The Alumni that largely fund the sports/endowments are generally working Middle Class Americans. HBCU alum have the financial power to fund their own athletic endowments to help fund coaches salaries and team facilities... they just aren't doing it.
The key to this situation was based on a verbal agreement that he would receive a certain amount of money. When it was time to ratify the contract, that amount changed. The proof to this theory is when did they renege on the amount and when did Ed trash the school. I say he trashed the school after they reneged on the contract amount.
Exactly!! 🤷🏾♂️ And that's what has kept the HBCU's from competing with the larger schools for decades. Some schools have had to close down because of it. Bishop College was here in Dallas for decades but by the 1970's and on into the 90's the school struggled financially and the buildings were in horrible shape. The school shut down. It was all due to the leadership after leadership stealing the money. Paul Quinn decided to move to Dallas and took over the school but there are no athletics there now like Bishop College had before the financial troubles wiped it out.
@A Goolsby's Universe Yes it is, simply just go to another HBCU. Silence is always the best route. He can do the same thing he planned at a different HBCU
I am a HBCU alumni. It isn't just about people & alumni not donating money its about the money they're donating disappearing or being used inappropriately.
Ed is completely right. If you're going to bring him in to turn the school around, how are you going to do that showing kids a dirty campus with mold in the dorms? Having the campus clean is literally the first thing in having a viable college
One day at a time putting them on blast proved nothing because I don’t think that they are considering hiring Ed Reed he can’t contain his emotions seemingly
@Antonio Smith yeah...he seems to think he can snap his fingers and everyone is gonna jump right up and do what he tells them too. My guy lmao...ur the football coach
@Antonio Smith so how can I turn the football program around if the school is not changing as well? I can’t say hey this is where you’re going to be sleeping and there’s mold d the school is dirty.
As a recent graduate of BCU 2016-2021 (undergrad and grad)... these problems that Ed brought to the world have always been at BCU. The best thing that can happen from this is that they reconsider Ed Reed to be the HC, because anyone that gets this job now has to have those issues addressed before signing a contract. Let Reed and his donors do that that they told him they would do. And the University keeps its money to go where it's needed in other places.
@Dixon Tee Every coach prior to that knew what they signed up for and didn't have a big name like Ed reed. Why is only HBCU they have to embarrass publicly. I've watch Worst school (Last Chance U) and their coaches ain't publicly embarrass their employer like that. How do you know that football is what generate most money at BCC for them to be stealing? .Cookman ain't even a football school but Ed Reed had the opportunity to build that program into something better but he bashed to school now there's a likelihood that no other player would want play over there a build that school up.
@Wilson Destinkeeping it “ In-house” has never worked. Every coach prior to him has kept it “ in house” and look where that got them. Fired after the administration continued to steal and not support the Football team.
It took the players from Grambling St University to publicly humiliate the university into building a suitable facility for them to practice and play. Sometimes it takes public outcry to get these administrators to get up off of their behinds to do right by the students
I remember that, and I remember them boycotting homecoming because of it. When the students speak out, the schools listen…and they doin it at BCU now. Hope they get the fixes that need to be made.
Yes, the GSU situation was from 2013...it was about a month after Pres. Pogue had fired, Coach D. Williams : See article in USA today below: But among other things, school officials confirmed that Williams regularly tangled with the administration over private fundraising. The tipping point was apparently new flooring for the team's weight room. Yes, Athletic Depts & Pres of Schools tangling with each other is not new. But this situation at B.C. is a bigger mess because you got a never was really hired Coach encouraging kids to protest. Where, Doug Williams was telling his former players to play football...even after he had been let go. This wasn't a social media battle & it only lasted for a few days at GSU.
You get better & faster results when ya do it out in the open. Doing stuff in the dark is why we end up with the bare minimum in all kinds of areas. No American school should have these probs tbh. So yea. Put it on blast no matter where it is.
@Shawn Reece all I can say is...they have major issues at the school. homeless and prostitutes walk through the place...its one mile from the worst road in Daytona. Now they have mold everywhere...its a shame.
@Kae Kae if it made sense for the school to announce his hiring and have him bringing recruits in before the contract was signed, then it made sense for him to discuss these issues before the contract was signed.
@Jon Doe he’s the football coach not savior. If he doesn’t agree with how they handle things then he should go somewhere else. Don’t publicly shame a school then cry wolf when they don’t hire you for shaming their school. I agree they should keep up with their facilities. But, it’s still doesn’t make sense to trash a school you not even hired at yet.
It’s not about the underfunding it’s about the lack of effort and accountability. Why do we expect our coaches to accept less than what they deserve and let these universities sweep these things under the rug? Rare bad take from Unc
If you don't think being Underfunded is not a problem, then tell your Employer ,they can Keep part of what you're owed in Salary for the next 100 years & see what happens.
Cleaning up the football field should be way down the list of priorities at this kind of university. The mold in the dorms is a different issue. A lot of universities, big and small, HBCU, PWI, etc. suffer from these problems.
@It's in the WORD2 he didnt even have the job yet and I'm sure they had other things to attend to with the school other then his office. Folks been complaining about things with this school for years
@Zero Tolerance The public HBCUs are (largely) supported by state gov't and, to a lesser extent, alumni, while corporate/private philanthropy and alumni fund private ones -- BCC, for example.
@gregory carroll Coppin was one of 4 HBCUs here in Maryland that sued the state b/c they had been underfunded for decades!! They won a $577 million dollar judgment. Imagine how much better their weight room would have looked had they got the money they were due.
The one time I visited Bethune Cookman, I was surprised out how bad the conditions were. And I lived in NC, home of FSU, NC Central, A&T, and St. Augustine. The conditions at those HBCU’s weren’t the BEST, but they took pride in the campus and it was clean and kept up to the degree their resources would allow. Bethune Cookman was not thT
@Nicholas Jordan yes but anyone would assume any college would at least have a closet to put helmets without it getting moldy. I doubt any head coach would be looking at such a small detail like that. Also he did find out about it, talked about it openly and lost the job before he even had the job. The contracts weren't signed. But again, if a middle school can store stuff without it getting moldy every college should be able to.
