When I saw the 50 years of Hip Hop performance, I’m damn near fell to the floor!!! Seeing all the performances, was the highlight of the show. I grew up listening to all of them.

Salute to the old and the new school artist that’s representing the culture. The 50 year Grammy honor was just teaspoon serving. We need a televised concert tribute starting from the birth of HIP-HOP showcasing every generation to now. That would be monumental. We continuously keep proving to the world that no other genre can touch HIP-HOP! And just think when HIP-HOP started radio and record companies didn’t want no parts of it. “LOOK AT THEM NOW”.

Problem is these new artist don't represent true Hip Hop culture or the 5 elements MCing, DJing, BBoying, Graffiti and Knowledge!!! Gangbanging isn't an element, doing drugs isn't an element, wearing dresses and chokers isn't an element!!! It's sad, they don't even show respect to the pioneers like Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick, Beastie Boys, Kool G Rap or Biz Markie!!! Not even showing love to he 90s MCs like Wu-Tang, Nas, Biggie, OutKast, The Roots, etc!!! It's a sad state of music r is ght now. There needs to be a musical revolution in the Country!!

      NMB Ай бұрын +1

@Jheri Curl Jankins It’s popular today not because of how good it is but because it’s what young people today listen to and they don’t exactly have good taste. Hip hop is the new pop. It’s what’s on the mainstream now. The kids who have good taste actually listen to other genres and music from the past.

    • Jheri Curl Jankins
Jheri Curl Jankins Ай бұрын +4

Because, in it's infancy, music fans and most of the industry alike never rooted harder for a genre to fail as they did for Hip-Hop (We can get into a lot of the reasons why but that's a discussion for another time). It was written off as just another fad that was gonna come and go just like Disco but here it is 50 years later and not only is it still thriving, it's the most popular genre of music in the country. 💯

    • NMB
      NMB Ай бұрын

Hip hop was great in the 80s-2000s, not so much now. Tribute was unnecessary. Rock music made it past 50 years (with actual musical instruments involved) so why wasn’t there a tribute for it?🤔

First rap sex symbol why? He made us feel like queens! Said he did not like stuck up but down to earth women called them round a way girl and married one married over 25 years.

This is simply a hip hop that simply doesn’t exist anymore. No performers or music like this in recent generations. Forget about styles that change and evolve…there are no more powerful voices or deep dark timbres like this…
Off course music is supposed to evolve but things like Bad Bunny can be considered more an involution.

@Sky Walker yes, it seems like this was mostly honouring the kings and queens of hiphop past, with some current acts involved too. I imagine, like LL cool J said, they will do something else like this with more current kings and queens, of modern hiphop in the future. They first had to give these respects of course
