@Ayura chan all yakshas have karma. it's not exactly clear what karma is, but it's sort of like this dark energy that corrupts the souls of yakshas for taking lives. xiao is a yaksha (the conquer of demons) and he once had several yaksha friends who got corrupted by their karma, and eventually killed each other, leaving xiao as the lone survivor, since he was able to fight it (which is what you see him doing in this video). At some point in time xiao was beginning to get corrupted by his karma again but he heard the sound of a flute being played in the distance and it calmed him. it stopped him from being corrupted. it's heavily implied that venti was the one playing that flute because in xiaos story teaser it shows venti sitting on a cliff, playing the flute while xiao is watching in the distance. in short, venti saved xiao from being corrupted by karma. hope i explained this well :)
Xiao and Balladeer have the most interesting story in the whole game so far. Their past is full of emotions and their story always gives me goosebumps.
2:21 Personally, *this* was the moment, accentuating of tune, of that painful and beautiful melody, that struck me the most in this trailer. Yes, 2:06 is undoubtedly cinematic wise beautiful, but the 2:21, with the little girls smiling happy face, holding up a mask of one of his fallen brother yakshas - it just *hurt*. How the tune twirled almost at the mention of what the “mask” is supposed to do - tingle from the past. How the theme *itself* represents Xiao - an old instrument playing, signifying his ancient nature; a beautiful melody, his canonically true beautiful nature; and just how sad and lonely it sounds - his reality. And later, at 2:38, a flute takes over the sad and lonesome melody - perchance Venti’s, a reference to how his music saved Xiao. Throughout this whole trailer the music changes - I absolutely adore Mihoyo’s use of music for storytelling, even in such short clip.
The animation quality never fails to impress me. It's nice to see story-based videos and not just teasers/trailers for upcoming characters. We need more of these!
The scene when Xiao was walking through liyue harbor and got startled by the little girl wearing a mask later saying that it is supposed to scare only monsters made me shiver, i think it was a small hint about XIao becoming what he swore to destroy, a monster. At least in my opinion.
You have to give the Genshin writers a lot of credit. From the moment we saw Venti with Stormterror, I thought I knew what his entire character was going to be. But instead he has surprised us at every turn, being very multidimensional and complex. All the archons have been like this, and most of the other characters too.
Xiao's story makes me so sad. I think why his experience feels the saddest to me, is that with most characters their story is still continuing and theres a chance for peace or acceptance for their experiences, but Xiao's karma will never go away or become less
@Elaine Yeh well immortality is also true for the adepti and the archons too. Atleast wanderer doesnt have to suffer. For xiao it is truly eternal suffering

a lot of people seem to think this is the first time xiao and venti met, other than venti saving him. but it's actually implied in both the Mondstadt Mansion description (in the teapot) and in this interaction here that they are familiar with each other and hang out more than we think. it says "...Madame Ping had arranged for [Tubby] to prepare this particular villa after hearing that a certain bard had visited another adeptus' abode recently...." we weren't 100% sure which adeptus it was referring to before, but considering xiao doesn't seem particularly surprised to see the anemo archon hanging out at his place, i think it's safe to assume it's talking about him lol. idk i love xiao and it's sad to see him suffer, so it kinda makes me happy to think that venti comes to visit him when his karma gets bad and plays music for him to make it better. :')

@mushroom Yea ur right i cant finish the game in 3 days, but what good game is that easy?Like 3 days is a rlly short period of time for any game. I did however finish it in 2 months on a second acc that i made some time after dendro came out, and by "i finished it" i mean i 36 stared the abyss. It took long to get to AR45(like 3 weeks) but after that all of it was easy. So yea, u cant finish genshin in 3 days but u sure can in 2 or 3 months for sure(or even less if u pay any money, in my case i was f2p).And about the colorist/racist stuff, idk, seems like something that ppl on twitter say for attention(idk i dont use twitter)...

Years and centuries pass by, the flows of time invariably erase people, cities and countries with it.. And there is Xiao, known to everyone as a mysterious magical spirit from fairy tales, who is fighting evil out there. And for him, nothing changes with the passage of time, and all this time he endures endless obsessions alone and fights for the most part not with monsters around, but with a monster inside himself, risking being swallowed up in his own darkness in an instant. We can't lose Xiao, we almost lost him once already. Will we ever be able to purify his karma forever and end all his suffering?.. I really hope
wow the scenes rlly blended together nicely, i appreciate all the effort that's put into every single character and their place in the story. especally seeing baizhu made me happy
I'm kind of concerned about Xiao. Of all the Genshin characters so far, he is always the closest to death. The fact that this is pretty much his day to day, he might not have a lot of those left in him.

I think Xiao's bad karma and suffering can hint to the mysteries of the hilichurl's curse. Xiao says "an instant of negligence, and it will turn me into the monsters I swore to purge" 0:50 so he will become a monster himself if the bad karma succeeds. Hilichurls are cursed to become monsters, and Xiao could possibly turn into a monster due to bad karma, so maybe the curse of the hilichurls/Khaenrian people is similar to bad karma. Hilichurls also wear masks so they can't see their faces in reflections, and Xiao's mask was covering his face as he looked into the water 1:19. Even the name of the trailer, "endless suffering" relates to the endless suffering that the hilichurls are bound to. Besides that, I'm excited for the update!
Venti.. just being Venti 🤣 smelling the rice wine hahaha. But, then, that clever line, referring to both Xiao and himself, taking the mask off. Xiao being able to take a day/night off to finally rest and Venti not needing to pretend to be a bard instead of an archon.

