Love your videos! You guys make it look like anything is possible working as a team. It's fun going through your thought process as you design and remedy issues that arise. You're becoming my favorite off-grid channel!
You and Jules are doing a great job building your homestead and should be very proud of your achievements as you truly are building it yourselves unlike other channels who claim to be, while all the work is done by others. All the hard work and problem solving and mistakes and solutions along the way just make your journey more entertaining for us and more rewarding for you guys when you achieve your goals. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you and your family from here in Scotland.
I’m impressed with your problem solving and determination. Couldn’t stop watching. Had me glued 😂 until the end of the video. Good teamwork guys. 👏🏾🇬🇧🇯🇲
You guys are doing a great job, as a new sub I applaud you for using plumb and level properly. We have remodeled 4 of our own homes and I continue to be disappointed by KZcliprs not knowing the difference in those terms. Thanks for your professionalism in your vid’s.
Looking good. You've given me lots of ideas for when we do our house. Hopefully we get all the little trees out of the road that we had done several years ago so we can actually start building now that I am retired and not traveling all the time.
Good to all! I'm enjoying seeing your house, it's looking fantastic! Make more videos like this! Because one video a week is to be desired! I like watching your videos! Thanks
The porch is going to be a fun addition for this coming winter, but I am getting worried about y'all getting the rest of the addition dried in before the snow flies. I have my fingers crossed y'all be able to get it done before it's that stinkin' cold out.
Hopefully it will be able to handle the weight of snow of the build up between the pitches of roof. You might have to do porch cleaning every winter. Depends on the snow that drops every year.
Like you said it’ll be cold winter ,but you will get a warmest house this year with the patio cover a big family room , omg for me this is a mansion , great channel
Hi Martin an jules I found your channel about 2 months ago and have watched all your videos. I totally enjoy the both of you as a couple you are so natural and well matched. À lovely family I live in scotland in scottish Highlands I have 25 acres of land in the grampian mountains. I have done like you are doing with hand building my home with garage and workshop . You have a lovely home and integrated garage and this porch episode was very enjoyable to watch .I like you are working feverish because winter is coming fast .you will know there are never enough hours in the day with winter chasing. I am splitting timber to dry for next winter so jobs never end .Goodluck with your home and will be wating for your next adventure with your home. Mr muscles is handy when you need 3 pair of hands at once love the kittens.
I've been watching your vlog for several weeks now, very well put together and love the family life you have created. One thing you should expand on is the HOME-SCHOOLING media that is available now compared to years ago. One of the good things about the Covid was the realization of home-schooling advantages.
I really love everything that y'all are doing all on your own and not having to pay to have it done by anyone else because thus way you know that it is being done the way you want it done and you know that it is not going anywhere for at let 50 year's plus and your kids will have a nice home for year's to come .......
Amazing, congratulations! For your long timberlock screws, I'd think the top would be more important since the snow load will be trying to pull the top of the trusses away from the wall.
Great job you are lucky to have a wife that is willing to work side by side with you to beat the weather. We live 30 mins north of you and last year my wife and i failed to beat the snow while doing our roof but we managed to get underlayment on and we finished this past spring. Being on a roof with 15mph winds and 20 degree weather made me appreciate my wife more. BTW what weather app do you use, i can't seem to find an accurate one with all the micro-climates we have in the mountains?
Looking good, hope you beat the snow. One suggestion is to flash the upper roof fascia to the top of the porch roof. You don't want any gap there as it will collect blowing show, leaves and allow critters to get in make a nice home in the cavity between the upper roof and porch roof. You will want to add some venting at the ends of that cavity or in the ceiling below the cavity to get air circulation in through the upper roof bird blocking. Don't know how your are going to nail down the porch decking behind the upper roof fascia, glue ???
In your cold storage area You will either install a water heater pump or filter system Which would be a good place as it will not freeze during extreme winter periods Keep up the great builds on your home. Glen from Guam usa
🇬🇧 I think those brackets and plates really will compliment your build nice job using your head and its better to be a little longer than shorter on the posts at least you can trim them.
Looking really good. Questions, and I may have missed this on a previous video. How long until your windows arrive? While you were waiting for the trusses and other supplies why didn't you finish with the building wrap?
You should have used a water level, a clear hose almost full of water with a cork in each end. You can make it as long as you like, and or transfer you’re elevation by making a mark allowing you to move you’re mark wherever needed. I’m a retired ironworker, before lasers that is how we did it. The contractor hired an engineering outfit to put in a mark on each floor. All this for setting windows. When they came out with lasers I thought we already have that problem put to bed. Every finish ironworker carried a rolled up clear hose filled with water and capped with a cork. Every floor on a story job, all of the windows. I would take a dispatch on the 5th floor of a 66 story and wonder if I would top it out. As an example of how much we used it.
Great video !, new paint can pourers, very cool. just wondering why ya not using some aluminium foil on the roller paint tray, makes for easy cleaning the tray after use :)
Happy day ... a beautiful family and a beautiful continuous work to create a warm home ... a good, helpful and always smiling wife ... I wish you to live happily and hostilely and complete your beautiful home
Take some painters tape and place two overlapping pieces in a vee on one edge of your paint can. The vee is your pour point. Remove to put the lid back without any paint in groove and no spill pour.
Porch looks amazing! Great teamwork. That is really using your head adjusting the post height! The space under root cellar stairs will be triangular? Big oak barrel for storing home made bourbon? Thanks for sharing
Suggestion put perforated plastic drywall soffit vent up in the ceiling close to the house and soffit vents on end to keep from mold and convection happening. It’s a 2” vent from Home Depot that you install in the ceiling with your bird block vents for air flow close to the house out to the eave
How are you planning to flash the porch roof into the house? although gap is tight you should be aware of wind blown rain or snow buildup causing water pushing back toward house.
root cellar, under the stairs. gun safe or shelves for canning. (temporary burying the pipe for the water, surprised you didn't bury a heat tape with it.)
at first i thought this family is just too simple and taking too much time. But i took my time to keep on watching and skipping some. Later on I found out they are going in every detail and all trades of building off grid house solar etc. They are not just simple and humble but they are knowledgeable and expert. some other people may know more than them but no use of their knowledge if they cant share to needy ones. nice work.
You guys are doing great. I guess my question would be if there is a small heat source on main structure of roof would there be a concern when snow slides to porch roof would there be a build up at top edge of porch as there is no heat source. I think your design is good and the weather will tell what happens. Anyway great job!!!!!!
I'm almost wondering of you should try to completely enclose that space under the roof overhang above the new porch roof. I don't think you can access to paint the underside of the sheathing and boxing in the whole area would keep bugs and animals out of that space. The beams really look great
Your're doing a great job as usual...BUT if you're soooo worried about the cold weather (rightly so) when will you close in the house with windows etc????
Marty, there is a few issues. first use carriage bolts and nuts. make sure that there is no movement. the next is sheeting. use bmx so tht you can get a board look.
Love your videos! You guys make it look like anything is possible working as a team. It's fun going through your thought process as you design and remedy issues that arise.
You're becoming my favorite off-grid channel!
It is so exciting to see the progress you are making! Good work Martin & Julie!
Your construction methods is like it should be. My grad father would give you a gold badge and raise keep it up