@Nicholas Jordan how is he supposed to know about the moldy equipment? Even in middle school football teams have locker rooms and clean gear. It's assumed that this basic thing, gear not being moldy, is taken care of.
@NatsNewBeginning I'm not playing dumb. I live in Oakland, CA. There isn't a single HBCU west of Texas. That's why I asked the sister a question. You should familiarize yourself w/ that concept when you don't know something. We have our own issues in CA, many of them. There are problems w/ higher ed well beyond the HBCU.
@Cynthia Mosley Thank you for educating me on the ways that your HBCU (and probably many others) can improve. I'm in CA so obviously not in a position to effectuate any of this change directly, but I appreciate the information. One commonality I see across institutions is that there's a lack of mainstream publicity for the good things that these schools are doing in the community. I'm writing a series of articles on CA's community colleges precisely b/c of this problem b/c admin seems uninterested in media.
@Keenan Norris 1. Improved Communications with your Alumnae Chapters promoting the University in their cities and communities. Publish a quarterly or semiannual Newsletter highlighting student and faculty chievements. Progress on facility project. 2. Leverage Community Leaders and publicize All the positive things the University is doing in the community. Everybody wants to support a winner. AAMU has an outstanding Horticulture Dept that allows the community to get fresh vegetables during harvest season but very few are aware of this great outreach. 3. Take advantage of govt grants and contracts. AAMU had a meeting with a senior level officer who was willing to recommend them for a govt contract worth millions but the leadership didn't bother to show up. Instead they sent a lower level staff person who was completely unprepared. Doors are opening for HBCUs but we must be ready to walk in.... Mr. Norris, I could go on and on...
@Cynthia Mosley What exactly are you referring to by a "change of mindset"? I taught community college in CA for over 10 years and am tenured faculty at San Jose St. I've seen more than my share of institutional dysfunction (not so much at SJSU as at the CCs). I also have many friends and colleagues in the HBCUs. What are the specific administrative mindset issues you want changed? (I applaud you for donating.)
Shannon, you know Ed was right on this. The only time HBCUs make a change for the better is when they're publicly outed. Ed knew this and he knew these kids needed someone to stand up for them. NOTHING would have even thought of changing if it wasn't for him
@Grace Stop doing surface thinking if you think anything else Ed could have done would have moved the needle for progress. Think hard and think honestly. What would have caused their administration to start to change?
Still doesn’t change the fact that he “exposed” an organization before he was even officially hired. In what world is that a thing with any organization.
@Keenan Norris The difference between HBCUs and other schools is that HBCUs will change when outed. Normally other schools still won’t do it. And I never have anything against professors and faculty. It’s the head administration and the allocation of funds.
I don't think it was so much Ed blasting the institution than it was Ed getting his story out first, from his mouth, with evidence. It would've been way too easy for the rumors to start circulating and ppl badmouthing Ed for leaving the program, if he didn't show firsthand what he was working with.
OK, but this isn't the NFL. You can only make improvements if you have the money for those improvements. I'm tenured faculty at a major university in one of the biggest cities in America and can tell you we struggle w/ many of these issues as well. We just have more money to fix them. This school has bottom of the barrel funding.
@Kevin Schart disagree. The new world DOES work like that. No matter what the situation or who it is. Politics, sports, etc. people now days try to spin their narrative first in the public, and so called journalists aren’t held responsible for reporting without fact checking. So, yes, the world has changed. And, I know because I’m 56 years old. You have to change with the times when it comes to protecting yourself.
ok so document and keep it for a later time. NOT while you're trying to gain employment. He had to be fired. matter of fact he fired himself with his behavior. the world doesn't work the way you think it does cupcake
This is why I prefer undisputed than first take. Both have controversial takes at times when it comes to sports but when it’s social issues undisputed is miles ahead of first take
@FlyGuyGuru nope he needed ppl attention and the best way to get it now days is to do what he did even deion prime time said Ed was right so .....enough said or nuff sed 😂😂😂😂
As a FAMU alum, it’s sad to see HBCU be viewed in this light. FAMU was an excellent university for me and I recommend anybody to bring their children there.
*It wasn't meant for Ed Reed to Coach Bethune-Cookman. BC wasn't ready for Ed and Ed wasn't ready for BC. I'm just glad the trap house now finally got surveillance footage! This was a necessary punch in the mouth for BC, HBCUs, The Black Community, and the American Community.*
Sad news. Much respect to Reed and Prime. I would trust my young man to them both. Stay strong and true and always stand for truth, and you'll never go wrong
Sterlington Parker you mean Ed was working at school: cleaning, chasing rodents, trying to make it a real facility prior to sigining a contract because he was that commited to doing and being better
@Significant Nobody Salaries and fringe benefits usually cover at minimum about 80 percent of program cost. They dont have money . Most HBCUs barely break even . Look at the Financial reports for BC
@DD all the repairs don't have to be done all at once. Bethune-cookman tuition is about 15k per student and they have almost 3800 students enrolled there. Thats 56 mill right there. Now I know they have salaries etc to pay...but let's not act like these universities don't have the money. They just don't bring in revenue as PWI
Hey Shannon, FYI, Prairie View A & M University (PVAMU) just had a brand new Football Stadium and new Track & Field Facility built in the last few years. This Campus, overall, appears to be a developing small city with new Student Housing Buildings, a new Electrical Engineering Building, etc......
HBCU's have problems that we all know but afraid to speak on. We as a community love to point blame at everyone else for our shortcoming but we dont hold ourself to the same requirment. Have family and been to most HBCU's in Atlanta, Philly and midwest like Morgan, Lincoln, Clarke Atlanta etc. We spend money on houses , cars, other B.S but we dont ever support these schools they way our racial counterparts at their respective university's. I have been hearing and seeing this for 30 years and here we are again. Glad Sanders and Reed at least giving this some light.
