@Lil Bird I grew up in Ft Washington MD. As an Asian guy playing in a predominantly Black neighborhood in the 90’s. Got called almost every racist Asian derogatory word. Trust me I had to have tough skin. I always got it from other players but some of these parents in the videos went too far.
How do you know their not? My nephew went to Purdue and worked very hard to get his education and be on the basketball team, now he coaches at Purdue and my other nephew is playing and is doing well academically so that seems like a big ole assumption
I played for a nationality ranked high school hockey team back in the day, and coach belisle wouldn't let parents go to practices, and if my teammates parents yelled or acted fools during games, my teammates were kicked off the team, no matter how skilled/good they were. Actually happened to 2 of my teammates
@Scott ? Same. When I was a kid playing around Boston, the majority of the people at the rinks watching the game, were the parents. They would legit be yelling obscenities at each other from the bleachers. Then "politics" came in to play as well. Hockey is mad in the northeast. Have a great day today, brother
Being a former collegiate athlete, I use to have high interest in coaching and being a referee. This is why I never did. Parents are the worst of the worst. Most of them never played a competitive sport, or no sport at all. Some have, didn't get far, and living their glory days through their kid which is a damn shame. And think they know everything what's best for their kid vs what coaches see and think.
EXACTLY! people who don’t have respect for things never been through it, I never wanted my parents screamin like that. It’s just obnoxious, his kid obviously ain’t doin to well so he’s gotta hype him up
@Capitol Hill's Full of Shills! most actually don't act like that. In the city they do but not in the county. It's weird how black folk in the county hate the black folks in the city and vice versa. Those that don't, normally end up hating after they actually try to give back to those in the city. In my city black men and women do try to invest in those poor communities and they get ran out. The only good thing about mine is you can say facts and they don't deny it.
I've seen parents/family members come on the court during a game to celebrate their child making a basket or crossing someone on the other team. Ridiculous.
I must have been a horrible supporter of my kids games, I have three kids and all three played all types of sports, I showed up at every game I could, but I just sat in my seat and cheered them on, even though I played college football and basketball, I never tried to ref or coach my kids games, there was usually someone already doing that so I just watched from the stands, I didn’t know I should have been belittling other kids, arguing with other parents, telling the coaches and referees how to do their jobs and getting kicked out of the gymnasium, so even though all three of my kids are grown now, I’d like to apologize to them for not acting like a total idiot at their games lol
@Top Kingz Of course. Tell me something I don't already know. Anybody can talk, including young children. It doesn't make you a better/bigger man to do it. My favorite athletes are the ones who don't feel the need to run their mouth. The ones who let their play do the talking and leave it on the field. These fathers talking shit to other parents are a disgrace. Apparently they never grew up!
I mean this from the depths of my soul…this is the some of the saddest shyt I’ve seen in a loonnngggg time. Adults heckling kids? Really?!?!?!?!? Kids?!?!?!?!? I’m as big a sport fan as there is and as much as I root for my kids I NEVER root AGAINST their opponents who are also kids, due to their innocence and undeveloped minds. WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think that’s heckling when that guy was going back and forth with the 6th grader. He gave him his props when he did something nice. And he really was trying to gas up his team.
I was a State Certified High School Basketball Official. In our off-season summer, I would officiate local tournaments and once an AAU Tournament. After my first experience officiating AAU basketball, I never came back. The parents are ridiculously obnoxious and pretend to know what they are talking about. It's never the kids, it's always the parents.
I was honored to spend 28 years officiating high school and college basketball. Some of my closest friends today are the coaches I met along that journey, there aren’t very many people that would put their livelihood in the hands of 16 to 18 year old young men and women. Sadly, I’ve seen firsthand that the majority of good coaches and sports officials leave due to parents.
Just over the past 5-6 yrs, I've seen parents end up going at it in the gym and then shots fired minutes later in the parking lot.....seen it happen twice in local AAU basketball games and in a little league football game here. Dudes get the feels hurt bad anymore rather than walk away. Used to Not be that way except for a little heckling.
With parents like this no wonder our youth ain't shit. But I did get a good laugh at whoever was writing the words saying, labron staring at you you automatically scared. Lmao that was funny AF
This is why my 11 year old son does not play AAU even though he's constantly recruited due to his height. The parents make the atmosphere toxic as hell. They make it less about the kids and more about them.
I understand your worry but AAU was the best decision I ever made. Not only does it improve your skill by 10x but also fun. Why not just give it a shot. Stuff like this is kinda rare. Only super big tournaments are like this. Think like one in Orlando Florida, Miami Florida, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, would have parents that act like that. But smaller ones within your city are not usually like that.
My son was a wrestler, he went to states and was awesome his senior year. He was friends will all his opponents. Everything on the mat was just business. I’ll never understand this mentality