The porch is looking great!!
Love the rustic hardware!
Looking good. Have watched you from day 1 . It’s truly amazing what you have accomplished as a family.
I’m impressed with your problem solving and determination. Couldn’t stop watching. Had me glued 😂 until the end of the video. Good teamwork guys. 👏🏾🇬🇧🇯🇲
I built a similar porch, years ago and I put 30 30 screen on before I put the floor boards down. No bugs mosquitos. It's definitely worth it
The porch is going to look great. You 2 are a good team.
You guys are doing a great job, as a new sub I applaud you for using plumb and level properly. We have remodeled 4 of our own homes and I continue to be disappointed by KZcliprs not knowing the difference in those terms. Thanks for your professionalism in your vid’s.
Great job family, it’s going to be beautiful porch and you’re going to have great memories made under that porch with grandchildren!
The porch is looking amazing!!! That’s going to be incredible!!!
Looking good. You've given me lots of ideas for when we do our house. Hopefully we get all the little trees out of the road that we had done several years ago so we can actually start building now that I am retired and not traveling all the time.
You guys doing super great work I love your videos and can't wait for next one
That’s going to be incredible .....absolutely fabulous
You need a bracket on both sides, or your beam can roll off under load. Stay safe
Good to all! I'm enjoying seeing your house, it's looking fantastic! Make more videos like this! Because one video a week is to be desired! I like watching your videos! Thanks

Great job on the porch!!!!! Great work Martin and Julie. Your house is looking fantastic!!!!! Thanks for sharing.God bless you.☺️☺️☺️❤️❤️
Great job guys. That is going to be a wonderful porch. Thanks for sharing.

