A 2021 Ram 2500 Laramie with the Cummins with almost 38k miles. I have never used boxed DEF. I have always used truck stop DEF, usually from the Kwik Trip truck stop in Eyota, MN. I have never had any issues with that at all.

Have you added def keep it full and you need get it hot

I always keep my DEF topped off. As soon as I can fit a box I put one. Seems to prevent crystallization better than anything else.

I have a 2023 Platinum Regular IFORCE. I’m getting 11.6 mpg´s. Have driven a little over 200 miles and it has not gotten any better. (I don’t have a heavy foot)

drive down back roads until the def system falls off. should fix it.

I believe it's a simple software update that the dealership can do. Won't hurt the truck but I'd bring it in soon.

I've never had an issue with the quality of pump DEF. Just make sure to wipe off the nozzle before pumping so you don't knock crystals off in the tank. They will eventually dissolve, but some systems are sensitive to them. It's bad ju-ju for Freightliners in particular.

I had a 2019 Ranger XLT with the FX4 and tow packages, and I was always *very* impressed with its tow/haul capabilities. It definitely had a very firm ride when you weren't towing or hauling anything, but it is a truck after all -- it's not a Lincoln Town Car,. I traded it for my 2022 Bronco -- had the Bronco not come out, I'd still be driving it.

There is supposed to be a gasket between the DEF injector and where it mounts to the SCR catalyst, the remnants you found are in fact what’s left of the old gasket.

Ridiculous that the OEM's haven't figured this stuff out yet. This era of diesel trucks will be viewed like the v8's in the early smog years. Overly complex, maintenance heavy, garbage

DEF quality is definitely an issue. Only use Quality brands.

I don't understand why they are comparing two trucks with almost a 300hp differential in a towing test. Apples and Oranges. If they put the C7 Vette ZR1 motor in this truck (which is basically Supercharged 6.2L) then you would have a real comparison. Which has me thinking...please do GM!

it tends to crystalize when exposed to air, in winter teh truck had a warm up time for DEF to start injecting. if you are doing shorter trips NO def is injected, as it is frozen.

*VIDEO IDEA* get 3 DEF samples. expose to air in a cup, check the crystallization rates.

I ALWAYS buy from the pump with a receipt. that's way if you get a "bad fill" you are covered by their 3r party insurance, same with their diesel. . getting the boxed companies to cover takes 6-12 MONTHS! and they will fight you because then they would be liable for further claims.

ALL DEF is EXACTLY the same. it is a controlled formula nothing can be added or modified. everything you see is marketing to drive sales. no MPG improvement is possible, etc.

this is a KNOWN OEM issue with DEF heaters burning out from being pushed too hard by ECM. GM, RAM, FORD all have teh SAME exact issue.

Even for 379.00. Might be a part to keep a spaee too. Shouldn't need too but might be good insurance. Granted you can clean it each time too though.

Use Love’s straight outta the pump. No issues and it’s cheaper. 2022-11,000 miles

The reason you are having this issue is because you are using boxed DEF. You should use the station DEF as it is the freshest. The box stuff is probably expired and never as good as the pump. Also never let it go below 1/2 on the DEF tank.

I’ve used the Walmart house brand of DEF on two different trucks with no issues whatsoever. About $10/2.5 gallons

you are wasting to much time.. you have it off replace it replace it and replace and just replace... def fuel shouldn't be less then half a tank or you'll really screw up the system up big time..

Barely using the truck. Diesels need to be run hard under load to stay healthy. Boxed def isn’t as fresh as truck stop def.

I always thought they were cool trucks seen one around my town all the time but it disappeared about 7 years ago and always wondered what happened to it...I feel like it was before its time I feel like with the days of luxury trucks now I could see these selling really well in all the high class areas

It's a Cummins. Nuff said. I work on big rig Cummins engines, and 90% of the issues are related to DEF and aftertreatment.

These trucks are not made for short trips. If you do less than 1000miles a month buy a gas truck.

Your first problem is keeping your DEF tank near empty. Should always keep it full. Once the needle moves to 3/4, top it off.

Great video Alex. Isn't the truck still under warranty? After you fixed it, I would still take it in. Diesel seems like a big headache to me.

thats the first problem of many to come with that new truck.

I only buy truck stop def. They cycle through it more often. Never had an issue with my Ram clogging

Hi there I’m a fan of the show I’ve been watching since you guys had the 1 gen Raptor. I have a interesting test that you guys can do with the ranger. Ford sells a tuning kit for the ranger that offers 45 hp and 60 lb-ft I do know that 5 star tuning offers more power. I would like to see your ranger turned by ford and then go up against a stock new gen f150 with the 2.7 with a 3.73 rear because I believe the ranger has a 3.73 rear as well. Just let me know what you guys think.