Ed saw the results of Prime's work at Jackson state and thought that's what all the HBCU's were doing. I guess he missed the part where Prime was putting in the work behind the scenes and outsourcing for assistance to get Jackson state lifted up. Ed was wrong to blast them like that because there's ALREADY an assumption about HBCUs but the school also needed that pressure applied.
I never been to a HBCU in my life but I’m not surprise man like damn what world ed was in …everybody already slightly know this doing it like this ain’t gonna solve nothing but views not saying be quiet but atleast try to stay for Yu can change it Yu know these people not having that strong approach
Hello Skip and Shannon. I actually went to Bethune Cookman College. Not Bethune Cookman university, but Bethune Cookman College. I totally agree with you. You have to build these schools up. Not just the athletic programs. I was born and raised in Florida. We have not just hurricanes, but also major storms. Takes time to rebuild.
Whistleblowers don't speak to admin because they get fired...just as he did. The interview with the AD at Bethune-Cookman was very telling, the firing was not about his lack of professionalism, it was clearly in retaliation for whistleblowing.
Jackson state was already a step ahead of Bethune-Cookman current conditions before Prime got to JSU, don't know if he could prepared him for what was going on in Florida.
This a bot. “……… fill in the blank….protect at all costs” whenever there is a topic concerning an individual this pops up in the comments. It’s meant to frame the issue as life and death. Watch out for the troll farms.
@will This is where help is needed by removing these corrupted administrators out of there. Just hoping and wishing this will go away won’t help. Giving money doesn’t mean giving it directly to the schools, we can give money to college scholarships that is in place for our young brothers and sister’s. That’s what I do now. But we gotta help get these corrupted administrators out HBCUs. It’s been a long time coming.
@Jay Bee no jay. if someone has proven to you time and time again that you can’t trust them with money, why in the world would you thinking giving more money is the perfect solution?
Problem with some of these smaller schools that are no matter if it is HBCU or not, there are some mismanagement in funds in the athletics department that the money could be used to upgrade the facilities, but not lining the pockets. It is not just that department, but in the education department.
Great conversation. Not totally dogging the school but just giving facts about what Ed did that blew this all up. He should have kept it between him and the institution.
@ISMAEL CORNEILLE I completely agree and it's not pride because I believe this needed to happen. All I'm saying is that it could have been at least discussed first to the admin before going on IG live. Even Ed admitted that in his interview with Roland Martin. That is all I'm saying.
BCU has been a dump for years even before the two hurricanes. The hurricanes didn’t strike them as badly as they’re saying so they’re just using that as an excuse. Also, BCU within the last 5-10 years lost their accreditation for a while. Myself and others I know wanted to go to BCU but because they had lost their accreditation, we decided to go elsewhere.
@David Moody don't get mad at everybody commenting on what you put on there just face the fact everybody is right and had nothing to do with the hurricane the place has been trashed for years sad really sad but true
@David Moody the hurricane had nothing to do with the place being trash for years trust me I know and it's a sad situation but let's not blame the hurricane that just came through here in Florida on the fact that BECU has been trash for years
The hurricanes have nothing to do with it there’s a community college and embry riddle right down the road who haven’t had buildings infested with mold, if you’ve ever lived in Daytona you would know it’s not the hurricanes 😂
Tell you an HBCU story: Attended majority white private high school for academic and athletic purposes. I hated it. Felt like an outsider for 4 years unless I was on the basketball court. Senior year I had offers from several PWIs. Decided to walk on an HBCU. Most parents were apprehensive, never talked to my HS coach after. It was the best decision of my life. It was home. I wasn't the black guy in the classroom or the basketball player. I was family ✊🏿
I hope this can be resolved somehow and Ed Reed can comeback and help manage the changes and lead the young men at this school. I’m praying for the most important part of this story the young men of the football team.
Campus has had these issues going back to 2010. This ain’t nothing new but hbcu people will tell people to not be loud and handle it behind closed doors which doesn’t work because this has been a issue before ed reed. Now people paying attention. And Shannon needs to understand this goes beyond football. Everything there is messed up.
Preach Shannon!!! I went to Virginia Union University and played ball there as well. It is a hard-knock life!!! We maybe black, but we're better than this!!!
@Clutch Breaker Actually Graduated N.Y.I.T Unfortunately the Military moved me around a lot , VCU was just my longest attendance and favorite out of the Five Universities I attended. The Quality of ones education depends more on what a person puts into it, than the campus, the campus mostly provides the experience. I know plenty of people who graduated VCU, VUU, Georgetown, N.Y.I.T & FSU that have the intelligence of bag of pretzels and the success of a Bottomless Boat. A schools reputation is meaningless If the reputation you establish for yourself is trash also.
@Clutch Breaker Yeah, Putting down one institution to celebrate another ain't my thing Fam. VCU & VUU share Sigma Brothers As long as Brothers are getting higher education it's sall love. I leave the competitive rhetoric to those Who participate in such. Now if we're talking Basketball Teams I'll talk smack with the Best of them Go Rams!
I totally agree with Ed on how he feels and to fight for the kids and they do deserve better from the school and community! It would’ve been more appropriate for ed to go the school administration first and discuss these issues privately. If the school knows the problems that ed has brought forth to the school and shows them these problems and they still don’t improve those bad conditions then it would’ve been appropriate to call them out on video if we don’t see those changes!