@Yuan Jiangyue Tbf I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Genshin's rigorous advertising. Genshin ads are EVERYWHERE. It also helps that Genshin is a very diverse game. You have combat, open world, gacha, and co-op (plus event mini games). There's also good characters + lore, and people love the OSTs.

@luna💜95💜genshin I've had my Xiao since I started playing, my account used to belong to my friend who just got started before his work commitments made it so he couldn't play, he didn't want to waste the account so gave it to me. Since then I got my Xiao his weapon off standard banner and got him C1. He carried me majority of the game. 🤣 he's on the bench taking a break since he's now overpowered for the overworld enemies and I want to give other chapters a time to shine instead of heavily relying on Xiao. I still use him in Abyss when I do it as well as some domains.
i hope so, i sure hope they wont make xiao aS tHe CoRE oF LaNteRn RIte AgAin, like its not like liyue has any other "key important" character ri~ght? since its "endless" might as well make it about him again even for the next consecutive years of CNY.
I appreciate that Hoyoverse didn't go straight from Chasm to Xiao is all happy and go lucky. He's been a self sacrificing figure for centuries on end, and only recently felt that it was okay for him to be happy and live for himself. He feels lost and unsure of his purpose now that he's not throwing his life towards protecting Liyue. Part of it is "a warrior finding purpose in a peaceful time", but part of it is also him dealing with the survivor's guilt as a Yaksha. This is going to be a heart-tugging Lunar New Year Festival!
plus, he hasn't properly had his time with venti yet sure, they met, but his dream of listening to him play again still remains... i'm led to believe; 1. hoyoverse has big plans for that 2. they're just gonna forget for 2 years again lmao also, i saw a theory online that this trailer was set in 2.4, before the chasm quest, and when he smiles down from the inn during the cutscene he was smiling at venti 💚

@MHBarney yeah i agree with that, many xiao mains are cringe teenagers who see xiao as their inner self's embodiment or something. They are embarrasing for other xiao mains like me too. Every popular thing has a partly wannabe cringe fanbase like casual naruto, dbz fans. They are annoying af. Still it doesn't diminishes the greatnes of those things. I understand that raiden part too as i liked her design initially when everybody was trashing on her. Then the booba sword trailer came and people went bonkers even content creators. Her gameplay was also fun for me for a while until it wasn't. I'm constantly in endless suffering trying to get alllllll the levels and going through all the storylines just to get to that point in the game where I'm able to finally gain all the primogems for life.
I love how Xiao always talks about being alone, but when you look closer, he has not one but two archons looking after him. Zhongli sees him as a son and it seems that Venti will always have his back as well.

@Angelic252 1) I turned to watch the quest again and Scaramouche said that he doesn't plan to leave Sumeru for now, so I'll give you one point. But, you have a problem and that is that Scaramouche does everything under the idea of revenge, he doesn't leave Sumeru because he doesn't have what it takes yet to face Dottore and that's what they said. And Nahida does nothing more than seem like a teacher more than anything and I emphasize this because in the memes they deal with a mother-son relationship. 2) Scara is 500 years old and the cataclysm occurred at that time, it is illogical to say that it was after the cataclysm. If you add to that the puppets according to Ei's 2d mission lack fatigue plus she planned to enclose her soul in a sword while staying in the eutamia planl to avoid archon corrosion and give the puppet her power (so level that Ei said that her puppet has the same or more power than her and can never get tired) makes sense why she wanted a puppet. A power at the level of an archon, she never tires and it was also explained that by leaving her physical form and encasing herself in the sword, she nullified the effects of archon corrosion to maintain her level of power, all in order to be able to rule by the eternity. All this makes it more illogical to think that the puppets were made after the cataclysm when they were very necessary. And if it is true that they will have been done after Makoto's death, although I never said otherwise. 3) The vision capture decree was made for 2 reasons. Since according to the lore, snatching a vision usually leads to enormous depression on the part of the users. The vision-capturing decree was a form of protection, but the Fatui turned what would have been a mild revolt into outright war. Since the time of the ancestors of Kazuha Dottore planned the civil war between Watatsumi and Inazuma, since he planned a national imbalance. Later in Scaramouche's mission you see visions where Signora lends Scaramouche a fake vision company that Signora owned. Scaramouche as herald had to direct the company that was in charge of giving false visions to Watatsumi's soldiers to lengthen the war since they were losing and destabilize the economy. Signora did this since from her own words she said that she doesn't like to get her hands dirty, she prefers to take care of the diplomatic part. So much blame is done to the Shogun but you forget how little Scaramouche cared about indirectly getting his hands dirty with so much blood and almost destroying a nation through its imbalance. To this add that the Kujou clan was extremely corrupt and lied to the electro archon about the vision of the people about the decree so that this would continue. They even told the Shogun that the war was being won easily and casualties were few on both sides, Watatsumi's soldiers used to surrender when outmatched and were taken prisoner with very few casualties. All that lie fell apart and as soon as Ei found out about it, she didn't take long to act. 4) Yes, I know that I assume many things but I do it through a logical basis and that is that Ei said that he did not want to exercise control over his life and it would be contradictory to lock him up forever. I guess it's a writing error since it was only released because of a bug. Still, wrongly and everything still doesn't deny the fact that Ei didn't want to exert control over his life so it's the most logical idea to think that Scaramouche's release is something Ei thought of beforehand.

