Please, please do more dark & moody/moody maximalism content! It's so refreshing to see people embrace this style of decor. We get so much white minimalist boho design (especially for DIYs) but so little of other stuff on the other end of the spectrum.
And the funny part is that that is just one branch of Boho, which has an incredible amount of branches, including colorful Boho, eclectic Boho and dark Boho, not just neutrals and whites.
I don’t like the matching sofa and wall. At least not for a sitting room. Everything being monochromatic on one side of the room while there’s varying color on the other side looks unbalanced. I would save it for a small space like a landing, entryway, or large walkway because it can be very pretty. But I’d want it to be the star of the show, if that makes sense.
I'd love to see more of " use what u have" decorating. Using mostly what people have, but switched up and a few new things added to make things seem new and fresh! Awsome room!
......I agree... I think re- using and Re-purposing certain items one has ,with just a few new things is more relatable to many , since not Everyone has the budget to blow on some of these beautiful pieces that she features .... granted some of them are just given to her or whatever but those of us who don't have that option...??? they're not available to use in a space. ...
We do more and more "use what you have " interior design jobs AND our specialty, my hobby "trash to treasure" interior design jobs. I am always stopping the SUV to check our what was left at the curb for garbage pick up or the dumpster, fix old things up, repurpouse make the trash a treasure into something beautiful for the home.
YES! HGTV used to have a show called Freestyle where they did exactly this. It got canceled though. But they would take things from the rest of your place and dress up the living areas. It was amazing. People have so many things that they could decorate all the rooms with stuff from their storage. More Freestyle!
As a book lover, it always pains me to see her place a POTTED PLANT on top of a stack of books 🥴 other than that the entire room was flawless! Excellent job Alexandra, can't wait for the next makeover! 👏
I've been obsessed with dark green/black/cream as a combo in decor lately, so this room is right up my alley. And the green looks fantastic against the warm brick wall. I really feel like green decor gives the feeling of bringing nature into your home - it's such a great colour.
Y’all knocked this out the park! I love that you were able to thrift the couch and upgrade it with the legs and the cover. So beautiful and cozy! Also give that man James a raise lol his editing skills are always on TEN.
This looks amazing! I love how this makeover came out and the new couches and chairs. She DEFINITELY needs a cat scratcher in her living room though, no matter what new material the couches are. Put a cat scratcher in there! Divert the cat's claws!!!
I just saw one online and it was really a board covered with rope and fastened to the side of the sofa. It looked fine, almost like a decorative panel.
This is so well done! The record display is such a beautiful focal point and the upgrade on the cabinet makes it look so high end. A free couch?!? What a find and it looks amazing.. (BTW, Alexandra you were right; the change you made on the cabinet was a complete 180 ... a complete 360 would mean that you were back to where you started with the cabinet.)
More. Like. This. Please. I love whenever your projects really rethink the layout of the room. This felt like a very relatable space size, and details like the record wall are so so unique and make the space seem like it really reflects the person who lives there. The changes added up to one of the biggest transformations you’ve published.
This is stuuunning! I would have gone with a larger coffee table, it seems a bit far and lost in the middle (one can’t put feet on it nor grab stuff etc while sitting), but other than that, I think possibly my favourite room you’ve done so far
Love that you and DIY Danie uploaded your "Dark and Moody" videos just hours apart on the same day! I got to watch them back to back for my Dark and Moody fix!
It looks really good, *Pro tip never use a paint finish that has a sheen on damaged/patched walls, it shows up every imperfection, especially a dark colour, go for a flat finish
@Maggie Maggie Depends on whose house it is. Not everyone uses flat, even at their own houses. I know I don't. That flat trend is only like 10 years old.
This is SO good. The only problem I have is with all this new expensive furniture she should really have some sort of cat scratching options so they don't get ruined. I love those chairs so much!
Gotta have a scratch post. What I did was take a board about 3' long, wrap it very tightly with sisal rope, and firmly attach it to a wall. The cats loved it as they enjoy standing to scratch. It must be firm and unmoving or they won't use it. Screw it into a stud.
My favourite makeovers of yours are the ones where you push yourself outside your usual style! Great job on this one! I’m definitely matching my next living room to my couch colour!