This low-key got me feeling bad for my Dawgs, the refs. Even as an athlete, I don't get so mad at the ref for making a bad call, I just worry about how I'm going to make up for those lost yards. In the end, I will always tell them... "You my dawg for real, Mr Ref."
Need more videos of college coaches talking about how they watching parents now just as much as they watch kids while recruiting. Imagine killing your child’s offer shot because you can’t sit down and shut up.
These people should not be allowed to reproduce. As a former Little League umpire, it is despicable what parents say to you. I started seeing the public in a whole new light after that.
You're right in that there's no minimum requirement, but It's hard to set a minimum requirement when the pay is next to nothing...it's always tough to find umpires/refs in sports below college level..the pay usually isn't worth the abuse you take
Little league umps were always trash I got rung up 3 times in one game as a kid on 3 pitches in the dirt The problem is is little league ball has no requirements to be an ump At least in the little league I was in
I’ve coached many youth basketball games on my own and as an assistant coach and the craziness I’ve seen from parents even from my own team is a bit much sometimes. Referees have made many questionable calls in front of me when I was coaching and I ask a questions on why they thinks they should have made that call but I don’t belittle or talk down on them. The video at 9:05 I’ve seen situations like that in person myself and to me it’s stupid to compare kids most especially ones that are as young as the ones in that game because how a kid plays at a young age is not a determining factor of how good they will be 2-10 years later because I’ve seen kids develop some who develop quick as a rocket and some who develop steadily but nonetheless saying “Your son will never be as good as my son” bragging like that is ridiculous because we don’t know how players will develop overtime
The kid who started the whole fight and then gets shoved for instigating. The dad then shoving the wrong ref.. really shows what type of people they are how they raise their kids
I’ve seen these games we all get so emotional and our kids are throwing us a “ Really?” Mom/dad/ auntie lol it was a few times as auntie that I wanted to say something but I knew that my nephew would not want me to unless it was extreme. I made a comment once, he found out and said, I know you love me auntie but chill, I’m good 😂😂😂😂😂
I almost quit playing AAU basketball when I was young because of the drama half of these parents brought to the games. Some of those parents and coaches were fucking out there.
I volunteered to ref Sunday girls soccer for a local church and I quit after 2 weeks of parents harassing me. The third week I showed up in my regular clothes and the parents are asking me what's going on? I told them I made a huge mistake and I'll never volunteer for anything again. I was told I was a quitter, I laughed and said I have better ways to volunteer my time and I left.
I've had the kid playing AAU and it has been multiple times where the referee blatantly favors one team over another. Parents & referees should be called out on this!!!!!
There was a kid I grew up with on my little league team and his dad would get kicked out of games almost half the time, especially when I was pitching and didn't get a call even if it was clearly a ball.It was embarrassing to both his son and me....
I mean the dude sells 400 dollar shoes that aren't worth 2 cents in Chinese money Actually, he is 100% worthless. He's only somebody because of his boys
As a dad to a two and a half year old who is already very tall, muscular, and loves basketball, I am taking vigorous notes so I too can be an excellent basketball dad. Thanks for the tips!
If some of these parents put half as much work into their kids education and upbringing as they do during a youth basketball game! No wonder there’s a referee/official shortage, having to deal with these psychos
Some friendly banter is expected and tolerable, as it goes with the territory..but...when you allow one parent to behave poorly it sets precedence for the rest of them to do whatever.
That’s why I quit doing AAU ball along time ago it’s just ridiculous and they wonder why they have problems getting officials nowadays plus it would help if you had school monitors that can intervene and take care of these really parents and coaches
Teaching my 8 year old to play through it, I’m talking her ear off in the driveway of our home, so when she one day touches a court in a team atmosphere, nothing phases her. 🙏🏽
I coached ice hockey for 15 years. From when the boys on my team were 5/6 years old until 21/22 years old. Mini-Mites through Junior C. Quite honestly, many of the parents were this bad then, 1992-2005/2006/2007. Sometime in that time period. There were parents kicked out of ice arenas almost every game. It’s my personal belief that parent should not be allowed court side, ice side, field side, ever. They should be forced to watch from their cars or home via stream. They make kids feel so awful, so uncomfortable, that many want to quit the sport, solely because of their own mother and/or father. It’s just awful and they’re taking something that’s for kids and completely ruining it. If they’re so good, so smart, so talented then let them ref or officiate. Bet they wouldn’t. As it is now youth sports officials have been quitting in droves all over the country. Can you blame them?
Had a friend who drove Zamboni at a rink in a Twin Cities suburb and two Canadian teams traveled all the way to play each other because they weren't permitted to play each other in Canada because of the Parents bad behavior, which I think included some fighting. This was the late 1980s.
It’s weird to see adults heckling little kids
Pathetic... not weird
After listenin to my song John wall yo kids will go d1💯💯
@logan sneed your literally proving the comments point. You as an adult should NOT be tranna trash talk a kid that’s not your so immature