It seems like everyone wants to be the savior but wants everything in perfect conditions when they arrive. I'm pretty sure there are low-level PWI facing the same issues. Bit pretty sure no one will complain. They say it's all about the kids until someone pays them more and then lash out
This was a BLESSING for brother Ed Reed!! While he shouldn't have posted what he posted (and sincerely apologized)... The school is super PETTY for not moving on past it!! He dodged a bullet!! He saw they didn't clean the field, didnt clear the trash, didnt fix the gate, didnt runoff the homeless folk, or CLEAN HIS OFFICE!!! The kids would have greatly benefitted from him being at that raggedy Traphouse of a school... But the administration put their own feelings and pettiness ahead of the kids!!! He definitely dodged a bullet!!! 💯
@desi ma I saw it. He was still trying to stay for the kids. Then last night I saw where Coach Prime facetimed him and was telling him he know Ed want to stay for the kids but he gotta move on.
And Shannon Sharpe is right, everything is not meant for social media right away. Try to get Bethune to clean it up, go to the Board and others first. Then if you make no headway; then you go to the public.
@Danya Springer not once did Ed Reed say anything about going straight to Admin and discussing it. And even then. You still trashed your school that you not even hired to yet. It’s common sense.
@Kevin Schart lol exactly. Why publicly shame an organization before you even get hired. No org should accept that. And I think we all agree that they should pick up there facilities but that’s not the point.
You talking about the same Shannon Sharpe that could have address Dillion Brooks another brother man 2 man, off court at not at his Job in front of the Public, so social media can make spectacle of it?
We're not talking about the game, were talking about trash 🗑️, picking up trash. The administration needs to be fired. Lawrence drake liying n talking with his Eyes closed while on Roland Martin.
You can’t go on social media to bad mouth your employer and expect to keep your job. Ed had valid concerns but he went about it the wrong way. And the fact he attributed it to the “broken minds” of the people running is filled with condensation and out of touch with reality.
From what we’ve seen from Prime and Reed’s experience with HBCUs, I think leadership especially at the top is rotten at the core. It’s time to replace overhaul HBCU leadership because they seem to be either apathetic or corrupt about their own institutions,
They thought they were getting another Coach Prime but Ed Reed is not Coach Prime. Ed Reed is going to let you know what going on. That why JSU need stop taking about Coach Prime because it things he still know but instead of dragging JSU in the media he just left have he gave JSU so much and got nothing in return. JSU need to thanks Coach Prime for what he did.
The fact that Shannon says that let me know he ain’t see the interview where the kids spoke on it an said the same thing Ed said , said they’re gloves had mold , h sharing helmets smh this is sad
Shannon is wrong. You do need to put the institution on blast when the conditions are that bad and aren't receptive to change, admonition, and improvement.
He didn't see it just like we didn't see it until they just spoke out. Those students and parents should have been protesting before Ed Reed even got there.
Ed too emotional to lead. You can’t cuss out your employer and go live with it. He did that too himself. He means well but he needs serious PR training
I understand where he's coming from but I think it's short sighted he's presence there would have raised the schools profile and perhaps helped them improve their financial situation
The Chairman basically feel the same way and they told the same thing to the Boss in charge but had a law suit on them so there is a lot that you guys are missing. And no not every HBCU including Prey view looks as bad as BCM. Prairie View is actually a clean up to date School.
Kinda mad he threw PV in there. They may not be getting all the money the state of Texas owes them, but the school is in really good shape. Every HBCU is not in the shape they are making it out to be
I love this topic, reminds me of the old Cuban defector story. Should I stay improve my team or should I go pursue personal glory. The golden question.
Ed brought the issues up and they did nothing hence he had to get teams together to get some cleaning done. Cleaning your campus doesn't take millions from donors as clearly shown by Ed.
Jackson State University was already upgrading it's athletics facilities ... Deion helped donated half his salary but Jackson State was already in the process of moving forward ... prime did his homework, not sure if that's the case with Ed Reed 🤷🏼♂️
my high school back in 90s we had just 1 coach for the football team. we did all right, but my 3rd year of high school the football team had to be shut down because the school couldnt afford it anymore.
I don't know the whole story so I disqualify my post as an opinion but I side with SS on this one: this is Missionary work. You can't have expectations of greatness, excellence in a situation like this. You're going to have to be both Superman and Clark (actually a better example would be Daredevil and Rup. Murdock). Keep your head down and grind that ish out and transform it into a powerhouse school in athletics.
This part!!! Sums it up. Just like in education, we take jobs in underfunded schools with parents and students that don't always care, with the goal of leaving the place better than you found it. You show up everyday because you have a job and mission and a calling. Any educator can drag the public school system or you do like most of us and work with what you are given and try your best to make a difference each day. Ed Reed hasn't learned how to get along to get along. I agree with Sharpe, it is a way to handle things.
Those students said there were issues b4 the hurricane. A former student commented on 1 of Roland vids that attended n 07 said the school was like that back then
When passion surpasses diplomacy, potential issues will arise. I believe they should come together, hold a press conference and reconcile for the purpose of future change. While I understand Coach Reeds passion for change, I didn’t understand why he would bring Coach Prime into it. It reminded me of a situation where a young man’s brother was drowning in a lake. His brother jumped in to save him and they both drowned. I pray for BCU and Coach Reed.
Some times it takes calling folks out publicly for them to change, just like with Deion they would keep pushing stuff under the rug bc they thought they could get away with it.
*DAMAR HAMLIN… AT LEAST GET HIS NAME RIGHT. You damn casuals 😮 🤷🏽♂️ Darvin Ham is ex-Texas Tech backboard breaker/current Lakers coach. KNOW. Or don’t speak.
Well Shannon as we find out now it has to do with some Tomfoolery in the upper Management so it really doesn’t have anything to do with ED going off, As a few chairmen of the board said that they felt that they would not be able to control ED Reed.
@james anderson What does being in the top 100 have to do with not needing a come up?If Deion Sanders and Ed Reed were all that they wouldn't of had to go to a HBCU schools to look for a coaching job a power 5 school would of hired them ASAP but nobody wanted either one. We'll see how much winning Deion Sanders does at Colorado. As for Ed Reed he isn't coaching material. His Instagram rant should of proved that.