I did however finish it in 2 months on a second acc that i made some time after dendro came out, and by "i finished it" i mean i 36 stared the abyss. It took long to get to AR45(like 3 weeks) but after that all of it was easy. So yea, u cant finish genshin in 3 days but u sure can in 2 or 3 months for sure(or even less if u pay any money, in my case i was f2p).And about the colorist/racist stuff, idk, seems like something that ppl on twitter say for attention(idk i dont use twitter)...

Venti's hint about taking the mask off was very clever and well done. Its clear he's also referencing himself, and how Xiao knows exactly who he is. He's relishing in being able to present as himself rather than just some anemo bard. Looking forward to seeing more of him in this light.

I think Xiao's bad karma and suffering can hint to the mysteries of the hilichurl's curse.
Xiao says "an instant of negligence, and it will turn me into the monsters I swore to purge" 0:50 so he will become a monster himself if the bad karma succeeds. Hilichurls are cursed to become monsters, and Xiao could possibly turn into a monster due to bad karma, so maybe the curse of the hilichurls/Khaenrian people is similar to bad karma.
Hilichurls also wear masks so they can't see their faces in reflections, and Xiao's mask was covering his face as he looked into the water 1:19.
Even the name of the trailer, "endless suffering" relates to the endless suffering that the hilichurls are bound to.
Besides that, I'm excited for the update!

@Yuan Jiangyue Tbf I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Genshin's rigorous advertising. Genshin ads are EVERYWHERE. It also helps that Genshin is a very diverse game. You have combat, open world, gacha, and co-op (plus event mini games). There's also good characters + lore, and people love the OSTs.

@luna💜95💜genshin I've had my Xiao since I started playing, my account used to belong to my friend who just got started before his work commitments made it so he couldn't play, he didn't want to waste the account so gave it to me. Since then I got my Xiao his weapon off standard banner and got him C1. He carried me majority of the game. 🤣 he's on the bench taking a break since he's now overpowered for the overworld enemies and I want to give other chapters a time to shine instead of heavily relying on Xiao. I still use him in Abyss when I do it as well as some domains.

I appreciate that Hoyoverse didn't go straight from Chasm to Xiao is all happy and go lucky. He's been a self sacrificing figure for centuries on end, and only recently felt that it was okay for him to be happy and live for himself. He feels lost and unsure of his purpose now that he's not throwing his life towards protecting Liyue.
Part of it is "a warrior finding purpose in a peaceful time", but part of it is also him dealing with the survivor's guilt as a Yaksha. This is going to be a heart-tugging Lunar New Year Festival!

I love how Xiao always talks about being alone, but when you look closer, he has not one but two archons looking after him. Zhongli sees him as a son and it seems that Venti will always have his back as well.

But, you have a problem and that is that Scaramouche does everything under the idea of revenge, he doesn't leave Sumeru because he doesn't have what it takes yet to face Dottore and that's what they said.
And Nahida does nothing more than seem like a teacher more than anything and I emphasize this because in the memes they deal with a mother-son relationship.
2) Scara is 500 years old and the cataclysm occurred at that time, it is illogical to say that it was after the cataclysm.
If you add to that the puppets according to Ei's 2d mission lack fatigue plus she planned to enclose her soul in a sword while staying in the eutamia planl to avoid archon corrosion and give the puppet her power (so level that Ei said that her puppet has the same or more power than her and can never get tired) makes sense why she wanted a puppet.

Signora did this since from her own words she said that she doesn't like to get her hands dirty, she prefers to take care of the diplomatic part.
So much blame is done to the Shogun but you forget how little Scaramouche cared about indirectly getting his hands dirty with so much blood and almost destroying a nation through its imbalance.
To this add that the Kujou clan was extremely corrupt and lied to the electro archon about the vision of the people about the decree so that this would continue.
They even told the Shogun that the war was being won easily and casualties were few on both sides, Watatsumi's soldiers used to surrender when outmatched and were taken prisoner with very few casualties.
All that lie fell apart and as soon as Ei found out about it, she didn't take long to act.
4) Yes, I know that I assume many things but I do it through a logical basis and that is that Ei said that he did not want to exercise control over his life and it would be contradictory to lock him up forever.
I guess it's a writing error since it was only released because of a bug.
Still, wrongly and everything still doesn't deny the fact that Ei didn't want to exert control over his life so it's the most logical idea to think that Scaramouche's release is something Ei thought of beforehand.