FYI. You can literally take anything, including a slip cover, bring it to any paint store, and ask them to try to color match it. No searching the internet required. Love the monochromatic look.
ugh, dark and mood is my aesthetic and I loved this! Well done all! I loved the armchairs being so bright too. Would love to see a library room in the future - dark and moody of course! :)
I think it turned out wonderful. I like the new layout, the changes to the record shelf and the colors are lovely. One beef. I am sure the owner of the cat put the little grey cat tree in front of that window so that the cat can sit there and sleep in the sun and look at stuff outside. The hanging cat seat is neat but.....I feel sad that the cat lost their good window spot. That is all.
This was lots of fun, and your creativity is so inspirational. So I have a challenge. I would love to see a non-minimalist makeover! Some of us don’t want to pare down our treasured pieces and would love to display and be surrounded by more pictures, furniture, and items in general. I’d like to downsize but the thought of getting rid of favorite or handmade gifts, travel trinkets, meaningful momentos, and family heirlooms paralyzes me. Help?
Furniture unless u have a big room you may be forced to But pics, artwork , Momentos Trinkets phaps use a display unit or wall maybe? Furniture if u could put them in a different room then only bring them out as needed maybe?
This is my favorite to date! Absolutely love the "dark and moody" vibe (lol). This is sophisticated, comfortable yet guest won't be scared to come in and relax for fear of messing up the decor. Love how you've transformed the kalax. More please !
LOVE this room !! Dark and moody is often so hard to pull off. You DID IT , it looks fantastic and such a cozy and comfy vibe !! That brick wall just adds so much character . PLEASE do more of this type of makeover...I think there are plenty of us out there that want to decorate with warm colors and are tired of the " all white " rooms that have been trending for a while now. Great job guys !!
I’ve noticed the direction tends to be warmth, regardless of how light or dark the color scheme is, it would be nice to see a makeover using neutral to cool tones. Dove grey, forest green, and mauve are like my favorite colors. I also really love ecru.
I'm not normally a fan of "dark and moody" living rooms, I would rather something like your own living room, but this is gorgeous! It's so sophisticated and the record wall is such a great idea.
Absolutely love everything you've done to this room. Will be using the record idea here at home. Hubby has all the old Black Sabbath records and the covers are stunning.....
Wow this room turned out just… I am speechless. Amazing job. I would probably have picked a more grey-ish neutral green for the wall which would look more Art Deco and vintage, this seems a bit too saturated for me but but that’s just personal. I would die to have a room like this in my house. You nailed this makeover for sure!
This was such a gorgeous makeover! The only thing I would have done differently would be to have either a single, much larger coffee table or to have two or even three of the identical lovely table you used. I could never get over how when I got a really large coffee table in my small living room, it dramatically enlarged the feel of the space.
What a beautiful room! Who knew that you can put a dark green sofa against a dark green wall? I'm not ordinarily a big fan of bright yellow, but those chairs look fabulous, setting off the sofa perfectly! The upgrade of the piece she already had for her records was brilliant, set against that beautiful brick wall. I was very impressed with the decor pieces and the design. Well done Alexandra!
There is not pke thing I would change in this makeover. By far my favorite you've ever done and I love everything you do! I collect vinyl and just bought my 2nd kallax unit and I have to do this!
I love the top that you added to the record cabinet. What a great idea! That cover on the couch fit like a glove - looks awesome. The fan was a nice touch to bring the colors together. I enjoyed this one.
OMG if this was my living space I would just scream out loud of pure Joy and happiness! What an amazing make over!!! Really my fav! (hope she liked it too..)
Omg this one goes in my top five favs of your makeovers!! It's so beautifully cozy and you gave the room so much character!! I LAHV it! Seriously 11 out of 10 would live in that space full time and that's coming from someone who loves a bright and airy room.
Omg this may be my favourite of yours yet! (And I do love them all!), the green, the couch, that kallax with herringbone top! the record holders! everything is gorgeous!
LOVE the dark & moody! Last Fall I did something similar in my front room w/the color Prussian blue on the walls. I also have brick in my room. Cool to score that couch for free. The mustard chairs really did it for me!
I think this is my favorite so far. Beautiful and practical, no pink, my favorite combination! Never seen you use a ceiling fan before, we have one in every room. Love the entire thing. And you are totally right about the mirror!