@David Moody You have been misinformed and really just talking? Dieon said he was doing 4 years there?? He never gave a specific time. Ed fell on his face? He never coached a game there. Celebrity athletes wanting HBCU as a come up? You are a NFL HOF top 100 player in history they don't need a come up. Sanders never won a bowl game?? Colorado says that is okay we still want you! David Moody? Go do some more research on football and less on staying emotionally attached to sports articles...
@james anderson Sorry buddy but HBCU colleges are more than just about the athletic department. Deion Sanders used Jackson State and then left after only 3 years without finishing his 4th and preaching to the choir. Ed Reed thought he could do the same with no coaching experience and fell on his face. Maybe HBCU Colleges are tired of celebrity athletes thinking they can get a job using HBCU as a come up without doing any real work and committing themselves long term. For all of Deion Sanders success at Jackson State they still didn't win any Bowl games during his 3 year tenure.
Listen to State of the Union: sprtspod.fox/Lalas
The Alumni that largely fund the sports/endowments are generally working Middle Class Americans. HBCU alum have the financial power to fund their own athletic endowments to help fund coaches salaries and team facilities... they just aren't doing it.

I am a HBCU alumni. It isn't just about people & alumni not donating money its about the money they're donating disappearing or being used inappropriately.
@Peter Lewis 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Gil Cruz as James Brown said ...I'M MAD! I'M MAD! 😂
@Peter Lewis take it easy
@Peter Lewis they were only going to do it for Ed Reed
You don’t need donors to do something simple as cleaning up. These people just don’t care and that’s what Ed was showing
True buy berating the college isn't the way to go. Ed has personal issues. He needs help
They never care when you are a losing team. That's just the sport.
Now the media tryna cover it up n make Ed look unreasonable
Did u HELP.. THESE people 🙄 😒
Ed is completely right. If you're going to bring him in to turn the school around, how are you going to do that showing kids a dirty campus with mold in the dorms? Having the campus clean is literally the first thing in having a viable college

@Antonio Smith yeah...he seems to think he can snap his fingers and everyone is gonna jump right up and do what he tells them too. My guy lmao...ur the football coach
Normal college dorms at every university be like
@Antonio Smith so how can I turn the football program around if the school is not changing as well? I can’t say hey this is where you’re going to be sleeping and there’s mold d the school is dirty.
The school was still recovering from 2 HURRICANES! It wasn't even the whole campus. The mold came from the storm not from lack of maintenance.
@Executnr found the snowflake. I can tell you never played sports
@Dixon Tee Every coach prior to that knew what they signed up for and didn't have a big name like Ed reed. Why is only HBCU they have to embarrass publicly. I've watch Worst school (Last Chance U) and their coaches ain't publicly embarrass their employer like that. @Wilson Destinkeeping it “ In-house” has never worked. Every coach prior to him has kept it “ in house” and look where that got them. Fired after the administration continued to steal and not support the Football team.
Just think about how much a star coach could have helped fixed that. Now we will never know.
@Executnr Rocking a beard isn't an indication of being unhinged.
It took the players from Grambling St University to publicly humiliate the university into building a suitable facility for them to practice and play. Sometimes it takes public outcry to get these administrators to get up off of their behinds to do right by the students
Gram also boycotted a game too
But that's students, not potential employees.
I remember that, and I remember them boycotting homecoming because of it. When the students speak out, the schools listen…and they doin it at BCU now. Hope they get the fixes that need to be made.
He wasn’t even hired yet though
Yes, the GSU situation was from 2013...it was about a month after Pres. Pogue had fired, Coach D. Williams :
See article in USA today below:
But among other things, school officials confirmed that Williams regularly tangled with the administration over private fundraising. The tipping point was apparently new flooring for the team's weight room.
Yes, Athletic Depts & Pres of Schools tangling with each
other is not new.
But this situation at B.C. is a bigger mess because you got a never was really hired Coach encouraging kids to protest.
Where, Doug Williams was telling his former players to play football...even after he had been let go.
This wasn't a social media battle & it only lasted for a few days at GSU.
Ed exposed what was problem for years. It's a shame no one had the courage to expose them aloud like Ed did!
@Kae Kae he wasn't hired to be the coach, he was sent to expose BCU
You get better & faster results when ya do it out in the open. Doing stuff in the dark is why we end up with the bare minimum in all kinds of areas. No American school should have these probs tbh. So yea. Put it on blast no matter where it is.
He wasn’t even hired yet. It’s dumb. Handle it internally once you’re hired.
Any coach that accepts this job, without making Bethune Cookman address the issues Ed exposed first, will not be taken seriously.
@Brad Florida Adventures WOW, that's Crazy.
Who cares what other ppl think. They there to coach football not be a savior
Folks been complaining about things with this school for years
It’s a shame how the HBCU”s are not properly maintained.
@Zero Tolerance The public HBCUs are (largely) supported by state gov't and, to a lesser extent, alumni, while corporate/private philanthropy and alumni fund private ones -- BCC, for example.
@VIZUAL ARCHITECT yep
@gregory carroll Coppin was one of 4 HBCUs here in Maryland that sued the state b/c they had been underfunded for decades!! They won a $577 million dollar judgment. Imagine how much better their weight room would have looked had they got the money they were due.
It's not all HBCUs.
That what I’m saying because one day hbcu do right is keep the outside clean bcu is a hbcu who gave up
Those kids were out there sharing helmets.
Basically they want Ed Reed to take on a project and be quiet about it. Salute to Ed for being vocal
Sharpe acting like ed saying he wants everything done overnight bruh no he clearly kno more then we do
I thought about Waterboy. Bobby had 2 use the kickers helmet, they were sharing cups. They said their gloves had mildew n them etc. No showers smh
@The BenC by looking for himself. This isn't some huge facility, the gear is in a shed and would be office is in a construction site.
