Ant Man 3: Quantumania - Absolute Garbage
Ant man & The Wasp: Quantumania is a truly abysmal start to Phase 5. A stolen plot, appalling characters, derivative visuals, and a villain it is literally impossible to care about. The MCU is dying.

Velma has debuted on HBO Max and somehow managed to fall beneath our lowest expectations. Besides being unfunny, its humour is fundamentally cruel, spiteful & bitter. 13:35 Hi Movie Cynic, for starters thank you so much for noticing my comment. When *I* noticed I was genuinely surprised and I was in pure joy when that happened. Except, I have something to make up for. The comment I quoted for Tom Cruise wasn't actually "the best superhero movie" no that was technically for James Gunn. Tom Cruise actually said: "'The Flash' is everything you want from a movie." Anyway, I have great respect and appreciation for both you and LP channels. Thank you again, gentlemen.👋🏻

Superhero fatigue is real. Sure, there will be superhero films that achieve box-office success, but the high days of the genre are definitely behind it. We're entering the '1970's Westerns' phase of the superhero genre.

As someone who was basically four when Star Wars came out (before they gave it a fancy name) it is simply impossible to properly explain how overwhelming it was at the time. The big modern theaters came around in my late teens, and so you had lots and lots of packed showings, at a time when my TV had basically three decent channels. Years later watching the The Phantom Menace was a miserable experience, like watching your childhood be destroyed before your eyes. My son, however, has a much more nostalgic experience with the prequels. The circumstances that created the original phenomenon are impossible to replicate. But, I as a fan of bad cinema, we look at the past with blinders. Much of what was available to watch throughout my childhood was truly unwatchable today. It is merely that the crap is lost to time, and the cream rises to the top.

I thought this would be the first Marvel film I go to see since No Way Home. Mostly because I like Scott and I thought his relationship with his daughter might be explored more, plus they were both very charming in their previous appearances. But I still couldn't bring myself to want to see it. Thank you, I'm now very glad I did not. I did however see Puss in Boots, I was incredibly surprised by how genuinely incredible that film was!

  • Kevin W. Clark

Lol the first Ant-Man movie did the sacrifice scenario way better because Scott was put into a situation where he has to shrink down to save the day and leave his loved ones behind. There's people in the real world that can mourn his lost. I think the major one problem with the mcu in phase 4 is they have hired mostly inexperienced writers who don't know the first thing about story structure or writing in general. We definitely saw that to be the case with Rings of Power. It seems to be a Hollywood trend. Part of it might be related to budgeting.