The saddest part is when the kids of the hecklers begin to struggle in their own careers.. You’d hate to see what the parents become then.

Just tremendous role models these parents.

Smart move continue to stay the course and don't let some coach sell you bull #@!% oh your child can be a professional

Parents fighting over their kids game and heckling is the epitome of good parenting
Parents are the absolute worst thing for their kids in sports sometimes
Great role models!!! You can see the effect this will have on the aggression of the kids!!
This actually pretty embarrassing...
All those parents trying to live through their kids.
Kenyon at the end though is a whole meme 🤣
After listenin to my song John wall yo kids will go d1💯💯💯
All class.
This is why I'll be standing in the corner watching my kids play. I can't deal with parents.
Good sportsmanship in most athletes, parents can learn from kids.
I made a comment once, he found out and said, I know you love me auntie but chill, I’m good 😂😂😂😂😂
You couldn't pay me enough to be a ref for AAU ball.

None of this toxic bullshit happened there
I’ve done AAU. Never again.
I almost quit playing AAU basketball when I was young because of the drama half of these parents brought to the games. Some of those parents and coaches were fucking out there.
Moral of the story : don't ever be a ref for forty bucks to be screamed at all game.
11:47- It’s actualy the Little kid who STARTED this insane Chain Reaction to Begin with! The Other teammates just Defended their own!
More of these parents should learn from Kenyon Martin hahaha. What a legend
It's silly and kinda sad seeing parent's being so small minded & showing their own children how immature they are
You know how goofy you gotta be to heckle a 6t grader but don’t even realizing you creating a bigger demon on the court
I can't even count the amount of times Carmelo's son came onto the NBA court asking for Melo's "and 1"

AAU parents are actually the craziest.
i’ve seen parents fight over 8u games and it’s just crazy to see grown adults heckle kids that young

I miss all my kids while I coached baseball but I don't miss some of the parents especially the ones drinking alcohol..they were too much

After listenin to my song John wall yo kids will go d1💯💯💯
Had a friend who drove Zamboni at a rink in a Twin Cities suburb and two Canadian teams traveled all the way to play each other because they weren't permitted to play each other in Canada because of the Parents bad behavior, which I think included some fighting. This was the late 1980s.