@Nicholas Jordan how is he supposed to know about the moldy equipment? Even in middle school football teams have locker rooms and clean gear. It's assumed that this basic thing, gear not being moldy, is taken care of.
A change of mindset is needed by the staff of most of our HBCUs. We are too comfortable in mediocrity.
@Keenan Norris
Oh God He’s not saying Ed was wrong
Stop doing surface listening
@Alexis Browning mold been there after years
Still doesn’t change the fact that he “exposed” an organization before he was even officially hired.
It's still bad business on Ed reed side.
Both have controversial takes at times when it comes to sports but when it’s social issues undisputed is miles ahead of first take
@Alton James Molly is very attractive
I agree especially after 1st let Max Kellerman go.
Neither
AND NO MOLLY!
Call Brent Farve. He good with building new facilities with FUNDS
Comment of the week 😂😂
BCU is one of the most expensive universities. Still no word on the 25 million that went missing few years back
Let's not forget one of the most terrible facilities anywhere in the country trust me it's a sad sight to see
The administration stole it, how they all got bmw's n Benz's?
What Ed Reed did was EXPOSE issues of HBCU's
@FlyGuyGuru nope he needed ppl attention and the best way to get it now days is to do what he did even deion prime time said Ed was right so .....enough said or nuff sed 😂😂😂😂
@Johnny Bravo no he agreed with him but said he could've done it in a different manner instead of just going to the internet like a young kid...
@Zero Tolerance so it’s racist right? And no they aren’t, get your facts straight
He did but Uncle Tom Shannon sharp wasn't having it
@I.P. Freely i should not have included all... BUT they all are white ran (higher than the deans) universities 😵💫🤯
As a FAMU alum, it’s sad to see HBCU be viewed in this light. FAMU was an excellent university for me and I recommend anybody to bring their children there.
FAMUis the ONLY HBCU to move it’s football program to the FBS level…. That’s says volumes about them.
This what the best take I’ve heard
@Brian Williams ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Say it again 💪🏾💯
Sad news. Much respect to Reed and Prime. I would trust my young man to them both. Stay strong and true and always stand for truth, and you'll never go wrong
I just gained a lot of respect for Ed Reed! Thank you for educating the world.
This just shows EVEN MORE how special Prime is.
Sterlington Parker Ed way may ruffle feathers but both shined a light on sketchy administration.
@Black MoneyPrime also made way more off the field and on the field than Ed Reed did fam
Sterlington Parker you mean Ed was working at school: cleaning, chasing rodents, trying to make it a real facility prior to sigining a contract because he was that commited to doing and being better
@Black Money Which means he has money already lol
Shannon comes from humble beginnings and it’s great to hear those stories.
Admins already know its unacceptable. Now they have to address it because it went public. Admins aren't blind but they'll take their pay
@Significant Nobody Salaries and fringe benefits usually cover at minimum about 80 percent of program cost. They dont have money . Most HBCUs barely break even . Look at the Financial reports for BC
To true good comment
Don't take 40 million to get equipment
@DD all the repairs don't have to be done all at once. Bethune-cookman tuition is about 15k per student and they have almost 3800 students enrolled there. Thats 56 mill right there. Now I know they have salaries etc to pay...but let's not act like these universities don't have the money. They just don't bring in revenue as PWI
At least 40 million or more is needed to make repairs . Where does the institute get that type of money?
Hey Shannon, FYI, Prairie View A & M University (PVAMU) just had a brand new Football Stadium and new Track & Field Facility built in the last few years. This Campus, overall, appears to be a developing small city with new Student Housing Buildings, a new Electrical Engineering Building, etc......
Ed talked like a man who didn’t care about keeping his job 😂
@Isaiah Thomas 🤣🤣🤣🤣fr
@Executnr how when he coming out of his own pocket ?
@ABDMG Ed chasing checks
@mayankingrevisited2902 if there is trash its the students that are trashing the grounds. The alumni doesn't give back.
@BIGTIME OHIO STATE Stop making excuses about the hurricane
Coach Prime gave the best example to the work you have to put in to reconstruct the system in a HBCU
Yes, he did. It would've been nice if Reed had put 10% of the preparation that Deion did into his job.
But left because it was to much!!! He Prime
@The hentai King It’s not hard to hide money from an audit. Rich people so it everyday. The ticket sales at jsu are a perfect example.
@Nohometraing1_305 actually they not. There literally audits from 2020 for every hbcu you can see what they was doing with the money
This just shows how special coach Prime is because it’s hard to get college gameday to come to an HBCU game on a Saturday morning.
Who cares about College Gameday
@SKA Charlie like 15 yrs ago bro
Gameday had already been to FAMU before. Nice try fella.
You are correct but dems will think different 😂
Wow 😑
So true, misguided priorities, I wouldn’t dare go to HBCU, only to get treated wrong by our community 🤦🏽♀️
“Go to admin first”
How do You know he didn’t??
The admins are the ones embezzling the funds
How do you know he did???
@void B free absolutely. If you put in time like Deion sanders you can criticize not the first week on the job before signing the contract
QUIT FOOLING YOURSELF YOU KNOW THAT DID NOT HAPPEN, ED’S APPROACH IS FRIGHTENING MORE THAN PASSIONATE TO ME.
Ed wasn't wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 they needed blasting why tf would you let this continue to go on do you like living with mold or wtf 😂😂
I never been to a HBCU in my life but I’m not surprise man like damn what world ed was in …everybody already slightly know this doing it like this ain’t gonna solve nothing but views not saying be quiet but atleast try to stay for Yu can change it Yu know these people not having that strong approach
Sounds like deflection to me.
Tell me why Deion left again?
After watching this again I don’t understand why ED was upset at Shannon. UNC Didn’t say anything wrong.
Shannon Sharpe is a stand up guy 🤴🏾👍🏾
@Apostle Arthur Young U grew up wit Unc??