I love your practical (e.g. living with pets) and hands on approach and the always esthetically pleasing result. I also love that you are showing the little mishaps and moments of uncertainty during the process, your way of problem solving and the backstage-chaos. This makes your makeovers so much more real, relatable and encouraging. 😀👍🤗
I love the whole moody vibe, you pull this off also very well! My favourite part, as a DJ, is that you took the records out of the sunlight! Shows you know your stuff 💚👌
I love the way you put a room together. It’s always just right. I don’t have the eye trained yet to add little decorative touches that pull a room together.
Wow what a huge difference, it looks sooo good. Well done. I especially love the record display wall and how you upcycled the record shelving. Fabulous.
Wow, you hit the ball out of the ballpark on this one. This looks like one of those really high and New York apartments. Way to go! I especially loved the rug it really pulls spaces together.
That green sofa against the green wall gives me goose bumps. Jen wanted stylish and she got stylish. Love the vibe with the brick wall, the records on display and the yucca palm. One of your best AG. Fantastic job❤️
This is an absolute favorite makeover that you have done Alexandra, love everything about it. Well done to the whole team. I love the record display, as a teenager of the 70's l have lots and lots of records - l'm stealing that idea 🙂
Love the record wall, the rug, the mustard chairs and the green color. The place really looked elevated. Very elegant and looks expensive. Good job Team AG!
The new furniture placement is excellent. I also thought the remake of the shelving unit was well done and the album wall looks great. My only criticism is that I think an off white linen curtain would have been better.
Looking for a decorator inspo video for my bedroom in my new apartment & your channel popped up. I just bought legs for that Ikea unit! What an excellent idea. Now I am going to spend all night binge watching your channel. New sub activated!
For sure best one yet! I have a very dark green wall in my living room and I needed new ideas to help kick it up a notch, and this episode is the vibe.
Wow!!! Love the dark and moody!!! I wasn't sure about the accent chairs but it turned out amazing. And that kallax looks like a totally different piece. Would love to see more of upcycling old furniture
This green is surprisingly similar to the one Sorry Girls used in their latest video. This color is really growing on me. Love the makeover btw ♥️ Its elegant and vibey.. ☺️
Love this makeover! I’ve been hesitating to get a Benz cover and pretty pegs legs for my thrifted ikea sofa but I really need to. I saved so much getting it used so I might as well splurge on making it pretty.
I thought so too. I would have been ecstatic and crying to see this beautiful space. You and your team are amazing. I wish you could cone and name over our space... Well done again!! Fiona.
Alexandra!!!! Painting the wall and the couch the same color is genius! And the gold chairs pair beautifully with the wall and couch. Bravo, girl!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

I never would have thought to match the paint color to the couch. That's such a good idea for a cozy, cohesive, clean look.
hibernia89 Yeah, I would just flip the room around and have the chairs on the green wall and the sofa back against the brick.
I don’t like the matching sofa and wall. At least not for a sitting room. Everything being monochromatic on one side of the room while there’s varying color on the other side looks unbalanced. I would save it for a small space like a landing, entryway, or large walkway because it can be very pretty. But I’d want it to be the star of the show, if that makes sense.
hibernia89 I agree. A slightly less matchy -matchy green would have been better.
hibernia89 that's fine, we all have different styles. Contrast is good too.

I love thrifting beautiful salad plates, often clear glass and using them under my potted houseplants.
Me too. I can't stop thinking wet books!
BEST MAKEOVER TO DATE! All white walls are cancelled bestie - keep leaning into this rich, colorful, elevated style. Amazing!
Agree, I'm loving these deep solid colours. Delighted to see that old gray couch disappear and the new one getting a vivid new coat.
I've been obsessed with dark green/black/cream as a combo in decor lately, so this room is right up my alley. And the green looks fantastic against the warm brick wall. I really feel like green decor gives the feeling of bringing nature into your home - it's such a great colour.
I would love to see a video of a room done on" use what you have " and upcycle or reimagine how things are used. Love the mood of this one.
Y’all knocked this out the park! I love that you were able to thrift the couch and upgrade it with the legs and the cover. So beautiful and cozy! Also give that man James a raise lol his editing skills are always on TEN.

Yep it needed to be at least six circles not four
My thoughts exactly - loved everything but the rather useless coffee table.Everything else was fabulous.
Yes I agree. I think a nice wooden table would have looked great.