Jewel knows her stuff. Martin you are truly blessed to have her in your life. Smile and enjoy your journey together.
That porch is gonna be epic! Love it! ✌🏼❤️🙏🏼
Jules is the resident expert it’s a great title. Self explanatory doing the best you can while being careful is the best training..
I really love everything that y'all are doing all on your own and not having to pay to have it done by anyone else because thus way you know that it is being done the way you want it done and you know that it is not going anywhere for at let 50 year's plus and your kids will have a nice home for year's to come .......
A lot of progress on the porch. Gonna look awesome.
As always... absolutely fabulous 🥳🥳🥳
Excelente y muy hermoso trabajo del porch..hermosa familia 👪 saludos y mil bendiciones para uds 👏💪👌🏻👊
You may consider doing a radiant heating in the roof surface of the porch so the snow melts off the lower surface!
GREAT JOB YOU TWO
Awesome set up for the porch, should work out just fine, and what's the loss of an inch or two in the ceiling...lol Love what you're doing ❤️
Great job filming and editing.
Great video. Appreciate the full progress content, not chopped to multiple clips some creators post.🙏
Marty I love when you and Jules post longer videos! Much love from Louisiana.
Amazing, congratulations! For your long timberlock screws, I'd think the top would be more important since the snow load will be trying to pull the top of the trusses away from the wall.
I love a large deck. So cool. BTW, great job at your friends place. Smiling with you.
Wow! That porch is going to be quite spirnickity when finished. So appreciate the share!!!
The cool little glue thing is actually called a finger joint. A super strong joint!!
Great job you are lucky to have a wife that is willing to work side by side with you to beat the weather. We live 30 mins north of you and last year my wife and i failed to beat the snow while doing our roof but we managed to get underlayment on and we finished this past spring. Wow! Y'all are getting a ton of work done. I enjoyed the video.
Thanks 👍
Looking great guys! Can't wait to see the porch finished. does your water tank freeze completely?
I love the progress. Stay warm and dry. Take care.
Thanks, will do!
Use metal screening on top of the joints before installing the deck boards and that will stop the misquotes from coming up from underneath your deck
U might want to consider air movement within the trusses to keep them dry and mold free
So good to see y'all again great video
NOW THAT'S A PORCH!!... 😎 Hopefully you'all will get you Windows put in soon.
Great Progress! 😁Take Care you'all!...👌😁
Yeah I wish I had done this way with my barn piers. Looks good guys
Congrats Guy's on another adventure of getting the Trusses done. looks great. Solar kittens supervisors on the job. lv the videos..
It’s looking amazing!
Nice going Marty. The porch looks great. Kudos to you and your family.
I'm glad you're hooking up the well to the house. Before you put in the stairs lower your new water tank down. It will easier.
Seems like your wife does a lot of work and fixes your mistakes too.

like your videos. Wouldn't it be easier to finish those soffits before the trusses go up?
I’ve been with you two since your tent days. My comment today “RESPECT”.
🇬🇧 I think those brackets and plates really will compliment your build nice job using your head and its better to be a little longer than shorter on the posts at least you can trim them.
For mosquito control maybe french drains in the gravel and porch lights with built in zappers? Nice work so far!
Looking really good.
Questions, and I may have missed this on a previous video.
How long until your windows arrive?

Wow that's going to be really nice great job 👍🤗❤
The space under your roof is a good place for Bees to build their homes also bird nests

I like the progress!
You can sand off the stamps of the wood before you stan them or sand and re stan
How are you planning to flash the porch roof into the house? although gap is tight you should be aware of wind blown rain or snow buildup causing water pushing back toward house.
Try to get a galvanized window well for the root cellar. A lot easier. Put some gravel in the bottom for drainage & put dirt up to it. 🙂✌🇨🇦
Marty used his head for the post height correction. Figuratively and literally. It may have been sketchy but it worked!
Jewels, no paint on your clothes! I can never seem to do that. Great job.
root cellar, under the stairs. gun safe or shelves for canning. (temporary burying the pipe for the water, surprised you didn't bury a heat tape with it.)
God job Pak Martin...semoga menjadi rumah idaman....salam from Indonesia..

I think your design is good and the weather will tell what happens. Anyway great job!!!!!!
I also wonder, if the slope of the porch trusses, is great enough for the snow to slide off?
20:00 Remember the carpenter's motto : "Measure once, cut twice". At least, that's what I always do …
Very good setup 👌 👍 👏 😎 😀 🙌.
I'm almost wondering of you should try to completely enclose that space under the roof overhang above the new porch roof. I don't think you can access to paint the underside of the sheathing and boxing in the whole area would keep bugs and animals out of that space. The beams really look great
Nice content. May I suggest a camera pole when self-fillming?
To snap those steel bands on your lumber bundle, hook the band in-between the claws of your framing hammer then lift the handle to snap it.
Keep doing what you love
Your're doing a great job as usual...BUT if you're soooo worried about the cold weather (rightly so) when will you close in the house with windows etc????
Marty, there is a few issues. first use carriage bolts and nuts. make sure that there is no movement. the next is sheeting. use bmx so tht you can get a board look.
Looks amazing! How do you not have snow yet? Southern Alberta got up to 3 feet closer to the Rockies.
Don't forget, Better Safe than Sorry! So yes put the blocking in between the Trusses!
You can just sand the board and that’ll take off the stamp marks and crayon marks
It’s the stitch you dropped on your Amish quilt to remind you that no one is perfect, but God. 💕
Can't wait to see siding on the house as it will give the home I will finished look. What colour are you going with.