Yeah, it always had been since we grew up as kids
People don't like being put on blast for their bs
My grand daughter granddaughter graduated from that college last year
Especially Shannon he had to apologize for his with Memphis 🤣😂😂🤣 you're not in Georgia .... Wtf but yo BLM 👍🤣🤣🤣
@Ace Smart da tall Kevin Hart Their is a right way and a wrong way to do something and UNC is right.
Facts and Unc pissing me off
“He’s got some charismatic preacher in him. He can move people to open their wallets.” 😂
@Ahmed Dhere So that sounds like Deion, got it!!! Thanks.
@Dreeco Yes, some particular people are gullible and foolish!
@wallacesteelersws sound exactly like a preacher 🤣 they move wallets very well
@wallacesteelersws Skip is talking about Deion.
Reed is emotional. Eddie George is a real one
Jackson state was already a step ahead of Bethune-Cookman current conditions before Prime got to JSU, don't know if he could prepared him for what was going on in Florida.
“I ain’t never seen that much gum” 😂😂😂 never thought I’d hear that on a sports show. I love Shannon 😂😂😂
Imagine stuffing your pockets with 50 packs of gum 😄
Uncle Shannon a trip
@Icecube88he’s talking about the gum that’s left around after it’s chewed 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@Icecube88 he was talking about actual gum
@Icecube88 that’s what I like to know 😅
was he talking about actual gum or something else
“How many different uniforms do you think Jackson State have? Every week they come out with a new uniform, they looked like Oregon of the South”
@Butch Definitly helps that Deion was incredibly marketable and has at least triple Ed's net worth. Not to mention very business savy.
Coach Prime came out of HIS pocket and leveraged his NFL teammates and corporate partnerships
@Zach Gonzales lmao 😆
Bol Bol said he only went to that school because they get so many PE Nikes/Jordan’s and he’s a huge sneaker head.
It’s not about the donors, it’s about the schools not giving a damn.
Md shores
and not using the money that donors are giving the money for.
We gotta protect Ed Reed at all cost!
It’s been a long time coming.
ed doesn't even protect ed. get over it, cupcake. ed messed up, and his approach was all wrong.
Ed is right, I live here in Daytona beach. Administration has been doing this for years. Stealing and killing dreams for their pockets.
Jew life dirty life
Exactly
Coach Prime handled the situation TOTALLY DIFFERENT than Ed Reed. Simple as that!!
Great conversation. Not totally dogging the school but just giving facts about what Ed did that blew this all up. He should have kept it between him and the institution.
If he did that it would just keep on happening
STUDENTS are boycotting until He's RE-HIRED
Those students better go ahead and start transferring cause it’s not happening
They won't get it
@Nitrolus Kincaid You're spot on.
Thank you Unk for saying what you said. I went to BCU and its not perfect, but you have to handle situations with more professionalism.
@Grover Byard been hiding for year ain't no mo hiding im with Ed
@Grover Byard HE ALREADY DID THAT! AMD THE STUDENTS ALREADY DID THAT. YOU AND SHANNON NEED TO DO BETTER RESEARCH
@ISMAEL CORNEILLE I completely agree and it's not pride because I believe this needed to happen. All I'm saying is that it could have been at least discussed first to the admin before going on IG live. Even Ed admitted that in his interview with Roland Martin. That is all I'm saying.
Stop letting that alumni pride block our blessings bethune needed this public maybe it get help
@David Moody the hurricane had nothing to do with the place being trash for years trust me I know and it's a sad situation but let's not blame the hurricane that just came through here in Florida on the fact that BECU has been trash for years
@Kells94 The School has moved on from Ed Reed. I think you should move on also.
The hurricanes have nothing to do with it there’s a community college and embry riddle right down the road who haven’t had buildings infested with mold, if you’ve ever lived in Daytona you would know it’s not the hurricanes 😂
@David Moodyit was 4 months ago. They could’ve cleaned it up to be presentable by now
Tell you an HBCU story: Attended majority white private high school for academic and athletic purposes.
Lol
Lol what was the point of posting this story to this video?
I hope this can be resolved somehow and Ed Reed can comeback and help manage the changes and lead the young men at this school. I’m praying for the most important part of this story the young men of the football team.
Broken relationship and can't be mended
Campus has had these issues going back to 2010. This ain’t nothing new but hbcu people will tell people to not be loud and handle it behind closed doors which doesn’t work because this has been a issue before ed reed. Now people paying attention. And Shannon needs to understand this goes beyond football. Everything there is messed up.
Ed’s not a yes man and that’s what there problem was. I glad he called them out
@Pink Freud .. big facts
Shannon is.
Shannon trying to teach Ed how to soft shoe
Preach Shannon!!! I went to Virginia Union University and played ball there as well. It is a hard-knock life!!! We maybe black, but we're better than this!!!
@Pink Freud .. very well said, was just giving u a hard time, God bless
@Clutch Breaker Actually Graduated N.Y.I.T
Unfortunately the Military moved me around a lot , VCU was just my longest attendance and favorite out of the Five Universities I attended.
A schools reputation is meaningless
If the reputation you establish for yourself is trash also.
@Clutch Breaker Yeah, Putting down one institution to celebrate another ain't my thing Fam. VCU & VUU share Sigma Brothers
As long as Brothers are getting higher education it's sall love.
I leave the competitive rhetoric to those
Who participate in such.
Now if we're talking Basketball Teams I'll talk smack with the Best of them Go Rams!
@Pink Freud .. yea u fasho a vcu grad
Anyone here compared VUU to BCU
Or any other HBCU
Please chime in. Not sure why I was selected to defend this comment.
He's right it takes time, effort, determination and dedication amongst other things people working together 💪
It seems like everyone wants to be the savior but wants everything in perfect conditions when they arrive. I'm pretty sure there are low-level PWI facing the same issues. Bit pretty sure no one will complain. They say it's all about the kids until someone pays them more and then lash out
Exactly. They hiring him to be the football coach not a martyr.
