your mind on self-mastery, and you'll have far better things to do than delude yourself, and will have far better rewards.

    • RIghteous Shift

@Rob Neeth They are in a conversation from a literal point of view. There's obviously an adversarial element to it, which is traditional in British debates, from dry philosophical examples to comedic exchanges.
We could discuss the merits and drawbacks of this approach but I personally enjoy seeing someone's claims put under pressure by the adversarial, devil's advocate approach.
It forces the claimer to assess the merits of those claims, and fend off criticism.
If successful, the claim is now stronger and in either case, the audience gets to consider both sides of the argument.
John Stuart Mill is one of those geniuses people seem to have forgotten about, despite his work being foundational to the world they live in.
A far smarter man than myself or Peterson, he said _"He who knows only his own side of the case knows little of that."_
I heartily agree and it's why I like the devil's advocate approach to interviewing illustrated here.

@RIghteous Shift So you actually think this woman is trying to have a conversation?

    • RIghteous Shift
      RIghteous Shift 12 сағат бұрын

@Rob Neeth I rather enjoyed the melodrama you've created in your mind.
This simple lady, depressed and hooked on opiate solutions, finds herself facing off against her worst fear.
A thin academic, dressed to kill, holding her.....accountable.
This fiction is lovely and all but understand it exists within your mind. If you accept that, I'm all for you writing a screenplay for *Peterson: The Movie.* I'll have popcorn at the ready for the summer release. You have talent for writing and I love to see that promoted.
Back to reality though. Rather than construct a fictional narrative of the interviewer's life (fun though it is) let's focus on what we can observe _empirically_ and go from there.
Peterson gets annoyed when his axioms are challenged. Yet challenged they should be.
He frequently asserts his opposition to identity politics - he does so here at 4:00. I agree with him and think this is a subject worth investigating. So, let's approach this empirically.
Which are the largest identity politics groups? This is easily ascertained by a quick sweep of the population.
The answer is religious groups and nationalist groups.
All other groups are smaller in size. Feminists, numerous ethnicity-based groups - all smaller in number. Sometimes louder on social media, but in terms of numbers, if we are to look at identity politics, religious groups and nationalist groups are those we should address first, given their population size.
Does Peterson focus then on critiquing these?
      No.
He instead leans toward critiquing the groups his base are more hostile toward. And studiously avoids critquing these two groups. They pay his wages on patreon after all and the dog won't bite its master's hand.
This is intellectual dishonesty. It needs to be crushed so Peterson can grow. At the moment, he is focused on making money and optimising his approach that way.
It saddens me as he's an intelligent man who can do better. For now though, he's discounted as a serious political analyst because of this money-driven bias. He's also very weak on philosophy, history and economics but that's a whole different story. I still think he has interesting things to say about psychology though, and he should remain in that field, where his knowledge and understanding is deep, and avoid the other spectrums of knowledge where he is weak.
I did enjoy your story though, you have talent for writing and I hope you keep it up. Just assess Peterson on his merits, not on the herd zeitgeist measure of the man.

@Greg Conquest - gc I mean his field of expertise is psychology yes, but he's also a generally well educated man. He's right on some level that the climate involves everything, but it's not a good excuse to ignore specific climate issues just because climate means everything of course. He's not an expert on climate change, but I don't see any issue with him talking about it.

Or used to be, anyway. He seems to have lost his mind in the last few years. Jordan Peterson said in January 2022, on the Joe Rogan podcast:
      ---
“Climate and everything are the same word, and that’s what bothers me about the climate change types. It’s like, this is something that bothers me about it, technically. It’s like climate is about everything. OK. But your models aren’t based on everything. Your models are based on a set number of variables.”
“So that means you’ve reduced the variables - which are everything - to that set. Well, how did you decide which set of variables to include in the equation if it’s about everything?... Because your models do not and cannot model everything.”
“What do you mean by everything?” Rogan asked.
“We have to change everything … The same with the word environment. That word means so much that it actually doesn’t mean anything. Like when you say everything, like in a sense that’s meaningless. What’s the difference between the environment and everything? There’s no difference.”
“So this is a crisis of everything? It’s like, no, it’s not. Or if it is, if it really is, then we’re done because we can’t fix everything.”
      ---
Peterson is great when he's talking about social psychology, but he speaks with as much conviction on stuff he doesn't know what he's talking about. The adulation Peterson gets online is unbalanced. I do not say it is his fault, or that his underlying philosophy is to blame. But what explanation is there for a psychologist pontificating on a separate physical science? Talk about not staying in your lane! Peterson is the equivalent of a drunk driver. He appears to be drunk on the adulation he gets, and that warped adulation has warped Peterson as well.