24:00 The MCU's multiverse situation is significantly worse than you realize. There aren't just two distinct multiverses in the setting anymore... there's at least four by my count... I'm gonna go over them in roughly the order they're introduced. 1st is the Planar multiverse in the first Doctor Stange movie. It is comprised of other planes of existence where the nature of reality is fundamentally different from how the real world works (although conveniently never different enough to impead movie conventions like being able to talk and breath and see). Places like the Dark Dimension, the Mirror Dimension, and some unnamed locations from that one episode of She-Hulk are a part of it. It is explicitly referred to as The Multiverse in that first movie by The Ancient One and is treated like how things like DND handle the concept. 2nd is the Timeline multiverse introduced in Endgame and then expanded on / contradicted in Loki. This is a choice-based multiverse where the actions of individuals lead to the creation of alternative reality timelines that exist simultaneously in parallel. It is, in my view, the most complicated and broken multiverse in the MCU yet. This is because it is the one we have the most information on how it works and what it is. However, both Endgame and Loki establish different, serious rules (meaning not the jokes that Endgame spent way too much time on) both explicitly and implicitly that they then go on to break on their own, and that's not even addressing the fact that their individual rules seem to have no bearing on each other despite supposedly being the same multiverse. In Endgame, it was the simple (albeit still broken) idea that when you travel back in time, you create a new timeline rather than actually change your own past. This is based on both The Ancient One's explanation and observations from the plot, as her explanation unfortunately spends too much focus on the stones themselves to make sense without further extrapolation. This explanation helps explain why Past Thanos and Nebula's deaths didn't trigger any paradoxes (because they literally can't happen) but falls apart when Steve takes the long way back after supposedly putting the stones back. Loki, on the other hand, claims that timelines are created by Nexus Points where someone makes a different choice than they "should have." These points appear at random and have no stated reason to exist as far as I'm aware. Although time travel should theoretically create a nexus point, I'm not sure if the show ever directly addresses this interaction despite it being the inciting incident. Eventually, as timelines build up, something referred to as a "multiversal war" between the timelines becomes inevitable. In truth, I'm not even sure if the Timeline multiverse is only one multiverse. How the two media handles it is so starkly differently that I almost want to say that they are different entities entirely. For now, I'll keep them together, but the fact that it's even in question shows just how borked this whole thing is. 3rd up is the Multiverse of Madness one, or as I'll call it from here on: the Random multiverse. Yes, I'm counting this one as unique because it's presented differently from both of the previously introduced multiverses, it introduces new mechanics that have no bearing on the previous ones, and the older mechanics seem to have no association to these new universes. What is the Random multiverse? It's a strange collection of universes that aren't uniformly Planar or Choice-based like the previous two ones are. Instead, it is a mix of the two with the universes in which the plot is taking place, mostly being choice-based alternate realities, while some places we're briefly shown are so fundamentally different that it's more likely to assume that they aren't the result of a butterfly effect. Places like the ink dimension or the cube one appear to have fundamentally different physics to our world, much like the Planar realities of the first multiverse. The new mechanics are primarily focused around the difficulty of traveling this multiverse in the first place. Supposedly, only America Chavez is capable of opening holes to physically travel to other universes in this multiverse. However, others can transmit their consciousness across it through dreamwalking. Additionally, supposedly any sort of multiversal travel can cause something called an incursion, which is the merging of two or more universes, resulting in the destruction of one or all of them. These new rules and observations almost seem like the Random multiverse is a mix of the previous two multiverses and their details (for instance, incursions kinda sound like a form of multiversal war that would require erasing universes to prevent), but because that isn't established and doesn't make a whole lot of sense to assume that, I've chosen to treat it as a distinct entity. 4th and final for now is the Quantum Realm, as outlined in the video. It could be argued that this one is less a multiverse and more a massive expansion to the main universe (which is also really poorly explored) or that it's part of the 2nd one given how it enables time travel, but at that point we'd just be quibbling about minutiae. Also, I forgot about No Way Home. I'm going to assume it's a part of the Random multiverse given how I THINK that it's the one that most closely matches it, but I never watched the movie nor have I seen an in depth review on it yet. Although I could be wrong if it functions differently enough, and we might have a 5th multiverse here. So that's at least three definite, separate multiverses, one that's technically not a multiverse (but might as well be and facilities others), and two potential branch multiverses that might just be parts of one of the main three. This state of affairs is completely nonsensical and entirely the result of Marvel just throwing around the term "multiverse" without ever thinking about or planning what they were going to do with it. It's practically incomprehensible and requires a significant amount of intuiting to piece together the basic structure of the setting, all of which is inevitably rendered moot once the next movie comes in like a wrecking ball to cramm another stupid location, legendary character, or plot device into the setting with no effort to make it fit properly. If you've made it this far, feel free to correct me on anything I missed that might reduce (or more likely expand) the number of multiverses present in the MCU. All of this was just from memory. Most of these mentioned movies were garbage, and a lot of it just kinda blends together. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

A lot of your criticisms dont make sense. For example, you say why doesnt Quaritch hate Nitiri instead of Jake. Its pretty obvious, Jake is the one who betrayed Quaritch, Jake used to be a Marine and Quaritch offered to help him get his legs back. Nitiri is a Na'vi and Quaritch already knows that they are the enemy so why would he hold a deep grudge over the enemy he already knew was trying to kill him. Jake was the one who was human and betrayed him and assist in his demise so it makes sense why he would focus on Jake. As for the video of Quaritch referring to Sully and getting payback he was referring to when Sully betrayed him, not killed him. Because earlier in the movie Sully already had betrayed him and the RDA. Seriously, if you are gonna make a 3 and a half hour review calling this movie bad at least get the facts right.

this comment will recieve no traction since i don't think this belongs to this channel audience, but please do read if possible i mean, avatar theme if you can call it, was the preservation of life and nature. i mean, sure betraying humanity for some alien chick is bad, but what if for all purposes to protect sentient life from destruction. You can think of them as the untouched tribes of the world. they are content as they are whether due to fear of the unknown or something else, and killing them by destroying their ecosystem, let's say to mine uranium, will not be entertained by you(especially britain, france, Portugese and spanish) since i hope we have learned from history that nobody is superior.

I really like the "show, not tell" point. It reminds me of the idea sports commentators should shut up during iconic moments, such as Cal Ripken Jr. becoming baseball's new iron man.