@Brian Williams facts. My grandmother use to tell me you don't have to be rich to pick up a broom.
At least pick up the damn garbage 🗑️. Facilities should be cleaned and maintained
Ed Reed just posted a video still wanting the job.
You talking about the same Shannon
Sharpe that could have address Dillion Brooks another brother man 2 man, off court at not at his Job in front of the Public, so social media can make spectacle of it?
We're not talking about the game, were talking about trash 🗑️, picking up trash. The administration needs to be fired. Lawrence drake liying n talking with his Eyes closed while on Roland Martin.
@Jason Sutherland I’m talking about Ed Reed himself, since he is a directly impacted and interested person.
Damn somebody has to say something in order for a change to be made
Ed Reed👍🏽
You can’t go on social media to bad mouth your employer and expect to keep your job. Ed had valid concerns but he went about it the wrong way. And the fact he attributed it to the “broken minds” of the people running is filled with condensation and out of touch with reality.
It had to be exposed
I came back to this after hearing Ed Reed call out Shannon Sharpe on IG Live. I’m still confused on what Unc said wrong here??? Lol
From what we’ve seen from Prime and Reed’s experience with HBCUs, I think leadership especially at the top is rotten at the core. It’s time to replace overhaul HBCU leadership because they seem to be either apathetic or corrupt about their own institutions,
How when most of campus are clean and lot of them have folks who work for big schools and companies as leaders
Since you so mad what you gone do about it? It ain't shannon fault!
@desi ma bingo
He didn't see it just like we didn't see it until they just spoke out. Those students and parents should have been protesting before Ed Reed even got there.
Ed came from the university of Miami now he ignited a flame 🔥
Ed too emotional to lead. You can’t cuss out your employer and go live with it. He did that too himself. He means well but he needs serious PR training
Ed Reed would be a Great Social worker not a Business man in football
Y’all need to have ED Reed on the show: put him on frist take ….
I understand where he's coming from but I think it's short sighted he's presence there would have raised the schools profile and perhaps helped them improve their financial situation
In Ed we trust😢
Can Ed even coach
Trust? He's a clown
I would love to hear Ed Reed open up about what really transpired.
@y doesitmatter usually when someone’s wrong about something they begin with the insults😭 god bless you brother !
@ABDMG you need to open up your spelling
@y doesitmatter very good show, go watch and open your mind brother ✊🏼
@Gifted Images LLC how you figure he lied ? Is there proof he lied ?
The Chairman basically feel the same way and they told the same thing to the Boss in charge but had a law suit on them so there is a lot that you guys are missing. And no not every HBCU including Prey view looks as bad as BCM. Prairie View is actually a clean up to date School.
Prairie View A&M University is actually in great condition. Please make sure you have facts before assuming all HBCUs are in poor condition.
Say it again 💪🏾💯
Yoooo Shannon stealing the gum was hilarious🤣🤣
That school used Ed for his name only they were never going to fix the conditions in the athletic department anyway. He was set up to fail
Jackson State University was already upgrading it's athletics facilities ... Deion helped donated half his salary but Jackson State was already in the process of moving forward ... prime did his homework, not sure if that's the case with Ed Reed 🤷🏼♂️
@BLOX STARZ TV he wasn't fired. They took the offer away.
ED Reed was going to coach for FREE no salary that why it is crazy they already fired him from a coaching job he was not going to get paid for
@desi ma Morgan state offer him job there they even spent millions on football field.that money just want to used them kids just like the school
That's what I am thinking. Did Ed even tour the entire campus ahead of time?
Ed Reed knew what he was walking into . Bethune has been in the news the last 7 years
Shannon Sharpe is the ABSOLUTE BEST!!! He is knowledgeable, PASSIONATE, AND a good listener. Love You Shannon Sharpe!!!!
Shannon... FYI - Prairie View University has a state of the art facility that rivals D1 schools.
"Our secrets keep us sick"
my high school back in 90s we had just 1 coach for the football team. we did all right, but my 3rd year of high school the football team had to be shut down because the school couldnt afford it anymore.
High school students don't pay room board and tuition
You do have to put the whole institution on blast. They’ve been neglecting their school for years….
This applies to accepting any job, research the company (employer) and visit and tour the department/office/facility/buildings.
WHOS HERE AFTER ED REED JUST HAD ANOTHER RANT CALLING OUT SHANNON SHARP🖐🏾😂?
A former student commented on 1 of Roland vids that attended n 07 said the school was like that back then
This was on Ed Reed no doubt.
Love Mr. Sharpe's take on this. I was worried he would be a little more biased toward Reed who is good friends with Coach Prime. Good job Mr. Sharpe.
I think he took it personal when he saw the conditions , he felt like those were his kids .. I would lose my cool too
Some times it takes calling folks out publicly for them to change, just like with Deion they would keep pushing stuff under the rug bc they thought they could get away with it.
Shannon is 1000% right! We have move differently when it comes to the HBCU’s!
I kind of appreciate how Skip has tone down and really checked his privilege lately that Darvin ham changed a lot of people, life, and outlook
*DAMAR HAMLIN… AT LEAST GET HIS NAME RIGHT. You damn casuals 😮 🤷🏽♂️ Darvin Ham is ex-Texas Tech backboard breaker/current Lakers coach. KNOW. Or don’t speak.
Deion did it year one like y’all just said. Now with Ed it takes time lol
Well Shannon as we find out now it has to do with some Tomfoolery in the upper Management so it really doesn’t have anything to do with ED going off, As a few chairmen of the board said that they felt that they would not be able to control ED Reed.
@David Moody that's exactly who the students and former students are blaming. So Ed is right. The administration is responsible.
Way to go Coach Ed Reed
Way to go? It was a tacky approach and he wasn't even hired yet to start demanding and or anything. He needs to control his emotions.
