NYU News spoke with her about her passion for health as a birthright, and about how much she has enjoyed exploring New York City since moving here from her previous post at Michigan State University, where she was the C.S. Wow taylor is really something else. I actually have to take a second to process the beauty of her speech; everything she said is so realistic, and truly not generic- yet she still manages to instil hope, positivity and motivation. Her words are like a hug that provides comfort and solace, but also makes you face reality. She really has a way with words. Taylor isn’t just a bobblehead popstar celeb, she’s truly an artisan of wisdom and experience.

Well that was strange. The entire 2nd half of the course was little more than progressive political viewpoints being downloaded into the students.... and then in the last lecture he went back to actual sociology. Kudos?

This course has nothing to do with sociology... this lecture he's filling out the portions of the progressive political platform that can't be disguised under a heading that might sound like sociology. Skreeds about eating meat, recycling, and yet more anti-capitalist sentiment. And of course anti-Republican and industries that support them. Did you know that the energy industry is mostly responsible for global warming? If it wasnt' for corporate collusion intervening on behalf of autos and oil, we could all be using steam engines instead. I guess the coal that steam engines burn is cleaner than oil now. Take that, high school chemistry! I also had no idea that the average American eats 4lbs of meat a day. (I'm not exaggerating. These are just a couple of his silly claims.) Don't get me wrong. If you want to be progressive, have at it. It takes all kinds. But don't pay these yahoos tens of thousands to give your kids an "education" that can be had for free with a steady diet of cable news.

Besides his obvious talent as a musician, Pat’s a very bright guy. I enjoy listening to him speak. I saw Pat play with Gary Burton, Goodrick, Moses and Swallow at Symphony Hall in Boston. I certainly remember him playing the 12-string guitar. The headliner was Keith Jarrett and his band, which turned out to be a major disappointment. Jarrett spent more time screwing around with percussion instruments and soprano sax than playing piano. The band that preceded Jarrett was Oregon, and they were quite enjoyable. I don’t think Pat is correct in his recollection of being panned by a Downbeat reviewer when his first album was released. I used to subscribe to the magazine back then, and I’m pretty sure the reviewer gave it at least three out of five stars.

definition: "sociology is a discipline that expands our awareness and analysis of the human social relationships, cultures, and institutions that profoundly shape both our lives and human history." So imagine my surprise when I took this course and found several times more content in the realm of gay sex, it's history, power dynamics, etc. etc. than there was on the role of men within society, male culture, heirarchies, etc. In fact, the male half of the species, or at least the straight portion, is largely ignored in the course so far (I'm on #16 so far, which is mostly about homosexuality) except in so much as they oppress and otherwise mess with females and people that don't fit societal norms. I think it's much more accurate to call the course "Introduction to the Progressive Mindset", as you'll find all the favorite progressive subjects. And I don't say that as a bad thing. I highly recommend the course for the vast majority of the population that aren't progressive but find themselves forced to conform to their social norms under threat of sanction or unemployment. Mine fields are much easier to navigate with a map.