Love that you and DIY Danie uploaded your "Dark and Moody" videos just hours apart on the same day! I got to watch them back to back for my Dark and Moody fix!
Ikr! I had thought she was going to be in Danny’s video cause I saw the title
It looks really good,
*Pro tip never use a paint finish that has a sheen on damaged/patched walls, it shows up every imperfection, especially a dark colour, go for a flat finish
@Marianne DeAngelo Yes that is a good combo too. I had used it with great success in the past.
@vaderladyl I would go as far as eggshell on walls. Easier to clean. I save satin for trim. 😊
@Sunnbuzz Yes big mistake using flat on trim, especially baseboards.
@Maggie Maggie Depends on whose house it is. Not everyone uses flat, even at their own houses. I know I don't. That flat trend is only like 10 years old.
@Graham Hayes I agree. I love some sheen on my walls and walls with character.
This is SO good. The only problem I have is with all this new expensive furniture she should really have some sort of cat scratching options so they don't get ruined. I love those chairs so much!
Cats love cane furniture. No need to go for an ugly cat scratching post.
Great thought. A dedicated scratching post makes it sooo much easier to train kitty away from valued furniture...
There was thought to the couch fabric, but the rug or baskets are going to be inviting to the claws
Gotta have a scratch post. What I did was take a board about 3' long, wrap it very tightly with sisal rope, and firmly attach it to a wall. The cats loved it as they enjoy standing to scratch. It must be firm and unmoving or they won't use it. Screw it into a stud.
As a cat owner, yes, I agree!
My favourite makeovers of yours are the ones where you push yourself outside your usual style! Great job on this one! I’m definitely matching my next living room to my couch colour!
I think it’s stunning. Does anyone else think the cat will choose a gold chair over that hanging basket thing 😉
FYI. You can literally take anything, including a slip cover, bring it to any paint store, and ask them to try to color match it. No searching the internet required. Love the monochromatic look.

Yes. Cats are window hogs, hours of people and bird watching. I'm betting it will be put back in place for the kitty. 🐈🐾
Its so much fun to see a mere vloggy style of the preparations and seeing more of your team speaking into the camera lots of love to everyone !!
This was lots of fun, and your creativity is so inspirational.

Dark and moody isn't even my style, but this is my favorite makeover of yours ever! Amazing transformation!
Yes mine too!
Same! Such incredible execution of the style.
I’ve noticed the direction tends to be warmth, regardless of how light or dark the color scheme is, it would be nice to see a makeover using neutral to cool tones. Dove grey, forest green, and mauve are like my favorite colors. I also really love ecru.

This is 100% my favorite makeover so far! What a great space that I will now try to re-create haha
Love this style so much ! Dark and moody appartments are my favourite😍😍
You did great !!!
Absolutely love everything you've done to this room. Will be using the record idea here at home. Hubby has all the old Black Sabbath records and the covers are stunning.....
This looks soooo goood! Ugh can’t wait to design my new apartment with these tips!!
I Love that you are down to earth and use her own stuff. This makes it so affordable for us low income families.
Wow this room turned out just… I am speechless. Amazing job. I love the top that you added to the record cabinet. What a great idea! That cover on the couch fit like a glove - looks awesome. The fan was a nice touch to bring the colors together. I enjoyed this one.
Noah's living room was one of my favorite makeovers you have ever done. I'm confident this one will be just as great !
OMG if this was my living space I would just scream out loud of pure Joy and happiness! What an amazing make over!!! Really my fav! (hope she liked it too..)
This was fabulous! Great job team AG 💗I loved everything. The detail, the colours, the vibe 👌🏾
You switched it up and I likey! Dark and moody is more my jam! You and Danni really gave me some great ideas this week! Thank you! 😍👍
So glad to see your style evolving and maturing. This is a beautiful room.
Omg this one goes in my top five favs of your makeovers!! It's so beautifully cozy and you gave the room so much character!! I LAHV it! Seriously 11 out of 10 would live in that space full time and that's coming from someone who loves a bright and airy room.
This is one of my favourite makeover's you've done so far! You and your team did such an amazing job!
Hands down, one of your best room makeovers!!!! Love it
Omg this may be my favourite of yours yet! (And I do love them all!), the green, the couch, that kallax with herringbone top! the record holders! everything is gorgeous!