I met JP last month in Cincinnati (after an entire year of waiting). I've never been happier in my life. As soon as it was my turn to get a picture with him for the "meet and greet", anxiety hit me hard. It's so weird meeting someone you admire. I've listened to every one of his debates, speeches, and audio books, and he's genuinely changed my life. Anyways, it was my turn to walk up to him for a picture and I got major butterflies. I looked at him and choked up a little. I said "my heart is pounding so hard. You are my personal hero Dr. Peterson."
He smiled, looked into my eyes, and asked what my name was. I told him and he shook my hand and said "It's a pleasure to meet you, Peter."
His speech that night was incredible, insightful, and downright beautiful. The man radiates warmth, kindness, and compassion. I'm so glad I got a chance to meet the person I admire most in this world. He genuinely makes me want to become my best self.

What is so brilliant about this hostile interview is that he is able to clarify his ideas and sometimes as he is thinking about them at the moment and the consistency of his arguments based on the principle of the sovereignty of the individual and dangers of identity politics. And that is a good thing and he has actually thought about it. We need more people to think honestly and coherently in our culture. She clearly wanted to play identity politics and he would have no part in it and called her out on it.

@ciaran perry If that was the case, then people normally acknowledge the other’s person’s wisdom. She never did. She just chose to move on. In my experience, people only do that when they are prideful and don’t want to admit the other person has a point. It takes great humility to admit someone’s argument changed your mind. That’s why the goal should always be to obtain truth because you are never “defeated” when you gain the truth. In gaining truth you ALWAYS win.

@sahil bishnoi What does a law enforcing body do that cancels the interactions between men and women? It has nothing to do with the dynamics between men and women. The differences and similarities between the men and women are not negated by a police force, they will always be there. You are putting a simplistic view on the subject matter being discussed. It seems you think of power being drawn to women through technology as well as cultural change. Peterson does not advocate male power of dominance over female autonomy. He advocates men become competent, as many of them are. From that they will attract a women if they want to because an intelligent women understands he will provide for her and their family.

I can respect different opinions and perceptions but doesn't mean I can't call out "crazy" when I see it. I can only conclude you find it reasonable because it's something you would do. I think the interviewer was reasonable, even though I would've like it more if she didn't interrupt that much, but well, she has a show to run and only so little time to do it. She had to risk being offensive to go through all the topics they wanted to go over and if those topics followed a clear agenda... I guess that is another thing

It’s an example of how a totally rational and scientific person can also have cognitive dissonance in certain subjects.
Having said that, on the topics he talked about in this interview and how he handled this, he was spot on!
British interviewers usually always play the devils advocate to explore the interviewee’s ideas. Sometimes confused for actual view of the interviewer. However, this interviewer was totally biased and tried to debate way above her intellectual level. The unfortunate demise of British journalism in practise.

It truly feels like she is so convinced of her own truth, that whenever she hears something that logically shows her ideas to be untrue, she just goes blank and just doesn't allow it to integrate into her believes and moves on to the next subject still wondering slightly what just happened a few moments ago and why it didn't go as she imagined.
Like when she asks "there's literature on gossip and innuendo?" Like she has no idea that is actually (like peterson says) "a well documented field". And you'd expect that after finding that out you'd reconsider what you said before that moment when you still thought he was just making this stuff up. But none of that. She just plows through without the slightest hint of actually having processed any of the answers she gets. It is an hour long of "I am right and I don't quite understand why my quest says different things than I expected but lets go on regardless"

Dr. Peterson is probably the most misunderstood man walking earth. My initial analysis is that it must be exhausting to continually be on the defense; however, after some thought it might not be as strenuous because he doesn’t have to remember to play a character. He simply shows up as himself, and shares information he’s learned over decades of study. People don’t realize he RARELY EVER gives his personal opinion on anything (unless he’s persistently asked to share), his thoughts are based off scientific data and research. I’m always inspired after hearing him speak, God bless you Dr. Peterson!

I think she set a record for the most times an interviewer has rudely interrupted their interviewee, and shifted the conversation when they felt it wasn’t going the way they had hoped.

When she says she isn’t interviewing the clinical literature I almost lost my mind. Jordan is basically telling her that it’s not his opinion, these are just the facts, this is the reality. That’s like saying “I’m not asking the mathematical literature on whether 2+2=4, I’m asking you if you think 2+2=4.” That’s not something you “think” that’s something you know because it is a fact.

These people want to be right so bad especially these female interviewers, that they try to prove Jordan wrong and he destroys them every single time and I love him for that 😂

Literally no idea why these people try to end their careers talking to this man.

It's quite hilarious to witness Jordan nonchalantly countering and check mating this woman who is trying to pin him down. Did she imagine this would be a cakewalk for her? 😂
