Hearing the Stars: New Insights into Stellar Interiors Space-based observations have provided a remarkable new tool for studying stars within our galaxy, the Milky Way. Simply by measuring how bright a star is over many years, we can now directly measure its mass and radius, as well as the properties of its deep interior, such as the rate of rotation. This has been done for tens of thousands of...

Constructing a Republican Executive - Jefferson Memorial Lecture As the delegates to the Constitutional Convention gathered in Philadelphia in 1789, there was no experience, anywhere in the world, of a successful republican executive over an extensive nation - one with sufficient authority and independence to make things work on a national scale, but without the risk of becoming a monarch. This...

"14 billion years on, what can we learn about original imperfection? The conventional wisdom is that if you want to learn more about the early universe, you build a bigger telescope, and that if you want to learn more about subatomic particles, you build a bigger accelerator. I will talk about a third and complementary way to get at both sorts of questions: table-top precision measurement. As a...

Tanner Lectures on Human Values - II - Regulating Rivalry

"For the People? Representative Government in America Political scientists, constitutional lawyers, and democratic theorists consider norms of democratic representation in literatures whose paths cross too seldom. They do not agree about the meaning of fair and effective representation. Democratic theory is perhaps the area to which one would look for insight, but for the most part it has been ...

Conforming to the conditions of ticket-punching careerism rather initiative, professional zeal, and practical effectiveness seems to be an endemic problem in the officer corps of the U.S. Army at least and possibly the other U.S. armed forces as well.
Civil rights, immigrant rights, the concept of equal protection under the law, the right to a public education, and the concept of political asylum are all original American or European values, not from China. If China traditionally embraced these concepts, why did it become communist? Why does China still lack freedom of speech to this day ? Why is China still an authoritarian country today?
If a god can be eternal and self-sustaining, so can a universe. No god required. And none is evidenced from actual science.

PPURE BULLSHIT STORY from Thomas Ricks. PURE BULLSHIT. It might have been a US Army LTCOL, but not a Marine. Jesus H Christ, VERY HARD to believe that an actual Marine LtCol didn't know who General OP Smith was. Much less that he was the CG of the 1st MarDiv at Chosen. My guess is that it was an Army officer and that story was embellished for this sort of introduction to his book. A pure lie.
I have been a fan of Thomas Ricks in the past.
Previous intro to BERKELEY lectures was much better
After translating and studying Confucianism, Confucius duly converted him as his disciples. Gile concludes: “Confucius was the prince of philosophers, the wisest and most consummate of sages, the loftiest moralist, the most subtle and penetrating intellect that the world had ever seen. He was a statesman, a bard, an historian and an antiquary rolled into one. His sagacity put the most illustrious of ancient and modern philosophers to shame. He was the greatest and noblest representative of the greatest, happiest, and most highly civilised people on the face of the earth.”

I agree, Colorado Springs has only Colorado College and some Junior Colleges and a CU that was only for commuters. When I went to the University of Minnesota it was a significant part of the city (Minneapolis). There was an effect on the city that was significant, but that never happened in Colorado Springs because they never effected the cities’ life.

Ricks himself is quintessentially mediocre. I reject each and every opinion Ricks voices in this lecture. This whole comparison of generals is not just emotionally unintelligent it is of no genuine military value. The fact he has attended the generals' course has clouded what little historical judgement he offers. Ricks is "Stuck at Year Zero" that is to say his historical judgement is seen through 1945-tinted spectacles. He is unreasonably demanding that all current and future generals act as if it is 1940! This is an insane request! The world has moved on since 1945, the American Military has moved on since 1945. Why haven't Ricks and his fellow historians moved on since 1945? Success in the Savage Wars of Peace looks so much different than it does for major world-spanning conflicts like World War Two!
Technology changes, and strategy and tactics change to some extent but leadership and the need for talent doesn't. The American military has moved on to what? Defeat in Vietnam, defeat in Afghanistan? A muddled mess in Iraq? A half victory in Korea?
When he said "she got into her car" I thought he was gonna say she died. LMAOO. Absolutely terrible writer and reader.

Awakened. I struggled to define racism for other to understand the damages. As a nuse, i see daily the Lack of health care and health care inequities.
The contradiction in the second half of the proof seems to be complete at the stage at which gL acts on equal elements f(x1) and f(x2) and produces unequal results, x1 and x2. This proves that gL is not well-defined. The fact that x1 and x2 are equal because gL is a function is therefore irrelevant.
This guy is either dumb or lying because the way government pays for printed money is by intentionally underreported CPI so that social security, medicare, and peoples wages lose ground to actual inflation. The con job started with a revision in 1982 and has been done 2 times since to achieve CPI 50-75% below real inflation. They exclude food/shelter/energy from CPI. But now the inflation is so large even morons see it. 20% is pretty obvious!
Robot attacks are up this year and bologna sandwich is the only effective solution. Do you want lettuce on that?

Chopin was Polish. His name was originally pronounced like Cho pin. Only when Chopin moved to France that he became Showpan.