Oh my god, I'm blown away!!! You really elevated this space. This may be one of my favorite makeovers you've done, seriously
Yes! Can we please replace the minimal, neutral, overly-scandi trend with everything dark and moody? More of this! 🥰
This transformation has been the best I’ve seen!!! Loved the rug and the perfect matching of the sofa and wall tones. Great job!!!
ive been watching for years, but i think this might actually be my favorite makeover ever
This one definitely goes in the top ten of all makeovers. Thanks for sharing!
Get that cat a scratching post! The room looks amazing!
I love the way you put a room together. It’s always just right. I don’t have the eye trained yet to add little decorative touches that pull a room together.
I think this is one of my favorite makeovers!! Also James’ editing just keeps getting better and better he’s BRILLIANT
Absolutely LOVE this makeover. So nice to see you shopping your stash and using thrifted items 😍
Absolutely stunning, probably my favourite make over you have ever done
Wow what a huge difference, it looks sooo good. Well done. I especially love the record display wall and how you upcycled the record shelving. Fabulous.
Wow, you hit the ball out of the ballpark on this one. This looks like one of those really high and New York apartments. Way to go! I especially loved the rug it really pulls spaces together.
Your best room yet! Love the design & play on colors. Nice to see you branch out. Nailed it!
I love this space so much! Good work team. Would love to see more like this. So cool to see the RVIVR record on the wall too 😀
That green sofa against the green wall gives me goose bumps.
This is my fave makeover so far. Stunning!
Out of all the designs I've seen you do on this space. This is by far my favorite!
The new furniture placement is excellent. I also thought the remake of the shelving unit was well done and the album wall looks great. My only criticism is that I think an off white linen curtain would have been better.
This has to be one of my favorite rooms you’ve ever done!
Looking for a decorator inspo video for my bedroom in my new apartment & your channel popped up. I just bought legs for that Ikea unit! What an excellent idea. Now I am going to spend all night binge watching your channel.
New sub activated!
Stunning. That green is perfect and the record holder thingies are 👌🏻
For sure best one yet! I have a very dark green wall in my living room and I needed new ideas to help kick it up a notch, and this episode is the vibe.
amazing job!!!! wow! I love everything in this, that record wall and the upcycle of the cabinet is sooo good!
Perfection! And can we just talk about the rug and the throw blanket and how it mimics it. Awesome job Team AG!!
Absolutely amazing! I am loving the green! It looks so cozy now. Great job Team AG!!
Absolutely magical transformation! What a gift you have!
This was one of my favorite designs of yours yet!
Wow!!! Love the dark and moody!!! I wasn't sure about the accent chairs but it turned out amazing. And that kallax looks like a totally different piece. Would love to see more of upcycling old furniture
Love love love this makeover, the colours, the textures, you are so talented, love your channel.
This is my second favorite space you've done right after Carla's! Nailed it!
This green is surprisingly similar to the one Sorry Girls used in their latest video. This color is really growing on me. Love the makeover btw ♥️ Its elegant and vibey.. ☺️
I love the record holders! What a great idea. Lovely makeover
Love this makeover! I’ve been hesitating to get a Benz cover and pretty pegs legs for my thrifted ikea sofa but I really need to. I saved so much getting it used so I might as well splurge on making it pretty.
Probably my favourite makeover on your channel! You absolutely killed it!!
I thought so too. I would have been ecstatic and crying to see this beautiful space. You and your team are amazing. I wish you could cone and name over our space... Well done again!! Fiona.
This has gotta be my favorite makeover to date. I LOVE IT!! Beautiful job on ~~everything~~
I LOVED this makeover. Well done Alexandra. Definitely one of my faves !
Wooooow you did this soooo good!!! This makeover is absolutely one of my favorites! 🤩
Team AG you’ve outdone yourselves 😍 I am OBSESSED!!! BRB going to take all the inspiration from this space and makeover my entire home!
Omg this was by far one of the top 5 best makeovers you guys have done I'm so happy for everyone, so beautiful!!!
Alexandra!!!! Painting the wall and the couch the same color is genius! And the gold chairs pair beautifully with the wall and couch. Bravo, girl!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This is my favorite makeover you have done. I am inspired to copy the record wall, and those colors are perfect. ❤❤
Please do more dark and moody makeovers! This looked so good!!
